Thinking rambly Thoughts about Athena and her genderfuckery and her relationships with Odysseus and Penelope.
Anyway I think it’d be neat if Athena functioned as both Odysseus’ wife and Penelope’s husband in each others absence (and also as a father to Telemachus). Not even necessarily in a romantic way, just a weirdly intimate but unknowable ThingTM they have going on with Athena
TFW your in a triad and one member is a virgin goddess whose definitely playing with you and your family’s lives like Barbie dolls

Sometimes I think about Old Man Laertes learning that Odysseus DID get to see his mother one last time.

Odysseus Headcanon: Odysseus never does spar with Telemachus to teach him.
Odysseus spent 10 years at harsh warfare and another 10 in life and death situations. Whenever he is placed into battle he loses control (see all his experience from Ismarus till the uprising of the nobles in Ithaca. Even in Troy he and Ajax were wrestling and both went for the kill needing to be separated). He knows he can never take fights lightly and he knows he cannot control it. Maybe one day tries and pushes Telemachus too hard. Maybe even nicks him with his sword. Maybe he needs Penelope to remind him.
Either way Odysseus would avoid sparring with anyone ever again after he returns from his redemption trip and he never spars with his son

Really happy with how she turned out! I decided to give her some naiad features, inspired by this post and it was really fun! I hc that she can breathe underwater (even though she doesn't have gills. Do naiads have gills?), although I am not sure if she can do it freely or for a limited amount of time 🤔
The fabric piece covering her chest was loosely inspired by 18th century neckerchiefs, because I wasn't sure how the Mycenaean open chest fashion would fly with the censorship here or on other platforms ¯\_(• ▽ •;)_/¯

"How much longer must we suffer now? (Reconsider) How much longer must we push through doubt? (We can get home) How much longer must we go about (Eurylochus) Our lives like this when people die like this?"
(The quotes in the sketch and above are from the song "Mutiny" from EPIC: The Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans)
I heard Starscream had another friend in a different continuity, what if TFOne Starscream also had his own Genvo too, but he died during those 50 cycles when they were being hunted down. I like to headcanon TFOne Starscream used to be a scientist before but decided to join the High Guard when the war with the Quintessons got more serious. Imagine Starscream decided to join the High Guard first and his friend decided to follow him when he heard Star was enlisting, but only one of them makes it back alive.
I think about how hopeless and desperate the High Guard's situation was throughout the 50 cycles with no end in sight as energon stopped flowing probably going hungry, they were being hunted down by Quintessons/Sentinel, their strongest leaders/comrades in arms were killed in front of them, betrayed, and trying to survive on the surface's dangerous landscape. I think as time passed many gave up hope or resigned themselves that they would never see home again giving into despair after cycles of suffering. Starscream probably feels the same way and feels pretty hopeless about their situation too. But as the leader Starscream probably knows he does not get the luxury of expressing those doubts without sending everyone else spiraling so even if he feels hopelessness about their situation he has to pretend he is okay and put on a front that he knows what he is doing and that they will succeed in taking down Sentinel one day to get them to survive another day.
There's a line in one of my favorite book series (Animorphs) where one of the characters reflects that "A leader has to give people hope. Even when he doesn't have much himself" and I think Starscream knew this. But it is a very lonely way of living being leader in such a hopeless situation as others can at least potentially express doubts about things or commiserate with each other, but as leader you cannot do that without affecting those under your command. I think some part of him subconsciously adopts the mindset that to an extent, on an emotional level, to be a leader is to be alone. And every decision you make holds the burden of potentially getting your troops/friends killed, but someone has to make the hard decisions even if some decisions are ruthless as you weigh the lives of those you may consider friends to keep as many people alive.
I was inspired to sketch this when I was listening to the song lol, I linked it down below in case anyone wants to hear it :D

If you think about it, Home Alone (1990) technically has the same plot as the Odyssey, but from Telemachus’ point of view

Do you think in Little Wolf, was Athena surprised when Telemachus fought so hard even though he didn't know how, or do you think she was surprised when he got beat so badly because he reminds her of his father so much?

Epic the Musical fans, I'm gripping you by the shoulders to tell you that Penelope has a sister who she is very very close with in the Odyssey who was named Iphitimene.
Not only a sister, but in each myth she is in, she has a lot of brothers. At least around 4 or 5.
The Potential for Eldest daughter Pen, Middle child Pen, and/or baby sister Pen is ENDLESS!!!
She is also half-naiad at the very least (in most myths) with her mother being a river nymph named Periboea. She can even be 3/4th naiad if you go with the myth of her father, Icarius, being the son of Bateia, another naiad.

a rough sketch of an idea
Polites found odysseus in the sheep's field weapons and armor and body broken and bruised. It looked like he had been dropped from a great height. He felt his gut clench at the sight. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened. But it was the worst he had ever seen his friend.
Odysseus had been collecting more and more bruises over the past year, becoming more and more cagey about their source. About his training. "Proof of athena's favoritism" he called them with a grin "it'll all be worth it when I'm the best fighter around"
But polites couldn't help but worry. Pride and honors and achievements didn't matter if you didn't survive the training to get there. Polites desperately wished there was something more he could to do to help but even if he could convince odysseus to cease this insanity, how would even get out of it without offending the goddess?
"I take it training didn't go well, my friend?" Polites asked with a smile forcing his voice to keep its teasing edge. He extended a hand to help odysseus up off the ground.
"Shut up polites" odysseus grumbled as he threw a hand up to clumsily grasp at polites hand.
Despite the muscle odysseus was rapidly gaining polites could still haul him up easily. He'd thank the gods for his height but lately praying had left a sour taste in his mouth. As he dragged odysseus towards a well paid and secured doctor he eyed the broken spear, sword, and sheild. A glimmer of an idea started to take shape. It was likely odysseus would continue to break mortal equipment as he did battle with gods and his family had been pressuring him to choose a calling already....
"Eurylochus is coming from same tomorrow" polites chatted ideally, hoping to distract his closest friend from his pain. Odysseus groaned and banged his head against polites shoulder.
"Come now!" Polites chided through his laughter "you love the man!"
"Not when he's trying to bed my sister I dont" odysseus slurred somehow managing to drip annoyance through the concussion and other pains.
