research is all fun and dandy until your supervisor tells you to do a quick side project and compare your results with already available results and it turns out?? there is no already available results?? you'd think this is so basic surely someone would do this same analysis for other data? and yes they do but it's so basic they don't publish that step at all 😭

it was the first time i've taken part in a counterpart search to any GW signal like that, so it was pretty exciting for me!

It's not exactly my research focus, but i'm in a collaboration with people who do focus on that, and in case of rare events like that it's all hands on deck :D

i might have just solved an issue with my data i had for a longer while, and the method i used gives me rotatable 3d graphs by default, so you know what. its 2am & im tired, spinny spinny graphs yay

screaming crying why do the gamma ray bursts i could observe happen only when im asleep and unable to put them on the telescope queue. why do they need to happen too low on the horizon. statistically they should be happening at different times of the day but not fucking recently. i am suffering. these past few days had like four grbs and two x-ray flares that i could observere if some cosmic force up there that i dont believe in fucking liked me. the grbs are exactly what my phd is about and exactly what i should be observing, but noooooo i cant do anything about them because when the night falls where my uni telescope is located, the afterglows are already too dim to reasonably use up telescope time and ahhhh. they make me sad.

submitted my first ever telescope job! cross my fingers i didnt submit some bullshit and that all the settings make sense. dont have full constrains on how bright the object im looking for is, so praying its gonna be visible,, but i did it! what a fun and yet very stressful confidence boost.

i will be able to get a work laptop from my new institution. that is really cool, right?

WRONG. the only thing i can get that would make sense for me is a macbook, because it has the least managed operating system available in my institution. apparentely using their managed windows laptops actively prevents you from doing science, but the IT team hasnt figured out how to fully manage macbooks so we get slightly more ability to like. download stuff. i asked about being able to install linux and was met with silence. the department has given up on this battle. what the actual fuck??
