"Ah!" You throw yourself back against the far bars of the cage, eyes wide and mouth open in terror. A giant, scaly paw with 3 inch long claws manages to slip through the bars and swipe at you and you actually start to cry from fear; Cowering so tightly against the bars that it hurts, cold metal biting and burning itself into your skin.

Or is it from guilt? For letting the bird escape? Charles has been hunting that thing for years and you're at fault for it escaping this time! At the time, you thought it was right to let it run, but maybe this horrible feeling you have now is guilt!

A bloodcurdling roar comes from the beast and it slams its forehead into the bars. The bars shiver and the gates shift, and your eyes widen; Beginning to hyperventilate as you look around in a panic at the ever-weakening restraints.

"Charles! Charles I'm- I'm so sorry! Fuck fuck fuck!- Fuck, Charles I'm so sorry!" Again the creature bashes the flat of its head into the bars, again- and again- and again- and you feel like your heart might just rip out of your chest at the sight. If it keeps doing that- "Charles its gonna get in!" You screech, fingernails digging into the stonewall behind your bars. "Please, Charles!- CHARLES-"

From somewhere else in the room, a speaker crackles loudly and your bosses voice floats through. You know he's watching through a camera, enjoying his dinner at the screen and reaching lazily over to press the intercom- and all you want is to be there with him. You would even go straight to bed without dinner- just anywhere but here. Anywhere but here!-

A soft chuckle comes from Charles over the speaker, as you slide down to the ground; Fear turning you cold now. You just watch the monstrous beast struggle and fight to tear you apart and enjoy you, heart beating your chest so hard that hurts.

You're fast asleep when Charles opens up your cage again, having lured the creature back into its cell- he'll deal with it later. You're always his first priority.

Hopper looks slowly, uncaringly, back to the man he just killed outside the bar and brought you out to see - you remember how he had joked that he had something cool to show you outside, flirted with you even, wrapping hi arm around you and making you think maybe he was going to kiss you... but then immediately he stepped away from you when you came up to the body. Leaving you cold and alone, and shell-shocked when your eyes fell on the poor, crumpled heap, - , then back to you; Shrugging. "Sure you did."

The words surprise you, and you quickly shake your head; Eyes still glued to the... to what was once... a man. "No, I... "

"Yes, you did." His voice gets that much tenser, almost angry. Your eyes snap up to his, round like a doe's. He sighs as if they affect him which you know they don't, because if they really did then he wouldn't say these things, and gives his head a shake. So this session started with Elton and Cael sparring. Elton kicked Cael's ass. Jax joined them and then said that the should probably talk in the royal bedroom, so they all move to there and Jax alarms the door.

Cael said with Elton's permission she was going to be taking over the mission and that they needed to know who their friends and enemies were. She said that Elton and Jax were her allies and that she needed everyone to just keep their heads down and do their jobs for the next few days. Jax then told them about her talk with Lady Carestia and how she'd been flirting with Yuza and was probably going to go on a date with her. Cael asked her questions about what happened, but ended up saying she confident Jax could handle herself and that having Lady Yuza as an ally would be good. Elton said normally he'd want to talk about this, but he wasn't in the mood to gossip. Cael said she wanted to get rid of Jax's taser tattoo since Jax had proven that she was trustworthy and didn't do anything to deserve it.

Elton then went to check on Cynn with Knight Caleb while Jax and Cael then took a carriage to see Headmaster Bitzenbop at the artificers college.

The lawyer then told Cynn she would be released soon and she was escorted back to her cell where she had a strangely open and honest conversation with the hungover half elf necromancer in the other cell.

While waiting for Cynn to be released, Elton and Caleb had an awkward conversation where Elton asked Caleb where he knew him from and Caleb said that Elton was there the day Caleb was knighted. Elton felt terrible for not remembering and Caleb said it was fine because there was a lot of other people getting knighted that day. Cynn was then released into Elton's custody.

During all of this Jax and Cael arrived at the artificers' college via a giant magical elevator and headed for the registrar's office to enquire about Violet. The old knome at the desk said she hadn't gone to class since a year and a half ago and that he was surprised that Jax was there since they had gotten a notice of her death a little before Violet stopped attending classes. Cael demanded to have a copy of Violet's file, the clerk asked why, Jax and Cael said it was for a missing persons case, and the guy at the desk called the security officer so the could confirm it was okay. The security officer showed up, he was a half orc with boots of haste and gloves of element absorption. He asked Jax for id which Jax didn't have because people from Shiver-Deep don't get ids apparently, so he took them to another building with a zone of truth on the floor. Jax resisted the spell at first, but relented after telling Cael not to let them fuck with her. The security officer asked her what her name was, her relation to her sister, and where she was from. Once he'd confirmed it was her he gave them the copy of the folder. Jax checked the death certificate and it said she died 3 days after her arrest. The security officer then took them to Bitzenbop's workshop. He was working on an automaton and Cael introduced herself and Jax then began asking him questions about how automatons were powered and about some black iron automatons they'd heard about. Bitzenbop tried to hide that he recognized the automatons and he said he had no idea who could have made them, since brass and gold were much more efficient conductors ofagical energy. Jax could tell he was lying and was pissed, but managed to hold it together until they got back to the elevator where she punched the wall and said Bitzenbop was a lying bastard and he knew who made the black suits of armor. She said it was probably Black Iron Industries, the people who owned her town. Cael told her she did a good job holding it together and that they were going to go get tea or hot chocolate.

I'm thinking Benedict's arc in S3 will cover Part 1 of OFAG. So S3 will have the Masquerade ball, and multiple characters dealing with the aftermath (whatever Shonda can come up with). In Ben's case, he's looking for the LIS; he'll visit Sophie's family, maybe Benophie will walk past each other. In ep 8, we'll see Sophie's terrible home life before she runs away, setting up their story for S4. I personally don't want to watch Benedict failing to find her, but at least he'll be doing something.

I am sorry but they’re not unless they’re giving season 3 to another couple and no one else is ready.

This is personally how I think it will go… if Benophie is going to be season 3…

Episode 1: masquerade. Penelope refusing to dance with Colin because of what she heard. Eloise over hears and maybe they start “talking” not friends but friendly…ish

Episode 2 is Sophie being kicked out and Benedict’s mini quest to find her. Moaning to a pregnant Kate and then end with Benloise on the swing set talking about heartbreak and Ben giving Eloise some advise on forgiving people…

Episode 3 being a time jump forward bringing Francesca’s debut and meeting John. Benedict being miserable and lots of cute Kanthony with babies. Meaning Benedict’s miserable and he leaves for the country. We see Sophie toiling away at the Cavender. Penloise being friendly but not as they are because of hurts. Eloise wishing she would use LW for good and not just gossip…

Episode 4 the Cavenders and the rescue with my cottage… Francesca being courted by John in london and Penelope attempting to ignore and move on from Colin. Colin huffs and leaves for Wales because Eloise finds out what he said and goes after his balls… more kanthony with babies. End with Benni boys bare ass In the lake…

Episode 5 - an offer from a gentleman… title obviously! Sophie spying. Being caught. The kiss thé offer and as much as i don’t like it… it’s probably the only way to get her to London… blackmail… and brings her back to London… meet the family! Where it’s all in madness cause there is ball, a toddling baby which Sophie instantly scoops up and quietens and everyone’s like WHO is this Angel? Cause for the first time all day Edmund is quiet!

Episode 6: everyone trying to work out who Sophie is. Sophie being welcomed into the family and sneaking… Sophie struggling as she wants Benedict and loves him and she’s falling in love with his family and it’s so hard. Maybe some flashbacks to her life under Araminta and her father. Eloise trying to recuit Penelope to help find out who her maid is… (maybe pen knows like the book though maybe not) but lots of yearning and the entire family seeing it… Sophie leaves the house and nearly bumps into Lady P… cue heart attack and end of episode…

Episode 7: SOFA. Their fall out. Sophie being miserable and deciding she has to leave as Sophie lets slip her identity and he goes mad:. Conversations with either Violet or Kate.

Sophie goes to leave…

Benedict with brothers. Talking. Being brothers and ending with Ben deciding he wants marry Sophie no matter what and Anthony gives his blessing. Violet already having given it… episode ends with Sophie being carted off to Jail… Penelope running into the house to say she’s just seen it all…

Episode 8: Jail scene. The fall out from that. Eloise and Penelope making up and LW using her pen for good without being prompted and writes a story of how Ben and Sophie met in the country to attempt to legitimise her in the eyes on the ton. Which repairs her in the eye of the Bridgerton’s (to a small degree anyway)

Epilogue; Fran’s wedding to John, Penelope wearing NOT yellow and Colin looking at her in a different light as someone else is dancing with her. Eloise being a bit like “she’s finally being herself” or something to bring the story to them… and Sophie and Ben running around the gardens happily and she tells him she’s pregnant with Baby Charlie.

End season.

I know people have been having loads of issues with S2 but personally, I did feel that they did improve the depth of the world and the story itself. sure there were a bunch of writing inconsistencies, but the books themselves aren't perfect, (I cannot stand how Benedict is written in the books, and I hope they have to overhaul his story completely (but I have so many other issues with OFAG)) It feels so exhausting that the books are put on a pedestal for some fans, I hope they get there act together in the next seasons and wouldn't even care if they got rid of Sophie, yawn. anyway, just wanted to rant a bit, this fandom is a bit of a mess.

I think we got a lot of depth out of Anthony and Violet this season, and I do love that we got to see that backstory in a way that I don't think would have necessarily worked in the books. I never doubted that they could improve aspects of the book (case and point, I prefer season 1 to "The Duke and I"). I'm just annoyed that the focus of said depth and improvement were only Anthony and the Featheringtons, and the Sharmas didn't get the same treatment when their story is as interesting. We had this incredible opportunity to explore two different women-led households and how they navigated the ton in the face of loss, and how these young women (Kate and Penelope) are put in a position where they have to help their families and how they go about doing it. Again, I just wanted more actual plot that moved the story through the season and to the following seasons and less filler (did we really need almost the same Portia and Jack scene three times? What did we need Theo for? What was the purpose of Jack? Anyway).

Oh, the books aren't perfect. Not at all. I was hoping they would take out some parts of it when they wrote season 2. The study scene is incredibly uncomfortable to read, and the conversation Kate and Anthony have on their wedding night comes so out of nowhere I had to set the book down after it.

I read a post a few days ago (I can't find it for the life of me) that JQ has the tendency to make these perfect leading men, and because she's made them so idyllic, it feels completely OOC when they act the opposite way. Because that's the thing, isn't it, Bridgerton men are either perfect or straight up knobheads.

I feel like that's the truth for all of them. From Anthony to Benedict, to Phillip... They all suffer from JQs version of "historical realism", which usually translates to: let's treat the women in our lives badly until we yassify and become perfect himbos for them. The books are 20 years old, and it is what it is. They aren't perfect, I've never claimed they were, and I'm more than happy to discuss them!

About AOFAG, let me start by saying I don't want to get in trouble. I think Sophie's story is an interesting one to adapt for the show; I think it has potential, and the show could explore some very interesting things with that story. Luke Thompson is a phenomenal actor, and I have the utmost faith in him to have us all swooning.

Having said that, I don't trust the writers to do it right.

I do think the book needs to be reworked for the screen - just like TVWLM and every other book in the series (and let's be honest, season 1 would've been better off without some parts from TDAI) - and some themes need to be modernised and handled with more care than the book does.

Sophie's story is the one in the series that tries to explore themes like class, and honestly, right now, I don't trust the show not to give it a saccharine-y "everything is a scandal but not really" treatment. I was excited when they announced Theo because I thought they were going to give us a glimpse of the lower classes through him, and that's how we were going to get a taste of where Sophie's arc would start from. Instead, Theo's character went nowhere (you can take him out of the show and have Eloise do something else that alerts the queen, and the ending doesn't change).
