*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Silver hair shined bright as the sun cascaded over her. Midnight eyes widen in intrigue. She whispered the words as she read them, careful not to disrupt the small animals running about in the garden.
“You aren’t cold?”
Gissella paused in her reading and put her book down on her lap. She looked around as snow covered the garden. She was sitting on a blanket, holding a cookie in one hand, her book in the other.
“No. Should I be?” she asked at the intruder of her thoughts.
“It’s freezing out here, you’ll catch a cold,” he said as he approached her.
He looked away and sneezed.
“I think someone already catched a cold,” stated Gissella as she folded the corner of the page she was currently reading and closed it, placing it on the blanket.
“Oh this is nothing,” he sniffled.
Gissella placed the cookie on top of her book and got up, dusting herself.
“Don't hide from me Neha. Let me see,” she lightly chastised him.
As she approached him, he took two steps back.
“I said i’m fine,” he grumbled.
Gissella smirked.
Suddenly the wind picked up, the field becoming colder. He shivered. A gasped escaped him as his feet were frozen in place. Cold hands touched his cheeks and forehead.
“Neha you are not ok! You are burning up!” said Gissella worried. “You can’t go out like this! Come on, back to bed with you.”
Neha shook his head, “I. Am. Fine.”
Gissella gave him a look that said she didn’t believe him as she used her fire magic to dissolve the ice on his feet.
“Let’s go. Come on,” she said as she grabbed his arm and pulled him to move.
Neha pulled back and Gissella wasn’t going to relent.
“I will take you back to your room if I have to drag you to it, Neha. Now come quietly, please?”
Neha sighed, relenting with a nod and he allowed her to pull him all the way back to his room.
“Now get in the covers and I will get some soup,” she ordered of him.
Without another word she left to the kitchens and luckily found one of the maids who were up and early. She requested a small soup for Neha. One that would make him feel better.
Without another word, the maid set to prepare the soup for her. Gissella didn’t have to wait long as the time passed while she read the cook book. She really needed to find time to learn to cook. She was… mediocre at it.
With a thanks and a bow she took the small bowl and quickly walked back to Neha’s room. As soon as she walked in, she heard him groaning and shivering.
Gissella quickly set the still hot bowl nearby a table by his bed and placed logs and branches into the fire place and set it on fire for his room to warm up. She looked into the cabinet to see if there was another thick blanket and luckily she found one. She placed it on him and grabbed a chair setting it by his head.
“Here. Eat this. Be careful it’s hot,” she cautioned.
Neha nodded and sat up trying to hold the bowl steady. After he took a sip he coughed. Gissella held the bowl hoping it wouldn’t spill on him.
“It’s too hot,” he whined.
Gissella cooled down the soup with her magic only just enough for the warm liquid to go into him as he ate it.
Gissella waited patiently as he finished his soup. Once he was done she grabbed the bowl from him and with a free hand touched his face.
“Your fever is down a little.”
She looked at the patterns on the bed as the sun shined through the window.
“I will get a nurse. Should you need anything, they will --”
“No. Stay. Please?” he asked of her.
Gissella raised a brow.
“You do know I have work to do right?”
“Please?” he pleaded again.
Gissella sighed.
“Sure. I will wait until you fall asleep then.”
“No. Stay all day,” he sniffed as he settled in the covers, getting comfortable.
“Can I at least go and get my book?” she asked as she sat on the chair.
“Can you request one?”
“Fine. Let me call someone to get me a book,” she grumbled as she opened the door.
She could hear many people going about their day. Luckily for her, Commander Cullen was spotted near where she was located. She closed the door only to hear Neha whine for her to come back and not leave.
With a sigh she had to do the one thing she hated doing. Shout.
“COMMANDER!”
Cullen jumped, papers thrown everywhere as he tried to locate her voice.
Gissella cringed, “sorry!” She whispered but tried again anyway, “COMMANDER OVER HERE!”
He finally spotted her wave of her arm and he gave her a scowl. Picking up his papers quickly he made his way towards where she was.
“Maker's breath, Gissella. I never heard you shout before! You gave me quite the scare!” He scolded her.
“I’m sorry Commander but Neha is sick and I really don’t want to leave him alone,” she looked down at his hands, “are those the reports for today?”
“Yes. I was organizing them for you,” he said as he handed her the papers.
“No need. This saved me a lot of trouble. Any reports just send them to me here,” she ordered.
Cullen nodded and saluted her. With an about face he walked away, leaving her to close the door as she began to read the reports in her hands.
A soft snore caught her attention. She looked at the small bundle under the covers sleeping soundly. It made her heart melt at the imagine. Neha was so adorable when he wanted to be. She approached his bed and made sure to tuck him in.
“Sweet dreams, Neha,” she whispered to him.
She leaned forward and planted a kiss to his cheek. He smiled at that.

OC Kiss Week Day 5: Fluffy
I Can Love You : Deviant Art Link
Here is another one for the OC Kiss Week 2017. Today's kiss is "fluffy" and it don't get fluffier than this! These two... ah these two. This is Ben & Beth. These two are from a story I wrote that I don't think I'll ever put out there but it's a sweet one. It's no AU, there's no fantasy, it's just straight up our time period etc. They don't have any super powers or nothing, just regular people. Ben's an Army Veteran who was discharged after being wounded, his injury is one that can't be seen (anymore) but has left him dependent on his parents. Beth and her husband came to know his family and Beth was an integral part of his recovery. Anyway, the story covers years of their collective relationships. Obviously this is a spoiler for it but because I probably won't ever put it out there, it's okay. Anyway... Ben is one of those characters that I tuck away in the protected corner of my heart because he's so pure and sweet. Here's a paragraph from the story just to give a little window into him.
-*-
Ben closed his eyes with a pained expression. “I told Mom and Dad. They got so mad, Beth. So mad.” He cupped the receiver with his free hand, gripping it tight against his ear with the other. “I yelled. Left. I… walked. I… I’m a grown man.” He stressed the words, eyes slamming shut with built frustrations. “I can have a child! I can… I can take care of it. I can! I can… remember how. I can, I’ve gotten better! I…” He felt his chin starting to tremble as everything pressed down on him. “I was a soldier.” The words came out so quiet, even he had trouble hearing them. He heard her sigh softly.

Year-End Fic Round-Up and Meme
2017 Fanfiction Round-Up (Template adapted from https://trey.dreamwidth.org/584.html!) My AO3 page! Total Year-Long Wordcount: AO3 tells me 18,160. Actually about 4200 of those were written last year but at this point I will take what I can get, so, Genghis Khan, you belong to 2017 now. Also, I wrote a whole ton of words in draft form, but it doesn’t count until it gets published, so I guess this year’s work will bolster next year’s (fingers crossed) word count!!
This year I wrote and posted: 6 whole new shiny fics!!! (OK, 5, because Genghis Khan was actually written by 23 December 2016 or so... but it’s near enough to 2017 that I’ll count it.) They’re all oneshots varying from 1.5k-4k in length, and fall in either the Inazuma Eleven or Saint Seiya fandoms. More under the cut~
Overall Thoughts Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I wrote a heck of a lot less than I thought. Should probably figure out how to write faster next year. I have been thinking of taking 1 day out of the 5-day workweek off for writing, but ultimately I think it’s either anime/manga/video games or writing which is not a fun thing to consider. This year, I have played a lot more video games, which I think is a great thing, but maybe not if it affects my writing (not saying that it does... correlation does not equal causation x)) What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Saint Seiya fits the closest, because even though I had started watching it by then it firmly fell (and still falls) in the category of fandoms where I don’t feel like there’s anything I can contribute. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? It has to be What draws me to you. No contest. I feel like I just about put myself into a depressive funk for 2 weeks just writing it and it was really worth it. And, for once, the title came to me and I didn’t have to do silly Google tricks or listen to a million songs to come up with a title. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? This year was so tame, I guess the biggest risk I took was in [redacted] (it is still not posted under my account due to being judged in a writing contest... but it is up, go look for it please) where I played around with nonlinear narratives... KIND OF. I guess I should take more risks next year, which I was already planning to do anyway but am definitely gonna do now! OKAY I went back to this because while I have mentally blocked out all the effort of working on [redacted] from my mind because it’s taking like four months to judge a contest and I’m a little frustrated... umm... I mean, anyway. I definitely thought long and hard about meta for once when writing it, and tried my hardest to make it so that readers had to put the pieces together to figure out what I was trying to do. One can say I was too subtle; honestly I’m not sure because there has not been a lot of feedback. Still, while it was a gruelling experience writing it, it was fun in the end, and the end result is pretty nice too. From my past year of writing, what was.... My best story of this year: What draws me to you My most popular story of this year: It was First Time according to hits, but that’s to be expected since the Saint Seiya fandom is a lot larger than the Inazuma Eleven fandom. Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: What draws me to you What draws me to you What draws me to you also [redacted] Most fun story to write: Okay to be honest, it was Peripeties, mostly because it was so fun to revisit the world of Renegade (my Fudou longfic about him between Shin Teikoku and Inazuma Japan) again and also think about what my convenience store gang OCs would be like a few years on. Antagonistic Fudou flowed so easily as well. Also I really enjoy thinking about Teikoku high school :^) Story with the single sexiest moment: I guess I’ll have to say [redacted], since there’s like, an established relationship in it which is probably the closest thing to sexy. I mean in Genghis Khan Someoka and Fubuki share a Look and in What draws me to you Fudou and Sakuma fucking hold hands. What more do you want from me!!! A kiss?! Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I guess that’s on my to-do list for next year. Actually, one of my WIPs (the one I wrote 20k words of notes/first draft during NaNoWriMo for but haven’t got around to refining) will have elements of that...  Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Definitely A Request, because I never write Gouenji or Kidou so I learned quite a bit about them while writing it. Which is probably a hint that I should challenge myself next year lol.  Hardest story to write: I don’t remember any of them being particularly difficult to write, which is weird because when I eat my own cooking I remember how much effort I had to put in to make it (although the fact that there’s a much shorter wait between cooking and eating probably explains that). Probably What draws me to you. I obsessed over every word, I did so much research (but it was interesting reading), I focused so hard on the vague images in my mind and tried to translate them faithfully into text... Biggest Disappointment: I am not entirely satisfied with [redacted] which is probably a good thing. I don’t think it’s quite exactly what I wanted to write, but only minutely different. Biggest Surprise: I guess I didn’t realise how big (or HyoShun-starved?) the Saint Seiya fandom was until I posted First Time and watched the hits grow day by day. Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I already did all of that in Renegade so I guess being its sequel, Peripeties is probably it. Favorite Opening Line(s): When Raimon had been told that they would all be sent to various schools around Japan to serve on their reinforcement committee, Someoka had been over the moon. Finally, some real responsibility. Then they had told him that he was assigned to the boondocks. From Genghis Khan Favorite Closing Line(s): I mean I could pick any of my emotional punchlines or whatever but who am I kidding, it has to be from First Time. "Nii-san," Shun finally said. He took the potent cocktail from the counter and drank, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Whoever said we weren't?"  Favorite 5 Line(s) from Anywhere: His heartbeat quickened, and he was about to drop Fudou's hands, only to freeze as Fudou started to tug his fingers closer in with his own and intertwine them together. Their palms touched, and Sakuma felt the calloused skin where Fudou's fingers met his palm. He couldn't help but close his fingers around Fudou's cool hands and give them just one light, hesitant squeeze. The answering pressure sent Sakuma's heart madly aflutter, and Fudou flushed, complexion growing darker even as he stubbornly maintained eye contact. The two of them stared at each other for the shortest eternity, or was it the longest moment? To be honest, there were multiple contenders for this just from What draws me to you alone, but after a close fight this won. Top 5 Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated:  1. What draws me to you, New Year’s festival at the temple, Sakuma in a suit, Miyabino next to him, both staring at a rogueish corn vendor Fudou in a dark blue kimono who’s fanning the coals with a rolled up sheet of newspaper, to the orange backdrop of the setting sun. I WANT THIS SO BAD I CAN’T EVEN 2. The final punchline of First Time. Shun’s sly grin!!! 3. What draws me to you, Fudou and Sakuma holding hands and all around them is the flowy, fluffy white of sakura petals 4. The chicken nugget confrontation in Peripeties! 5. Sakuma being a badass in [redacted]. Shouldn’t be more specific than that but I don’t think there are many scenes of Sakuma being a badass in that fic anyway... Also I have to say that my friend Ro illustrated the shooting stars scene in Peripeties and it’s soooooooo. Good!! <3 Fic-writing goals for 2018: 1. Finish Real Illusions, my Souda- and Sonia-centric post-SDR2 [Super Danganronpa 2] fic. OHHHHHH MY GOD. I THOUGHT THIS YEAR WOULD BE THE YEAR SINCE DR3 /AND/ NDRV3 WERE BOTH RELEASED. APPARENTLY NOT. 2. Finish part 1 of Blind Sin AU, and also think of a title for it instead of constantly calling it Blind Sin AU all the time, I guess. 3. Finish Redemption? To be honest I want to focus equally on original next year so I’m not exactly going to write 20 fics or anything like that. 4. Oh, yes. Try to push myself by writing characters, situations, styles, structures etc. I’m not familiar with.

Rayne sat crossed legged by a patch of grass. The tree in which she reclined, added a nice shade for her to stare at the parchment in her hand.
Her ears perked up as she heard a faint sound. She paused in her current task, smiling as she guessed who was nearby.
“You can come out now, Melinda,” she sing-songed as she scanned her paper and went back to whatever it was that held her attention.
“Aww man!” Melinda giggled as she jumped from the tree nearby. “What gave it away?” she whined.
“You suck at keeping quiet,” Rayne laughed.
Melinda pouted and went to see what she was working on. She hovered over Rayne as she paused for a moment for Melinda to see.
“Is that?”
“Yep.”
Melinda excited, took the parchment, even if it wasn’t done, from Rayne’s hands.
It was a portrait of Melinda looking like she was daydreaming.
“Rayne this is so amazing! Your drawings are glorious!” Melinda gushed.
Rayne nodded with her hand reaching for the paper. Melinda gave it back to her reluctantly. She wanted to keep it.
“It’s not finished.”
Melinda smiled and sat next to Rayne. With a kiss on her cheek she placed her head on her shoulder.
“You are an amazing friend.”
Rayne hummed in response as she continued to draw, Melinda watching silently in awe.
"By the way, Cullen was looking for you,” Melinda informed.
“What for?” Rayne asked as she paused.
Melinda raised her head from Rayne’s shoulder and got up, dusting herself off.
“He just said it was very important. He was out and about this morning when I barely left my chambers. He was very worried.”
With a close to her sketch book, Rayne reluctantly got up.
“And he didn’t think to find me in the gardens?”
Melinda shrugged, “I was too much in my own world to really ask why he didn’t.”
Rayne sighed, “And I was having a nice morning too.”
Melinda laughed, “he just called you in to see your beautiful face. I see you two. You two make me want to throw up rainbows.”
Rayne laughed shaking her head as they both entered Skyhold’s castle.

Jessica sighed out of boredom. Her boyfriend was busy with calibrations. She tried to get him to leave it for later but it was urgent and he had to fix it. She suggested Gus or Bryant even Celestine to help but he just laughed. Typical of him to think he is the only one with smarts to tinker with the big gun.
Thinking of Celestine, she currently left the medbay with the same bored expression on her face. She yawned as she went to the cabinet to take out a shot glass and pour tequila in it.
“EDI, turn off the smoke detector in this entire floor,” she commanded as she knocked the small glass back.
“You know there is no smoking on my ship, Cele!” whined Jeff.
“Fuck your rules. I need a smoke. And I’m lazy to leave the ship,” sighed Celestine as she leaned on the stove and popped a cigarette into her lips.
She waited three seconds for the red light to turn off and on queue, they turned off. She smirked as she lit up her cigarette, inhaling small puffs to start it up.
“Smoking is bad for you,” sing songed Jess as she walked up to her.
“Everything is bad for me,” she laughed as she exhaled and tapped the butt of it into the sink. “What’s up? You look bored.”
“I am,” she huffed.
“The Big Guy too busy to take his girl out?” she spoke loud enough for him to hear her.
The door opened behind Jess as Celestine inhaled her cigarette.
“I am too --”
“Blah, blah,” she interrupted as she blew out the rest of the smoke.
Garrus rolled his eyes, “why not go have a girl date or something?”
Celestine raised an eyebrow, “that ain’t a bad idea. Where do you wanna go?” she asked Jess.
“I don't know? A bar?” she replied.
Celestine smirked, “Wanna watch Fleet --”
Jess narrowed her eyes holding up a finger, “don’t you dare finish that sentence.”
Celestine laughed as she blew the last smoke of her cigarette, putting it out in the sink. She turned the faucet on, waited three seconds and turned if off. Dusting her hands off she adjusted her leather jacket.
“Let’s go see what we can find,” said Celestine as she walked ahead of her.
“Stay out of trouble, Kitten?” Garrus pleaded as he turned around.
Jess smirked, “and what fun would that be?” she winked at him and ran after Celestine.
Garrus shook his head and closed his door, going back to work.

“How about we go eat at the most expensive restaurant the Citadel has!” suggested Celestine, “Bryant’s treat?” she grinned.
Jess raised a brow, “Bryant isn't here?”
Celestine giggled, “he is rich. He doesn’t care. Come on.”
“I don’t know, Cele. The Citadel has over exaggerated prices,” said Jess concerned.
Celestine smiled, “they got the best wine! Come on! You never experienced it! It’s so good!” whined Celestine.
Jess couldn’t refuse the invitation to drink wine. She grinned and followed Celestine all the way to towards the center of the citadel. Only the people with money and importance were able to enter. Celestine and Jess went in with no problem, being specters and heroes and all.
The restaurant was over the top fancy with abstract paintings of different planets and the decor was weird but the food smelled nice and she couldn’t wait to drink the best wine in the Citadel.
“Here you are, ladies. Your server will be right with you,” said the asari as they sat down.
“Thank you.”
Jess was like a child looking around at the many different aliens and humans all together talking quietly. She felt underdressed for such a place.
“Don’t worry. You’re not. I never came over dressed to this place,” assured Celestine as she saw her face slightly fall into embarrassment.
Moments later another Asari came to their table and took their orders, leaving the bottle of wine on the table that she carried the bottle to sample a taste but Celestine just told her to leave the bottle.
“I am so glad they have sushi!” Jess cheered.
“I am glad they have human food,” laughed Celestine as she popped open the bottle of wine.
She poured two glasses and gave one to Jess. She smelled it, softly twirled in her hand and began to take a sip.
She clicked her tongue and closed her eyes, “this is so good.”
Celestine nodded in agreement as she drank her cup.
“So? You and Gus?” began Jess with a raised eyebrow.
“Me and Gus what?” Celestine questioned back.
Jess paused in her teasing for a moment as the asari waitress come back with their food. Once she was gone, Jess hummed in delight at seeing her favorite kinds of food in front of her.
“Got any plans?” asked Jess getting back to her questions.
She bit into a California roll loving the taste of it.
“What do you mean by plans?” Celestine raised a brow to see if she would just spit it out what she wanted to say. She loved doing that to everyone.
“Plans of being together, duh,” stated Jess the obvious.
Celestine laughed, “was that so hard to ask?”
Jess gave her a look that made Celestine snort.
“To answer your question, I don’t think there are any plans,” confessed Celestine.
“Why not?”
Celestine paused in cutting her steak.
‘Why not?’ was the question wasn’t it? ‘You re not his type’ her mind echoed.
“I’m going to be an open book with you because I know how much Gus means to you, but in truth, there are no plans,” she admitted as she went back to cutting her steak into pieces for easy eating.
“So why mess with him?” Jess asked as she took a sip of her wine.
Celestine chuckled, “what? Two people can’t mess around?”
“You know what I mean.”
Celestine shrugged, “he is an incredible lover. Not going to lie.”
Jess choked on her wine which made Celestine laugh.
“You should be careful what you ask for,” Celestine chuckled as she took one of her steak pieces and ate it.
“You really have no filter,” laughed Jess.
Celestine shook her head as she swallowed, “no. I see no point in having one. Just say what you mean and get it over with,” she shrugged as she ate another piece of steak.
“If it’s not going anywhere, why not just tell him so?” asked Jess. “Take your own advice.”
Celestine smirked, “maybe i'm selfish. Maybe I don't want to share.”
Jess narrowed her eyes as she thought about that.
“Jessi I don't… I don't have any plans with him because I don't have plans for myself,” confessed Celestine as she leaned back on her chair. “You can’t bring someone into your life just to have them. Relationships are time consuming. They require one to devote their entire time to that person and vice versa. I cannot do that. I did that twice,” she paused as she took a sip of her wine. “The first, I ran away. I was afraid. I was young. The second died by a turian whom I thought was family to me.”
Celestine sighed as she stared into her almost empty cup. The red liquid reminding her of her past.
“Gus is… kind. Gentle. Modest. And I am not. I am woman who is just selfish and when I see something I want, I go and sink my teeth into it,” Celestine grinned as Jess rolled her eyes. “No sexual pun intended by the way. But it’s very much true about me.”
“For what is worth, I think you are those things too,” said Jess with a soft smile.
Celestine returned her smile with one of her own. Placing the cup back down onto the table, she poured herself another glass and refilled Jess’ cup as well.
“I'm not for Gus. If he is ready to say no more, then I will back off. No need to make it dramatic,” said Celestine as she drank her wine in earnest now.
Jess clicked her tongue at that comment, “I know you're lying when you drink the wine the way you did.”
Celestine laughed, “you know me so well. No but seriously.”
“Mmhhmm, you tipping back the wine in one swallow says otherwise.”
Celestine shrugged, “it’s good!”
They both laughed. They decided to eat their food in silence. For as much as Jess cared about Gus, she could understand Celestine. If she didn’t love herself, how was she going to love Gus? It was best the way Celestine left it. Another woman would have not cared and made a big mess about it but maybe that’s why they got along well. They both pretty much were thinking the same. Always thinking of others before hurting them. And by avoid doing that was to understand yourself, first and foremost.
With their bellies full and content smiles, Celestine paid the bill and both left out, walking in companionable silence.
“If you two ever get together, I would be very happy,” Jess confessed.
Celestine paused in her step and looked at her.
“You wouldn’t want me as your sister in law,” Celestine laughed.
Jess nodded, “I would very much love the idea,” she grinned.
Celestine laughed and hugged Jess, she kissed the top of her head. After a few seconds more of holding each other Celestine backed away from her.
“I already see you as my little sister. Twin sister, sense we tend to have many things in common.”
Jess giggled.
“Come on, I wanna go to this shoe store that we passed on our way to eat!” said Celestine as she extended her arm for Jess to take.
Jess looped her arm with hers and together walked down the store.
“OH! Can we also stop by the store next to it? I saw a cute jacket!”
Celestine laughed, “anything for my little sister.”
Jess only giggled at that.

OC KISS WEEK 2017: DAY 5
Event: OC Kiss Week 2017 - Day 5: Fluffy Kiss OC’s: Gissella Trevelyan Words: 503 Universe: Dragon Age Inquisition Note:  ISABELLE LAVELLAN belongs to @kadustuniverse I hope you like the mini fluffy story. I know Isabelle loves sweets! :D)
LIKES AND/OR REBLOGS ARE LOVE ♥︎ THANK YOU FOR READING!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Gissella hummed as she walked out of the Josephine’s office. She was so glad that the meeting was over, she couldn’t wait to go to her library and curl up on a sofa and read to her heart's content.
As she jogged down the stairs she spotted a sad blonde headed elf approaching her.
“Isabelle? You ok?” Gissella asked concerned.
Isabelle must have been in her own world as she slightly jumped at her voice.
“I'm worry, what?”
“Are you ok?” repeated Gissella.
“Oh. I'm fine.”
Gissella wasn’t convinced that she was fine. She didn’t want to pry but neither did she want to see her friend upset.
“Anyway, I will see you later.”
Gissella moved out of her way as Isabelle went up the stairs. Before she reached the top of the stairs Gissella called out to her.
“Would you like to come with me shopping?”
Isabelle turned around with a shake of her head, “not today. But thank you for the invitation.”
“I would really like your company,” Gissella smiled. “Besides, I don't want to eat alone at the new restaurant they opened up. I really want to try the small cakes.”
Isabelle perked up a bit at that. It made Gissella grin.
“Alright,” Isabelle relented to her request as she jogged back down the stairs.
Gissella requested their horses and off they went to Val’Royoux. Once there, Gissella tried to chat with Isabelle about her favorite things. Nature, dancing, yoga, sweets. Anything to make her friend smile.
Gissella did have to do some shopping but she hoped to put it off until tomorrow but she guessed today was as good a time as any to grab what she needed.
Isabelle also took the opportunity to buy herself some things. Her mind off of whatever was causing her distress. Finally it came to eating at the restaurant. They ordered a bunch of sweets and they both toasted to their sweet tooths and began to eat the sweets in earnest.
“I am never eating another cake again,” Isabelle vowed as she groaned holding her stomach. Head on the table.
“Same here,” agreed Gissella.
They ate too much to move.
“But I am glad you are feeling better.”
Isabelle raised her head to look at her with a smile.
“Nothing ever escapes you does it?”
Gissella shook her head with a chuckle, “not when it comes to my friends.”
Isabelle smiled at that.
“Come on, sweet tooth. Let’s go back to Skyhold before everyone worries and Cullen sends the calvary.”
With a groan Isabelle shook her head placing it back on the table.
“I will move in ten more minutes,” she announced.
Gissella laughed, already getting up from the table.
“Come on. You can lean on me.”
And lean on her she did as they both walked back to their horses.
“Thank you,” said Isabelle.
“For what?” inquired Gissella.
“For having my back,” she said and then kissed Gissella’s cheek.
Gissella blushed.
“Anything to see you smile, sweet tooth.”
Isabelle giggled at that.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Golden eyes narrowed as they stared at the red bag. Imagination running a mile a minute to make the bag into an enemy. His boyish smirk appeared before them, pupils dilated, anger rose quickly causing her to strike the bag with everything she had.
“If that was Bryant, he could have been in a hospital,” laughed Celestine from behind her.
The red bag unhinged itself from the pole it was sitting in and now on the floor of the cargo hold. Akeelah breathed heavily as she looked at Celestine over her shoulder.
“Did you need something? Or are you here to be an annoyance like your brother?” she said harshly due to her workout.
Celestine tilted her head with a smirk, “if I wanted to annoy you, you wouldn’t be complaining.”
Akeelah raised a brow at that. Not knowing what to say to that. She went to grab the heavy bag. She was exhausted as she bent to grab it. As she picked it up it suddenly got lighter. On the other side was Celestine holding it.
“I can see you are exhausted,” she pointed with her chin to the pole.
“Thanks.”
After they both placed the punching bag it it’s hinge Akeelah went to her workspace and grabbed her water bottle and a towel, leading on her desk waiting for Celestine to tell her what she wanted from her.
“I wanted to see if you would take my invitation to go out and drink. If drinking isn’t your style then we can go to a diner or something,” offered Celestine as she leaned on the wall with a leg bent, boot on wall.
“To what end?” Akeelah asked as she finished drinking water.
Celestine shrugged, “I can hang out with everyone here with the exception of you, because we haven’t had a moment to hang out. I don’t know about you but I like to get to know my crew.”
Akeelah mused the idea over in her head for a moment.
“I can always just kick your ass over and over in here if that is your thing,” Celestine chuckled.
Akeelah smirked at that, “as much fun that would be to prove you wrong, because let’s face it, i’m better than anyone here at hand to hand combat --”
Celestine laughed, enjoying the casual way she was talking to her.
“That would get boring fast. So yes, we can go get drinks. I agree that we should all get to know each other. Brings the crew together.”
Celestine nodded, “I will wait for you outside the ship.”
With an affirmed nod from Akeelah, Celestine walked back into the elevator leaving Akeelah to get dressed.
****
Celestine didn’t have to wait very long for Akeelah to appear next to her with a hand to her shoulder, she turned. She wore casual jeans, a black v neck shirt and her favorite N7 grey hoodie.
“It’s nice to see you out of all that armor and not only in your dress blues,” complemented Celestine.
Akeelah shook her head, “I don’t know who is worse? You or your brother.”
“Me, that’s for sure,” winked Celestine.
They walked to a bar nearby. Since it was daytime, it was pretty quiet. Only three couples and 2 people were inside the place. Softly chatting or watching the sports game on the screen. Celestine greeted the bartender behind the counter and he smiled, waving back, promising to take her order in a sec.
Akeelah and Celestine sat at a booth somewhere in the back and away from everyone else. Celestine liked this spot when she just wanted to enjoy a different scenery and didn’t want to be bothered.
“You must come here often to be greeted by the bartender,” commented Akeelah as she looked at the decor of the place.
It was simple. Wood everywhere, with weird head statues of animals and portraits of famous people back on Earth were on the walls and with television in certain places, a pool table on the other side and next to it was a bull rider. The bar in the center and it wasn’t bad smelling like other bars. It smelled like someone actually cleaning their establishment. The light’s hanging above them was a low yellow casting a soft glow inside the place. It wasn’t dark but not overly bright.
“It reminds me of where I grew up.”
Akeelah raised an eyebrow at that.
“Remember that I am Bryant’s step-sister. We grew up together. Houston, Texas,” Celestine winked. “I miss the ranch.”
Akeelah saw sadness suddenly replaced those bright midnight eyes.
“Sorry to hear about your father.”
Celestine nodded with a smile.
“He was… a fantastic man. A beautiful human being. Wonderful husband and…” Celestine paused as she started at nothing but remembering his face, “an amazing father.”
Akeelah felt a hole cut in her heart. She understood that feeling. Losing family was never easy.
“What can I get you ladies?” asked the bartender as he came to their table.
Akeelah looked at the menu in front of her trying to see if there was anything she would like.
“Give me two shot glasses and the hardest drink you got,” Celestine grinned.
“Coming right up then,” the bartender chuckled as he walked away.
“Well, seems like it’s going to be a party for you because I am not drinking to get drunk,” commented Akeelah.
“Nonsense,” Celestine waved her hand in dismissal of her comment, “we will have fun. You came with me. Told you i'm worse than Bryant.”
Akeelah sighed, “fine. I’m not taking you back to the ship though.”
Celestine laughed, “I can just call Bryant to pick us up.”
Akeelah rolled her eyes.
“Here you go ladies,” announced the bartender as he laid two shot glasses and a bottle of vodka in front of them. “And here, on the house,” he said as he also laid a small basket of cheese puffed biscuits in front of them and some cut lemons.
With a nod from Celestine the bartender left. She opened the glass as Akeelah took a biscuit and gave it a sniff.
“They are good. Trust me.”
Akeelah took her word and took a small bite to taste it. They weren’t great but they were ok.
“Here,” said Celestine as she slided the shot glass to her and raised her’s for a toast, “for the good people we lost along the way of life.”
Akeelah was hesitant at first to take the shot but it was a worthy thing to toast to so she took the small cup and softly hit her’s agreeing to the toast. Both took a deep breath and knocked back the drink.
Akeelah coughed and fanned herself as the drink burned her throat.
“Whoo! That is strong!” Celestine cheered as with a laugh, slamming the cup on the table.
“How do you do this everyday with your alcohol?” coughed Akeelah.
Celestine laughed, “I like to feel numb. No feeling.”
Akeelah hummed, “the good thing at least is that you burn all of this bad stuff out of your system. Drinking isn’t healthy --”
“Blah blah --” Celestine cut her off, “don’t be Gus and Bryant. They do that every time its alcohol.” Celestine paused at the raised eyebrow Akeelah gave her, “well, Gus approves of wine but not the hard stuff. Bryant won't shut up about it,” she giggled.
Akeelah smiled, “they care about you, very much. We all do.”
“D’awww you care, that is so sweet!” Celestine laughed.
Akeelah rolled her eyes.
“Don’t let Bryant hear you, he will get jealous,” she winked at Akeelah.
“I don’t care what he feels, so long as he stays miles away from me,” said Akeelah as she leaned back on the seat.
Celestine swallowed the liquid, closing an eye as she savored the taste, “I was just like you when I met him the first time. I used to hate him. I wanted him so far away from me.”
She poured herself and Akeelah another shot.
“Why? Did he do something you didn’t like?” asked Akeelah as she took her cup.
“I hated his innocence. His nativity,” said Celestine as she knocked back the drink. With a groan she softly slammed the cup on the table. She felt tingly, enjoying the fuzzy feeling.
“I used to bully him. Terrify him. Take our father’s time whenever he gave only a tiny bit of attention to Bryant. I wanted to break him,” Celestine confessed.
Akeelah was stunned by this revelation. Something she didn’t expect to hear.
“That… that doesn’t sound like anything you would do just by the way you are overprotective of him,” said Akeelah as she furrowed her brows. She took her drink and knocked it back, making a face as it went down her throat. “What changed?” she asked with a cough.
Celestine looked at the lights in the distance with a tilt of her head, “he came home beaten up. Bruises, cuts, bloodied. A broken arm.”
‘Golden hair slick and sticky as gun and blood was stuck to it. Her mother and father attending to him as he barely made it to the door. Red colored her vision.’
Akeelah’s heart speeded up as the story continued.
“I can understand that can change a person --” began Akeelah.
Celestine shook her head, “no. It didn’t changed me or my feelings. But no one bullied him but me. No one was going to take that away from me. And I don't regret what I have done.”
Akeelah grimaced as it was her turn to pour the shots, giving Celestine hers and watched as she knocked it back like a pro now. No face, no cough, no groan.
“I went to his school and announced through the PA system that I wanted those responsible for beating up Bryant. I gave his full name and description. Soon I heard it was a small group of eighth graders, 5 of them, who had beaten him. They gloated about it.”
Celestine poured the drinks next, knocking back hers and then pouring some for Akeelah.
“What happened?”
“Three went to the hospital, one was permanently disabled and one died.”
Akeelah almost dropped her glass. She didn’t expect that confession.
“I went to jail for juveniles and went to court but was not prosecuted because I stared at the families of those kids and while they were crying I told them what they had done. Teachers that were witnesses confirmed stories of their bullying but it didn’t warrant one to die,” Celestine chuckled, “they really wanted me in jail. To ‘rot forever in there’ a mother had said. A ‘monster’!”
Celestine knocked back another glass and this time stared at the glass.
“Once it was confirmed I wasn’t going to jail I visited Bryant in the hospital and that is when I changed my view of him.”
Akeelah raised a brow as Celestine looked fondly at the small cup.
“He had something I didn’t. It was taken from me. But it wasn’t taken from him. I wanted to preserve that. So I always was there for him. During his recovery I was there, always helping him. Cheering him up. Taught him to defend himself…” Celestine paused as she placed the glass on the table, “the Alliance took notice of the incident and sent me to the BAat program two years later. It was quite sometime before I saw Bryant again.”
Akeelah was deep in thought as she absorbed the information. It was very true then. She never had a break to actually be herself.
Celestine knocked another and finally feeling that numb feeling. She started to laugh which prompt Akeelah to laugh along with her. Her laughter infectious.
“I know Bryant can be a pain in the ass sometimes. But you are the first to challenge that.”
Akeelah waved a hand in dismissal.
“I am not interested in knowing. Like I said, I don't --”
“Whether it happens or not, take care of him,” said Celestine cryptically as she got up from her seat.
Akeelah raised a brow and followed Celestine as she paid the bartender his credits and walked out of the establishment.
She paused in her step and smiled softly as she turned to look Akeelah.
“We should do this more often. It seems I can just rant about anything,” Celestine grinned.
Akeelah nodded, returning her smile, “I am here if you need someone to speak to.”
Celestine leaned forward and kissed Akeelah on her cheek.
“I am very grateful to have met you, Akeelah. No matter what happens, i'm here for you too, always.”
Akeelah blushed softly at that.
With a nod they walked in companionable silence back to the ship.
