I was so happy to see the art from everyone who participated in Sharktober this year! They all looked amazing! 🦈✨
You all might consider creating things like stickers, prints, or little artbooks to sell at art events! 🎨✨
Unfortunately I got into a bit of a creative block and couldn't even finish the first theme. I had a lot of ideas and was thinking about making small animations, but I guess that overwhelmed me. I hope you'll forgive me for that. 😢
My reasons may be related to the fact that I recently had some big changes in my life in mid-August (a very good change!), which led me to hyper-focus on other interesting things and new distractions that temporarily took my interest in drawing away.
Here's the progress of the "Space Shark" art that I was excited about doing until all the energy ran out and it became a burden. I don't know exactly what happens, maybe I'm just getting old and tired. I'll try to finish this at some point.
"One small leap for a shark, one big step for the oceans!" 🚀🦈
Thanks a lot for all!!

Hopefully this hasn’t been asked quite yet
But what if orca eclipse was more like the canon dca as in-
He was an animatronic instead of a fish man?
*rubs my filthy mitts together*
The setting becomes a Seaworld-esque theme park (not good) called Freddy Fazbear's Boundless Sea.
Y/N is still a photographer. You have been personally invited by the corporation to take stunning candid photographs of everything within the park so they may use the photos in future marketing endeavors. The pay is more than convincing. You're thrilled to get an inside peak into a notable establishment and discover what you can capture with your camera.
You're allowed almost everywhere. You get to see shows with oceanic-themed animatronics that perform stunning water tricks and can morph from their landform to their sea form in the blink of an eye—legs are replaced with fins, and vice versa. The areas have their themes from the warm and relaxed Caribbean-themed shallow pools on the east end to the excited and tidal-wave high pools on the west side to a swampy and green lily pad-dotted south.
Funny enough, you remember a small blurb on a news website about Freddy Fazbear's Boundless Sea shutting down a section of the park. No big deal. It probably just needs to be renovated, but you keep passing maps that have one certain section on the north side of the park either covered up with a big sticker, crossed out with a black marker, or outright torn off. Strange. They did say you could go almost everywhere.
You find the north section, but it's all covered up in tape and looks to have an Arctic theme. There are polar bears and narwhals painted on the icy-faux walls. The entrance is locked up tight. You keep photographing everything else, everywhere, but the north area keeps gnawing at the back of your brain. Any efforts to find out more information are met with standard explanations of the work required in the area. It is closed until further notice.
Which you sit with for a few days before you discover a back area. The excuse of needing a better angle to take pictures of the animatronics performing their great stunt show gets you through, but while wandering through a cluttered and stacked high mess of merchandise, you find a poster.
The poster features an animatronic you have never seen before. One painted in black and white, and in his seaform, he possesses a great dorsal fin and flukes on his mechanical tail. The background is frosty and pale blue.
You tuck the poster into your camera bag and go about the rest of the day. It triggers a faint memory of an old commercial from a few years back you watched about the park, where there was, indeed, an orca-themed animatronic who had his very own show. In fact, after a quick internet search, you find he was really, really popular. He had shows twice daily—even more than the main cast. He was powerful and stunning, and he would splash people in the audience. Everyone ate it up.
His name was Eclipse.
But then, a few months back, he seemingly vanished. The area was closed down. Complaints are wondering when it will open back up. No one mentions the animatronic.
You don't get it. Why shut down a money-maker like that? Something's going on. Frankly, you want pictures of such a powerful performer. Wouldn't the corporation want you to get good shots of him?
Then you find a little article. A blurb about an incident at the beloved Freddy Fazbear's Boundless Sea. The animatronic was acting strange. Onlookers repeated that there was an agitation to the show, a tension that permitted the water and air. A staff member was pulled into the pool. Immediately, guests were ushered out while help swarmed the water. Then, the entire park was shut down for the day.
What happened?
You try to find more. Yielding nothing, you return to work tomorrow with a plan. You've been studying the layout, mostly to find better vantage points to snap a shot, but now, you realize there are maintenance tunnels below the entire park. You slip into one while a show is happening, keeping most staff members above ground. You wander for a bit before you find a marker pointing to "Eclipse's Arctic Sea."
A door finally opens into the closed section of the park. Most of it is sheltered under a pale, gray colored roof painted to appear like an Arctic sky. The dimness leads you towards an open section. A few aquariums are dimly lit but empty. The walls are painted with facts about polar bears and seals.
Strangely, you hear a faint scrapping. It pricks your ears as you follow the noise. Through a hallway that opens into a view alongside a great tank of water with the surrounding walls plastered with Eclipse's face all over them, you find another maintenance door and slip inside. The scrapping becomes a sawing, loud and sharp, through the metallic hallway, accompanied by violent splashes of water. The shrill noise becomes almost unbearable. Then you step into a narrow room filled with a single, shallow pool no longer than 10 feet.
The sawing ceases as something darts below the surface. The water sloshes until it calms into a deathly silence.
You ask softly who's there. You grip your camera tighter. Is the flash on? You can't remember. You step forward once, then twice. The opposite end of the pool bears great rakes through the flooring like claws dragging repeatedly over and over, shredding it into pieces. The edge glistens wetly by the toes of your shoes. The blue water looks empty until you peer directly over the ledge—
A sharp tooth smile greets you below the wavering surface before a hand flies out and snatches your ankle. The force of the grip rips you to the wet floor, knocking your head. Your vision swims. All senses within you only think to clutch your camera protectively as something rises from the pool. Dripping wet, the animatronic—one eye red, one yellow—grins down at you with utter detest.
"Hello, bird-eye. Come to get a look at the great killer whale?"
#black fish au#not sure what to tag this because it's not exactly orca eclipse but he is but he's not ahhhhhhh#naff writing

[ID: two illustrations, identical except for colors, flipped to mirror one another. They depict a sea serpent with spiky scales in a serpentine pose in the ocean at night. The first is a blue gradient, and the second is a rainbow gradient. End.]
Sea serpent! Theme for creature club this month is “marine monsters” so of course I had to include one of these guys… I’m thinking the blue one will be the standard, and rainbow serpent will be a fancy special little rare find in sticker packs :3c

Another thing I find interesting about Ren is that the horror movies he likes all contain stuff that he's personally really afraid of.
We all know that Ren is terrified of deep water. He always refuses to clean the aquatic zone in Jabberwock and he panicked when Haru nearly knocked him off the Darkwick jetty in Episode 3. He also can't swim. However, he's got shark stickers on his phone case and collects a lot of fan merch of NAW, an ocean-themed horror parody. It might not be his favorite movie, but it's definitely up there. Strange, for a guy with this particular fear.
Ren is also afraid of anything that might hurt or kill him. This might seem like a complete no-brainer, but if you compare him to the other ghouls, he's one of the few who can't handle being in danger. Honestly, I think the only other character is Kaito—but we've seen that he can capably fight when push comes to shove; he's just cowardly. Ren, on the other hand, exhibits the fear of someone who is genuinely out of his depth and has no tools to defend himself, almost like a civilian. To add even more context: he's attending Darkwick as a ghoul, which means not only is he getting up close and personal with potentially nightmarish creatures every other week, he's also expected to capture or fight them. Dying a horrible death is a much more real risk to him than it is for the average person.
So then why does he like watching horror movies so much? My theory is that it's a coping mechanism.
Ren specifically likes low-budget, bad horror movies. He says it's because they're funny, but I also think it's because he can easily tell the horror elements are fake. He nerds out about prop and set design, for instance; he likes knowing how the producers use CGI for the sharks, how the machinery and wires controlling the monsters are operated, how the prop master gets the gelatin brains to look so real… you get the point. In Episode 3, he was thrilled to be around all the skeletons in the underwater lair, but immediately backpedaled and became nauseous and panicked when he found out they were real. He's not into the gory, scary stuff; he's into learning how the gory, scary stuff is actually a collection of clever techniques that are ultimately harmless.
It's all a form of escapism. He has to live the real, scary thing every day, so the movies are a way for him to process and experience that in a controlled and safe environment. The distinct separation between fiction and reality is very important to him.
(This is a little unrelated and a bit of a stretch, but I also think it's another way for him to pretend to be normal. If you look at all the things he voluntarily does, it's like he's trying to mimic the life of a normal college student: go to class, work a job, go home, eat ramen, study. He gets upset when he has to do things that ruin that illusion for him, and in Episode 12, when Haru tries to reassure him that he's hard to kill because he's a ghoul, it makes Ren's mood worse instead of better. So, the horror movies could be how he pretends that all the terrifying anomalies are fake, and that those situations would never happen to him. Whether he's consciously aware he's doing that or not is a different story, but it explains an additional way they could bring him comfort.)
I'm under no illusions that most of this is headcanon, though. There's a good chance that the TKDB writers just thought it would be funny and ironic to give Ren juxtaposing characteristics, with no deeper meaning beyond that. But I'm delusional and love looking way too far into things, so here we are.

Fewer Broken Pieces
{Grim Reaper! Alastor x Marine Biologist! Reader}
Warnings: Angst. Major character death. Mentions of scars. Sharks. Bad writing lowkey (sorry). Based off a dream I had. Title is a David Bazan song!! Cross posted with on Ao3 here!

Alastor walks into a research and care facility designated for marine life, located just on the coast of Washington. He had been tasked with the reaping of a marine doctor. The job itself was simple. Get in, get the soul, get out. He watches tanks of various sea creatures. Jellyfish, sea otters, eels… His eye catches a figure calmly swimming amongst sharks. He stops and takes in the spectacle for a moment. After a few minutes, the person is removed from the take, much to the disappointment of the sharks. At the loss of the entertainment he takes in the surroundings. High ceilings that accommodate tanks that themselves lead straight out into the ocean. Presumably for easy capture and release.
He heard a laugh, rasped from tiredness,“Beautiful aren't they?” Alastors head swivels, his eyes land upon you. Hair damp, sticking to your ears and sun stricken cheeks. A wet suit adorned your body, equally doused in sea water. You smile at him. It's genuine. He realizes, rather late, that you were the figure he had just witnessed in the tank. “They are quite impressive.” Your smile widens. “They’re my life's work,” you stick out your hand introducing yourself. His breath catches. You were the doctor who he was here for… “ehem Alastor. I write for the newspaper.” Your eyebrows knit. “Strange. They didn’t tell me the press was coming in today…” he panics, thinking quickly of a way to explain this discrepancy.
“If I would have known I would have made myself more presentable. What exhibit are you covering specifically? I’ll be sure to pass you on to the right specialists.” His heart pounds at the notion that he might have just been caught. “I’m actually here to talk to you about your remarkable work with sharks.” Your face lights up in a way that can be described only as dorky. However the expression awakens something in his cold heart. “Oh! Well look at that! Not many come in to speak to me, so this was quite the fateful meeting!” He'd say.
You lead into the research facility itself, leading him to a cozy office. Shark stickers are plastered to the door. “Make yourself comfortable. I have snacks right over there. I’ll be back after I change.” Sitting on the chair across from what he assumes to be your own. The shark theming was not designated simply to the door, as many of the other offices he peeked into on the way had been. A paper mache shark hanging from the ceiling. Shark stuffed toys. A few shark jaws, countless teeth. His eyes land on a photograph of a child, in awe of an aquarium full of sharks.
The door opens, and you reappear. You have on a dark blue sweatshirt, and shorts. His eyes land on a large scar. It looked almost like an animal bite.“Please excuse how casual my outfit is, if I would have known I would have brought something more profes-” “I like it. It's. humanizing.” You smile weakly. “I really do appreciate you coming in to talk to me.” Genuine. His mind chimes in again. You sit across from him. “Anything I can get you before we start? Food? Drink?” Shaking his head. “No thank you.”
He finds out quickly how intertwined you and your work are. There's a shine in your eyes talking about sharks that's absent when you talk about anything else. You're passionate. “Off record, and don’t feel like you have to answer, but is that a shark bite on your thigh?” You flash your teeth at him, eyes crinkling. “I get that all the time. It's a gator bite. Wanna see it? More up close I mean..” he nods.
You plant yourself against the desk, moving in a way that allows the scar to catch in the yellowed lighting of your office. “See how it's more angular, and there's only one row of teeth? That's how you can tell the two apart. Shark bites are rounded and have multiple rows of teeth imprints.” You glance up at him. “I think it's cool. It's something not many people have.” He nods. “May I touch it?” he says without thinking, “Oh stars I’m so sorry. It was not my intent to be forward-” You giggle. The sound is light, and it eases his anxiety immediately. “Go ahead.” Tentatively, he reaches out and runs his fingers over the bumps in your tissue. There's a large bout of silence, then “if you are free tomorrow. I can show you the process, and sharks up close.” It's barely above a whisper. You’re beyond captivating. Alastor curses you for that. Curses you for not being a huge asshole. Assholes were easy to kill. “That would be amazing, thank you.” You beam, “see you tomorrow.”
One more day. He reasoned. He could grant you one more day. The old boss man didn’t have to know…
When he arrives at the facility, you are waiting for him at the gate.
You whisper your hellos, all but dragging him over to the tanks with quick strides. Handing him a pancho you climb up a large staircase, beckoning him to follow. Once at the top he stares at the large fins breaching the water. “It's almost feeding time,” you state, “but first, I wanna show you something.” He steps beside you, you hold your hand out.
“May I?’ He nods. You take his hand gently into your own. “You have to be still for this to work.” Your hands in tandem dunk under the water, your fingers slotted in between his own from the back. Fear holds all of his nerves captive, but your bright smile loosens them. He trusts you. Couldn't fathom why. He should be more scared you'll push him in. A shark approaches. You’re so close to him, he can feel your breath as you whisper, “There she is. Still.... remember?” The shark brushes against his palm. It's electric. You pull your conjoined hands out of the water. His hand tingles as you pull away, both on his palm from the shark and the back from your touch.
“See? Martha loves pets.” He looks at you quizzically. “How on earth do you tell them apart?” You gaze at him, preparing buckets of fish to throw in. “They have they’re differences. Though it's easiest to tell by the scar placements. All the sharks here have at least one.” Your face is solemn now. “How do they get the scars?” You throw the fish in, the sharks circle and pounce. “Some come from natral process. Some human interference. Fear and finning mostly. It's so… unfortunate. We keep them here until…. If they get better… if they make it. Martha has been here the longest. We have quite the bond.”
A sorrowful silence stretches. “I suppose you might be hungry..” You pipe up. He nods. You bring him to the cafeteria. “I don’t much like what they serve here, but if anything tickles your fancy, feel free to let them know you're with me.” You pull out salami, cheese, and crackers “however if you are also not feeling anything… I brought enough to share.” Kind. You were so, very kind. You had a bleeding heart. “I’ll take your word for it, dear.” You shine a lopsided smile and push your meal towards him.
You were genuine.
After the day is done, he trails you home. Wait till you're fast asleep. Angles his scythe for your head, a clean chop intended. The most merciful, quick way he knew how. He breathes, closes his eyes and…. He can’t do it. It's like his arms are locked in place. He’s hesitating, for what? A girl he's known for two days? But… You have so much to live for. So much you can still achieve. He couldn't do that to you. Not When you speak for the lonesome creatures. The creatures that society is afraid of, much like himself. He wonders, if you would have met him when he was still young, would he have turned out this way?
He can’t. He would accept his punishment, if it meant you could stay. Even for just a few months more…
Your eyes flutter open. “Alastor?” you rasp out, voice thick with sleep, “How’d you get in?" He panics, hand pressing the scythe into you on instinct. You choke out, eyes shining with betrayal. His heart squeezes uncomfortably. Hands rushing up to stop the bleeding. Mutters of no’s leave his lips, they mix in the air your gurgling. Alastor had never felt this way about taking life. It usually came so naturally to him. Your body goes limp, and he pulls your body into his arms feeling soulful. The first genuine soul he’d ever had to reap.
“Don't think I don't regret it Because I do and I don't. Think I'm better off alone.” -David Bazan
