Christopher Marlowe's (completed by Geroge Chapman after Marlowe's death) epyllion (literally "little epic" but focused on love rather than "traditional" epic topics) "Hero and Leander" does not get enough love, so let me tell you about my favorite scene in this poem.
After being mistaken for Ganymeade by Neptune and dragged to the bottom of the sea (we're just gonna skim over the multiple levels of YIKES in that sentence), Leander is yeeted to dry land where he knocks on Hero's door. What Leander has somehow failed to notice is that he is stark-ass naked and covered in seaweed and sand; he looks like a sea monster.
Hero opens the door, takes one look at Leander, shrieks, and falls tail over teakettle over the other side of the bed before scrambling underneath it. The entire time Leander is yelling trying to assure her that it's actually him, and that hey, he's here anyway, why not have some fun?
The fact that Marlowe didn't actually finish this poem might be my favorite part, because without the traditional ending, this is actively hilarious and we can headcanon a happily ever after for this adorkable couple.

#FridayKissTag!!!
Shio turned to face her next enemy with a ragged scream, her blade a flicker of light in the darkness as the lumonium caught and splintered off what parts of its surface were not blackened with blood and gore.
It was not the thunk of flesh and the wet resistance of muscle that met her sword, but the solid, unmovable surface of another blade. Shio had not even the time to register the clang of metal as she drew her arm back and struck thrice more, the madness of battle, of survival, still thundering in the pulse of her temple.
Her breath nearly rushed from her lungs when at last her eyes registered who it was that met her blows– who parried them with the practiced ease of familiarity.
All at once the fight went from her arms. The sword clattered from her hand, her knees buckled and she would have hit the hard rock floor soundly were it not for his hands that relinquished their own steel to catch her.
“It’s you– it’s you…” Shio sobbed, hands curved into claws as she tore at Enoch’s shirt, at his arms, forcing herself up so she could look at his face. Warm, dark brown eyes met her own, wide and wild, the same exertion that panted through her own lungs heaving from his own.
“Are you hurt?”
His voice. His scent. His warmth. Things she had never thought she would miss now crashed against her so fiercely she cared nothing for her wounds. Nothing for her hurts. Only that he was here.
Shio shook her head, too overwhelmed to even try and form words. She slid her palm over his face, felt the coolness of his skin beneath her fingertips before seeking out the silky softness of his hair. Enoch was equally preoccupied, his own hands moving over her arms, her shoulders, eyes checking off each place she might be injured. She felt his sphere fall over her like a warm rain, cleansing the ache from her sore arms, the sting of cuts and at last finding the painful mass of bruises around her ribs.
“Oh Shio… three of your ribs are cracked,” Enoch said, his voice broke with a wince of sympathy, “And your shoulder…”
He had discovered the damage there no doubt from her resetting the joint.
“I will live,” Shio croaked and smiled crookedly up at him, hoping to make him laugh. Hoping to clear the storm clouds that thundered around him and darkened his eyes. Instead, he kissed her, brief but warm, on her lips.
He pulled back to speak against them, every word ticklish, “...Don’t ever do that again.”
“Fall into a chasm?”
“Leave me.”
In those two words was more than a simple request. Shio felt the weight of them, heavy and purposeful in the way he said them and the way he looked at her now with the face of a man whose heart had been hanging, halfway between whole and broken… waiting to know if she had lived or died.
“I will never leave you,” Shio whispered fiercely, watched as her words lit a flame behind Enoch’s eyes.
She kissed him. Bit him. Marked that promise into the soft yielding skin of his mouth. When she pulled back there was a demand there in her eyes. A question. Awakened from the daze her touch had left him in, Enoch at last seemed to understand what it was she wished to hear.
“...I believe you.”

TTRPG Publishing with David [S3E2]
This week, we chat with David about saving the whales, publishing your own game systems, and making a city feel corrupt, classy and discreet. David has built some very cool systems, and our conversation covers rules lawyering, game balance, and what it means for a table to tell a story together. For the first time in a long time, we don't spoil any media and we also don't ruin our changes at any sponsorships.
This episode is heavy on references to other games! First and foremost, you should go check out David's Itch page where you can find Blood and Velvet and other game systems. David cites the following systems as inspiration:
Noirlandia
Follow
Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands (which we discussed with Prim last season)
Epyllion
We also discuss a few worldbuilding systems:
Kingdom
Dialect
For the Queen
Microscope (which Jake and Reilly played way back in Season 1)
The Quiet Year
David also recommends Fallen London, Darkest Dungeon, Black Jack Justice, and Friends at the Table - especially the Partisan arc.
Finally, if you're interested in learning how to code in Python, here's a decent place to get started.
These week's intro comes from Seattle Dungeon Master Bryan Erickson! Thanks for the fun intro.
David composed and recorded the theme music for this week's monologue. As always, Reilly wrote the main theme for the podcast. If you like the music on the show, go check out more of Reilly's music.

*offers you some of your favorite tea * any Feligami thoughts today, my dear?
HI LUCKY I HAD TO RESCUE THIS FROM THE PIT OF PHANTOM ASKS
I am always swimming in Feligami thoughts and feelings and general insanity! Today I offer you this:
Felix writes about the two of them constantly, because of course he does. And since he can’t be normal about anything in his life, he explores a different literary genre for each side of their Love Square:
As we already know, Feligami (in the strictest sense of the term) is theatre with a hint of fairy tale aesthetic. It’s about putting on a show and taking off their masks; it’s about fighting forces beyond their control to write their own happy ending.
Argami is prose poetry, inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s Le Spleen de Paris: breaking free from conventions, finding beauty in what others would deem worthless — even monstrous.
On the other end, Ryargos is best represented through epyllions, or short epic poems. Felix pulls all the stops: alexandrins, rimes riches, glorious epithets he came up with himself. The point is to celebrate Ryuko’s exploits and to reaffirm his commitment to his newfound heroism.
Finally, Relix is an epistolary novel: all the letters Felix wrote as a child to an unknown recipient, begging to be read — to be saved.
Tumblr media
Rumour has it that he is also working on a Flairmidable x Bakeneko (Cat Kagami) musical. His girlfriend will neither confirm nor deny.
Thanks for the tea! 💜🍵❤️

May I request some recs for games where you play as a dragon? ::D Thank you for your time!!
Tumblr media
THEME: Dragon Games
@foggedover and @vanderlyon both of you asked this question so I am killing two birds with one stone this time around! These games were so much more cute and wholesome than I expected Dragon games to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hot Gay Bro Dragons, by Riverhouse Games.
Bro, he’s your whole world. He makes you feel fabulous. His body is smoking hot, and when you look into his eyes they sparkle like gold.
He’s a dragon. So are you. You’re in love.
This is HOT GAY BRO DRAGONS, a gay game about telling your boyfriend you love him.
This is a silly goofy game about dragons in love, that can work for 2 players but can also play with more! What I really love about this game is when you choose how big of a dragon you are, you also tell your dragon boyfriend about how you feel about him based on his size relevant to yours. The game also encourages you to use phrases like “oh my god bro” and “bro you’re so smoking” and “that’s bro-lliant my dude”. If you’re just looking for a fun goofy time with someone you love, this game can do that for you.
Dragonhearts, by FractalDragon.
You get to be a dragon
You get to kiss dragons
Need I say more?
This Tabletop RPG is about about the clash of over-sized personalities between shapeshifters who can assume human or dragon form, or anything in between. It's GMless—meaning everyone has equal narrative authority—and plays best over one or two 3-4 hour sessions, with 3-4 players.
As a Firebrands hack, Dragonhearts is rather poetic in its character creation and plays through a series of mini games. These mini games include fights, rituals, moments of intimacy, competitions and more - and most of them can be played in whatever order makes sense for your story. This game also comes with a solo game, which each player will play as they set up their characters but might be interesting to play if you want to explore this game by yourself. If you are interested in short, segmented forms of play that can be mixed and matched as your dragons wrestle with emotions and learn about who they are, I definitely recommend Dragonhearts.
Epyllion, by Marissa Kelly (at Magpie Games).
Dragonia faces a threat we dragons have all but forgotten. Inside each of us are seeds of Darkness waiting to take root in doubt, anger, and sorrow. You and your fellow dragons— although small now—must protect Dragonia from the growing Darkness…and learn what it means to be a true friend.  -- Tass the Gigantic, Councilmember
Epyllion is a tabletop role playing game about young drakes who investigate rumors, solve problems, and discover the truth of a growing evil in Dragonia. While you play, you and your friends tell awesome stories, explore what it means to be a drake of Dragonia, and discover the value of friendship through magical, whimsical, and heartfelt adventures.
This is an adorable game about young dragons, perfect for all ages. You are young dragons trying to save their home from evil. It gives me the same vibes as Land Before Time, although others have described it to have the same tone as Spyro, or My Little Pony. Epyllion has received many accolades in the gaming community, and its author, Marissa Kelly, is also one of the brains behind the gorgeously haunting game of Bluebeard’s Bride. If the kind of dragon you want to play is cute and trying very hard to be a hero, then this is the game for you.
Hearth Dragons, by M. Davis.
With powerful magic, someone has created you, a dragon. Not a true dragon, no, but one crafted with care and love and given a purpose: to protect your home. With a special ability you were crafted with and a dragon's flame within, many adventures await you and your fellow hearth dragons as you strive to be the best caretakers one can be. And you don't even need to leave the house!
Hearth Dragons is a Lasers & Feelings hack inspired by The Last Dragon Chronicles by author Chris d'Lacey and the Pennykettle Dragons who made the stories as magical as they were. With friends and a game master, you'll make your own clay, paper, or other kind of handcrafted dragon and work together to solve problems and tell stories using your own imagination or the random adventure generation table within.
This is a quick little game with easy-to-generate characters and goals. You’ll create a house together and then do your best to protect it from forces such as an ominous neighbour or a a dangerous creature, from doing things such as ruining brunch or capturing the family pet. This is a great little game, perfect for one-shots and pick-up games.
If you like this creator's work I also recommend their solo journaling game, called An Afternoon As A Dragon, a game about someone who's become a dragon because of a curse.
Baby Dragons, by Litza Bronwyn.
In this game, you are a fierce baby dragon, hatched amongst a variety of other dragon eggs and left to discover the wonders and dangers of the world with your draconic siblings. You must choose if you are better at mental or physical, and go out in search of food, loot, more minions, and/or a better lair.
A simple one-page game that is easy to pick up and play with little to no prep! This is also inspired by Lasers and Feelings, but rather than manufactured dragons, you’re just babies, and you’re more likely to cause trouble than prevent it. If you’re interested in Epyllion but you want something that requires less commitment, you might want to check out Baby Dragons.

[sighs] I cannot find it despite how meticulously you tag things, do you have a copy on hand for how to conjugate dre/drem/dris? The draconic pronouns you use? I know you wrote up a whole post about draconic gender and now I can't find it when I need it. >.>; Thanks! -shadowfae
Oops, I thought I had the full set in my bio already! Will fix that. The full set's dre/drem/dris/dris/dremself, ie:
Dre owns the ball. The ball belongs to drem. It's dris ball. The ball is dris. "That's mine," dre said, pointing to dremself.
(As a note of interest, the original version of this set (as written in the Epyllion TTRPG book) is dre/them/dris/theirs/themself, but I think that's stupid so I changed it to be consistent.)
All my posts on my personal experiences with draconity and gender shoooooould in theory be in my "gender" tag, and more general posts about otherkinity and gender should be under "otherkin and gender" or, failing that, the broader "otherkin and lgbt". But I don't know that I've actually, uh, put the full dre/drem set out there in a post before, in fairness to you lmao, and if I have it would be pretty far back and you might need to tack /chrono onto the end of that tag URL to find it.

Why are all the male love interests in these booktok "spicy" books so... Incredibly boring?
They all are some dark haired guy with golden tan skin and some vibrant eye color who is oh so witty and charming and so utterly 2 dimensional. They are broody, tall and wildly devoted to the LI immediately (even if they deny it) and their character development is usually just 'oh I can tell her I love her o so much now~'
I think that's why I made Enoch a 5'11" cringe malewife fail-son. And HE is the oh so pale, oh so lithe one and also the healbitch. While my heroine is fuckin stacked. Talking RIPPED. Stealth? Subterfuge? Don't know bout that. Fist to face.

everyone, you need to read Georgics IV. I'm sorry. The sheer Love and Adoration with which Vergil writes about his 'parvī Quiritēs ' will make your day better. It's so cute. It's autistic. The bee love virus is transmissible through the ages (I caught it :/ send your thoughts and prayers). He says you must 'cherish/keep warm' your bees. He advised smoothing clay over the hive to keep it warm. He says you must build your smol bee friends a bridge of sticks and branches so that they may rest their wings. He tells us about 'a whole nation's trials and battles' (I hope I'm remembering that correctly). There's a whole. epyllion. about the origin of beekeeping, in which, the death of a beehive is considered a grave and serious punishment.
