Thank you to everyone who's purchased Rotting Trees so far. If you can't purchase a copy, you can get it absolutely free from your local library as an ebook or paperback. If it doesn't show in the library's catalogue search or your e-book app, you might have to ask at the desk and/or fill in a form - it'll depend on the library system.

Ahhhh. Another bag of shite that doesn't get recognized nearly enough for the horror, pain, and murder he caused.
Odilo Globočnik was a nazi from Austria and a perpetrator of the Holocaust. Let me get something straight. Most members of the SS were, in some way, linked to the Holocaust.
Globočnik was a high ranked mber of the SS. He played a leading role in Operation Reinhard, the organized murder of around one and a half million Jews, mostly of Polish origin, during the Holocaust in the Majdanek, Treblinka, Sobibór and Bełżec extermination camps.
Historian Michael Allen described him as "the vilest individual in the vilest organization ever known".
Luckily, this bag killed himself shortly after his capture and detention by British soldiers. Once again, he knew he was on the wrong side of history and couldn't stand up for his "ideology".
In August 1933, Globočnik was arrested for the first time. Why? For his attempt to contact imprisoned nazis in Klagenfurt. In the same year, he became a member of the Austrian SS. He was arrested due to his public support for the nazi Party (NSDAP), as he had become a member of the party in 1931 while he was in Carinthia. Although he was arrested four times between 1933 and 1935, he served just over a year in jail on various political charges.
Heinrich Himmler intervened on his behalf, after two years of arguments between Globočnik and the authorities.
His first documented activity for the NSDAP occurred in 1931 when he was documented as distributing propaganda for the party. By then, he had nearly abandoned his work as a building tradesman, and attached himself very closely to the NSDAP. He was assigned to develop a courier and intelligence service for the NSDAP, which channelled funds from Germany into Austria.
In June 1933, in Vienna, Jewish jeweller Norbert Futterweit was killed when a bomb was thrown at his shop. This was among the earliest murders in Austria attributable to the nazis, and a number of historians believe that Globočnik was involved in the attack.
Globočnik joined the SS on 1 September 1934. His devotion to the nazi cause paid off, as he was quickly promoted in the party apparatus in Austria.
He became a Deputy Gauleiter briefly in Vienna and then in Carinthia between January and May 1933. He was appointed as the head of the party intelligence apparatus in Carinthia, serving from 1934 to 1936.
From September 1936 to May 1938, he served as the Chief of Staff of the National Leadership of the Austrian nazi Party under Hubert Klausner.
Globočnik was a key player in the usurpation of the Austrian government by the nazis. With the Anschluss, Nazi Germany annexed Austria on 12 March 1938.
Globočnik was rewarded with an appointment as a State Secretary in the nazi government, established by Arthur Seyss-Inquart on 15 March. On 10 April 1938, he was elected to the Reichstag. Next came his appointment as Gauleiter of Vienna on 22 May 1938 by the Austrian dude.
Early gestures of accommodation to the new government by Cardinal Innitzer did not assuage the Austrian nazi radicals, foremost among them being Globočnik. He launched a crusade against the Church, and the nazis confiscated property, closed Catholic organisations and sent many priests to Dachau. Anger at the treatment of the Church in Austria grew quickly, and in October 1938 the first act of overt mass resistance to the new regime took place. A rally of thousands left Mass in Vienna chanting "Christ is our Führer". Okay, a wee bit odd but whatever.
Globočnik was relieved of his posts and stripped of his party honours on 30 January 1939, when it was discovered that he was involved in illegal foreign currency speculation. As punishment, Himmler transferred Globočnik to the Waffen-SS, in the rank of junior sergeant (Unterscharführer), where he served with SS Standarte "Germania" during the Polish campaign. Himmler liked Globočnik and recognised his value. In late 1939, Globočnik was pardoned, promoted to SS-Brigadeführer, and assigned to Lublin province. Fucking Himmler, chinless little toady that he was.
On 16 February 1940, Globočnik declared: "The evacuated Jews should feed themselves and be supported by their countrymen, as these Jews have enough [food]. If this does not succeed, one should let them starve." Lovely gentleman he was not.
There are indications that Globočnik, along with a chief accomplice Christian Wirth, may have originated the concept of the extermination camp and industrialised murder, and suggested the concept to Himmler. However, it is hearsay to a certain extent.
Globočnik received verbal approval from chinless dude, errrr Himmler, to begin construction of the Belzec extermination camp.
On 14 October 1941 – the day after he had met with Globočnik – Himmler held a five-hour meeting with Reinhard Heydrich to discuss "executions", following which other extermination camp gassing sites were built.
Days later, Himmler forbade all further Jewish emigration from Reich territory "in view of the forthcoming 'Final Solution' to the Jewish question.
Yes, yes, hello Reinhard. Yes, the place smells like sulfer and it's very hot. Not my problem bruh. You brought that shit on yourself. Assbutt.
With the advance of Allied troops in 1945, Globočnik retreated into Austrian Carinthia and finally went into hiding high in the mountains near Weissensee, still in the company of his closest staff members.
Globočnik was tracked down and captured by a British armoured cavalry unit on 31 May 1945 in Carinthia, Austria. A unit from the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, found him on the Möslacher Alm, a 1,250 m (4,100 ft) mountain in the Eastern Alps, with seven other wanted Nazis: Georg Michalsen, Friedrich Rainer, Ernst Lerch, Hermann Höfle, Karl Hellesberger, Hugo Herzog and Friedrich Plöb. Globočnik was taken to Paternion in Villach-Land District to be interrogated. However, before he was questioned, Globočnik committed suicide by biting on a cyanide capsule. Insert chicken clucking here. No wonder Himmler couldn't maintain a chicken farm, they were all chickenshits.
Globočnik's body was taken to be buried in a local churchyard, but the priest reportedly refused to have "the body of such a man" resting in consecrated ground. A grave was dug outside the churchyard, next to an outer wall, and the body was buried without ceremony. Fitting. Very fitting.
For a little curveball into matters, it was speculated that his death came at the hands of either partisans or a Jewish revenge squad, or that he was turned over alive to US intelligence by the British. In the 1980s it was proven that this information was indeed false. The bastard took his own life. Bwak! Bwak!
(Can y'all tell someone is feeling kind of bitchy today?)

Marcello's Mysterious Necklace
Tumblr media
after making this thing out of clay, i wondered again what this unexplained design only seen on our favorite bastard even is.
it kind of looks like an annular (ring-shaped) Celtic brooch that had its pin partially broken off.
Tumblr media
And a penannular (incomplete ring-shaped) one that actually has the pin broken off: the Breadalbane brooch.
Tumblr media
So that could be its original use, but what about its origin? The closest symbol I could find is this...
Tumblr media
"But if you stand between me and my destiny..."
The brooch could be merch from Neos. There's no pin on this symbol, so it was modified for this purpose.
Maybe at some point in the past, Marcello's mother made a pilgrimage to Neos and bought one. Or it could have been a gift from Abbot Francisco.
Tumblr media
It's not visible later, presumably because it made him recognizable and it's a religious symbol. He either trashed it, or it's just under his shirt and closer to his heart

Gotta say, thank you very much for sharing your insights into the 2025 conclave. I love reading them; your takes and bringing into focus people largely overlooked by English speaking media.
I'd love to know where you look for information and (you've probably answered this before but I'll ask anyway) was there anything that you think may have happened prior to the 2013 conclave that influenced appointing Francis as Pope?
Once again thank you for sharing your takes, I'm looking forward to your posts!
Hello!
So to answer your second question first: yes, I know a fair amount about the dynamics leading up to the conclave that elected Francis twelve years ago, although a lot of it is stuff I've actually learned fairly recently. While official balloting counts of papal conclaves do not exist, unofficial counts do tend to emerge afterwards, and from the ones for 2013 we see the future Pope Francis (i.e. Jorge Mario Bergoglio) initially positioned as one of three softcore/mainstream conservative vote-getters, along with Canada's Marc Ouellet and Italy's Angelo Scola. Bergoglio then cannibalizes the votes of moderate cardinals Sean Patrick O'Malley (USA) and Odilo Scherer (Brazil), and finally picks up more and more of Ouellet's supporters until he defeats Scola after five ballots.
This is in part speculative, but the conventional wisdom/widespread educated guess is that Bergoglio started as a Latin American regional favorite who then gradually became the "anyone but Scola" candidate because of how the math shook out. It should be remembered that the 2013 conclave, unlike this year's, was, or at least seemed, fairly ideologically homogeneous; everyone in it had been appointed by John Paul II or Benedict XVI (themselves very similar to each other in most ways), and there was not a clear "progressive" option. What happened with Pope Francis as time went on was that it turned out that the Latin American cultural and theological environment that he came up in, when "scaled up" to the global Church, looked very different from Euro "conservative Catholicism". What we got from that was twelve years of a Pope who didn't actually make any major changes to Catholic doctrine and who had plenty of "hot mic" moments about women or gays of the sort one would expect from an elderly Peronist living and working in Italy, but who was enormously more concerned with what kind of place the Church was--how welcoming it was--for people who just "weren't like" the Central European and Northern Italian aristocrats and academics around John Paul and Benedict.
Also, people forget this today, but as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio came across as much more doctrinaire and conservative, especially on issues related to sex, than he did as Pope. You can still find lots of LGBT South Americans, including LGBT South American Catholics, who have a very different and much less positive opinion of Francis than do similar people from other parts of the world. Suddenly having to deal with a worldwide constituency genuinely changed his way of looking at some things. The same might happen with a successor who isn't as good on these issues (then again it might not). With Cardinal Ambongo (papabile, deeply homophobic but otherwise Francis-aligned Archbishop of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo) in particular there are reasons to believe that if he became Pope it'd be politically and logistically very difficult for him to reverse Francis's more pro-LGBT decisions, even though he might want to.
The Latin American cardinals of twelve years ago, who weren't well-understood in the West and who ended up producing, arguably even imposing, a Pope who reigned the way Francis did, are today the African and Asian cardinals who don't like gay people very much and often aren't crazy about women either, but who over the past week have mostly been interested in talking about climate change, decentralizing Church governance structures, and fighting terrorism through interreligious dialogue.
As to where I look for information: I first found these sources by Googling the cardinals' names and reading anything that didn't look like generic Global North boilerplate, but some that I've found that way are ACI Africa, 9News Nigeria, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Kaniva Tonga News, Radio New Zealand, the Papua New Guinea Post-Courier, and the Straits Times out of Singapore.
I hope some of this helps/is of interest to you!

Throughout his entire career architect Kurt Ackermann (1928-2014) continuously pursued a philosophy of constructive intelligence characterized by highest quality achieved with economical means and a comprehensible construction instead of gimmicky showmanship. And as a true all-rounder he worked on basically every building task: single-family homes, bridges, churches, office buildings and infrastructural works all were part of portfolio. In many of these projects Ackermann sought the close exchange with engineers resulting in a distinctive technological edge. The collaboration with engineers also was something Ackermann always fostered and encouraged, also in his teaching as professor at Stuttgart University.
In 2006 Matthias Schirren edited the present volume with Hatje Cantz that documents the multifacetedness: „Kurt Ackermann - Das Gesamtwerk des Architekten“ besides a complete work catalogue and numerous representative studies of highlight projects includes a number of insightful essays that address particular aspects of Ackermann’s work. Manfred Sack e.g. sheds light on the technicity of Ackermann’s buildings while the Abbot Odilo Lechner, based on his first hand experience with the architect, reports on his religious buildings. What emerges is the portrait of an architect whose architecture is the expression of his ethos: collaboration rather than self-realization and project specific solutions instead of repeating once found ones. An admirable attitude wonderfully presented in an elegant book.

Ghost Bricks is Coming!
Tumblr media
Cover art by Jerome Timinski
Out around The Rockies and too many disasters deep, three young scavengers have become fast friends amid a dangerous and uncaring world.
Tiberius Casella, street-smart and confident, leads the gang from one job to the next with just a grin and a prayer.
Sloan Schaffer, a sharpshooter with a too-quick trigger finger, keeps the worst foes at bay.
And Asher Davis, caring, quiet, and tough as an ox, might just be the glue that holds the whole gang together.
The bond they've formed, however, has yet to face it's ultimate test. What happens when a father's gift turns out to be a curse? What happens when a greater evil turns its eye on the group? How can three kids with nothing but luck on their side hold it together against the odds?
Ghost Bricks (volume 1) is done after two long and chaotic years of work! It all started as a strange dream (literally, I had a dream about it) and now it's real!
It will be available for purchase on August 31st, (THAT'S ONLY FOUR DAYS AWAY) and preorders are already available!
It'll be up for grabs basically everywhere you can think, including my ko-fi!
---
This link will remain up-to-date with all the places that it's available besides Ko-fi
You can currently pre-order on Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, Rakuten Kobo, Fable, Smashwords, Everand, OverDrive, Odilo, Gardners, Baker & Taylor, Cloud Library, Tolino, Thalia, and Vivlio

Power-Less Main Cast/ROs
Brief Overview
Alessandro/Alessandra "Sandro/Sandra) Medici
Superhero|Hyperion|Solar Empowered|29
The top superhero in the city of Eden Park, who uses their sun powered abilities to bring peace and hope to the citizens. The closest thing to a modern Superman for how powerful they are and inspiring the common folk with their upbeat and positive attitude. Almost a sun personified. But like all superheroes, they have a secret identity when they're not flying over the skyscrapers and clouds. For they're one of MC's best friends when they're not wearing their golden tights and cape.
Damon/Damian Barnett
Supervillain|Azrael|Shadow Manipulation|29
The nemesis of Hyperion and the dreaded supervillain of Eden Park. The dark shadows that always followed them caused dread within the populace, their black visage making all fear of what could come next. It would make sense that the top supervillain and superhero would be such polar opposites despite being former partners in justice years ago. But regardless of their issues with Hyperion, they're willing to put that aside monetary for their best friend,MC, who doesn't know their identity.
Emil/Emilie Ellingboe
Vigilante|The Marshall|Empath|30
A well-known vigilante who stalks the alleyways and back corners of the city for trouble. They were once a soldier who had wanted to find purpose in their life after being discharged, so they became a vigilante to protect the common people from the criminals that superheroes won't touch and deal with the seedy underbelly of the city. They're also the thorn in MC's side with their antics since MC is often called to deal with them. But many don't know what actual connects these two.
Jamie Dantes
Revolutionary|Abbadon|Reactive Adaption|28
The leader of a growing anarchist group who operates in the underground. Nobody knows who and where this person came from, but most know that they have all consuming hatred for the government and the system of superpowers. They've slowly created a group to topple the system down through force and blood, gathering other like minded people who hate the system. But they hold a strange fondness for MC, a fact picked up by their comrades since they proclaim the officer off limits in any of the group plans.
Odilo/Odila Monet
Investigative Reporter|Memory|32
A reporter in the biggest newspaper in the city. They're not the lead reporter in their division, but are still well known for picking up facts and happenings in the cities like a bloodhound. Often, they disappear for days investigating a lead even if it seems frivolous or a red herring. One of these trips lead them to discovering a strange rumbling in their city which will spell trouble for everybody whether they're civilians, superheroes, or villains. Which led them to MC, their most trusted source within the police department.
Nikol/Nikolai Kovaylov
Engineer|Tyro|Unpowered|26
The mechanic and engineer of the items used by the superheroes stationed in Eden Park. But they're mainly known as the sidekick of Hyperion despite being considered a unpowered person. Tyro is often having to keep everything in check when their partner is doing their thing, mostly helping with evacuations and dealing with lower thugs. However, they're often overlooked due to the extravagance of Hyeprion's actions. But they often find some solace in their fellow unpowered, MC, even if they feel something off about the officer.
