Chapter Update 4/14/23

Obi-Wan and Cori'iana came to a stop in the grass clearing that seemed to be sectioned off for the new queen and former monarchs. The wind blew gently, causing Obi-Wan to catch the faint scent of lilacs coming from Cori'iana. He cleared his throat, startling Cori'iana who glanced at him curiously.

"Tickle in my throat," Obi-Wan responded with a soft smile, despite a glance from the former queen telling him that she didn't quite believe him.

"You'll stay here," Cori'iana told him. Her words weren't posed as a question - they were stated as an order. Having spent time with Obi-Wan before, she knew he didn't defy orders lightly.

Obi-Wan nodded his head, which made Cori'iana smile gently. She gently brushed her hand against his arm before she walked away from him, toward the other monarchs. When she was no more than ten steps away from him, she turned to look over her shoulder to make sure he was still there. Obi-Wan arched a brow at her - as if he were questioning why she didn't trust his word. But it wasn't that she didn't trust him. In her experience, people always seemed to leave, even if she had ordered otherwise.

Hiya! For fandom friday could I please recommend Safe and Sound by @arrthurpendragon

It's a lovely OC Obi-Wan fic that I am really enjoying and it takes place on Naboo so there is a lot of cool worldbuilding!

YESSSS Naboo is one of my favorite planets/settings, so I am biased RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE on this one. And a forbidden romance? With Obi-Wan Kenobi? Mutual pining over years and years? HI HELLO I AM DOWN FOR A SLOW BURN WITH TWO PEOPLE THAT ARE JUST IN LOVE WITH ONE ANOTHER AND IN DENIAL FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. YES I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MY FEELINGS HURT WITH SOME GOOD ANGST. PERFECT.

OH MY GOD LOOK AT THIS!!!

Long overdue gift art for @arrthurpendragon for her birthday exchange! I decided to do a faux-book cover piece of Cori'iana and Obi-Wan from her fanfiction, "Safe & Sound" based on this vintage photograph! It took me a while to finally get this done since I did a lot of experimenting in CSP but I'm glad that it came out as well as it did and I hope that @arrthurpendragon loves it too! Happy extremely Belated Birthday!

Cori'iana has a grey cat named Meellen - his inspiration is my kitty Merlin!

Cori'iana's parents were assassinated in the first month of her reign.

Sanandrassa women have a tradition of having i'i in their name. (Definitely not saying you should go look at my cast list because of this lol)

She is force sensitive.

She does not trust Palpatine - not because she suspects he's Sith, but because her grandmother trusts him.

During the first year of her reign, Cori'iana was on the run with Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon because an assassin was after her.

Cori'iana does not trust her grandmother, but because they're family she puts up with her.

It was her grandmother's idea that Cori'iana run for queen in the first place - and it was after she lost her parents she realized how manipulative her grandmother was.

Cori'iana didn't have much of a relationship with her grandmother until she paid for Cori'iana to go to school.

Once Cori'iana trusts someone, her mischievous side comes out.

Safe and Sound ⌨

Again, spoilers ahead because the chapter before hasn't been posted.

“Growing up, I was raised with the knowledge of the fraught relationship with Baethea,” Cori’iana began. “I sympathized with your people.  But as you are aware, the Sanandrassas have never looked upon your people kindly, especially my grandmother.”

Some of the harshest and strictest rules imposed upon Baethea had come about during her grandmother’s reign.  Dordirri’ih Sanandrassa was no friend of Baethea and during her reign, Naboo had whole-heartedly supported her stance.  And despite the rumblings of Baethea’s freedom coming during Cori’iana’s reign, firm supporters of her grandmother had also spread rumours to the contrary.

Cori’iana sighed. “Her reign was cruel to your people.  It’s rather difficult to prove you aren’t somebody when you carry their name.  No matter what I did or didn’t do, that name would always precede me to your people.”

But Cori’iana could tell immediately from Lady Catalea’s expression that her simplest truth, without bearing her soul, was not enough for the Baethean. “Then why continue to use your name?” Catalea asked. “In my eyes, that shows that you condoned what they did during their reign and your own.”

Part of Cori’iana wanted to bare her soul to Lady Catlea and force her to understand. She wanted to tell her that she had never wanted to be queen.  It was her grandmother who had drummed up the support for her rule and that things had gone much too far for Cori’iana to stop anything.  She wanted to scream that she didn’t change her name because Cori’iana wanted a chance to slip back into quiet anonymity after her royal sentence was complete.

But there were important politics at play here.  So, she had to choose her words very carefully.  She had to be careful to not reveal too much for the sake of both Naboo and Baethea.

“You aren’t the only one to face family pressure when it comes to ruling, Catalea,” Cori’iana answered with an arched eyebrow.  That was about as short a summary Cori’iana could give the Baethean without divulging details.

The next chapter of Safe & Sound is almost complete. One scene just needs to be finished and I need a friend for that because it involves their character explaining their other characters. lol.

But if I get any of those sentence asks for that fic, I'll just start the next chapter with them.

Meellen rubbed against Cori’iana’s leg, which drew her attention back to the matter at hand - her discussion with Ziv.  “Let’s save Lady Catalea for last,” Cori’iana stated as she bent down and gave Meellen’s back a good scratch. “How about we discuss those members of the delegation whose hatred of me isn’t quite so . . . passionate.” She offered Ziv a small, knowing smile.

After a brief meeting with Queen Amidala, Cori’iana then had to meet with Senator Ziv Fraillin on Lady Catalea Adonis’s upcoming visit. There was much to be done and hardly enough time to do it. Such was life on the political stage.  There were times Cori’iana regretted her decision to remain in the limelight and forego a quiet and peaceful existence. But with no one to spend that existence with, her time and talents were better spent serving Naboo.

Gonna be real I'm hyped for a few of your fics. Mostly Safe and Sound, Prayer, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, oh! and your pokemon fic!

D'awwww!!! You're always so supportive!!! (Even when I accidentally unfollow you lol) Safe & Sound has 2 chapters almost ready - I just need a little help with the Baethean characters. I have not started the next chapter of The Prayer yet. From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea has 2 chapters almost ready to go and my Pokemon fic has one whole sentence to the next chapter! lol.

“I’ll confess my reign wasn’t perfect as far as relations outside of Naboo, especially with Baethea.”  She knew that there were those who considered her an isolationist, but that hadn’t been her intent.  But there were too many things beyond her control. “It might not have been right, but my life and the lives of my people took priority, especially given the assassination attempts weeks into my reign.”

Cori’iana attempted to stifle her voice of any emotion despite the images of her parents dead on the ground plaguing her thoughts. “I was a scared child with hardly anyone within my inner circle to turn to.  When I finally was able to pick up the pieces and try to navigate relations, I was met with roadblocks.”

She took a deep breath, pausing for effect for the piece of information she was about to reveal next. Cori’iana then lowered her voice. “Politically I was advised and pressured that Naboo should hold a tighter reign on Baethea.”

The look on Lady Catalea’s face began to contort in anger.  But Cori’iana had anticipated this.  Her statement hadn’t only been for shock value, but also because it was true.  There had been constant arguments with her grandmother concerning Baethea. On several occasions Cori’iana had to intercept communications her grandmother had attempted to forge in her name.

“Advice that you should have ignored,” Lady Catalea responded curtly, despite the fire that raged in her eyes. “But I gather that was not an option.”

“I don’t see chains and shackles anywhere on you,” Cori’iana stated, gesturing to Catalea’s free extremities. “While I might not have been the one to free you, I am the one who wrote the treaty so that Queen Amidala might be able to free you.  Hate me all you like, it’s of no matter to me as I’m no longer queen, nor have I any intention of being so again.”

Cori’iana stopped to catch a breath. “Were our roles reversed, I’d like to think that I would be a bit more understanding because I’d know that running a country is no easy feat and that sometimes there is nothing more one can do than play the game. Even if said game is stacked against them.”
