Word count: 689
And in the end, it had ended quietly.
A bitter irony, you think, after everything. You feel paralyzed, still, though part of you whispers that it’s all in your head, and that really, you could be moving, if you wanted to. Your blood is ice, marrow, too, so you decide to move, because it’s preferable to freezing. You contemplate the brittleness of your hands. Cold, like a stone coated in frost. Warm, like hot blood over skin. Warm, like his blood over your skin.
You shiver, and you blink. There is nothing on your hands, you tell yourself firmly, and convince yourself that the stain on your skin is nothing more than a memory, as you know that it is.
A bitter irony, after everything. He had done so much. To you. To everyone. And he could have succeeded, couldn’t he? You know he could have. How would the galaxy look, if he had? He would have changed so much. A part of you despises him, another fears him, and another--
Another part loves him. Loved him. You blink down at the mocking, imagined shadows of blood on your hands, and you pace to keep the ice away from your soul.
Something in your head whispers that it will be easier to ignore this, to lock it away. You know that is a terrible solution, and it would be quite stupid to do so. Is it smarter, though, to rip a bandage off a wound you’re not sure has healed? In any case, you’ve never been one for excessive caution, so your thoughts turn to the man you hated and you loved.
You hadn’t loved him, not at first. He was callous, and cruel, and astonishingly arrogant. Charming, like a snake. Wily and solitary, like a wild dog. A puppeteer, playing games with the threads that held the galaxy together. You think about that longer. You hadn’t understood him, then, and you do so hate others pulling your strings. So you hate him. He had hated you, too--of that, you are certain, but you are just as certain that some part of him cared for you, in his own broken way. After all, he could have left you to die, couldn’t he have?
Blood, his blood, is warm on your hands. You know there is nothing there, but your senses are not so easily convinced. You concede, briefly, to the icy claws in your chest to go wash your hands and pretend that will wash away the blood that isn’t there.
Never had you intended to learn more about him. Nor had you expected him to tell you. But in the end, you can hardly bring yourself to wholly fault someone who had been taught the galaxy was a cruel and broken place, and that the solution was to be even more cruel and even more broken until the galaxy wasn’t, when he had been no more than eleven. You wonder if he ever recognized that, in a different way, he had been just as trapped, as conditioned, as imprisoned as you had been when he was the one holding the keys. Maybe he would have. Unfortunately, he’s dead, and the dead don’t tend to do much in the way of self-reflection.
Maybe, if he had lived, if you hadn’t killed him, things would be better. Maybe they wouldn’t have been. Regardless, green eyes haunt you in your sleep and in the waking hours of the morning, and his blood is crimson on your hands. You’ve been told that this will subside with time, to a degree. You had nodded and pretended you agreed.
A bitter irony, after everything. It wouldn’t have been, if he had succeeded, but he did not, and you--you can’t call it a success; it doesn’t feel like one, but you’re not sure you lost. You certainly haven’t won.
A bitter irony, after everything. For all he had struggled and strived for, for all you had suffered in his wake, his death, and the death of his dream, hold no more relevance in the great machine of the galaxy than the death of a moth.

SWTOR Alliance Commander Ask Game
Tagged by @grandninjamasterren!
Merrow
Merrow is my Alliance Commander! He's an Imperial operative (concealment). Started out as neutral-leaning-dark, but his alignment became more and more light throughout his experiences and character growth.
Merrow is my Alliance Commander! He's an Imperial operative (concealment). Started out as neutral-leaning-dark, but his alignment became more and more light throughout his experiences and character growth.
2- What's a reason or two you like that this character is your Commander?
He's intelligent and capable, good at strategizing and planning ahead. As my main character to run through Shadow of Revan (though others were there), Merrow has experience handling a large military force. He's a good actor, sociable and capable of putting on a brave face even when he's not feeling confident, making him a good figure as a leader overall.
3- What's a reason or two you don't like about them being Commander?
Being Commander definitely limits Merrow's freedom--it's hard to take any significant vacations when you've got a third galactic faction looking to you. Privately, he very much misses the freedom he enjoyed as an independent, unaffiliated agent after the fall of the Star Cabal, but that's something he'd only ever admit to the people he's closest to.
4- Why did this character of all your OCs become Commander?
Honestly? I planned to romance Theron with Merrow from the beginning, and there's only one option in-game that reflects that. He's also my main. As for the in-universe explanation, it's because Merow (in part due to his flexibility as an eventually unaffiliated character and his own penchant for doing interesting things) makes the connections that pull him deeper into the plot, such as working with Marr on Makeb then later getting involved during the SoR arc. Though he'd erased his records previously after the Cabal, these make him prominent, rumors of the "Imperial Ghost" continue to circulate throughout Imperial and Republic intelligence alike. Whether or not Merrow would agree with the "Imperial" part of the moniker is another matter, but the fact remains that he is a known figure by the time he confronts the Eternal Empire--by name, if not by face. As such, and especially with other possible Commander candidates being occupied with their own matters at the time, Merrow was the natural choice once Lana freed him from carbonite.
5- Who did they side with? Did they stay loyal or go saboteur? Or maybe you headcanon they defect properly?
Merrow ends up fully defecting to the Republic, which begins on Iokath and becomes official in the aftermath of Zildrog. While both the Empire and the Republic have their issues, Merrow believes the Republic is the lesser of two evils and overall has more capacity for positive change. While the idea of him playing saboteur is proposed, he denounces it immediately: while the role is something Merrow might've agreed to as an independent operative, it's not the type of mess that he's willing to drag the whole Alliance into.
6- Are there any NPCs from the class stories that you'd like to see/HC join the Alliance? Ex: Master Timmns, Ardun Kothe, Watcher One, etc.
There are several, actually: Shara Jenn, who joins after the fall of the Eternal Empire. Chance, Saber, and Wheel. Possibly Watcher Three. A handful of others.
7- How's your OC feeling about the current Malgus situation?
While Merrow is wary, he's also incredibly curious about Malgus's recent machinations. He knows Malgus is hardly the type to act rashly or without reason--so, then, what is he doing now? Does he still carry enough of a grudge against Merrow to make him an immutable threat? Can he be reasoned with? While Merrow, objectively, would much rather not have to deal with Malgus at all, the reality is that Malgus is very much alive and causing problems. That leaves him with two options: kill Malgus, which would be very difficult, or make Malgus an ally--which would likely be just as difficult, if not more so, but with a much higher payoff. As of right now, however, he's simply watching and waiting, hoping to determine Malgus's true motives.
8- Are any of your other OCs part of the Alliance? If yes, what do they do for the Alliance? Do they get along with your Commander?
All but two of my main eight end up joining the Alliance, actually: Aikiyc, former Empire's Wrath; Zeke Marsay, the Jedi Battlemaster who was the first to topple the Emperor; Sunni, better known as Darth Imperius; Levi, the champion of hunters who was adopted into Clan Lok; and Komaa Emersyn, the Barsen'thor. Skyler Aysa, the Voidhound, does not join the Alliance in any official capacity but closely aligns himself and his resources with the Alliance's needs. Bry'a, once the major of Havoc and now the general of SpecForce, remains firmly devoted to the Republic, but he tends to view the Alliance in a more positive light than his peers and turned a blind eye when his old squad, under Major Aric Jorgan, decided to defect to join the fight.
9- How does your OC feel about Odessen? (Bonus: how do you feel about it?)
Merrow absolutely adores Odessen--the planet is beautiful and isolated, and it's been so long since he's had a definite place to call home that he's quick to take a shine to it. Personally, I love the atmosphere and aesthetics of Odessen; my only issue is that there's very little to explore outside of missions.
10- How does your Commander feel about being the Commander?
Merrow loves the Alliance fiercely, but he's always privately disliked his role as the Commander. He's naturally disinclined towards leadership positions, even if he's very good at them. He hides his discontent from the vast majority of the Alliance. Truthfully, he doesn't lead alone by a long shot. Merrow prefers to work closely with his advisors before he, as the Commander, presents their collaborative decisions to the whole of the Alliance.
11- Favorite place in the Alliance base?
Merrow likes exploring the surrounding forests, but the cantina's also another safe bet during his downtime... or, frankly, wherever he can find his favorite people, regardless of where they are on base.
12- Favorite mission in KotFE? Why?
I've always been partial to Chapter 9: The Alliance. I like the speech the Commander gives and how it frames the birth of the Alliance--and, of course, everyone's favorite spyboy gets his big entrance.
13- Favorite mission in KotET? Why?
Chapter 6: The Dragon's Maw. Even though it's definitely somewhat tedious in practice, I enjoy the story of this chapter, as well as Theron's active role. The agent, of course, is well suited to sneaking around undercover. Naturally, I do take some issue with how things end up playing out and will likely make some alterations for my own interpretation... but overall, this was probably my favorite!
14- Least favorite mission in either? Why?
Literally any with walker missions. I'D RATHER DIE... this isn't about you iokath stompy droid... you're special and ily <3
15- Is your Commander successful because they're skilled? Or are they perhaps just really lucky?
While luck, naturally, occasionally comes into play, Merrow makes his way vastly by his own skill. Of my non-Jedi/Sith characters, he's the most capable of dealing with Force sensitive opponents. He has the experience to lead and the cleverness to plan ahead, and he's good at forming alliances and making friends by nature of his former life.
16- from our OC's point of view, SoR -> KotET wasn't a fun experience. Did they develop any fears as a result?
Other than a multitude of bad memories to have nightmares about, Merrow didn't develop any fears directly related to this period.
17- AU time! If your Commander wasn't Commander, which of your other OCs would have likely taken their place?
Technically, given how everyone's stories play out, without Merrow there wouldn't be an Alliance--Merrow is the only one of my main 8 in any position to become Alliance Commander. However, if I reworked the stories, either Zeke or Aikiyc would probably be the best fit. They're both capable leaders and some of the strongest Force-sensitives in the galaxy, at the time.
18- Who's someone your Commander hopes they never have to deal with again?
A man called Kordo, who is rotting somewhere in a Republic prison.
19- Does your Commander hold on to/still use any titles they earned before KotET? (Darth Nox/Jedi Battlemaster/Cipher 9/ Wrath/etc.) Or have they completely replaced them with the Commander title?
By nature of the Black Codex, Merrow technically has no association with his former titles. While there are whispers and rumors with his old monikers, there are none he actively uses.
20- Share something, anything at all, you want to share about your Commander that you've not really gotten a chance to share before but really want to!
He gets a felinx, eventually. A massive, fluffy felinx. Her name is Refrigerator, or "Fridge" for short. She's an emotional support animal.
I'm a little late to this, so I don't have anyone specific to tag. If you're interested, consider yourself tagged!

AU where Merrow has wings?
GASPPP OMG wings au BELOVED. wings aus are literally my favorite
I think Merrow would have wings like a gyrfalcon, particularly a white one. this choice is largely aesthetic other than the fact that he’s definitely some sort of bird of prey. that said gyrfalcons can be found in cold environments so fits the Chiss aspect I suppose xD
JUST LOOK AT HOW PRETTY THESE ARE. omfg i have to draw this now

Ask Game
Answering for Merrow!
3. if your character could romance anyone, [...] who would they have romanced?
CRYING SCREAMING THROWING UP
its alright he doesn't die in my version of canon
6. If they switched sides, [...] how much would change about them?
Going dark side would essentially be just removing Merrow's sense of compassion, which... would not be great, considering his resources and how good he is at uh, killing people. (though I'll admit an amoral spymaster au sounds INCREDIBLY fun...)
7. Did they name their ship, or is it just referred to as "the ship"?
I like the name Phantom that the agent ship comes with. Fits well!
10. Have their light side/dark side actions changed over time?
Earlier on, Merrow was more likely to choose dark sided options. His character arc ended up taking him almost entirely light sided, though.
14. Does their past/background effect how they react to things?
More than he'd care to admit.

OC Name Meaning
Tagged by @grandninjamasterren :)
Rules: google and post the meaning of your oc’s name (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! Bonus if you can find something for their last name too.
I’ll do a few, just for fun!
Firstly of course is my Chiss Imperial Agent Naiim’erro’wren—or Merrow, for short. I was in a huge mermaid phase when I first made him, and “merrow” is a term for mermaid in Irish folklore. I just liked how it sounded and smashed on the first and last parts of his name to make it appropriately Chiss-like. (Ironically, Merrow avidly dislikes swimming xD)
My human/cyborg Sith Warrior’s name is Aikiyc, which is actually a word in Mando’a. This decision ties into his backstory. I recall I had several options I was choosing from, but I liked how Aikiyc sounded the most.
Lastly, an OC who’s not from my main swtor 8 but has notable significance in my version of events: Tyra Tabreen, a Togruta Jedi turned SIS agent. Found out in doing this that “Tyra” means “of Tyre, the God of Battle”. Not sure if Tabreen means anything; I made it up and decided it sounded nice with her first name.
Thanks for the tag!
Tagging: @imp-agent , @yarpell , @wilvarin-chan , @mimabeann , @droukhunter , and whoever else might want to participate!

👀 talk to me about the blorbos from your brain
HAPPILY. backstory time
also all of my ocs except my jedi miraculously have angsty backstories. smiles. (putting stuff under a cut so i don't clog my dash heehee)
Merrow was born a single child to an upper middle class Chiss family, but in a visit to relatives towards the outer planets of Ascendancy space the shuttle was attacked by pirates. Merrow's father was killed, and Merrow himself was kidnapped. This all happened when he was 10, and he only returned to the Ascendancy around the time he turned 18. This abnormal upbringing is a partial cause for his rather... eccentric personality as compared to most Chiss.
Levissen and Skyler are siblings, Sky six years older than his sister. They were both born on Corellia to a CorSec official, their mother, and a retired Republic fighter pilot, their father. However, in an attack on a CorSec building that would kill their parents, the siblings got separated. Sky, then ten years old, was found by security officers on scene, while Levi, then four, was found to be missing. (She was later found by a grizzled old bounty hunter with a soft spot for children, who took her in as his own). Skyler, on the other hand, distraught over the loss of his family and resenting the foster care system, ran away; he was eventually noticed by a pirate gang after stealing one of their speeders and the captain decided she wanted him in her crew. (He ended up breaking away from them under less than friendly terms years later and striking out on his own. While most of the crew was now in custody, one captain remained loose and continued to track down her traitorous charge...)
Aikiyc was born Sorei Bryn, a bold and rowdy Mandalorian child. His strong connection with the Force was evident from a young age, and while his parents never particularly encouraged it they also never discouraged it, seeing it as only another weapon in their son's arsenal. But his Force sensitivity was noticed by Sith, and while Mando children were normally off limits due to the Empire's relationship with the Mandalorians, Sorei's remarkable strength proved too tantalizing to ignore. Sorei and his father were ambushed when Sorei's mother was away, and Sorei's father was killed and Sorei himself taken. From there, the obstinate Mandalorian boy was battered and broken through pain and indoctrination until he was compliant enough to be trained. The boy chose a name of his own as his birthname faded to a foggy memory: Aikiyc.
Sunni grew up with a relatively normal life within the Ascendancy, living comfortably with their family. However, the emergence of their Force sensitivity caused... certain issues. Their uncle, a lieutenant within the CEDF, covertly smuggled them out of the Ascendancy when they were 18, and Sunni began traveling the galaxy. However, less than a year later they were captured and enslaved by the Empire, and remained their until their Force sensitivity was noted by a passing Sith overseer.
Bry'a was born to an Imperial family on Ziost. His parents secretly sympathized with the Republic, though they were careful to keep this hidden. Still, when their son began to show signs of Force sensitivity--not enough to be a Sith, but enough to gain attention--the Paellons scrambled to get their son out of the Empire, with or without them. Bry'a was smuggled alone to Republic space when he was 14.
Zeke was a model Jedi trainee. His parents willingly surrendered him to the Jedi when he was just a baby, but already capable of flinging toys across the room with his mind. He was an intelligent and hard-working student, always asking the instructors questions; though introverted, he was generally well-liked by his peers for his kind disposition and willingness to help. He and his future master, Orgus Din, first met when Zeke was 15; however, this being the same year as the Sacking of Coruscant, Orgus was emotionally incapable of taking on a Padawan for obvious reasons, despite noticing the beginnings of a Force bond between him and this Mirialan boy. Orgus would officially take Zeke as his Padawan a few years later.
Emersyn had a typical apprenticeship under Yuon Par. They were an exceptional student, whose interests aligned well with the more intellectually-driven Yuon. They were knighted after the Sacking of Coruscant and continued their work as a full-fledged Knight, specializing in diplomacy and research. When their class story begins, they meet Yuon on Tython as a peer, called in to aid her archeological studies.
