✌The Rise and Fall of Odilo Globocnik
Odilo Globocnik was an Austrian-born SS officer who played a pivotal role in implementing the Nazi “Final Solution” and orchestrating some of the most horrific atrocities of the Holocaust. Marcello's Mysterious Necklace
Tumblr media
after making this thing out of clay, i wondered again what this unexplained design only seen on our favorite bastard even is.
it kind of looks like an annular (ring-shaped) Celtic brooch that had its pin partially broken off.
Tumblr media
And a penannular (incomplete ring-shaped) one that actually has the pin broken off: the Breadalbane brooch.
Tumblr media
So that could be its original use, but what about its origin? The closest symbol I could find is this...
Tumblr media
"But if you stand between me and my destiny..."
The brooch could be merch from Neos. There's no pin on this symbol, so it was modified for this purpose.
Maybe at some point in the past, Marcello's mother made a pilgrimage to Neos and bought one. Or it could have been a gift from Abbot Francisco.
Tumblr media
It's not visible later, presumably because it made him recognizable and it's a religious symbol. He either trashed it, or it's just under his shirt and closer to his heart

Hl. Odilo
gefeiert am 18. Januar
Hl. Odilo Herzog von Bayern, Klostergründer † 18. Januar 748

Hunger Pangs is rolling out into Kobo Plus in the UK this week, as well as the Odilo expanded library service.
So hopefully, that means if your library pushed it back before, you might have an easier time getting it now. Like many other digital library lending services, Odilo also allows me to get paid every time a digital copy gets checked out. So thank you to everyone who uses library lending services. My third biggest royalties all come from places like Libby and other online libraries. You're helping me keep the lights on 😂

Throughout his entire career architect Kurt Ackermann (1928-2014) continuously pursued a philosophy of constructive intelligence characterized by highest quality achieved with economical means and a comprehensible construction instead of gimmicky showmanship. And as a true all-rounder he worked on basically every building task: single-family homes, bridges, churches, office buildings and infrastructural works all were part of portfolio. In many of these projects Ackermann sought the close exchange with engineers resulting in a distinctive technological edge. The collaboration with engineers also was something Ackermann always fostered and encouraged, also in his teaching as professor at Stuttgart University.
In 2006 Matthias Schirren edited the present volume with Hatje Cantz that documents the multifacetedness: „Kurt Ackermann - Das Gesamtwerk des Architekten“ besides a complete work catalogue and numerous representative studies of highlight projects includes a number of insightful essays that address particular aspects of Ackermann’s work. Manfred Sack e.g. sheds light on the technicity of Ackermann’s buildings while the Abbot Odilo Lechner, based on his first hand experience with the architect, reports on his religious buildings. What emerges is the portrait of an architect whose architecture is the expression of his ethos: collaboration rather than self-realization and project specific solutions instead of repeating once found ones. An admirable attitude wonderfully presented in an elegant book.

Ghost Bricks is Coming!
Tumblr media
Cover art by Jerome Timinski
Out around The Rockies and too many disasters deep, three young scavengers have become fast friends amid a dangerous and uncaring world.
Tiberius Casella, street-smart and confident, leads the gang from one job to the next with just a grin and a prayer.
Sloan Schaffer, a sharpshooter with a too-quick trigger finger, keeps the worst foes at bay.
And Asher Davis, caring, quiet, and tough as an ox, might just be the glue that holds the whole gang together.
The bond they've formed, however, has yet to face it's ultimate test. What happens when a father's gift turns out to be a curse? What happens when a greater evil turns its eye on the group? How can three kids with nothing but luck on their side hold it together against the odds?
Ghost Bricks (volume 1) is done after two long and chaotic years of work! It all started as a strange dream (literally, I had a dream about it) and now it's real!
It will be available for purchase on August 31st, (THAT'S ONLY FOUR DAYS AWAY) and preorders are already available!
It'll be up for grabs basically everywhere you can think, including my ko-fi!
---
This link will remain up-to-date with all the places that it's available besides Ko-fi
You can currently pre-order on Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, Rakuten Kobo, Fable, Smashwords, Everand, OverDrive, Odilo, Gardners, Baker & Taylor, Cloud Library, Tolino, Thalia, and Vivlio

Power-Less Main Cast/ROs
Brief Overview
Alessandro/Alessandra "Sandro/Sandra) Medici
Superhero|Hyperion|Solar Empowered|29
The top superhero in the city of Eden Park, who uses their sun powered abilities to bring peace and hope to the citizens. The closest thing to a modern Superman for how powerful they are and inspiring the common folk with their upbeat and positive attitude. Almost a sun personified. But like all superheroes, they have a secret identity when they're not flying over the skyscrapers and clouds. For they're one of MC's best friends when they're not wearing their golden tights and cape.
Damon/Damian Barnett
Supervillain|Azrael|Shadow Manipulation|29
The nemesis of Hyperion and the dreaded supervillain of Eden Park. The dark shadows that always followed them caused dread within the populace, their black visage making all fear of what could come next. It would make sense that the top supervillain and superhero would be such polar opposites despite being former partners in justice years ago. But regardless of their issues with Hyperion, they're willing to put that aside monetary for their best friend,MC, who doesn't know their identity.
Emil/Emilie Ellingboe
Vigilante|The Marshall|Empath|30
A well-known vigilante who stalks the alleyways and back corners of the city for trouble. They were once a soldier who had wanted to find purpose in their life after being discharged, so they became a vigilante to protect the common people from the criminals that superheroes won't touch and deal with the seedy underbelly of the city. They're also the thorn in MC's side with their antics since MC is often called to deal with them. But many don't know what actual connects these two.
Jamie Dantes
Revolutionary|Abbadon|Reactive Adaption|28
The leader of a growing anarchist group who operates in the underground. Nobody knows who and where this person came from, but most know that they have all consuming hatred for the government and the system of superpowers. They've slowly created a group to topple the system down through force and blood, gathering other like minded people who hate the system. But they hold a strange fondness for MC, a fact picked up by their comrades since they proclaim the officer off limits in any of the group plans.
Odilo/Odila Monet
Investigative Reporter|Memory|32
A reporter in the biggest newspaper in the city. They're not the lead reporter in their division, but are still well known for picking up facts and happenings in the cities like a bloodhound. Often, they disappear for days investigating a lead even if it seems frivolous or a red herring. One of these trips lead them to discovering a strange rumbling in their city which will spell trouble for everybody whether they're civilians, superheroes, or villains. Which led them to MC, their most trusted source within the police department.
Nikol/Nikolai Kovaylov
Engineer|Tyro|Unpowered|26
The mechanic and engineer of the items used by the superheroes stationed in Eden Park. But they're mainly known as the sidekick of Hyperion despite being considered a unpowered person. Tyro is often having to keep everything in check when their partner is doing their thing, mostly helping with evacuations and dealing with lower thugs. However, they're often overlooked due to the extravagance of Hyeprion's actions. But they often find some solace in their fellow unpowered, MC, even if they feel something off about the officer.

LGBT+ Catholic Couples in Brazil Seek Blessing after Vatican Approval
Faithful celebrate Pope Francis's historic decision, even though priests are not obliged to administer the blessing
Tumblr media
"The love of God is for everyone, and the church has finally had the courage to accept that," declares 25-year-old Daniella Cardozo from Rio de Janeiro. Bisexual, she has been in a relationship with Marianne de Luna, 28, since mid-2020. A Catholic, she plans to seek a blessing for their union after the Vatican's approval. In a historic decision, the Apostolic See authorized the blessing for same-sex spouses this Monday (18). In Brazil, the National Network of LGBT+ Catholic Groups celebrates the news. For the group, it recognizes and validates the existence of diverse families by the Catholic Church. It is, they say, a positive step towards visibility and acceptance of different forms of love in the community.
However, the papal government did not change its ban on same-sex marriage. The text signed by Pope Francis emphasizes that the act of liturgical giving to same-sex couples should in no way resemble marriage. According to Cardinal Odilo Scherer, archbishop of São Paulo, the opinion is clear. "These are blessings granted by the Church to individuals. This is different from celebrating a marriage or taking action with legal and institutional effects," he wrote to Folha.

All Souls Day, Notre-Dame D’Emminont / Our Lady of Emminont. France (12th Century) and Memorials of the Saints for 2 November
All Souls Day – The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed: Commemoration of the faithful departed in Purgatory. Abbot Odilo of Cluny instituted it in the Monasteries of his congregation in 998, other religious orders took up the observance and it was adopted by various Diocese and gradually by the whole Church. The commemoration of all the faithful departed is celebrated by the Church on November 2, or, if this falls on a Sunday or a solemnity, the feast is celebrated on November 3.
The Office of the Dead must be recited by the clergy on this day, and all the Masses are to be of Requiem except one of the current feast, where this is of obligation.
Through prayer, intercessions, alms, and visits to cemeteries, people commemorate the poor souls in purgatory and gain them indulgences.
The theological basis for the feast is the doctrine that the souls which, on departing from the body are not perfectly cleansed from venial sins, or have not fully atoned for past transgressions, are debarred from the Beatific Vision, and that the faithful on earth can help them by prayers, almsgiving, and especially the sacrifice of the Mass.
In the early days of Christianity, the names of the departed brethren were entered in the diptychs.
Later, in the sixth century, it was customary in Benedictine monasteries to hold a commemoration of the deceased members at Whitsuntide.
In Spain, there was such a day on Saturday before Sexagesima or before Pentecost, at the time of Saint Isidore (d. 636).
In Germany, there existed (according to the testimony of Widukind, Abbot of Corvey, c.980) a time-honoured ceremony of praying to the dead on October 1. This was accepted and sanctified by the Church.
Saint Odilo of Cluny ordered that the commemoration of all the faithful departed be held annually in the monasteries of his congregation.
From here, it spread among the other congregations of the Benedictines and among the Carthusians.
Of all the dioceses, Liège was the first to adopt it under Bishop Notger (d. 1008).
It is then found in the martyrology of Saint Protadius of Besançon (1053-66).
Bishop Otricus (1120-25) introduced it into Milan for October 15.
In Spain, Portugal and Latin America, priests say three Masses on this day.
A similar concession for the entire world was asked of Pope Leo XIII; he would not grant the favour but ordered a special Requiem on Sunday, 30 September 1888.
In the Greek Rite, this commemoration is held on the eve of Sexagesima Sunday, or on the eve of Pentecost.
The Armenians celebrate the passover of the dead on the day after Easter.
