I once again had the chance to commission the amazing @ziorre​ and this time got a piece of the couple who will always have my heart, @ma-sulevin​ and my’s babies: Ruthie Campbell and Jesse Cunningham. This particular scene takes place at the end of their canon fic & we’ll just be (you and me) when Ruthie finds Jesse out back at her parents’ graves. It’s the moment she realizes that he loves her and just how much.

@ziorre​ always does an incredible job with her work, and this is no exception! In fact, when I received the email with the finished piece, I nearly dropped my phone when I saw it! From the lighting, to the detail in the background, to the way Jesse’s holding her, and their expressions... I couldn’t be happier with the piece. It’s perfect and so much more than I ever could have imagined. Please commission her if you get the chance! She’s wonderful to work with and as you can see, amazingly talented at what she does!

Benjamin Fox

From the Hebrew name בִּנְיָמִין (Binyamin) meaning "son of the south" or "son of the right hand", from the roots בֵּן (ben) meaning "son" and יָמִין (yamin) meaning "right hand, south".

Benjamin was also the 30th most popular name for boys born in 1990, which I imagine is where I found the name. This doesn’t always happen, but Benji started with a face claim (specifically, this “bisexual disaster” photoshoot of Casey Deidrick), so I went searching for a name that fit. I saw the name Benjamin and my heart said “that boy is Benji.”

Ruthie Campbell 

Her real name is actually Mary Ruth, so:

Usual English form of Maria, the Latin form of the New Testament Greek names Μαριάμ (Mariam) and Μαρία (Maria) — the spellings are interchangeable — which were from Hebrew מִרְיָם (Miryam), a name borne by the sister of Moses in the Old Testament. The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".

From a Hebrew name that was derived from the Hebrew word רְעוּת (re'ut) meaning "friend".

I technically named her after my grandmother who passed in 2016. Let’s not look too deeply into it; I didn’t realize Ruthie was going to bully her way into so many universes.

Emma Nguyen

Originally a short form of Germanic names that began with the element ermen meaning "whole" or "universal". 

I picked out Emma’s face claim on purpose before I chose her name, and I ended up with Maggie Q. Since Maggie Q is half white and half Vietnamese, that’s what I made Emma. Nguyen is the most popular Vietnamese surname (something like 40% of Vietnamese people have the surname Nguyen), and Emma was the 81st most popular baby name in 1993. “Emma Grace” is just a really strong Church Girl name, and that’s how she was raised.

Tyler Moore

From an English surname meaning "tiler of roofs", derived from Old English tigele "tile".

Are you going to fire me if I tell you Tyler was the 48th most popular baby name for the year he was born (1980)? If it helps, I decided to go with it because Tyler was the name of the first boy I kissed.

Mattie Covington

From the Germanic name Mahthildis meaning "strength in battle", from the elements maht "might, strength" and hild "battle"

Matilda June Covington....... I accidentally named her after the daughter of a girl I went to college with, but I swear it was 100% an accident. I think I wanted to name her Mattie, then thought it would be cute if it was short for Matilda, then I needed a cute name that was a little redneck to go with it. Thus, Matilda June was born. (It wasn’t until a couple of weeks later that I saw a post on Facebook and realized what I had done).

Jude Wright

I had to chase this one down, because “Jude” is from “Judas” which is the Greek form of “Judah,” and Judah means:

From the Hebrew name יְהוּדָה (Yehudah), probably derived from יָדָה (yadah) meaning "praise."

I really don’t remember where I came up with the name Jude. I think I just like it.

Chelsea Cooper

From the name of a district in London, originally derived from Old English and meaning "landing place for chalk or limestone".

Chelsea was a popular girl’s name in the 90s, but I also just always really liked it? I think it’s pretty.

Hazel Shepard 

From the English word hazel for the tree or the light brown colour, derived ultimately from Old English hæsel. 

I googled “names like Piper” and Hazel was on the Nameberry list. That’s really as deep as it gets, but I think it really suits her.

Avery Ryder

Behind The Name says it’s a diminutive of Alfred, and Alfred means:

Means "elf counsel", derived from the Old English name Ælfræd, composed of the elements ælf "elf" and ræd "counsel".

Did I know it meant that when I picked it out for her? Yes. Is it also my top baby name for a real life child? Also yes.

#30 for Jesse and Ruthie

30. a kiss on the back of the hand.

Jesse always reaches over to touch Ruthie while he's driving, and she loves it. It's nice, that he's always thinking about her. It's like he wants to remind her that he's with her, or remind himself that she's really there.

Sometimes he puts his hand on her thigh, especially if she's wearing shorts or a skirt or something so he can actually touch her skin. He'll do that if she's using her phone, too, even though she tries not to when they're together.

More often, he just holds her hand, twining their fingers together and stroking his thumb across her knuckles. That's what she likes the most, because she likes the way his hand feels in hers, how much bigger and more calloused it is than hers.

He's in a good mood today, singing softly along with the radio as he drives. She smiles as she looks out the window, letting his voice wash over her as they slow to a stop at a red light.

She looks over when she feels her hand move, and her breath catches in her throat as he presses his lips to the back of her hand.

The car behind them honks, and Ruthie laughs when Jesse jumps and lowers their hands, still clasped together, back to her lap as he starts to drive again.

He's perfect.

“They got bored,” Benji finishes, giving Ruthie a little smile. She holds his gaze until he wants to lean back and kiss the expression off her face and he has to face forward again.
