One thing to come from reveal for The Veilguard: it gave me the Warden bug.

So I decided to recreate Rayne in the BG3 CC. AND, not only did I recreate her, but thanks to Mantis with the Margaery head preset, I was able to recreate her with her face claim Natalie Dormer!

I created her to look a little aged, putting her in The Veilguard timeline, which means she would be about 42.

Imma Talk about my Garbage Kids

I’m just gonna start chatting bout my Dragon age ocs first… then might move to different fandoms/groups depending on my mood… this is probably all gonna be text so feel free to just move past it without a second thought these are just my garbage children, and yes I realize most of them are women, I don’t have a problem playing as male characters I’m just gay and I tend to fall for the girls I build and get distracted.

Dragon Age Origins

Roslynn Cousland- Shes this strong smart steadfast woman, a warrior, she romanced and married Alistair, and they rule fereldan together, she leads the warden team situation

Elizabeth Amell- Shes motherly and persistent, once she sets her mind to something it must be completed, she's a mage, became a warden to get out of the tower and see the world and to help, she fell for Leliana, and she fell hard.

Rayne Amell- shes a lot like purple Hawke in terms of her personality, she is an apostate, and joined up with the Troops at ostigar as a warrior and offered herself to the wardens to help the war effort she joined up with Roslynn and the others at lothering after escaping the battle and managed miraculously to capture Morrigians heart.

Alim Surana- outgoing and charming he’s Maria’s elder brother, he joins the wardens with Elizabeth, sires Kieran for the ritual and spends however long he has left traveling the land killing dark pawn, bitter about what happened to his sister.

Shaewyn Ashanyla- stubborn, Melancholic, persuasive. She is formerly of the clan Ghilain and joined the wardens after contracting the blight through accidentally swallowing Darkspawn blood, she was a big help to the team and after the blight ended she was around Perelman helping people recover for about 3 years before she was sent on the road where she met her apostate wife.

Nyani Mahariel- Stubborn, free-willed and adventurous she was a great warrior for her clan till of course she contracted the blight and became a warden, she loved Tamlen more than she loved anything and never really got over him (and for Au purposes they became wardens together but in terms of canon game…)

Tatiana Tabris- Shes a stubborn strong-willed thief from denerim, she fell for Zevran and never ended up becoming a blight carrying warden but she was a great help to the team

Maria Surana- a shy, nervous, anxiety-ridden friend to Amell and Jowen. Though she was supposed to face her harrowing it didn't come before the whole thing that happened at the tower and in her fear of becoming tranquil she escaped in all the fuss and turned to blood magic on the road defending herself from wolves, she was eventually hunted down and made tranquil. Elizabeth took her in as an assistant when she found out about what happened

Kya Aeducan- a stubborn, but Charming dwarven princess who would stop at nothing to avenge her elder brother and claim what was rightfully hers, she's a warrior, and she ended up kindling feelings for Natia Brosca while she traveled with the Wardens.

Natia Brosca- slippery sweet-talking duster, she was conscripted into the wardens but never officially joined… slippery and all that, she stuck around at Kya’s promise to get her back to Orzimmar, back to her family, eventually she caught feels for the future Queen of Orzimmar (personal au and all that)

Dragon Age 2

Marian Hawke- purple verging red for personality, she was the warrior champion and is the oldest of the four of the siblings she supports her teammates and cares for all of them… maybe not Sebastian… he just rubs her the wrong way… she and Anders got together and she would do anything for him

Garrett Hawke- purple-blue Marians younger brother, friendly with everyone including Sebastian, he's a mage and he managed to capture Fenris’ heart

Lana Pentaghast- shes devout and kind, she related to Cassandra obviously and she got with Sebastian, she was in Kirkwall for reasons I haven't decided yet and joined the champions merry gang of misfits because well over anything else they *were* helping people even if the methods were unorthodox

Dragon Age Inquisition

Lydia Trevelyan- Sweet, clever, stubborn, Lady mage inquisitor and herald to Andraste, she brought the world to its knees with charm and wit and built an army to kill a god, and she romanced Cullen.

Jacob Trevelyan- he's charming and funny and genuinely based off Alistair for personality, he's formerly a templar, and is a warrior, Lydia’s older brother he helped in her endeavor to heal the world and found love in Cassandra

Leros Lavellan- witty, persuasive, charming, he's the oldest of his right knit siblings and the first to his clan he found himself charmed by Dorian and at Lydia’s side as a close friend.

Elissa Lavellan- strongwilled and caring with a bit of a temper she's a middle child with a sword and shield and is close with both of her siblings, she found affection in Solas and would listen as he spun tales of the old days to her and she was absolutely heartbroken when he left.

Lyna Lavellan- outgoing adventurous bad for her brothers health she is the youngest of the three lavellan kids and is quite skilled with a bow, she tends to be the glue that holds her siblings together because though Elissa is the second she has the protective nature of a first child which she shares with Leros and their stubborn natures tend to but heads, she fell into Seras arms romantically at the end of it all.

Persephone Adaar- oldest of the Adaar siblings and a mage she takes care of her siblings more as a mother than a sister seeing as they were raised with mercenaries. She fell for Iron bull in the end and travels with the chargers.

Freyja Adaar- she and her twin Tyr have considered 2nd cause none of them are really sure who was first. But Freyja’s fast hands and quick tongue land her in more than enough trouble with Perse and pretty much everyone else she ans Josie are happy together.

Tyr Adaar- hes tired and protective of his siblings, he would’ve made a fine agent of the qun had his parents not defected.

Eir Adaar- youngest of the bunch and the only one that is only half qunari her father having been an elf, she tends to be shorter than the rest of her siblings and has a… particular outlook on life not shared by many.

Opal Cadash- shes a sweet-talking fast-fingered surface dwarf with strong Carta presence shes the oldest child, she fell for Blackwall

Amber Cadash- Opals younger take no shit warrior sister.

Rayne is very blunt, never beating around the bush. People either love or hate her, there is no real in-between. She comes off as hard, sharp, short-tempered, and anything but shy, but those that win her trust and are allowed closer know that she is also soft. Those that knew her before the Blight know that the hard edges she wears now are just a shield for the soft girl underneath.

Even after a decade, she hates being referred to as the Hero of Ferelden due to her guilt over lives lost, some – like those in the City of Amaranthine – by her own hand. As such, she never felt much like a hero. In truth, she hates any title in general and is not shy about letting her feelings be known on the subject.

She is not religious. Never believing in the Maker. It is said that the Maker left his children because he could not forgive them for their sins. Rayne believes if a god cannot forgive he is no god, and they have nothing to worry about. Rayne hates politics, she only respects those that show her respect and refuses to coddle to the whims of nobles.

But, she is fiercely loyal to those closest to her. Many describe her as a she-wolf, likely to rip out your throat for hurting those she loves in any way - quite literally. She might forgive any pain caused to her or her loved ones, but she will never forget.

My beautiful Rayne Amell before she was recruited by Duncan by the amazing and talented @noctuaalba who I was lucky enough to commission. My first ever piece with Rayne when she had her lyrium brand of vines, and miss noctuaalba did a fabulous job of creating them. And have I ever mentioned how much I love how she paints hair and the beautiful lighting? I squealed when I saw this, I love it so frickin’ much. Thank you Miss Athena for this wonderful piece of my Rayne! ❤️

I love each piece I’ve commissioned from noctuaalba and hope to in the future get more of my children done by her. If you ever get the chance, commission this amazing artist.

Warden-Commander Rayne Sydney Amell

Rayne is very blunt, never beating around the bush and sarcastic by nature. People either love or hate her, there is no real in-between. She comes off as hard, sharp, short-tempered, and anything but shy, but those that win her trust - which is not an easy thing - and are allowed closer know that she is also soft. If you win trust and friendship, you will always have her loyalty. She hates being referred to as a hero since she doesn’t feel like one. She is not religious and not much of a diplomat.

Realizing not only is my Warden Rayne Amell like 42 by the time Veilguard begins, but that means her and Alistair's son Aiden is like 22. And I'm just... 😭 My babies' baby is all grown up.

And if I had kept my headcanon romance with Cullen, Davia would have been like 11-12.

Sorry for this random question, I’m not sure how sensitive it is. If it is just let me know! But since there was this post about ocs and kids I wanted to ask.

Did you retcon Rayne’s story because of the whole fiasco with Cullen’s voice actor? I just remember she was a huge part of your well everything. The one who got the most content, screenshots, and commissions.

As silly/weird as it may sound, yes.

I know that Cullen was written by someone else and all his VA did was provide one of the voices of Cullen.

But thinking back, before the whole debacle, when you thought of Cullen most people thought of Greg Ellis (or whatever he's calling himself now). I mean, the guy did streams (I can't remember what app it was on for the life of me) taking requests for singing as Cullen, did snippets for like ringtones/alarms and so on. Dude even went and made a YouTube video, pretending to be Cullen (either through all of it or at the end, I can't remember) after the whole incident - it wasn't up long - acting like Cullen and that he condoned/agreed with his VA's personal misogynistic, hateful views.

And unfortunately for me, I have been unable to separate the two since. Cullen has been tainted by one person and I hate that. For years now when I thought of Cullen and Rayne I just cringed, which made me sad because of everything I put into building their relationship; I wrote a 335,253 word 138 chapter fic for them, got 4 (I think?) commissions of them and their family together, all the one-shots and screenshots and so on. And it no longer brought me joy and actually made me sad that that was where Rayne ended up.

And so, after a lot of thought, I retconned Rayne's story. Basically making the relationship with Cullen an AU. It did make me a little sad because that meant losing their kids - Davia and Ned, especially Davia because I loved her relationship with Aiden - but I felt better for doing it.

I don't know where I'm going to go with her new story. If she'll remain a single mom, or if she'll end up with someone else (I contemplated her going back with Alistair, but I'm on the fence with that one). If she does end up with someone else that could open the door for bringing back Davia. We'll see.

Right now with my brain all either FFXIV or BG3 I don't have enough space for dragon age headcanons 🤣 Getting a little Dragon Age content to revitalize those juices would probably help, after this 10year dry spell.

But I still love Rayne and look forward to seeing how I'll write her new story at some point.

I’ve officially made Rayne and Cullen an AU. I’ve changed Rayne’s blog and put everything pertaining to them on it’s own page as an AU.

I’m both sad and... happy may not be the right word for it. But I feel better about this choice than I have about their ship in a long time. I’m sad because of all the time invested and knowing that once upon a time I loved their ship, but it hasn’t felt right in a long time. So I fee like this was the right choice. Will she be a single mom, with bed fellows? Will I pair her with somone else; if so who? We’ll see what happens with Rayne in the future :)

Is she going to be a younger Rayne or w/e age she is meant to be? idk how old she is supposed to be at this point lol. will she be romancing anyone? if so, who? i know you made the lion and the wolf an au, so did any of the events that Rayne was a part of happen? like losing her lyrium brands/no longer being blighted (spoilers to anyone who hasnt red this fanfic lol). thanks for letting a Rayne-simp simp out <3

I have a Rayne simp! I love it lol.

At this point Rayne would be about 42. I don't know if I could make her look like she's 42, road hard and put away wet; bitch has been through some shit over the last 22 years since the blight. If I'm doing my math right, lemme go through it to make sure. She was 19 when she became a Grey Warden (9:30 Dragon), 20 at the end (9:31 Dragon), 30 at the start of DAI (9:41 Dragon), 33 in Trespasser (9:44 Dragon) and Veilguard is supposed to be 9 years after Trespasser (9:53 Dragon). 23+19=42. Ok, got my math right lol (I failed math in school, so I had to double check). Back to the question. I guess I'll just have to see what I can do for her in the CC to determine her age. Or I can just say she has one helluva skincare routine to keep her looking so young 😂 Or blood magic (she is a blood mage after all 🤣)

As for romance. I picture her with Lucanis. Hands down. He's not the first abomination she's dealt with after all. Ngl, I've been writing a story in my head of my world canon Rook being Aiden (who is Rayne's son with Alistair) and Rayne eventually shows up. The blight is changing, so of course she will show up eventually at either Lavendale or the Crossing. She's been studying the blight for 20+ years looking for a cure, she wouldn't be ignoring the changes. She left the south in good hands to fight the cluster fuck going on (don't care what Bioware says, the Wardens that the HoF trained in Amaranthine and everything they've learned with the Architect's help has prepped them for this shit, the south wouldn't have ended up as bad as they made it out to be. Though thanks to the Eluvians she can pop in every so often to check in on things). The Veilguard convinces her to come to the Lighthouse to act as adviser, much like her role in DAI was. Aiden is with Neve and Rayne some how gets smitten with Lucanis, try as she might not to.

Basically when it comes to the events of The Lion and The Wolf everything happened, except anything romance related between Rayne and Cullen. So, yes she no longer has her brands nor is she blighted anymore. But Aiden is now her only child, since the romance between Rayne and Cullen never happened that means Davia and Ned don't exist either (much to my sadness, because I loved Davia and Aiden's sibling relationship).

For days I've been tweaking Aiden's appearance every time I went back to the Lighthouse because it never was quite right. Finally just went and re-sculpted his head. And I think I'm happier with this one. I finally managed the thicker lips (lips he got from his Amell side). And surprisingly I actually made his head work the way I wanted. Basically he has the Amell features (lips, nose, head shape) and Theirin coloring (aside from the Amell blue eyes). And putting it side-by-side with Rayne in Inquisition, I think it works. I won't know for sure until I get him in a cutescene. so, fingers crossed 🤞🏼
