I actually like Sambahsa. It's like an attempt to cram as much of the world's literary inheritance into one language as possible, with its complex orthography and massive lexicon. You can read through one paragraph of text and see what looks like English, Latin, French, Persian, some unidentifiable Germanic tongue... and yet it still feels coherent and naturalistic instead of a mish-mash of random words.
I imagine Sambahsa would have been a lot more well-recieved had it been invented back in the 1800s. It really looks like something designed to be a common literary language like Renaissance Latin, rather than an easy-to-learn code for international communication.
