Day 1 - ALMOST - #ockiss24
“Kɪssᴇs ғʀᴏᴍ ᴍᴇ? Tʜᴀᴛ’s ɴᴏᴛ ᴡʜᴀᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ.”
Characters: Lalik Kohanov and Kalina Viogor WC: 641 Prompts: @ockissweek
The watery eyes of knesinica Kalina couldn’t hide the fury in her irises. Or the swallowed screams that choked her. Her lips were red, so red, and her white teeth were stained with specks of her own blood.
“Is everything okay, Kalina?”
She turned her head to the opposite side, away from the person addressing her. “Of course it is”, she snapped.
Lalik remained where they were. “Strange way to be okay, I must say.”
Nosy court jester! “I am fine!” She barely held back a growl.
Lalik sighed, too loudly, too meaningfully, and Kalina’s cheeks turned dark red.
“It’s because of Elemir, isn’t it?”
The proud Viogor blood was too hot in her to allow her nerves to take hold of her. Not a single muscle moved under her skin, except her eyelids beating faster than usual.
“I must admit, he is quite the charmer. And a good-looking man, undeniably so, a proper catch. If a loud mass of temper and ego doesn’t bother you.” Lalik rubbed their gentle chin, thinking they were incredibly amusing. “Those broad shoulders probably cast a shadow over everyone’s common sense.”
You freak, is what she wanted to yell. You blue-eyed spell-casting worm!
But she didn’t. That wouldn’t do any damage. Lalik heard all that - and worse - as any magician has. They would laugh, and deflect her spiteful jabs with ease. Kalina knew her mentor well.
“Lalik…”, she said as calmly as possible, still not turning her head. “Do you envy him?”
“Envy?” There was a shrill tone when their tongue touched the roof of their mouth. “Sure, he is bigger, stronger, more handsome, ambitious, popular, and richer than me, but I don’t think that is as important as, for example, having longer and softer hair.”
Kalina turned to Lalik, grimacing. “Oh, Lalik. Poor, Lalik. You are so envious. So envious of him. Pretending to be his friend, while you secretly hate him.”
“Hate him? Kalina, what are you—”
Knesinica approached him, her delicate and petite figure overshadowed by her dark beauty and intense emerald green eyes. Lalik’s confusion extended toward uncomfortable fear.
“Everyone knows you’re in love with my sibling.”
Kalina grinned like a satisfied cat watching Lalik's cheeks turn expectantly as red as blood. Her hunch was right. Their hands gripped their staff tightly, attempting to squeeze the life out of it. “Oh, you poor thing”, she said.
Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the sheer intensity of emotions, or maybe it was guilt, but she noticed something. There was gentle beauty in her mentor’s features. They were tall and funny, they were smart, they were annoying, they were kind. Almost perfect. Almost.
But not for her. Even them were not for her. A painful stone of jealousy formed under her chest. She took Lalik by their scarf and pulled them down. The shocked magician yelped. “If I can’t kiss Elemir, at least I can kiss another beautiful person tonight.”
And she leaned forward, closing her eyes. But Lalik grabbed her shoulders. “Kalina! That’s… not what you want.”
“You can’t tell me what I want. I know what I want.”
And she pulled harder. Their cheek was not as soft as she expected it to be. Lalik’s eyes shone brightly and Kalina felt being pushed away not by Lalik’s hands but by their magic. “Stop it!” Lalik’s voice was a hair away from a panicked one.
“A cheek kiss? Lalik, you’re such a prude.” Their magic weakened around her and she could move again. She knew she pushed too far and that she would regret her actions and words in the morning. Probably. “Don’t you think both you and I deserve some kisses?”
Lalik awkwardly smiled. “Kisses from me? That’s not what you want.”
Kalina twirled her hair. “That’s something I almost want.”
Magician chuckled. “Well, that’s something you’ll almost get.”

Elemir knows the sign language. His mother is almost deaf, so Ljudevit and his children invented the way to talk to Zoja before she completely loses her hearing.
Of course, Elemir and Andesila expanded the language with swear words and secret signs. On one occasion they taught Tajena and Kalina the basics, too.
#i'm still not 100% sure should I use this#I mean#I'm constantly adding shit and constantly complicating this story#but this is cute#and my mother is almost deaf so#i kinda need to do this#kat has something to say#elemir#oc:elemir#oc:andesila#oc:kalina#oc:tajena#hotb#howloftheblood

Sister’s Envy
Just a little drabble about Kalina.
[Kalina’s POV]
The feeling of guilt was unbearable. How could she do such a thing? How could she so blatantly embarrass her sister in front of everyone? That look on Tajena’s face, that shadow of fear in her grey eyes and the scream of shock that followed; she was utterly appalled! Tajena didn’t expect anything like that - especially not from her little sister. Kalina knew she had to apologize or otherwise she won’t be able to fall asleep tonight. Or look her sister in the eyes for days.
Tajena’s room was down the hall from hers. With determination in her step, Kalina walked to the door and knocked two times and, after a short break, twice more – it was their secret code.
“Tajena?” Silence. “Tajena, please, I am sorry.”
Am I? It was so funny when she fell and made that face!
“Tajena, I am really sorry!”, she yelled, barely suppressing a giggle as she recalled the ridiculous grimace on her sister’s face.
“She’s not in her room.”
Kalina was startled by proximity of the stranger, but after noticing the familiar staff and a long, blue scarf, she relaxed.
“Oh, Lalik. Well, where –“ Her voice trailed off after she saw his expression. Magician had a lovable, almost childlike appearance with soft feminine features – but now he looked so cold and stern, as if some other person had taken over his body. Why does he seem so menacing?
“Do you know where she is?”, she asked gingerly.
“I saw her near northern wing, pass the Hall of Seven Woods. With knez. ”
“W-with father? Is that so?” Kalina wondered why did her chest feel empty all of a sudden.
“I saw what you did.”
Kalina immediately averted her eyes. Lalik has been her mentor from the moment she was old enough to learn; he knew her well. Too well, perhaps.
Instead of apologetic words full of guilt and shame, she flared up and glowered at him. “And? Is there something you would like to say to me, magician? Maybe my father would like to hear that as well! Should we go see him?”
Lalik immediately backed away, his eyes white from fear.
He is such a coward. Half-man, half-lapdog.
However, not completely devoid of backbone, his full lips deflated into a thin line of discontent. “I did nothing wrong. No, you will go alone. Go and find your father, look him straight in the eye, and tell him exactly what you did to your sister.”
A painful throb shook Kalina’s body as she no longer felt resentment and pride; only cold, cold fear now crawled under her skin. Knez Belad was a caring man and a doting father - but his anger was considered ferocious even towards his own children. And Kalina knew that all too well.
