Octavia beating up Bellamy is completely absurd.

Just to clarify, this is not a post about how it is abuse, and why it’s horrible from that standpoint. (It is abuse, and there is a whole lot to say from that standpoint, I’m just not the right person to say it)

We found out what Octavia was going to do to Bellamy before the season even started. It was horrible and shocking for many reasons, but for me it was because I wanted to know what on earth Bellamy was going to do that would make Octavia treat him like that. 

Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely no way to justify Octavia beating up Bellamy, but I at least hoped for a better explanation that the one it seems that we’re going to get.

In seasons 1 and 2, and even the beginning of season 3, Octavia and Bellamy were so protective of eachother. They may not have gotten along, but they protected each other no matter what the costs. Knowing this, I knew that something drastically horrible had to happen, and that Bellamy was going to, at the very least, cause something very bad to happen that would deeply affect Octavia.

I don’t believe that’s happened. Yes, Bellamy has done some horrible things, and yes, something horrible has happened to Octavia, but the issue is that they are not the same event, or chain of events. 

There are a lot of differing opinions on what has happened to Bellamy this season. I’m not going to get into it because that’s a whole other post, but I think that everyone can agree that he’s doing almost the exact opposite of what he would have done last season, and that his actions are the opposite of what Octavia would do. In short, they are on opposing sides.

The horrible thing that deeply affected Octavia, was Lincoln dying while she watched. Lincoln’s death is a whole other issue that I’m not going to get into right now, but the general consensus of the fandom is that his death is the supposed explanation for Octavia’s actions towards Bellamy. As I said before, there is nothing that can justify Octavia abusing Bellamy, but this is a completely unsatisfying explanation.

Bellamy had nothing to do with Lincoln’s death. Yes, Bellamy had aligned himself with Pike, and Pike personally killed Lincoln, but Bellamy was chained up in a cave during the whole ordeal, and Octavia knew that.

Octavia being mad at Bellamy is completely justified. I wouldn't expect anything less. But anger and abuse are two different things. If Octavia hadn’t known that Bellamy wasn’t there, or if Bellamy had helped, or even if he had been there and done nothing, I would get it. I will never agree with it, but I would get it.

To me, this is clearly plot manipulation. Maybe they need Octavia to hurt Bellamy for some reason; maybe they need Bellamy to ‘pull his head out of his ass’ (which, hasn’t he done already?); maybe they just want to be more ‘shocking’. It really doesn’t matter what they mean by it, this storyline isn’t thought out well, has been poorly executed, and, let's be honest, the repercussions aren’t going to be handled well, if at all.
