OCBC Sportive 40km 2024
A 3.15 alarm clock is obscene in any world. The race kicks off at 5am but the organiser necessitates that riders are at the start by 4. Thankfully I have a Champions Wave ticket (earned at the Speedway) so I’m in front of the 8000 other riders but I still follow the rules and get up at stupid-o-clock.
The champions wave feels a bit light with many choosing not to get up so early. We have 10 Quantum racing, the overseas national teams and a few of the corporate teams - but very few of the usual Matadors or Mavs.
The race kicks off at full gas with Quantum pushing the pace. By the time we get to Swissotel, I think 20% are gone including most of my OCBC colleagues. With a lot of bridge climbs and tight uturns, there’s a lot of hard efforts required to hang on.
We head out and back on the West Coast Highway and the rolling speed is close to 50. I’m hanging on but absolutely not able to contribute in any way. Attacks keep pinging off the front and I need to close a gap out of the MCE tunnel which puts me close to the limit. When the race goes again on Sheares Bridge, I can’t recover and get gapped. 6 of us (Keiichi,IR, National riders) get together to minimise the losses but we end up losing close to 45s in the last 5km to the stadium sprint.
Great ride & really enjoyed it . At 54 mins for the distance, it was a hard 43km pace.
Ate some breakfast in the OCBC lounge and waited for the other OCBC boys to finish. Was sad to hear that Wai Mun had gone down & was in hospital with a fractured shoulder.
The rest of us snuck onto the 20km loop and enjoyed open roads for the first 10km. We then took pictures with the masses on Sheares Bridge. A truly great experience and weird to see the route in daylight. A lovely morning out!

Higher prices, low stocks a brief reprieve for regional palm oil stocks THE mini rally in palm oil prices and current low stockpiles have given regional palm oil companies some respite in light of the broader volatility-ridden agri commodities sector, but observers are cautious on the outlook for crude palm oil (CPO). It has been a good run for palm oil so far this year. Inclement weather in India -- one of the top importers of palm oil -- prompted higher imports of edible oils, while palm oil inventory in Malaysia for February dropped to just over 1.9 million tonnes from two million tonnes in January. The lower stockpiles have in part caused CPO prices to track higher on futures markets in the region. Bursa Malaysia-listed CPO futures are up about 21 per cent this year as at market close on Mar 21 to RM4,352 (S$1,235.87) per tonne. At current levels, CPO prices are at a one-year high. Despite the recent rally, average prices of CPO futures so far this year are still lower than last year's. This has translated into weaker earnings for most of the region's listed palm oil stocks. In Singapore, pure palm oil players such as Golden Agri-Resources, Mewah International and First Resources suffered the steepest declines in terms of percentage for their earnings for the second half of the fiscal year 2023, due to lower revenue on the back of weaker palm oil and palm kernel prices. Golden Agri's earnings fell to US$15.3 million from US$392.4 million; Mewah's profit declined 69.4 per cent to US$30.4 million, and First Resources booked a 62.5 per cent drop in earnings to US$73.9 million. Kencana Agri also fell into the red for FY2023. Agribusiness giant Wilmar International was more buffered. The group's earnings fell 21.3 per cent to US$973.9 million due to lower contributions from its feed and industrial products division. On the other hand, Bumitama Agri posted a 94.7 per cent rise in net profit for H2 to 1.26 trillion rupiah (S$108.4 million). Its revenue rose 15.8 per cent, due chiefly to a rise in the sales volume of its palm products. Meanwhile, Indofood Agri Resources' net profit inched up 1.5 per cent to 525.6 billion rupiah, despite a 13.7 per cent decline in revenue. It attributed the stronger bottom-line figures to "stable CPO prices and higher sales volume", as well as lower operating expenses and net changes in the fair value of its biological assets. Over in Malaysia, key players such as IOI, KL Kepong and FGV took hits to their Q4 earnings due to lower revenue. Sarawak Oil Palms' quarterly earnings more than doubled on the back of higher volume of palm products, while Genting Plantations booked a 13.1 per cent increase in earnings. In Indonesia, FY2023 full-year earnings and revenue of the trio of palm oil stocks -- London Sumatra, Dharma Satya Nusantara and Astra Agro Lestari -- declined, amid lower CPO prices. Maybank analyst Ong Chee Ting, for one, is bracing for a prolonged period of low CPO prices. He said in a note that the commodity's upside is capped by prices of competing oils. He expects CPO prices to stay around the RM4,000 per tonne mark till the end of March or early April, as production is presently in its low output cycle. Meanwhile, Ong expects demand will likely stay resilient during the Ramadan period. Maybank anticipates palm oil output to pick up from Q2 and hit its peak sometime in Q3. "This will pressure CPO price on the downside once supply is no longer tight. Further, CPO price upside is presently capped by its narrowed price discounts (relative to historical averages) against other major competing vegetable oils." Maybank has "buy" calls on Singapore's Bumitama Agri and Malaysia's Sarawak Oil Palms. OCBC analysts also have a "buy" call on Bumitama Agri, advising investors to look beyond the stock's "near-term softness". "(Bumitama's) superior productivity, high quality plantations and continued focus on maximising its current plantations places it in a good position to deliver on above industry average yields and to capitalise on supportive long-term industry fundamentals," the analysts said. BMI analysts said markets will continue to watch the development of biofuel policies. They said the extension of a nationwide B20 fuel mandate in Malaysia -- which dictates that diesel for transportation in the country must have a 20 per cent palm oil component -- and the increase of the B35 mandate to B40 in Indonesia have been reported to have "outcomes with a non-zero likelihood in the medium term".

How difficult is it to open a Hong Kong business account?
In fact, Open Bank Account is easy.
Banks in Hong Kong rigorously consent to the Know-Your-Client (KYC) cycle to channel each application they get precisely. It permits each bank to appropriately lay out their candidates' wellspring of assets and what sort of exchange they ought to anticipate from them.
We can recommend two different ways for a consistent financial balance opening in the locale :
1. Assuming you are a worldwide business account visionary, search for unfamiliar banks that can take special care of non-occupant ledger opening like Citibank, JP Morgan, and Barclays. These banks are endeavoring to give new open doors to worldwide ventures to fill locally.
2. Employ a specialist organization to help you in your application. It will save you time and exertion as they offer pre-evaluations to check in the event that your organization profile suits their cooperated bank's inclination, assist you with consistence handling, and recommend how you might improve the entire application for a surefire ledger.
Picking the last option permits you to have more bank choices like HSBC, DBS, OCBC Wing Hang, Bank of China, and that's just the beginning, and they make the whole application method simpler when contrasted and dealing with everything without anyone else. Their great working relationship and experience with required reports and methods will allow you a higher opportunity of setting up your Hong Kong ledger.

OCBC Corporate Speedway 2023
OCBC Cycle time again with their first full size event since pre-COVID.
As usual, I was asked to organise the OCBC Speedway squad & I was blessed with an abundance of riches this year - with 6 solid riders being available. I went in with some confidence that we could go well & potentially have a chance at the top step of the podium.
Tumblr media
Round 1 saw us up against our long term rivals SCDF and newcomers Dyson. A Dyson rider got dropped early so the race turned into an easy spin. We agreed with Civil Defence to save our energy and rode it easy. Dream start!
Tumblr media
Semi finals saw us up against SCDF A and B, Baden bank and AMD. Victor was able to get in a break with SCDF A and so came in 5 seconds ahead which gave Collin a good head start. I managed to catch him quite quickly with Michael Naert behind chasing for Baden. Naert eventually caught us but couldn’t really get a gap. SCDF B got gapped and we worked together to keep them off for last 3 laps - another relatively comfortable round!
Tumblr media
Finals drew us with SCDF A, Baden and AMD again. It stayed completely together during the first pair of riders with everyone in together. At the changeover, Collin & myself got a gap with one AMD & the SCDF boys. Naert was 5 seconds back with the other AMD and Baden. He eventually bridged over but his partner couldn’t make it. With 2 laps to go, Naert attacked as he clearly needed more time to balance his lagging partner. The AMD guy managed to hang on but one SCDF blew up & the other looked troubled. Collin and myself managed to keep the leaders within 10 metres as we could see we were going to win if we kept going. AMD won the sprint and I took 3rd. The team won for the first time ever which was amazing.
Tumblr media
AWQR had 2 teams in the final of the club championship. Sadly Poon had a mechanical at the changeover which scuppered his chances. However the team dominated the race with Dan & Bedard taking the 1-2 in the sprint - resulting in us retaining the overall crown for 2nd year in a row!
Tumblr media
It was a long day but a great laugh and very rewarding! We did a ton of media and huge amounts of complaining about the team jersey quality! Hopefully next year, we get something better!
Tumblr media
Sunday started with a 3:15 alarm call for Champions Wave. It was hammering down outside and the rain radar showed no respite till around 7am. I went back to bed along with half of the peleton. They eventually ran a shorter race at 6am in the rain but I was happy to miss it.
A great event from OCBC.
