Character Highlights: Lightfur
Lightfur came to RidgeClan as a kitten, brought by her kittypet father to give her a better life. She was RidgeClans’s second medicine cat and was trained by Freezeclaw. She never had a proper apprentice.

(Don’t be expecting too much art in the future lol. It’ll be quite spare)
Lightfur is curious, determined, and a bit awkward. She has trouble explaining things to others in simpler terms, especially if it’s something that interests her like herbs or birds. Her mate, Hazelpelt, has sat through many herb explanations, but she usually leaves them having internalized none of the information.
For her, becoming a medicine cat was the only path. She loved learning about the world around her, and the idea of cultivating plants, harvesting them, and then applying her knowledge to help others was greatly appealing. It took a lot of begging for her to get Freezeclaw to mentor her. He insisted he wouldn’t be able to train a medicine cat; he’d been a warrior too long and didn’t know quite enough. She said he was the only mentor for her though, not a BoulderClan or TawnyClan one.
She takes her duties very seriously. She received her medicine cat name and not long after Freezeclaw died, but she didn’t pause to mourn him. Not because she didn’t love him, but because Freezeclaw would never expect her to slow down just for him. She showed her grief by throwing herself fully into her duties, hardly taking any time to sleep.
However, she was forced to rest after a landslide broke her leg. She feels very embarrassed about this time in her life, but this is when she made some of the closest friends in her life.
The Clan welcomed a loner who had a base knowledge of herbs. Tanglefur arrived to the Clan with two kits, renamed Wishkit and Rubblekit. Not long after taking up medicine cat duties, Tanglefur began training her daughter, Wishpaw, as a medicine cat with Lightfur’s help. Lightfur appreciated Tanglefur’s gentleness. Before, a grouchy Freezeclaw would keep cats out, and then, Lightfur spent most of her time outside of the den so most cats rarely saw her, but Tanglefur, with her soft voice and motherly ways, brought a warm and inviting atmosphere to the medicine cat den.
Hazelpelt was one of those cats who was drawn by that atmosphere. She’d felt outcasted for her heritage and took to hanging around the medicine cat den to avoid other warriors. Lightfur talked to Hazelpelt practically every day, prattling on about whatever caught her eye or something she found interested. All the RidgeClan warriors were expecting an announcement that they became mates, which came once Lightfur’s leg healed well enough for her to leap onto the Narrowledge and announce it herself.
Lightfur died in a BoulderClan raid on RidgeClan camp. She’d rushed onto the battlefield with a bundle of herbs in her mouth and was struck down by a BoulderClan warrior to prevent her from healing her injured clanmates.
To all cats who knew her, Lightfur was a lovely cat, who, while she could be awkward and chatter bird, showed her just how much she cared in her actions and words. You’d find your nest replaced with fresh moss or wake up from a nap with a fresh piece of prey beside you.
She died helping others, just the way a medicine cat should go.

OC-tober Day 11 - City
@oc-growth-and-development
Missed yesterday since I honestly couldn’t come up with a good way to incorporate memes into a warriors universe. So here’s day 11!
Badgerfoot was scared of the Twolegplace, even if he wouldn’t admit it to Coyotepaw. Mousepad had been let to stay back, learning from the elders of SkyClan, while he had to go and learn about their strangest way of life. He wanted to learn more about the elders. Briskwind and Lightfur, the only two cats in the whole Clan without either an animal or plant in their name, must have fascinating stories to tell.
So for now, he trudged along behind Coyotepaw and Monarchflutter in the Twolegplace. Both of them seemed confident and happy. They even let a Twoleg pet them, for StarClan’s sake!
“We’re going to the Apprenticeplace, so you have to look a bit more upbeat than that,” Monarchflutter explained to Badgerfoot. “The kits and apprentices of the Twopaws there won’t lend us their shares unless we look friendly.”
“I’m not friendly,” Badgerfoot growled. Coyotepaw laughed. “What’s so funny?”
“You seemed perfectly friendly in camp,” the brown tom said. “It’s only now that we have to be with the Twopaws that you’re so grumpy.”
“Twolegs back at home aren’t this nice,” Badgerfoot grumbled. “They chase you around and set dogs on you. They don’t even help with the badgers, anymore. That’s why Hazelmist is so important to the Clan.”
“We’re here,” Monarchflutter announced. The Apprenticeplace was a massive, sprawling Twoleg den. Badgerfoot didn’t think he’d ever be able to learn everything about it if he tried, but Coyotepaw and Monarchflutter split up right away, heading for specific Twolegs. Monarchflutter milled around outside, accepting offerings in a crafted sheepswool bag that another Twoleg had made for her. Coyotepaw pranced inside. Badgerfoot thought for a moment, and followed Coyotepaw.
“Should we be in here?” Badgerfoot asked, quietly.
Coyotepaw nodded. “The Twopaws don’t mind, as long as we don’t disturb their training sessions. But you... you should probably go back outside.”
Badgerfoot got out of there as quickly as he could.

Snippets: Melting Snow
Word Count: 377
Characters: Lightfur, Freezeclaw
Lightfur has a duty she must complete.
cw: animal death
—————
Lightfur gave Freezeclaw too many poppy seeds.
It was mercy, wasn’t it, to feel no pain as you passed. Freezeclaw had been laid up in a nest for moons, refusing to see any cats for fear of spreading his cough. His dry wheezing and hacking kept her up for a whole season. She could hear the rattle in his lungs each night no matter how tightly she pressed her paws against her head.
He had told her that medicine cats rarely got sick from the patients they treat. That StarClan shielded them from coughs so that they could devote themselves fully to healing without the intrinsic fear of disease that would make most cats falter.
She was the only one he allowed near him because of that belief, but she knew it couldn’t have been true. If it was, she wouldn’t be treating his cough in the first place.
They ran out of lungwort a moon ago, and despite her best efforts, their territory was barren of the valuable herb.
Sometimes a medicine cat has to make a difficult choice. When a warrior is sure to die, it’s our duty to ensure they pass in the easiest way. There is no honor in needless suffering. He told her watching as Brindlecloud comforted a dying Sedgepool.
     It was a similar sight.
Had Freezeclaw’s age always showed like this? When she thought of him, she always knew him as the large, broad-shouldered tom with a sharp tongue but soft heart, but that wasn’t what lied in the moss nest before her. It was a frail creature with patchy fur that came out in scattered clumps still left in the nest. His eyes were yellowed by jaundice, and his dull pelt hung over his bones like moss left out to dry.
It was mercy she reminded herself.
She shook out the entire poppy head before him. He gazed at them feverishly but with a clarity he hadn’t expressed in days. He knew what she was doing. He lapped them up slowly. She wished it would just be over already.
Once finished, he tilted his head into his moss, fatigued, and she left to collect rosemary and lavender. She couldn’t allow the stench of sickness to loom over his vigil.

Snippets: A Talk in the Apprentice Den
Word Count: 221 Characters: Lightfur, Dappleface
Lightpaw’s sister has a problem. Sometimes a short remedy for the symptoms is the only thing a medicine cat can provide.
Notes: Dapplepaw is referred to with she/her pronouns and as sister. At this point, Lightpaw isn’t aware that Dapplepaw is a trans tom and still refers to him as his assumed gender.
—————     “Bugstar was telling Freezeclaw about how you skipped out on training.” Lightpaw said to break the silence in the den.
Dapplepaw shifted in her nest, not bothering to untuck her paws from where they rested beneath her long-furred chest. She didn’t respond, not even a hum or exhale of acknowledgment, and if she hadn’t moved, Lightpaw would’ve thought she was asleep.
“Freezeclaw said it’s because you used to be a kittypet. That’s why you’re so lazy.” She continued.
Dapplepaw peeked open one angry eye. “You’re a kittypet too, Lightpaw.”
     “But I’m not lazy.”
“I’m not lazy either.” Dapplepaw huffed and closed her eyes.
“Then why didn’t you come to training?” She pressed.
Dapplepaw growled and shifted her paws out from under her. “Why do you care?”
Lightpaw looked down at her moss nest. “Dad was sad when he heard you didn’t go.”
Dapplepaw paused. Her gaze was forced to the side by shame, and her tail fidgeted guiltily. It reminded Lightpaw of how Dapplepaw looked when Bramblewhisker scolded her for trying to sneak out of camp.
“You should go to training.” Lightpaw mewed.
     “I know.”
“Dad sacrificed a lot to take us here.”
     “I know.”
     “…”
“I’ll go to training and apologize to Bugstar.”
     “And dad?”
     “And dad.”
     “Alright, thank you… goodnight.”
     “Goodnight.”
And the den fell into silence once again.

Snippets: Before and Now
Characters: Freezeclaw, Lightpaw(fur)
Word Count: 509
Freezeclaw reflects on the differences between his warrior past and his current medicine cat role.
“Oi, keep up!” Freezeclaw snapped. The fur on his neck prickled with annoyance as Lightpaw stopped to sniff yet another useless flower. She’d only been his apprentice for a few sunrises and already was getting under his pelt with her incessant curiosity.
Lightpaw pulled her nose from the dew-speckled petals of a wildflower and hurriedly padded over to him with her tail held high. He was about to remind her to keep her tail down or else possibly be spotted by an intruding enemy warrior, but he remembered with a pang that he was a medicine cat now. Any warrior that encountered him knew to keep their claws sheathed or face StarClan’s wrath for hurting one of their chosen. His whiskers twitched in amusement at the thought; before, warriors wanted nothing more than to test their mettle against him and learn the hard way why he earned the suffix -claw. He would to go to gatherings and revel in the new scars littering his enemy’s pelts carved by his claws. Now, his claws and teeth were only used with the most delicate touch to remove fragile stems and leaves. StarClan how he’d fallen…
Lightpaw looked up at him with her wide eyes. He could practically see the question on her tongue. Her muzzle twitched like there was a live mouse in there, and she had to keep it closed or risk it escaping.
He raised an eyebrow in tacit permission for her to ask. If she didn’t do it now, he reasoned, she would just get more distracted by it later.
“What was so funny?” She blurted. At his confused expression, she continues awkwardly, “You looked like you were gonna laugh. I wanted to know why.”
StarClan save me from curious apprentices, he thought but couldn’t ignore the affection that bloomed in his chest.
“If you must know,” He drawled, “I was thinking about how at this rate we’ll never see the Moonhollow.”
Her ears perked in interest. “Wait, that’s where we’re going? Oh please can we go!” She begged, her paws picking up dust in her excitement.
He chortled. “If you want to go, you’ve got to start walking.”
She bounded ahead, white tail high as an aspen tree, no care in the world where she put her paws in her haste. He padded after her, calling for her to slow down. It wasn’t long before she slipped on a loose stone, and he couldn’t hold back his laughter this time. She pouted but picked herself off the ground.
She was reckless, air-headed, and a bit awkward, but she was also earnest, eager-to-learn, and determined. He nudged her with his tail. “Gonna let a little tumble slow you down?” He asked cheekily.
“No!” She mewed stubbornly. Still streaked with dirt, she took off in a sprint.
“Watch out StarClan. You’ve no idea who you’ve picked.” He said under his breath before running after her. “Don’t fall again!”
“I won’t!” She called back before immediately tripping once again.
Apprentices… He thought with an amused purr running to her side.

The two elders of RiftClan! These two old dudes are best friends and enjoy sharing in the peace of the elder’s den, and can’t wait for Snowspiral (Lightfur’s sister and Slightspring’s mate) to join them.
- Lightfur is a former fighter. Once stern, short-tempered and very rough-and-tumble, he’s now very tired and just short-tempered. He enjoys frightening apprentices with his stories, and giving them good advice when needed.
- Slightspring is a former hunter who retired due to his progressing arthritis. He is content to spend his days basking in the sunlight that reaches into the cave in the afternoon, sharing tongues with Snowspiral and their children, and regaling kits with tales of hawk hunts.
And thus concludes the RiftClan cats! Now all that’s left are some loner bands and kittypets 👀

Note
who is your most battle scarred cat?
who is your oldest cat?
who is your favorite and least favorite
(sorry if any of these have been asked i'm on mobile and its hard to navigate lol )
Most battle-scarred: would probably come down to Wolfshadow, Tuftear, Halfskip, or Lightfur! The most scarred cat is Ruepetal but most of those are from an accident, not battle.
Oldest: within the story, the oldest cat is Mintmoth at 139 moons! In a meta sense, my oldest oc is Jaystorm, who was my first Warriors character some six or seven years ago.
My favorites are Fernsplash, Larkslip, Lilystream, Strikenose, Fleetfox, Cindershock, Slatesun, and Fawnstreak. I don't really have a least favorite? Just characters I wish I could write better or expand on more. I guess my least favs are Smokestorm and Starklight. Or Brightsun.
Thanks for sending this in anon!!
