oc-tober 2024 day 4: under-appreciated oc

posting some old art today! as a forever GM, i rarely have a chance to play my own characters, so these guys are from two different oneshots that my lovely friends ran a while back <3 my poor goofy babies are gathering dust, i miss them so much 😩

On the left is Prince Marigold de Clair, or just Rigo! He's a kalashtar wizard who dreams of being a baker but has zero baking skills oops. They ran away from home because they have the whole ✨worldussy✨ Made for a DnD oneshot about acquiring the recipe to apple pie!

On the right is Esme Swinney, a rat bastard (affectionate) miner made for @ashleys-doodle-corner's Cairn oneshot! (She's also the one who rendered Esme's drawing — our first collab yay — and did the alt text! thank u bestie <3) Esme has 1 HP :)

Part 1 of my silly self-indulgent personal project to do a bunch of portraits of the World Enders (and I guess a couple other related characters). This set is all canon characters.

PLEASE NOTE that like while there's plenty here that's canon as far as names and sometimes faces go, a LOT of the info is part of a collaborative RP/writing project with @spectromagic so like, please don't take all of this as solid fact, just enjoy the cute and very simple little portraits, haha.

I'll do a part 2 or even 3 eventually but those will almost all be OCs we've used to fill out the gang. These folks at least you might have heard of from the band themselves! (Honestly Charlie is only here because she's named in canon and had a namedrop in what we've written so far unlike some of the other canon folks who we haven't really used like Tender Freddie or Jimmy Doll).

Tayron Lahey is Raimon Junior High School Soccer Team Defender.

His number is the 19th.

He’s in 2nd year like Riccardo (Shindou).

At first he seems calm and kind but he loves annoying Riccardo when he has the occasion, always making fun of the 1st years. But deep down he’s kind and gives good advice!!

Where Riccardo is Tayron is there too.

He’s a really good friend with Gaby, Aoyama and Ichino!

His best friend is Collin ( Riku ) my sister OC !!

the comment about his pecks is soooo real but also the fact that reaper feels comfortable to fall asleep in front of him while he watches over her?? cuteness is killing me right now. im jumping like a kid that got too much sugar in their blood

i rlly liked the nsfw part but the fact that rigo wrote her right as it was about to get steamy ofc hed to that LMAO but also im rlly excited for the date!!!

that simons background was one of those early 2000 wolves cracks me up cause they remind me of those tiktoks with the mental health grim reapers that bass voices

love how you always remind us on how red simon gets its so endearing but makes me cackle me with the visuals

thank you so much abt the flashbacks!!! again, this whole chapter and the fight scene was something i started planning since the beginning and MAN oh MAN on the horizon is a huge chapter that will most likely be at, or the same amount of words. it'll be hard to navigate in writing structure, but i think worst case it ends up being like 20k and i split it in half

wauw open choices for meee also good timing, I just got done with a very long phone call. I think I will do these for Rigo because he's probably the most like an OC of the characters I offered - literally nothing canon about him except his name, his drums, his Pall Mall cigarettes, and his disappearance. And yet somehow I have come to adore him so. He has a whole backstory now and everything, and I have written so much but all of it RP not fic so it is not very accessible.

2) Who's your OCs best friend? How did they become best friends?

Dale. They've been friends for about a decade now. I guess without infodumping an entire backstory here, Rigo wound up train-hopping his way to LA as a teen and so turned up in World Enders territory (the big LA train depot is on the east side of the river in the industrial area that I think very likely was the intended location for the underground clubhouse in the movie, at the very least). You don't show up in World Ender turf without someone noticing but since this kid was down to join and could play an instrument, he and Dale became fast friends - which is also what led him to being asked to join the band when that got going.

8) What hobbies does your OC have? What do they do to unwind?

Unhealthy ones!! Look, I'm pulling from his abrupt disappearance here and speculating that was from some too-heavy vide noir use but Rigo's unwinding of choice usually involves getting high, and we're not just talking pot here. He has wound up with a bit of an addiction problem (though this is also related to his parents both being heavy drug users, which is a part of why he left home).

But like, he also has normal and healthy hobbies - music certainly, he finds drumming to be a fantastic outlet as a way to hit things but have something beautiful come from it, and he also can be kind of a gym bro because being strong is important in this violent street life so why not get good at it and enjoy it.

He also thinks fighting is great stress relief and has zero qualms with inflicting serious pain on people, but, that's... fine.

20) If they fight, what's their weapon of choice?

While he does carry a knife and it's a useful and important tool, I love the idea of him as a brawler. Tough, strong dude who likes to hit drums good and also hit people good too. To make him even better at this he usually carries iron knuckles with him and for sure can break a jaw with a well-placed hit.

And you know what? He's super happy about that basically being his role in the gang. Play music, and then when Dale says go here and hit stuff, well, sure, compa. He'll go hit stuff for you no problem. What a champ.

"Do not pretend to fathom the situation." Rigo. He doesn't sound annoyed, but then again, I don't believed I've ever heard him agitated. 

"My, my," Ryan simpers. "Do you snap at hands that bear olive branches now, Rigo? Has being knocked down to ninety-second upset you?"

"The Overseer does not determine percentiles."

"If he speaks it into being, is it not true?"

"Please." Rigo drawls. "As if he understands their significance."

"Perhaps he does," Ryan replies in all seriousness. "He came so close to elevating you to the status of ninety-ninth."

Crack. The unmistakable sound of a slap. I can't be sure who has struck who, but one thing is for certain: the Rhos have no idea I am here. Even if the discussion of numbers is lost on me, I am enthralled by this unseen drama.

"Do not ever suggest such a thing again," Rigo says.

Amongst the Company's Committee of the Rho, Rigo is regarded as a '98th percentile', which is the highest rank achievable for any Rho whose Alpha is still living. The activities Shins undertook while performing as the demon Adam were indeed so dangerous that many consider it a miracle that Shins is still alive at all, and others hold reservations about Rigo's handling techniques, thinking it should not have been allowed to go so far.

When Shins stops moving, Rigo continues to serve the Company by working as a contracted hitman for the Michaels familia, under the moniker of the Undertaker. In his personal time, he shows a preference for the Italian Futurist movement and reading literary works by Marinetti and Kafka. Though he may seem detached on the surface, he has a penchant for subverting standard processes and is capable of intensely monitoring all residents of the townhouse.

Rigo first meets Aure when he is sent to confirm the death of Aure's master, and again to confirm the death of Matthias. After the second death, he becomes something of a mentor to Aure, or at least a source of routine and instruction. This dynamic is short-lived when he constructs an exercise where he fakes his own death to sever Aure's attachment to him, later citing that the relationship between them needed to remain adversarial.

Despite the wealth Rigo earned for the Company, the Overseer still demoted him to a 92nd percentile when Rigo's absence allowed Aure to coerce Shins into extremely dangerous behaviour with anaesthetics. Rigo refuses to acknowledge the demotion.
