OC fact: My daggerfall agent (Suuriil Loraethan) actually ends up both teaching my HOK (Voka Oakenthorn) destruction magic in vokas youth, and replaces the arch-mage during the oblivion crisis :) Which, by the rest of my timeline, Suuriil is also familiar with martin as well. I just love linking my characters together in fun ways.
I think it's so fun to link OCs and events together. Nice way to create some historical continuity within a story.
I'm doing kind of the same with my Skyrim timeline. I realized Coradri could still be alive, if quite old... so she and her gigantic family move to Solitude at the beginning of the civil war, reasoning that war makes orphans and Coradri, like Yena before her, has made it her mission to take them in.

voka was DEFINITELY influenced by his favorite destruction mage teacher as a young apprentice and not in great ways sometimes. he was already a bit rebellious before just to stand out because he was the middle child in a family of thirteen siblings, but suuriil did not make any attempts to make him quit being like that and in fact encouraged his behavior. also definitely a show off which suuriil also actively encouraged more. idk if it's connected but suuriil feels "connected most" (im not sure what i would say there) with dibella/he prays to her often while voka is a sanguine worshipper and like. eventually just becomes sanguine entirely.
voka really looked/looks up to suuriil specifically because his parents were not magic users primarily, and they had no experience. and a lot of the older children were already gone on off on their own, or were also not primarily fussed with magic. voka tried out a couple different types of magic on his own before settling on destruction. considering they lived in skingrad maybe it should've been an obvious first choice, but after persuading from his older sisters (unnamed) he was originally going to try to put more effort into restoration. hes a good alchemist but restoration is not his strongest skill. neither was conjuration. conjuration spells are particularly difficult for him to use even half decently. his three best ended up being destruction, illusion and alteration. destruction was by far the easiest for him to get a handle of.
i mean handle as in I HC that destruction specifically requires a calm mind to master fully. someone who is easily overcome by emotions might have a volatile handle on their magic. which is exactly his problem. in times of intense anger he has been known to set things alight. fire spells are his preferred choice, but he is also a fan of shock spells. as a bosmer who is not a fan of the cold, he really doesn't like using frost spells at all.

suuriil loraethan is a 35-year old altmer mage and the agent sent by the empire to quell the spirit of king lysandus. he is a follower of dibella, but some might mistake him as a worshipper of the daedric prince sanguine due to his boisterous and party-loving nature. suuriil was born in cloudrest in 3E 370, but grew up as an only child with his mother and father in skingrad, in cyrodiil. despite being from a well-to-do family line, suuriil couldn't stand the haughty nature of other socialites and spend most of his childhood outdoors in the west weald.
living in skingrad gave suuriil the perfect opportunity to study and perfect his destruction magic at the mages guild. while destruction was his main area of study, he is also skilled in the art of restoration. as a teenager, suuriil was often the one sent on runs for alchemy ingredients for the guild, however he had a hard time remembering ingredient effects and had a fair amount of trouble with anything alchemy-related. when he wasn't studying at the mages guild, he was once again out in the west weald practicing how to wield daggers and the like.
by the time suuriil reached mid-adulthood, he had recieved every recommendation in cyrodiil and moved to the imperial city to join the arcane university. however suuriil found himself feeling stuck, and soon travelled back to skingrad to act as a mentor to novice mages learning destruction. this mentorship was put on hold during the events of daggerfall, but he returned to it very soon afterwards.
by the events of oblivion, suuriil is still living in skingrad and teaching destruction.
