To walk the stacks of Miskatonic’s special collections was to walk through a forest of ghosts. To do it day in and day out, without falling prey to their whispers was a skill partly innate and partly learned through years of service and more than one unfortunate slip-up.

A soft noise of curiosity interrupted him, and he turned in time to catch the man’s hand before it pulled a book free. 

“Ah, best not, Mister Carter,” he said gently.

“Sorry!” Roland tucked his hands into his pockets with a warm, if sheepish, huff of laughter. “Curiosity and cats, you know.”

🖥️: Now I’m going to be the cliched one, and say that my favourite AI would have to be Cortana. I mean... she’s Cortana, how could she not be my fave? She’s a fascinating character, and one I essentially grew up with ( ....relatively speaking :P ).

⚙️: Easy, Spartans. ODSTs are second, but come on. Spartans, man. They fascinate me immensely. Their vibe 100% fucks. I have so many Spartan OCs.

🎉: I think..... hmmm. Well, you know what character I’m answering about, because come on, it’s me. Also, it’s two headcanons tied for number one spot because why the fuck not.

The first headcanon is that Carter is most definitely Not White ( look, there’s no definitive answer as to his ethnicity in canon, so it’s a headcanon backed up by research and evidence, one of those things that might be canon but because it hasn’t been confirmed either way, it’s something that I call my own ); that he’s got some form of mixed heritage going on, and that Xhosa / Bantu African ( if that’s the wrong way to term that, please feel free to correct me ) is a big part of it.

The second headcanon is that one Colonel Marmon Crowther ( yes, That Guy from Halo: Silent Storm ) is Carter’s biological father. Further into headcanon territory would be that Marmon survives the events of the novel and eventually gets to meet his grown up son, because I like fun things like that.

absolutely incredible boss fight from our CoC game today featured a bunch of deep ones and a shoggoth that immediately drove us all into fits of madness that resulted in Charles (our aviator/mechanic) & Roland (my archeologist/linguist) getting into a fight in the background and getting knocked out by one of our NPCs, resulting in the entire fight being carried by Daisy (our charming spy) and Eshe (Roland's mysterious bodyguard) and the rest of the NPC backup

and then after the fight, Roland exploded a guy with a cool 34 damage from a critical success with a shotgun (he was effectively an evil wizard and tried to cast a spell on eshe, so it's fine and he's definitely not gonna think about that later, no sir)

first off, my good good pulp cthulhu boy Roland! (I did introduce him when the game started, but that was a Whole Year Ago and he's been on my mind because I've been binging Malevolent, so!)

he's the (currently in game) 26 y/o fantasy son of Howard Carter, the Egyptologist who isn't much good at fighting, but IS quite good at languages (he started the game with 5 and picked up a bit of a 6th just sitting in a cafe for a day) and sticking his nose into trouble (a dust monster partially blinded him last sesh, but it's ok! he got better AND was smart enough to not try to shoot a rifle while trying to blink away the supernatural pocket sand)

he's the MOST fascinated with the occult and weird eldritch stuff people keep whispering about (even though he can't believe what eshe saw) and i'm sure Nothing Bad Will Come Of That At All :)

he's perfect and i love him and i WILL cry if something kills him

this is an old monster of the week character of mine, but she was SO much fun. she's a demon, works in a flower shop, has an angel best friend & partner in crime/pretending to be cops/playing detective, drives a mint green prius and has a sawed-off shotgun in a pastel backpack

if her game ever crossed over with tma, she'd find a way to get on ghost hunt uk SPECIFICALLY so she could harass the ghosts and/or melanie and/or the entire archives staff

in answering this ask, i pulled out my binder of all my old character sheets and man there are SO many good ones, but i'm gonna go with Juran for #3 because i think his design is cool as FUCK and heroforge got advanced enough a while back for me to actually get close to what i had envisioned! (and yes he was named for the umbra questline song from warframe that makes me cry every time i hear it)

he was my character for an angelic homebrew @warlordfelwinter made and ran years and years ago and i don't remember most of what happened (my literal only note says "vaguely remembered fighting in a battle and then woke up in a lake of fire" lmao) but i DO remember that he was a messenger and would use his big-ass wings to catch thermals and jetstreams and the like to be Quick with his deliveries, and that he ended the game with a bag of beans (unused) and an iguana (heroforge only had a turtle)

trying to read an academic paper but really all i'm thinking about is "what if arthur and my precious little pulp boy roland met" and i've come to the conclusion that it would be delightfully funny and also a terrible disaster that would result in both of them immediately plummeting into madness bc most of their self-preservation seems to come from a third party (john, eshe), they are Not Immune to mysteries, they have a bad habit of reading any book that hoves into view, and they're both terribly british
