Read the Loki book (Where Mischief Lies). That cinched Odin as "bad dad" for me and it's a quality read for Loki fans.
What are your real thoughts on Odin? Like, you think the MCU made him a genuinely terrible dad, or do you think Ragnarok redeemed him enough? I just ask because i feel like he gets vilified so much in fanfic but didn't he call Loki his son too and say he loved him before he died?
When I think of Odin, I think of the Narcissist's Prayer:
That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did,
you deserved it.
Suffice to say, I think he's a bonafide arsehole. To be fair, he's a dick to Thor too. The bad dad trope isn't unique to Odin though, @lokischambermaid and I were laughing the other eve about how Marcus Aurelias in Gladiator has suspiciously Odin-esque qualities.
Not captioned: "Son, you're a failure and I hate you"
So basically, yes I think he was a bad father, and a pretty shitty person. But then, he had nine realms to run. Somethings gotta give. Also I don't personally think Ragnarok redeemed him at all? 🤣🤣 that fade to death on a bombshell like Hela is the coldest shit I've ever seen.

Something rubbed against his leg beneath the table. Jon saw red eyes staring up at him. “Hungry again?” he asked. There was still half a honeyed chicken in the center of the table. Jon reached out to tear off a leg, then had a better idea. He knifed the bird whole and let the carcass slide to the floor between his legs. Ghost ripped into it in savage silence. His brothers and sisters had not been permitted to bring their wolves to the banquet, but there were more curs than Jon could count at this end of the hall, and no one had said a word about his pup. He told himself he was fortunate in that too. His eyes stung. Jon rubbed at them savagely, cursing the smoke. He swallowed another gulp of wine and watched his direwolf devour the chicken. Dogs moved between the tables, trailing after the serving girls. One of them, a black mongrel bitch with long yellow eyes, caught a scent of the chicken. She stopped and edged under the bench to get a share. Jon watched the confrontation. The bitch growled low in her throat and moved closer. Ghost looked up, silent, and fixed the dog with those hot red eyes. The bitch snapped an angry challenge. She was three times the size of the direwolf pup. Ghost did not move. He stood over his prize and opened his mouth, baring his fangs. The bitch tensed, barked again, then thought better of this fight. She turned and slunk away, with one last defiant snap to save her pride. Ghost went back to his meal. Jon grinned and reached under the table to ruffle the shaggy white fur. The direwolf looked up at him, nipped gently at his hand, then went back to eating.
Jon I, AGOT
It's interesting that GRRM would dedicate several paragraphs to a seemingly unimportant exchange between a boy, his wolf, and an unfriendly third party. But there's just something about this passage that has continued to nag at me for years since I first read it because, considering how heavy handed GRRM was with the foreshadowing in AGOT, this feels important.
Jon is sitting at table full of squires - aka would be knights. We don't really know who they are or what families they belong to, but it's safe to assume that they come from a certain level of privilege; this is considering the fact that it cannot be financially easy to be a squire. And these boys already have a slew of tales detailing all their previous knightly exploits regarding "battle and bedding and the hunt" which suggests that they have some capital. So you have boys who will soon be men. And they will, presumably, become men of some power.
These lads eat their fill of the chicken until only half remains, which Jon then gives to Ghost. The direwolf's name is not so important here but what he represents is. Throughout the series, we're told that Ghost is reminiscent of the weirwood trees (because of his red eyes and white fur). He's stated to be of and from the Old Gods and since he's a personification of the weirwoods, he might as well be one of them. It's almost as if Jon is presenting whatever is left on the table to the Old Gods (Ghost). He lets them devour his offerings while he silently watches. And the motif of watching is so interesting here because it's kind of like Jon takes on a stewardship role - to watch over land/people/etc. He oversees Ghost eating the chicken, so he's overseeing whatever has been given to the Old Gods. This is not new imagery to his arc. As a brother of the Night's Watch and eventually its leader, we have several instances where he leads people to adopting the Old Gods in some fashion. In ADWD, several recruits swear their vows to the Old Gods while he watches on as their Lord Commander. The Old Gods are also primarily of the North and we're told that Jon has more of the north in him than his brothers; interesting that this also includes Bran. So perhaps whatever is being offered to the Old Gods relates to the North.
We must also note that Jon initially thinks to give only a small portion, a leg, before pivoting and providing the entire thing. It feels to me a bit like the process of carving up a kingdom or something similar. The lords (represented by the squires) take what they want and leave aside what they don't; or perhaps they have eaten to their fill and can take no more. Then when his time comes, Jon first considers a small piece of land/group of people before eventually absorbing all of whatever is left behind. The concept of carving up a kingdom rings harder considering that we have several callbacks to the ideals of kingship in this chapter. Robert, Jaime, Tyrion, and even Mance though we don't know it yet, all play into this. And then there's the aspect of Jon letting the chicken slip between his legs which evokes birth/fatherhood, a very curious choice when GRRM could've just had Jon place the chicken on the floor. So land/people are carved up and Jon then uses whatever is left to birth his own type of kingdom. And this kingdom is one for the Old Gods.
This also touches on something that has been quite prevalent throughout Jon's arc. It's the concept of accepting the "others" or "those left over" who live apart from the accepted social norms. Arya (a tomboy), Sam (a gender non-confirming boy), the Night's Watch (criminals, extra sons, and men who have no future left or place to go), and even the wildlings are all examples of this. And Jon takes on a leadership/paternal role to every single one of them. He looks after them as a leader would/should. Sometimes, in the case of Arya and the wildlings, he's equated to a king. He's a steward/shepherd/king. There's messianic undertones to this:
Come unto me, all you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30).
If you're familiar with Judeo-Christian tradition, you'll know that Jesus is often personified as one who spent the majority his time among the outcasts. The idea is that he came to save them too and that anew kingdom (or new earth depending on your translation) would spring up after the end of the world where he would forever rule as king; which presents the idea of a final king after the earthly ones are done away with. Now GRRM isn't so heavy handed with Christian allusions as other authors out there, but he does have a Catholic background and Jon is so overtly a Jesus figure. And in Revelation, Jesus is king and god at the very end....
One last thing: the mention of the mongrel who challenges Jon has always been rather interesting but confusing to me. A mongrel doesn't really relate to one specific type of dog. But it's interesting that Jon notes several roaming about where he is. They follow the serving girls who carry the food to be offered. Mongrels are used to describe antagonist/villainous groups in ASOIAF. Sometimes, they're used to describe slavers in Essos. But what's interesting is that most of the time, they're used to describe Euron's Ironborn especially in Victorian's POV. So I don't think the mongrel who challenges Ghost is a supernatural threat of death (i.e., the Others) but rather a human one. They represent those who are called to the scene once the lords have finished playing their games. It almost feels like a feast for (carrion) crows....
But it doesn't really matter because this mongrel isn't much of a challenge for Ghost. Though the mongrel is much larger, the direwolf is able to fend her off very effortlessly. Given that "mongrel" is used to describe Ironborn raiders, could this exchange between Ghost and the mongrel point to reavers or sea raiders who rise and fail challenge Jon kingdom? There is a historical King Jon Stark who did this....
When sea raiders landed in the east, Jon drove them out and built a castle, the Wolf's Den, at the mouth of the White Knife, so as to be able to defend the mouth of the river.[1][2] His son, Rickard, followed him on the throne and annexed the Neck to the north.
ref.
So this might shed some light not only on Jon's already published arc, but also on what we can expect in the future. We have some foreshadowing through Jon's ADWD dream that he will not only rise with the dawn (thereby live through the Long Night), but will be in a position to lead people (wildings in that chapter) to a new peace after a hard fought war. Also remember that the wildlings, rather enthusiastically, swear oaths to him as if swearing oaths to their king. In this instance, the supernatural (a dream of the war for the dawn) is followed by the natural/human. So perhaps this particular passage (and Jon's dream) can be used to predict that Jon comes out on top, and quite effortlessly too, as a leader. And he becomes a leader who rules by association with the Old Gods; or rules a kingdom for them.
To end, I think it's of note that this passage immediately precedes Jon's conversation with Benjen where he voices his desire to go out on his own - the hero's call to action. This is the adventure that's going to kickstart his growth as a man, warrior and most importantly, a leader. So it looks like before we even began, GRRM telegraphed how it would all end in just three short paragraphs.
#jon snow#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#ghost the direwolf#some random extra thoughts:#the aspect of fatherhood is closely tied to kingship as kings are often regarded to be the fathers of their nations#so we might see a parallel where jon-like dany-doesn't have children of his own physical body#but rather rules a kingdom as its symbolic father#think of how odin-a mythical parallel for jon-is called the all father because he is father to all men/lands#also it's interesting to me how kingship is a theme but it's almost like the actual theme is that of kings coming of going#but jon remaining and prevailing above all#we have robert who is a disappointing/bad king and his rule doesn't last very long and neither will his dynasty#jaime looks like a king and even if grrm didn't go through with his original ideas he was never meant to rule for long#in the new story jaime is symbolic of rhaegar a would be king whose time comes and goes leaving jon to pick up the pieces#then tyrion who stands “as tall as a king” but not quite! he still is not as tall as jon and tyrion also says in a later chapter#that soon he'll be even shorter than ghost + tyrion wasn't hand for long#mance who is hidden also has his time as king but it's very short lived and jon later absorbs his kingdom to make his own#so we have the wolf devouring the “left behinds” in a way but the interesting thing is this happens in reverse doesn't it#might Jon's new kingdom not only be made of remnants of the nw and wildlings but also have those left behind from the rest of the 7k?#it's possible since jojen tells us that once night comes all cloaks become black 🙂#so yeah this is all just more jon endgame king of winter/a new north propaganda lmaoooo

Thor: I think I just… realized something. I had a bad childhood. Loki: Yes, I know Thor: What?! What do you mean you know?! Loki: Thor, I was literally there
#it takes Thor crying over his hammer for the 13th time in a day to realize this#Thor not really feeling anything @ Odin's death and having to work through how he feels about that#bc he recognized he was growing detached to Odin and didn't want anything to do with him#but that was still his father and he thinks he should have to process that he's gone now but instead of feeling bad he feels better#etc.#VS Loki who worked all this out about Odin and Frigga being bad parents like at least a decade ago but IS still mourning them#etc. etc.

I don’t know how I’ve been meta-ing about the Odinson family for years and never picked up on this, but wow.
You know this fits with my very specific headcanon about their childhoods though.
I think from the time they were born, Odin was super paranoid about Thor- his offspring, his actual biological heir- turning out like Hela, and sort of just saw Loki as this extra kid he picked up at the seven eleven on the way home one day so he wasn’t too worried about him. And so he hyper focused on Thor when they were children- trying so hard to groom him into this honourable asgardian patriot instead of a murderous conquerer- and pretty much just ignored Loki altogether.
But then, when the two of them entered their teens, Thor was arrogant and enjoyed fighting too much, but was otherwise exactly what Odin wanted him to be. But at the same time, Odin suddenly realised how powerful Loki was growing up to be and how underhanded he was and how much rage he was hiding and mentally went “Oh fucking shit.. I worried about the wrong one.” And because Loki was already so old, he figured it was too late to try to shape him into something better, so instead he crucified Loki for every mistake he made, was constantly suspicious of him at every turn, made it clear that he didn’t trust him and thought he was going to turn out to be a villain… and for years Loki had to exist knowing his father saw him as an enemy. And he tried to prove him wrong, but Odin is a stubborn jackass so it never worked. And so the rest of the story goes..
I just love the concept of Odin’s own paranoia being the thing that lead to everyone’s downfall.
so is nobody gonna talk about how Mjolnir used to be Hela’s?!! i can’t believe i didn’t even notice this during the mural scene until my second viewing. like, she didn’t catch the hammer because she is more powerful than Thor (being Odin’s firstborn and all), she caught it because it was her hammer.
i need to go back and watch the first Thor film bc i think Odin said something along the lines of “the hammer is a tool to build and not just a weapon to destroy”, which is why he FLIPPED OUT when Thor went on that little destruction bender against the Frost Giants and HOLY MOLY Thor and Odin’s headbutting matches in the first film mean so much more now than just father and son disagreements about leading Asgard!!!
and then there’s Heimdall’s line during Thor’s vision in Age Of Ultron “You’re a destroyer, Odinson. See where your power leads.“ Destroyer = a family trait.
Meanwhile, we’re all over here worried about Loki doing evil things, but it was never about Loki.
Odin wasn’t concerned about Thor being too immature to lead, he was terrified Thor was headed down the same path of destruction and conquest as his first child, so he banished Thor to Midgard and placed a child-security-lock on the hammer to prevent a potential Hela 2.0 and i need to lay down now 0__0
Odin is still a shit parent for not coming clean about all of this. being straightforward and honest coulda saved a lot of hassle…fuckin odin >:C
#this was long and slightly incoherent but I have very specific thoughts on how their pre canon lives played out#and I think it makes perfect sense that when they were kids#Odin was so worried about Thor turning out bad that he father-bombed him and left loki in the cold#no pun intended 💀#but then once they started to grow up odin slowly realised that like#wait a minute#oh hell#I focused on the wrong one !!#the seven eleven baby’s over there plotting to overthrow me#which is something that happened in the Where Mischief Lies book lol#and then he overcorrects HARD#and ends up being hateful asf to Loki for no reason#other than his own fear of what’s to come#and it ends up being a self fulfilling prophecy#because maybe if Odin had left Thor to his own devices instead of indoctrinating him with all the asgardian supremacy propaganda#he wouldn’t have wanted to start a war with another realm#and maybe if he’d actually shown loki love as a child and not persecuted him constantly as an adult#he wouldn’t have grown up to be full of rage and bitterness#I just…. have a lot of feelings about it#but yeah it was hela’s hammer#hela#Thor#loki#Thor ragnarok#Odin#odin’s a+ parenting

Hi! This was a free write turned introduction for one of the most overpowered OCs I have ever made.
He's a part of the Marvel universe obvs, but his story is much darker than the normal films.
T͟r͟i͟g͟g͟e͟r͟ W͟a͟r͟n͟i͟n͟g͟s͟: (TW:) Includes non-temporary death, mentions of guns, violence, domestic abuse, evil aliens, a potential gary sue character if he wasn't so tortured mentally and physically, past mentions of domestic abuse, mentions of blood, mentions of the war (first and second, no detail)
I hope you enjoy it, if you like it i might put out at least the first real chapter I have for this AU.
Rumours of the Demigod have been around for thousands and thousands of years.
The fated magiks wielder of the Earthly plane who became Immortal through his lifetime of practicing magiks. A man who lived only to be as neutral as possible until it was his time.
There were countless prophecies of the Demigod on all worlds, though nothing gave away his legal name or exactly how old he really was.
The man had protected the human race since he crossed dimensions thousands and thousands of years ago. When he'd come to this dimension, this universe, this version of Earth, the Demigod had been a normal man. A man who had gone by the name Diego Damonte.
The man behind the myth had come across the spiritual magikal being by complete accident, he'd been trying to help a completely different magikal being to stay safe, but he hadn't known she was being hunted. He was a hunter himself, but he only ever hunted for the food that he needed to keep himself alive. That was the one good thing that his no-good of a father had taught him.
He hadn't even known that magikal beings existed until an injured, pony-sized fluffy, four-legged creature with a beak and three pairs of feathered wings and a long, prehensile fluffy tail almost twice the size of its body had appeared at the entrance to the cave he'd lived in at the time. He'd learnt later, after he'd died protecting the creature from the hunters, and then been brought back to life by the glowing blue nymph which had been about the size of his middle finger (who had literally slapped him across the face to bring him back to life and healed all his wounds with said slap), that the creature who had been kidnapped by the hunters after he'd died from multiple gunshot wounds had been called a Shapräk.
He'd later saved the Shapräk from the hunters with the help of the little light-blue nymph who had bound her incredible magikal potential and power to him. The Shapräk, in return had let him take the vials of golden blood that the hunters had drained from her, the golden blood was known for its insane healing properties when applied to a human wound, so three vials of her blood was more than enough to save his human life if he ever came to harm again.
Throughout the early decades of the nymph binding itself to him, the nymph taught him how to wield her power effectively and efficiently for whatever he needed, and she enjoyed her life being tied to his earthly body and soul, saving people and ending some of the most brutal wars, getting a job to pay the rent and the first time meeting their familiar, who Diego had named the boisterous, talkative, sarcastic, quite frankly annoying little German Shepherd pup Mars after he had talked in front of a Trogan leader and started the Trogan War with his sarcastic insults.
Mars, however, after only 12 years of life, was cursed to die, but Diego countered the curse and now, every time that he dies his soul enters a new German Shepherd body to live again, and the Demigod has to find the pup and return the knowledge of his previous lives to him, and allow him to speak human English like before, only for the dog to die again when his new body reaches age 12.
The Demigod only actually gained immortality when he met the first Sorcerer Supreme, back in Ancient Mesopotamia where he'd been blessing the Sumerians and saving the world for the sixty-fifth time. He'd had to absorb a Power Infinity Stone to stop the alien named Alfernda from destroying all of humanity with it, saving the Sorcerer Supreme of the time from certain death and becoming unable to age as a consequence. Another consequence was all his and the nymph's powers tripling in power, which made him the most powerful being on the earth for about three-thousand-years until another alien with a power stone fell to Earth and the Demigod fought long and hard, and eventually killed the alien who had brain washed 90 percent of the general population of Earth using the Mind Stone, which Diego kept for safe keeping.
Only a thousand years later, however, a very young Loki had tried to get a hold of it, and forced the Demigod's hand, and the Demigod had to absorb the stone to keep Loki's grubby little hands off it. Diego ended up with telepathy and an ability to telepathically communicate with any and all lifeforms, then a lifeform from across the universe about two hundred years later had begun to communicate with the Demigod through his mind, and visions of the future.
Loki and the Demigod stayed in touch throughout the years, and between the Demigod and his mother Frigga, Loki was taught how to harness the magiks he had running through his veins. With the Demigod as a father figure and confidant, Loki grew to be a playful trickster, master of lies like the Demigod was, sure, but he was, mostly respectful to others, even though his father was never a force for good in his life, and only ended up neglecting Loki for Thor, but luckily enough for Loki, Heimdall was good enough to let Loki go to the Demigod when he needed time away or comfort from the harsh way his father treated him.
Through visions, the Demigod was told of the way Odin treated Loki, and on one occasion, the Demigod teleported himself into Asgard and appeared directly in between Odin and the cowering Loki, and threw the Allfather back against the opposite wall, eyes glowing a fierce light blue, and he left the Allfather pinned against the wall, kneeling down to soothe Loki and teleport him to the Asgard healers, only then did he let Odin fall back onto his feet. He stood guard at Loki's bedside until he was healed again, and when Odin ordered his men to attack the Demigod, the man simply raised an impenetrable energy barrier at the door to the room which only let the healers and Frigga in and out.
Frigga has heard of the Demigod from loads of stories of Loki's and so she talked Odin down, and asked politely about where Mars had been at the time. The Demigod told her that Mars was doing his dying thing again, and he'd been about to go find the pup when he sensed Loki's distress through the realm barriers, and came to look after his apprentice.
When Loki awoke, he hugged the Demigod, and finally, the Demigod's eyes stopped glowing the fierce blue, and he dissipated the energy barrier, hugging the small teen back. He was pardoned by Frigga on account that he was helping her son. He returned home after making sure Odin would know what would happen should he need to protect Loki again from him, and if he heard of anything so much as touching his apprentice he would be back, and next time it wouldn't just be to pin him against a wall.
It appeared that his threat had been more than enough to stop Odin, and Heimdall still allowed Loki to visit him, because the next time, Loki brought Thor with him, since his older brother had been at battle practice when the Demigod had teleported to Asgard.
The Demigod ended up sparring with Thor as well as continuing to teach Loki magik. He practically adopted those two boys, but when they got too busy, they only had so much time for their Earthly father figure.
Everything was peaceful until the First World War, in which the Demigod did nothing but tried to protect the lives of innocents on both sides. Thankfully, the countries sorted it all out between themselves, and the Demigod's wooden log cabin in the middle of nowhere in Canada, had been kept safe thanks to Canada being, overall, very neutral in the war.
Just after the war, however, the being on the other side of the Universe his him with a series of very intense visions which depicted years into the future, a man from now fighting aliens alongside a group of misfits nicknamed the Avengers. One of which was Thor. The blonde from now was to be born in several weeks' time, he was to ensure that future came to be, and to avoid the deaths and pain of the other people involved directly, or indirectly with said group of Misfits.
And so, he did.

➸ Fear Deity! S/O; Record of Ragnarok
Character: Hermes, Aphrodite, Odin, and Buddha A/N: This was fun to write. By the way, I might allow requests to be open tomorrow. No promises though! Disclaimer(s): Nothing wrong, just fluffy shit
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
╚═════ Hermes ═══════════════════════════════╝
📨 As the Greek Deity of Fear, you were hailed for many centuries for your ability to torture someone with visions and dreams of their worst nightmares happening. Because of how bad some of them got, many began calling you Deitas Interni Nocendi, or Deity of the Internal Harm
📨 Hermes gained interest in you after the whole Adamas incident. He had asked if you sided with his uncle, to which you smiled and asked if he thought you feared such a pathetic man so much. He just smiled back and chuckled before evolving into a deeper conversation with you
📨 Years later, you guys stood by one another's side as you were married and began to make your own branch of the Greek Pantheon grow larger and larger. This was especially true when your children of fear from your previous bond with a human warrior, the Terrors, began to see Hermes like a father
📨 During Ragnarok, you stood alongside your husband and now adult-children. While he admired the fights with his father, you merely sat with your head on your hand in boredom. It wasn't until Poseidon lost and Jack the Ripper came on stage that you could feel the fear that flowed through everyone's frames, feeding you amazingly
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
╚═════ Aphrodite ═════════════════════════════╝
💐 Aphrodite has always been an alluring woman, and she knows that. She looks at herself so much that she can perfectly draw her body without any issue. But, with breasts that big, how hard would it be to remember your figure?
💐 When you arrived at a meeting with the other Gods, she was shocked to see just how dark you were. Even the God of the Dead, Hades, dressed in more color than you did! You walked in with your children following you, all in cute little color-coded cloaks, while you had a large thorn-made crown on top of your head with some thorns poking out of your skin amazingly
💐 She was entranced with how you held yourself. Many feared you, and the small few who didn't ended up succumbing to your ability to instill fear in all you wish too. Aphrodite was surprised that you seemed to have little animosity with her, and when she asked, she was happy to hear you actually enjoyed her more 'peppy-look'
💐 It was after you guys married and began ruling your realm together that everyone began to notice just how much more joyful you were to be around. You started dressing with more color and plants on you, she even got your little Terrors to dress more colorfully and child-like, despite how they aged to be more mature. It honestly made even the toughest Gods smile on the inside
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
╚═════ Odin ═════════════════════════════════╝
🪶 Odin respected you from afar. He knew of your abilities and always decided to stray away from asking you for any insights on the issues inside of your Pantheon
🪶 But, when a couple incidents with Loki grew into including your youngest Terror, Kenaz, he had no choice but to have you come to a meeting. Everyone was internally weary that you would pull something and end up forcing their Pantheon to go into war against you and your seven little fear-monster children. Thankfully, that did not happen and you ended up surprising them by being quite nice to be around
🪶 Ever since that day, you spoke more and more to the Head God of the Norse Pantheon. As he spoke to you more and more, Odin had started to mentally record every tiny event you guys had where you made his heart start beating faster. This led to you guys becoming close allies, then courting, before settling on marrying one another years later
🪶 When your only biological son, Thor, was born, everyone feared you more. Not only could you instill fear and make someone scared so much that they had a heart attack and just drop dead like nothing, you were also married to the Odin, and had the Thor as your son. You were quite the surprise to all
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
╚═════ Buddha ═══════════════════════════════╝
🍭 Buddha had always heard of a Deity that lived in Heaven that could control the fear that someone, even an immortal, had inside of them. He never encountered you for quite some time, but when he did, he wasn't that surprised with how you behaved
🍭 He guessed you'd be a quiet and threatening type, which you were. But, you only shocked him when you seemed to be more sunshine and rainbows with your Terror-children. You would kneel to their height, pat them on their shadow-like head, and kiss them goodbye as they went to speak to another mortal on the path to be a better person
🍭 When you guys actually started bonding, everyone who knew you just wanted to know why you were around the 'Human-God knockoff' all the time. You would just smiled and laugh before looking at them with a dead expression and telling them he made you laugh more than anyone else had ever
🍭 Buddha does love being around you, especially after you guys got together. He also loves being around your children. Your oldest Terror, Shui, was more of a shy-type, but when Buddha came around? That just fell faster than a loose rock on the mountain that Sun Wukong was stuck underneath years ago! He was the perfect choice for you and the perfect choice for your children. And you wouldn't have it any other way

Pairing: Loki x female reader (Y/N) - established relationship
Summary: Loki and you have been together for almost six months and he has finally opened up to you about being a frost giant. He worries you won't love him the same after he shows you his Jotun form for the first time but you are determined to make him realize you love him no matter what.
A/N: This was originally going to be a section in Part 4 of Talk to Me but I couldn't quite get it to fit so I pulled it out and adjusted it to get this... hope everyone likes it 💚
You sit next to Loki on the couch, watching him silently as he shifts from his Jotun form back into his Asgardian form. He keeps his eyes lowered, avoiding your gaze until his illusion is fully in place. He slowly looks up at you and you can see the worry in his eyes.
You touch the pale skin on his cheek lightly, "Loki, I love you."
Those are the first words you have said since he finally decided to shift in front of you. You watched quietly as his skin turned a deep blue, intricate designs traveled across his skin in thin ridges. You wanted to trace them with your fingertips lightly but you were unsure of how Loki would react. He took a slow, deep breath before lifting his head to look at you. Your eyes locking with his crimson eyes only briefly before he looked away again. He only remained in his Jotun form for a minute, two at most before he shifted back.
"I love you, too," he says despite the fear quickly building in him.
You smile genuinely, "Please don't look so worried." He smiles but your heart aches at how forced it seems. "Thank you telling me about Odin and Laufey. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to go through all of that alone. I wish I had known you then, I wish I could have helped you see that you aren't like either of them and you deserved to be treated so much better."
He nods, his eyes focusing on his hands as he rubs them nervously. You cover his hands with yours and he looks up again. "Look at me, I want to tell you something and I need to make sure you hear me," you say.
"What's that darling?" he asks, trying to push away his concerns.
"This doesn't change anything between us, nothing ever will I promise. You are still the man I fell in love with, whether you are from Asgard or Jotunheim or some other realm I've never heard of," you watch the fear gradually fade from his eyes.
"I want you to keep talking to me about this if you need to, I'm here to listen and tell you Odin was an ass and a bad father," you tell him and he chuckles lightly at your offer although you mean it sincerely. From all you had heard so far, you were all to happy to never met Asgard's king.
"Don't forget, you will always be my favorite alien, no matter what," you add with a grin.
Loki laughs and shakes his head but you smile wider, as he appears less tense, "I beg your pardon, but did you just call me an alien?"
"You are an alien," you tell him matter of factly.
"My dear sweet mortal, I am a god," he says, the confident Loki you love returning swiftly as he puts his long arm around your waist.
"Mmhmm..." you hum and roll your eyes dramatically. He loves to remind you of that.
"And don't forget, I am a prince in not one but two realms," he adds with a smirk.
"Exactly, because you were born on a different planet- or realm or whatever you call it and that makes you an alien but that wasn't my original point," you laugh.
"What was your point then?" he asks.
"That I love you, every bit of you no matter where you are from or who your father is," you tell him. "I loved you when I thought you were an Asgardian and I will love you the same now that I know you are a Jotun because you are still you. You are still my Loki."
He leans forward and kisses you, your hands grip the fabric on the back of his shirt to pull him closer to you. When he breaks the kiss, he touches your cheek softly, "I love you Y/N."
You smile, "I love you, my alien."
He chuckles again, "That is the last time you will call me that." Before you can argue that it is accurate, he shifts you both so you are laying on your back on the couch and he is positioned above you. He presses his lips to yours fiercely as his body settles on yours.
I hope you liked this!! Please like, share and comment if you did 💚💚 Please let me know if you want to be added to my taglist!

What If...? S2 E7 proves that Odin is the shittiest father of the MCU. Hela's bloodlust was the result of Odin's bad parenting.
Hela was one of the first victims of Odin. She never wanted to be an executioner. She was just a child who wanted to play with her wolf and be happy and free.
ODIN WAS/IS THE PROBLEM.

not a fan of people saying Odin and Loki are similar in a moral or decisive sense, particularly when it comes to Thor. that makes it sound like Loki doesn't know Thor or care about him beyond what he symbolises (regarding Asgard/the throne/family/worthiness), when that's a defining part of their relationship
#like i get WHY people go 'oh Thor is like Frigga (they care™/bring Emotions in) and Loki is like Odin (calculating™ /For The Greater Good)'#but if you make such a clearcut comparison you neglect a lot of stuff that Odin and Loki do drastically different#like there are literal contrasts that are pretty evident around Thor particularly#like Odin does expect Thor to be some ideal version of himself that obeys Odin implicitly and doesn't have his own volatile emotions?#while Loki more sees that Thor isn't who he tries to pretend to be and generally encourages Thor to realize that#the most obvious parallel would be how they in TDW try telling Thor that Jane won't work out#and Odin goes for the whole 'well they're insignificant' angle despite Thor caring about the humans and Jane particularly#Odin tries to go 'here's Sif and since you shouldn't have your own preferences (they're wrong and bad) consider my choice'#he largely disregards Thor's emotions#most people do on Asgard????#like it's literally wild how everyone saw Thor being major depressed and they basically told him to pretend to cheer up#like im sorry Thor's grief means nothing to y;all. he fell in love with someone very mortal and his brother is changed forever#Loki tries putting Thor off by first off. Thor KNOWS Jane isn't going to live long he's not never thought about it#he doesn't even make the decision for Thor he tells him to consider his choice well bc it WILL hurt him when she's gone#Loki is like treats Thor like a person and Odin is like nah I own him#I feel like in converting the brother/father relationship difference over people lose the differences in those aspect#they skip to similarities of heartlessness and Machiavellian ends meeting the means when Loki overall is#a far more moral character than Thor (at the start of Thor's arc) and Odin. and a lot of culturally Asgardian ideas#that's literally part of Loki's original characterization that he DIDN'T match up with their views#he didn't do stuff like take killing lightly like it's for fun and that's one of a long list of obvious aspects that make the setup cool#don't tell me Odin and Loki are the same#like there's some blanket understanding that Loki doesn't show or care about the people he loves#while Thor and Frigga have always been softhearted and refused to sacrifice themselves for what is deemed better for everyone#don't mistake selfishness for apathy and don't say Loki didn't cry himself through the first movie because duty to the throne comes first#that's literally Thor's bit#idk

||. was browsing through tags of a comic thor post and found this beauty in someone's tags:
i love the acknowledgement of odin as a godking above father & how that’s hurt thor not just loki
obviously, I won't name the person's reblog on this blog but it's something I've always felt is largely true about the mcu odinfam situation, particularly where the father and the boys are involved.
Odin's parenting style (being strict, and the all-father above just a father), hurt Thor just as much as Loki. They were both hurt by their parents and especially in vying for their father's approval. (aka: his affections, because really any child desperate for their parent's attention, approval, pride is really just craving unconditional love.) People seem hard pressed to believe that this sort of pain was exclusive to Loki... which I fundamentally don't understand. (Need I remind everyone that Odin didn't just say "you're unworthy to call yourself a king and a hero bc you're being selfish in your ambitions"... which is true. He also got a good, walloping "you are unworthy of the loved ones you have betrayed" TO HIS FACE before being stripped of his powers and banished to some backwater planet for an indefinite amount of time...)
The reality of the situation is Loki always had Frigga to lean on, confide in, and be in his corner. Even if it was off-screen, truth is that he told Frigga what he learned about being a Frost Giant the first chance he got. He confided in her his worry for Odin's health ("i never get used to seeing him like this"). She actively expresses support and validation in front of him in a way that Loki at least positively acknowledges even if he doesn't always receive the words, and while I don't believe Thor wouldn't have gained the same solace from his mother, I am of the opinion - based on (this deleted scene from "THOR") in particular - that she would give support in the same way she would with Loki ... and it never landed with Thor. Because Thor is not Loki. And Frigga doesn't always know how to speak to Thor so Thor can hear her.
So, really at the end of the day, whether it was true or not, Thor only had himself to emotionally rely on. Coupled then with being primarily under the express tutelage of an extraordinarily strict father who was priming Thor to uphold his own legacy, (apparently not be anything like Hela despite the two kids being polar opposites) and 'never seek out war but must always be ready for it' and then you get a sentiment that ultimately can be summarized in Thor's words at the end of Dark World when he comments his reason for surrendering his birthright of his own volition: "I would rather be a good man than a great king." (which, sidebar, but I am entirely convinced is Thor commenting on his father's way of ruling, his father's way of parenting, his father's way of being. And quite frankly, no, I don't think the real Odin would ever let Thor give up his birthright to go live on Earth when Odin is old, dying, and the whole of Asgard is primed and ready to follow Thor as their new All-Father.)
alt., in the words of comic!thor his (extremely mixed) opinion of Odin:
"A hard god, my father, but one who would move heaven and earth for his children. And did , quite literally, on many occasions. From Odin, I learned command. I learned the ways of the worlds and the godly arts of war."
#(not really a full meta or w/e bc one day i should really go through the entire 2 thor films and compile)#(all of my thoughts on every thor/odin interaction but tl;dr their relationship is a mess.)#( meta . ) — son of cosmos . lightning flows through thy veins .#my meta#(thor loves him and he wants to make him proud but he also wants to be nothing like him...)#(all because thor's instinct is to follow his heart - and odin's is to follow his head. those two things are at conflict with one another.)#(and yet despite everything thor is still that same little boy-)#(-who looked up at his father and saw this legendary hero. a true warrior. the pride of all of asgard who is a mighty hero and great king)#(who was able to keep bad people in line by being SO strong they were scared to oppose him and was still the wisest in all of asgard-)#((besides his mother))-#(because he knew better than to seek out war without a good reason)#(imo keeping true to that and adding in the element of ... //sighs loudly// h e l a -- means delving into thor's psyche and figuring out-)#(-at what point does his adoration of odin breed resentment and insecurity and subservience bc-)#(lbr it's all there. it's just not as loud as loki's literal crying and screaming about his daddy issues)#(which isn't shade to loki he just literally screams and cries about it. thor ....very rarely speaks his true heart about this topic.)#( ooc . ) — stories that leap from the page .#long post#(sorry for not putting it under a read more folks but it's too important to me)

'𝐔𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐌.' 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋, 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐒. thor's eye crinkled at the very edges with the ghost of laugh lines as his lips pinched into some semblance of a dry smile. following loki's movements keenly , he considered his words still. ❝ yes , i would imagine you do. ❞
for would it not be loki , god of mischief , not to consider each and every angle from a distance? ( some things never changed. ) with a small huff , thor shook his head and stood to his own feet. his hand was offered to the dramatic mess of a man still knelt dourly at his feet.
but whether loki took his hand or not , when the two stood side by side it was not towards loki that thor searched. in a rare display of vexation , his brow had furrowed and his frown deepened. like wires pulled taught , his arms wound securely across his chest as he surveyed the land. gardens and people and strange creatures he knew not. loki at his side still , though with a temper so foul it was all so at odds with one another thor could not help but find it all rather ... IRONIC AT BEST.
. . . his thoughts blurred together. a slow and deliberate fog descended then. — its presence harkened the onset of a battering headache. thor finally rent his gaze from the vestiges of houses afar and turned to the only companion that seemed to matter. ( though his words still came from a distance , through the fog that descended and marred his own vision. )
❝ ... i haven't fallen into a Sleep again , have i..? ❞
Ignore that feeling. Ignore the memories. He would beg the norns if he thought they might listen to him ( he knew they wouldn't . ) He had to gather scattered thoughts once more, recenter the cleverness - what was the reason among the rhyme?
' . . . there is no magic in this or any realm that comes without beginning or without an end '
Was this place as any other realm? Loki found his eyes look to the gardens, ever flourishing, full of life. There were voices beyond the trees, and beyond those were sounds that teemed of civilization... just as any realm would have.
And yet in every other realm, he would have had his gifts, his weapons ... Thor would have had the same. Though in that mind, Thor had been mortal once before ( so cruel to put the hammer just out of his reach ). There seemed no tether as Odin had for Thor, but he knew not what magic this world possessed.
He loathed to admit it ( he would rather- ) but ... it was possible ... Thor was thinking more clearly than he. All magic had an origin, his skill was in how to draw it out - that was what mother had taught him before. They had to learn how to do it all over again ( what a pain. )
He simply sighed deeply, long, drawn out through his nose with closed eyes. Breathe you fool, your temper is showing. He searched his hands once more, the wounds still present... frigid. He didn't notice it at all.
❝ What comfort. ❞ To be reminded of something he would prefer to forget ( there was no getting rid of the blood of monsters within him. ) a coldness he couldn't shake, a curse in other realms ... but not mortal indeed.
❝ Just because I no longer abuse this structure, does not mean my anger is any less dulled. ❞ He pauses, looking up to his brother once again. ❝ I grant you acknowledgment of your theories, regardless of how your unfounded optimism stands. ❞
He reached for the device and key he had been granted, he would retrieve the diadem in a moment ( it would not be hard to find ) ❝ I need to consider this... ❞ Alone.
#( ic . ) — son of odin . the crown is a heavy burden for thee .#( closed . ) — locked in father's vault .#mischiefmodig / o1#mischiefmodig#( :D when u know that u've been storm sick for months and ur brain is trying to grapple with... EVERYTHING. )#( thor vc: i've dreamt stranger things. and worse things... )#( thor is also just like 'yeah i could see maybe it got that bad and now i'm just really delirious that's entirely plausible' )#( .... but yknow it's /fine/ he's ... coping )
