Bellara Week Day 4: Friendship

I wanted to celebrate a couple of her most important friendships for me- Research Buddies Bel and Emmrich and my favorite early game party of Mage Girlypop Trio (my Rook is a Mourn Watch mage).

I really love how enthusiastic she is in interpersonal relationships. The fact that she manages to be supportive and kind and chipper in the face of her turmoil and grief is so inspiring ;A; <3

Collection of baby Sabriel Ingellvar for @veilguard-appreciation-week day 1! The prompts were The Grand Necropolis and Curiosity, so I felt like it was a good opportunity to showcase my necromancer as the curious little Wisp Friend that she was!

She used to read stories aloud to the wisps, had a little parade of them that would march around with her, and often stuck her nose into places in the Necropolis she wasn't supposed to- and met her fair share of undead doing so.

The last one is a little bit of a joke- if she was friends with so many wisps, there was a chance she met our Curiosity himself, Manfred, before he picked out his skull...

Rook’s Business Card

I saw these going around and I wanted to try making one for myself! I really wanted to make it fancy~

I also made Sabi a pre-game and during-the-game version haha

She constantly has to explain that “ritual destruction” means “destroying a ritual” not “ritualized destruction.” Don’t argue with her, she has a master’s.

If we all band together with how much we love Dragon Age we can keep our spirits up!

Here’s my big map of my main canon world state!!

Oani Mahariel is a rogue Dalish warden, Zevran romance. Quiet and a bit cowardly but tries her best to protect Ferelden from the Blight.

Karina Hawke is an Assassin rogue blue Hawke, Fenris romance. Ultimate Big Sister, just wants to take care of her friends and play Wicked Grace.

Nirielle Lavellan is a Knight Enchanter Inquisitor, no romance. She’s young and winds up collecting more of a bunch of found family members than anything else. Bright and curious, she uses her position as Inquisitor to learn everything she can about the world.

And then Sabriel Ingellvar is a mage Rook, Lucanis romance. She’s kind and compassionate, places her friends’ needs before hers and would REALLY like Solas to stop being so condescending thank you very much!

In light of the current Dragon Age news, can everyone show me their Warden, Inquisitor, Hawke and/or Rook to 1. lift my spirits and 2. so I can draw more ocs? I might not get to everyone but I will give it a good try!

Reflection Ruesday x2

So the first version is woundedsoul12's adjusted one, to show off your work or someone else's that you think should get more attention. I'm finally getting time to dig into people's fics and I wanna share @hedwigoprah's The Arrangement of a Soul because Veryl is so very good and I think everyone should get to know her ;A;

and then the original rules: Go through your writing, art, gifs, etc. that you started but never finished and find something you love. Brush it up a bit if you want and share it. Tag me and use the tag Reflection Ruesday (it'll grow on you, I promise) and I'll comment and reblog. Then tag some other folks you think might enjoy it.

I'm bringing back my map of my canon world state Dragon Age Heroes because I worked really hard on this!! My original idea was a sort of pin set of them, though obviously the art is too complicated for an enamel pin haha This is also, fun fact, one of my first dedicated pieces of Sabi!

Shameless Self-Promotion Saturday!!

I actually made it in time!! I haven't had anything completed for one of these before so it's exciting (and a little scary haha)

First I finished my second round of Rook Portraits, which I'm still very happy about! Thinking about doing a third round if anyone still wants one, just reach out and let me know!

Aaand the art I just finished:

Lucanis with a black flat-coated retriever (which is the breed of dog I imagine for Sabi's church grim symbolism) and Sabriel with a crow (for obvious reasons :) )

I don't do a whole lot of ship art but I'm starting to dip my toe into it more........

Hoping to have my fic finished for next week! It just keeps getting longer!

Sabi Lore Post!!! But this one is just one question because it got a little long.

I'm working off of hyperions-light's Rook Intro Hour questions for the most part!

This post is: If your Rook had not been recruited by Varric after they were exiled from their faction, what would they have done? How would they have reacted to the events of the game if they weren't in a position to influence them? Would they have tried to go back to their faction? Would they have joined another? Would they have attempted to combat the gods alone?

Sabriel, being a trained spirit healer, would still take her skills outside of Nevarra even if she wasn't recruited by Varric. She readily accepted her "punishment"/sabbatical after the War of the Banners, and took it mostly as an opportunity to see the world outside of the Necropolis. She'd spent her whole life either in its walls or in Nevarra City, and she wanted to explore the places she had read about so many times.

The first place she would go is Rivain, to see the ocean and see if she could learn about spirits from the seers. She would want to visit Antiva, but with the Antaam invasion she would likely just try to pass through unscathed.

I like to think that she'd ultimately get wrapped up with the Shadow Dragons in Minrathous. She's a person begging for a calling- she likes to help, she has the skills to do so, and she feels strongly for her fellow elves, so the Shadows would be an easy sell for her. In my mind she has a little clinic in Dock Town to treat injuries and minor illnesses (very similar to Anders honestly, keeping up that spirit healer tradition!). She can help consult with the Shadows on demon and spirit problems, giving them a new perspective with her spirit caller skills and Mourn Watch background. She sometimes clashes with Tevinter mages due to the cultural differences (leaving the Necropolis really shows her how deeply Nevarran she is) but she knows they're doing their best with what they've got, knowledge-wise.

She'd be a good contact for the Veilguard, and could serve as ears and eyes on the ground for Neve once Neve is at the Lighthouse and not in Dock Town every day. Even if Minrathous falls to the dragon, she would be hardy enough to survive, though the Venatori taking over Minrathous would spur her to leave, likely to return to Nevarra for safety. She would be a strong voice for supporting the Veilguard within the Mourn Watch. She would likely not face the gods until the very end, in the battle against Elgar'nan in Minrathous, focused on taking care of the injured and Blighted.

I just really like the idea of Sabriel getting to explore Thedas a little, and overlapping with the Veilguard without necessarily being a part of it. She's your friendly neighborhood healer- a little medical assistance, a little gossip, weird connections from being in the Shadows but also the Mourn Watch. She listens to spirits in her spare time and goes and stares at the water. She would still love Neve. She's practiced in making a home for herself- even though she grew up in Nevarra, her lack of familial history and roots means she built her Home herself, so she's fully capable of doing it again.

WIP Wednesday

Progress is slow but has happened on The Pie Experiment! I'm so amazed with you guys who can write like 1000 words a day, man, if I get like 200 it's a good day haha. This piece is pretty dialogue-heavy, so here's a snippet:

"Oh great, you guys are just in time!" Rook greeted cheerfully, hurrying over to the table with a large pan of fish and vegetables. "Dinner's pretty much ready. Can someone go get Neve?" "On it." Lucanis nodded and turned towards the door. "No need, I'm already here." Neve strolled in with her usual air of grace, a couple of wisps in tow. "These two wouldn't stop hassling me until I got up." Sabriel grinned. "I've trained them well." "Ah, so this is your fault. I thought maybe 'Fred had something to do with it." Neve's voice was light, a bit more jovial than she had been recently. Sabriel felt a small surge of relief at the realization. "We've got to make sure everyone eats on time! Your brain needs the energy!" She insisted, gesturing at the group to sit down. "Everybody say thank you to Lucanis and Bellara for figuring dinner out based on my pie scraps!"

A Word with Friends

Ever since Emmrich moved into the Lighthouse, Sabriel found herself drifting towards his study fairly regularly. His collection of books, lovely fireplace, beautiful view and choice of furniture made the space particularly appealing. It was like having a little slice of home right next door.

But ever since Hezenkoss took up residence in the room, she found herself��reluctant to linger.

She knew the woman was bored. A mind as sharpened and clever as Johanna Hezenkoss was bound to rankle at being stuck in one place with little to entertain.

That didn't mean Sabriel wanted to talk to her though.

"You there. Watcher whelp."

Sabriel sighed, turning away from the bookshelf. "Yes ma'am?"

Hezenkoss scoffed. "Again with those blasted manners. Do you enjoy needling me with your false courtesy?"

"Would you stop talking to me if I said yes?"

This made the half-lich pause. "That almost had some bite to it."

"My apologies. It has been a long day." Sabriel found herself bowing slightly to the skull.

Despite Hezenkoss's many many crimes, Sabriel had been raised with the expectation of respect for one's elders, and especially those with more expertise than you. The woman's morals may have been…questionable at best, but her knowledge and skill were still worthy of respect, in Sabriel's eyes.

Nevertheless, she could practically hear the eyeroll in Hezenkoss's voice when she responded, "Apologies! For what! Growing a spine?" The skull flashed green. "Have you ever considered that pushing boundaries is the only way to make progress?"

"From my understanding, your pushing of boundaries caused you to halt progress, actually."

"A temporary setback!" Hezenkoss verbally handwaved the argument away. "If Volkarin would get over himself for 5 minutes and loosen the wards, I could prove that my craft is back to progressing! And at a far greater pace than any of those meager Watchers that trained you."

Sabriel sighed. "If this is a roundabout way to get me to convince Emmrich to allow you to try casting, I'm afraid I will have to disappoint you, ma'am."

"Well. No matter." Hezenkoss let the issue go with suspicious ease. "We can begin with a less lofty goal: letting go of that stiff spine and etiquette."

Sabriel blinked. "I'm…sorry?"

"You'll get nowhere if you do not act appropriately in command! You must show that you are superior to anyone who dares question your decisions! You are in charge of this gang of buffoons, are you not?"

"They are all experts, I would hardly call them buffoon-"

"Your evaluation is irrelevant. Now. To begin, you should behave according to your true feelings. You may begin with me, as I am already aware of your dislike and it does not matter."

Sabriel gritted her teeth. She knew Hezenkoss would keep doggedly pursuing this line of thinking if she didn't at least put up a token effort of playing along. "With all due respect, Johanna, I do not wish to undergo an extended period of…rudeness training with you. No matter how bored you may be."

Honestly, she just wanted to peruse some books in her very rare off time. Why was she getting harassed by a spirit in a skull instead?

Hezenkoss was silent for a moment before she barked out a single mocking laugh. "That's all? The most egregious social offense you can think of is being too familiar with me? Clearly we have much farther to go than I realized."

Sabriel pinched the bridge of her nose, briefly turning back to the shelf and grabbing a volume seemingly at random. "Have a good day, ma'am."

Whatever the skull's reply was, she didn't pay attention as she beat a hasty retreat from the study. She'd have to apologize to Emmrich later for leaving his "roommate" in a foul mood.

Thursday (Friday) Bangers

I decided to dabble a little into Sabriel's backstory- to establish that she's been at the "solving people's personal problems" game for a lot longer than she's been helping out the Veilguard.

"Saaaabi-!"

Sabriel glanced up from her thesis draft, looking alarmed. "Miriam, we're in the library!" She hissed. "I need this table, don't get me kicked out!"

Miriam's face crumpled as her eyes started to well up with tears. Sabriel sighed and gestured for her friend to take the seat next to her.

Honestly. She told everyone she was busy, but she couldn't just leave a crying girl to suffer, right?

"Now, what's wrong?" Sabriel asked in a gentle tone, turning to face her friend.

"It's…" Miriam sniffled, "It's Alfonse…He- He's been ignoring me for days now!"

Sabriel frowned. That seemed unusual. Alfonse was usually fairly happy-go-lucky and rarely got angry at anyone, let alone his…lover? Best friend? Partner in crime? She honestly didn't know exactly what their relationship was, but he and Miriam were close.

"Did something happen? I know there was that little…unapproved excursion into the tombs last we-"

"Shh!!" Miriam hit Sabriel's arm frantically. "Not so loud! No one's supposed to know about that!"

Sabriel rolled her eyes. Everyone knew about the group of apprentices that wanted to see if they could find where the Necropolis had hidden the chambers of the lich lords- to attempt it was basically a rite of passage in the Watch at this point.

"Didn't they get caught?"

Miriam shook her head furiously. "Only a couple of them did, including Al-" She gasped suddenly, "What if he's mad at me because I abandoned him when they got caught…?!" She was attempting to whisper but the effort combined with the emotion in her voice was clearly straining her throat.

Sabriel hummed thoughtfully. "If anything I'd assume he's probably trying to act like you guys aren't very close because he's trying to keep your participation from coming to light. He's much more of a protective type, you know?"

Miriam's eyes shone with tears again. "You really think so…?"

Sabriel patted her arm consolingly. "Alfonse has always been an honest sort, Miriam. Remember that big fight he got in at dinner that one night because Bernhardt stole his paper topic?"

"Oh that was so bad…they had to write three extra papers because of it…"

"Exactly." Sabriel nodded, "And Bernhardt is his best friend and now they get along famously again. So I'm sure you two will be fine."

Miriam sniffled once more and wiped the tears from her eyes. "You really know a lot about everyone, huh Sabi?"

Sabriel pulled a handkerchief from her bag and offered it to the other girl with a smile. "Only what people tell me. They just…like to tell me a lot, I guess!"

Miriam laughed a little, dabbing her eyes with the handkerchief. "I'll get this cleaned for you. A-and let you get back to your thesis. Thanks Sabi, you're the best."

Sabriel waved goodbye to her friend then turned back to her thesis with a sigh. Maybe she should make it about Necropolis gossip instead…

Reflection Rtuesday

The rules are to go through old WIPs of writing, art, gifs, etc. that you started but never finished and find something you might want to brush up to share (I think haha).

All of my writing is either a project I want to finish or something that's 10+ years old that should not see the light of day so we're leaning art instead!

I started working on a lineup of all my world state characters so I could do a big post of them but I stalled out pretty fast.......so here's some flat colored elf girls for you~

I only made it through 1.5 world states woops!! The second world state didn't have a Rook yet, and my third world state just got missed because I moved onto other projects. But one day maybe I'll be back to this....
