I have a headcanon in Sofia The First that there are two types of sorcerers out there.

This is somewhat backed up by the fact that there is a sorcerers' island in the Mystic Isles.

There are two types of sorcerers, born sorcerers and learned sorcerers. Both require study to hone their spells and magic, and require wands, but born sorcerers have a natural intonation for magic. The biggest difference between them is that one has magic in their blood, and the other does not. The one with magic in their blood can perform minor spells using only their hands, without the need for wands, while the learned sorcerer can only perform spells with the help of wands and magical artifacts.

Cedric is an example of born sorcerer, due to the long line of sorcerers in his family, and due to the fact that he can perform minor spells with his hands.

I personally believe that it is not possible to perform major spells without a wand. The wand is a magical artifact that has the ability to measure the amount of used magic, and most spells only work with a wand, but it is easy to do small illusions or simple levitation spells with your hands, for example. However, only born sorcerers can do this, as their very bodies contain magic, simply put, their hands can serve as less potent magic wands, better saying. And because sorcerers have an island in the Mystic Isles, I believe that the born sorcerers can in some way count as magical creatures, such as mermaids, unicorns and elves, but they have non-visible characteristics, and appear to be ordinary humans. They are indeed still humans, but with a bit of magic in their blood, it's not like a whole diferent species, calm down (much like my autism lol I couldn't hold this one back)

Learned sorcerers, on the other way, are ordinary humans that decided that they wanted to study magic and turned into sorcerers. They don't have a big difference from born sorcerers, but they can't perform spells without a wand. They have the knowledge, but they don't have magic in their blood to use their hands as wands. For example, Sofia can grow up and decide to be a sorcerer, but she won't be able to perform any spells without a wand at hand because she doesn't have the same blood that Cedric and his people do. She can still be hired as a royal sorceress, yes, but the royal that hired her needs to know that without a wand, she won't be able to do anything. It's the knowledge that counts.

Based on @shychick-52 fanfic "The Master Wand" I also have the personal headcanon that born sorcerers live longer due to the magic in their blood. I personally believe that their average lifetime lasts for less than 200 years, and they have a midlife appearance for most of their lifetime (they appear to be in their 50s for a long period of time) and their aging time lasts longer, which means that they can appear to be 30 until they are 50, and 50 until they are 120, and 70 until they are 180. They retire "early" due to the retirement laws of ordinary humans, but they remain active people for a long time after that, like Merlin, Goodwyn and Winifred (Cedric's parents). And just like Shy, I also believe that the oldest sorcerers that ever lived were around 600-700 years old.

If born sorcerers happen to fall in love with an ordinary human or a learned sorcerer, it's most likely that they will watch their lover die of old age and stay alive for other 100 years. Unless their lover is Gothel or Shuriki lmao. Good news for you guys that love my oc Aurora and her shipp with Cedric.....

And they watch most of their common human friends die too. U-huh. Hope you sleep well with this information in your head tonight. (Or you won't mind about it cuz it's just a headcanon)

There is no big difference from born and learned sorcerers, except that born sorcerers are half magical creatures, but it's invisible, and they're not treated as such. Like lactose intolerant people and lactose tolerant people lol

…I did not intend for them to all have black hair but I think it’s funny. Of course we have the one and only Usagi. We got Jim.. who to be honest, I might change his age to be older (late twenties, maybe early thirties), because thinking more about his story… this mf in my opinion would not be in his early twenties. Maurice…. Anyways, Clancy’s hat was a nightmare to figure out but I think I like how it turned out. Also, new boi! His name is Jules Allis, based on Julius from the Runaway Brain short with a hint of Julius the Cat from the Alice Comedies.

He’s an experiment that escaped from his creator and would find his way to Night Raven College. I feel like while bunking at Ramshackle he was disguised in makeup around the others to look more “alive”, because Jules is absolutely terrified of being sent back to his creator. He’s overall a big cuddle gentle giant… with an equally big appetite, take that how you will ; )

I intentionally made front-facing Alex look uncanny because this man can’t human lol. It’s also the reason he has two differently designed eyes, .Giffard stares into your soul.. it comforts him to know you’re still here : ). Camille Dreadfox is based on Don Karnage from Talespin… I love him dearly. Camille is Hispanic (like meeee lol) , because that’s what his 2017 Ducktales iteration leaned towards, but like his Talespin counterpart, Camille’s got some French and Italian in him. He’s just as egotistical as Don Karnage… and as much as a goof as him too lol. He’s also got bushy ass eyebrows (He just like me fr 😭😭😭)

Cedar Goodwyn is based on Mr. Cedric from Sofia the First. He’s been held back and is put under a lot of stress by his family. To the point where he actually started getting grey hairs. Like this man is 20 yet he looks like he’s 40 😭. He’s a lot more cocky than he lets on and being put in Diasomnia was his worst nightmare incarnate. (Because yes put the one who messes up his spells frequently in the same dorm as one of the most powerful mages 💀💀💀)

Reynard Raposa’s based on Foxy Loxy from the 2005 Chicken Little…. Yes really. It was a part of my life growing up and it’s a guilty pleasure movie of mine. Reynard being sorted into Pomefiore is a play on Foxy Loxy’s fate in the movie. Plus I thought it’d be super funny if Reynard was the type to constantly get on Vil’s nerves since he (Reynard) is not afraid to openly show a slight rebellion to Pomefiore’s ways. Him being a more chill, nice bully came from Foxy Loxy’s promotional video, how Foxy feels about Chicken Little is the same as how Reynard feels toward Usagi/The MC. To quote one of her lines but to fit Reynard “Bless their heart they’re such a loser that you just love em, okay? It’s a big zero but I put a one ahead of it so I give em a ten~” Like, he’ll tease you but it’s all in good fun and he won’t really go too far with it. Also… don’t talk to him about his braces.

He was actually the one who helped me settle on Reynard’s last name since I was dissatisfied with the old one. Once again dude ty so much ^^. Now this… is actually practice for a bigger project I’m working on, I’ll keep that to myself for now ; )

As for the characters.

Nakoda’s always fun to draw, and now I think I’ve finally settled on how I draw his face scales. Billy is also, as usual, a joy to draw. Elias… I’ve drawn him so many times that I can do it in my sleep 😂. The perks of being the favorite. I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO DRAW RENO’S HAIR HOLY SHIT 😭🎊 I am not kidding, that’s how not used to drawing short hair I am 💀 James is finally in something normal for once since the two times I’ve featured him was for a meme and a shitpost 😭. Now he can look like his regular handsome self. Smitty is adorable and I care him very much ^^. Maelstrom was a character where I felt intimidated to draw him but slowly got the hand of. I think it was the hair but it was mostly the combed back bangs or whatever that style’s called. Theodore is another case where the two times I’ve drawn him… were for silly stuff 😭, figured to draw him in his natural glory before he curses my ass lol…. Grit… that look I drew him with, idk how I pulled it off but I really like it

So, I have answers to the reason he was kind of obsessed with the Amulet, and it has to do with two OCs I'm developing.

One of them is a teacher at Hexley who is an Avalorian refugee who finished her potions studies under Wu Chang after being exiled around 16ish from Avalor. Her name is Rosa Calderón (I know, that is so very original a name for a potions teacher.) While she never outright reveals where she was from originally, she does teach Cedric to use music to control his magic, and she tells him fable stories about Avalor without revealing the name of the country. His class is the first class she ever teaches, and their like gradeschool-ish age when she's like 23 or so.

She ends up sort of filling the role of the older sister he lost.

The other OC is one of Cedric's Master Fionn's (his teacher from the Sorcerer's Secret flashback who I have given a name and a full backstory to) siblings in-law who specializes in Enchanted Jewelry.

The illuminated text of Enchanted artifacts, which I assume is the same one the Comb is in as well, ends up being a graduation gift from said sort of adopted aunt/uncle. (This character does not yet have a name. I don't actually even know which of Fionn's two siblings they're married to yet.)

As for his feelings about using The Amulet to take over the Kingdom and its association with Tilly:

So, actually, part of what inspires him to take over the Kingdom in the first place is his anger at the memories of how she was treated. It wasn't just about him. In part, it was about her too. My exact note on that is this:

"When he sees that page again as Wormwood seems to indicate taking over Enchancia, he points out that they can’t use the Amulet because Tilly lost it and it’s gone. It’s a fraction of a moment that Cedric feels bad about taking over Enchancia. But, then he thinks about what Roland I did to Tilly, then thinks about everything she had stripped from her. He thinks about how much better things would have been if she had felt safe enough to be Queen, and his resolve deepens. He’ll make everyone pay. His fists will be iron for people who deserve it, and there are many who do. They’ll pay. They’ll all pay for hurting them. For hurting her. For hurting him. For crushing the lives of all the people they saw as beneath them. He’ll rule with fists of iron and with an iron will. Everyone who mocked him will bow to him. Actually, anyone who has mocked anyone will bow to them. The weak are going to crush the mighty like a tidal wave."

So, I think the deeper into the obsession he goes. The more he loses touch with the reality of it all. There are reasons for that. I've touched on them briefly in a couple of fics in the series so far.

But, yeah, at first, he thinks he's doing the right thing. Then, by the time we get to the series, it's just about doing the thing. He does care if it's the right or wrong thing anymore. He just has to do it. He has committed to it so it has to be done even when he doesn't really want it anymore.

Again, there are reasons for that.

As for the way I see young Cedric, I see him a little differently.

In the next chapter of "In the Flares," I've set up a little bit more of Winifred's backstory. I HC that she's from Corinthia. (Which I think I saw someone else in the fandom also mention they thought might have a Greek influence. So, kudos to that. I also think so.)

But, the way I've set up her and Goodwyn's dynamic is that she was around all the time, and he was just gone. Most of Cedric and Cordelia's young life, Goodwyn was just *gone* except when he stood in places of prominence on special occasions.

So, when things happened to Cordelia and Cedric both, Winifred just kind of picked up the pieces for both of them. But, as Cordelia started to emulate her father more, especially after The Incident, Cedric just sort of withdrew.

He would have seen what happened to people without power, and he wasn't about to challenge power. So, he became reclusive.

Tilly, I think, is the one who fought on Cedric's behalf. She made him stand up for himself in a limited capacity. But, when she left, that's when it was all over. He just stopped talking or trying all together.

So, it's not that I don't think he wanted the friendship with Roland II, but I think he was deeply afraid of everyone after The Incident. So, he likely retreated.

Part of the reason I think he failed so often isn't even because he *couldn't* do things or did them wrong. Cedric just straight up didn't do them. He froze and then bolted.

If you're familiar with the infamous debate scene in "The Princess Diaries," where Mia just yeets from the classroom?

It's not that Mia is not incredibly capable. She is! She just doesn't trust herself. So, she sells herself out before she tries, and then she runs.

It's like that.

The youthful Cedric that I imagine freezes and then flees before he can say anything to anyone.

He needed Roland to fight for their friendship because Cedric is too careful. He knows he has no power in the dynamic once The Incident has happened (if he ever had any at all.) When Roland doesn't fight for it, Cedric realizes just how little their friendship was valued despite how much he poured into it (and would continue to if he were given the chance.)

I think, for a time, Cedric even kind of tries to reason it all out. But, after a while, it just becomes so unfair that he can't understand why no one will help him. The more he struggles the less people want to help him, and the more he flounders.

Winifred is his one constant, and I think that's why she's the one character (prior to the birth of Calista, and Sofia's introduction into his life) that he really loves. They strike me as having a very similar relationship to Belle and Maurice. She's the castle eccentric, and he's deeply devoted to her despite what everyone else says.

I do think Cedric found it easier to go against Goodwyn's wishes but, when he did it, he did it in subtler ways.

Cedric did it through what he studied at Hexley. (Dad's not going to care. He doesn't read my letters anyway. He told me I have no prospects. So, as long as I don't flunk out, who cares what I study? Might as well be something I enjoy.)

Cedric did it in sort of getting himself adopted by people Goodwyn wouldn't approve of. (As long as I don't completely leave Mummy, I don't care what Dad thinks about the people who care about me.)

Cedric's rebellions were, for the most part, relatively small. There were a few times where he felt like justice was really on the line that he spoke up, but those weren't for himself.

So, yeah. I don't think Cedric fought much for anything. He just kind of existed.

Amulet of Avalor questions and plotholes

Cedric grew up with Tilly and Roland, soooo...

...Did Cedric know that Tilly had the amulet before Sofia?

In the pilot, when he saw Sofia had the amulet and learned from her that Roland gave it to her, he was genuinely shocked that the amulet had been in the palace all those years after he'd been studying and obsessing over it for so long.

Maybe Tilly acquired it after she left the castle to become an adventurer (I can't remember if it said). Or if she had it as a youth and Cedric knew she had it, maybe he thought she'd taken the amulet with her?

...Come to think of it, why did Tilly leave the amulet behind? And why didn't Elena choose Tilly as the one to save her, especially since Tilly was also a Storykeeper? I hc Elena didn't send Sofia the dream/visions that led her to Avalor to set Elena free- which happened in s3- until she was absolutely sure Sofia was the right one, and Sofia had obviously proven herself by then... so, how did Tilly presumably fail to prove herself?

And the decades Elena was in the amulet, it fell into many other princesses' hands. Why were none of them chosen to be the one to save Elena? And how did the amulet even get acquired by so many other princesses?

Also, the amulet was in the castle's jewel room when Sofia arrived at the palace. Roland had gone in there to look for a something special to gift Sofia as a welcome gift. Elena got Roland's attention by letting the amulet sparkle or light up, or whatever, so he could see it. But how did Elena even know about Sofia's arrival and that Roland was looking for a welcome gift for her... unless he was talking to himself/thinking out about it while trying to decide?

HI BABES I RETURN WITH YET ANOTHER BATCH OF SELF INDULGENT TWST OCS ;DDD

Sofia the first is getting a spinoff and the rats are ABSOLUTELY LOVING THIS ANNOUNCEMENT therefore, twisted from Cedric the sorcerer i bring you, Regulus Goodwyn!

He's originally put in diasomnia along with his friend Artem Mugwort, with whom he's close enough to consider his brother, (Artem is twisted from Wormwood, Cedric's raven familiar) He's initially proud of this, since he figures it reflects his abilities as a magic user. However so far despite his best efforts he hasn't been able to live up to his family's expectations while in diasomnia

After certain events who's details I haven't worked out yet (most likely during chapter 7) Regulus realises he's interested more in the opportunities and curriculum provided by pomefiore than diasomnia and expresses interest in transfering dorms. Artem is not willing to transfer as well and tells Regulus he no longer wants to be friends with him if he goes trough with it.

Attention Sofia the Fandom! Beta readers wanted!!!

Hello!

Just thought I would let you all know about my current project, which is essentially a fifth season of ‘Sofia The First’.

I am in the outline stage right now, which I will admit has been challenging due to a few factors, but I think I finally have a general idea of where I want to go and what I want to do.

As the title says, I’m asking for beta readers. Once I finished my outlines, I’m going to start with the actual writing. I hope to be finished with my first story within the next few weeks, with the next two to follow shortly after. After which, I will send off to my beta readers. I’m asking that you be able to check for grammar, spelling and any continuity errors that may exist. also to ensure that the characters do not go OOC, or at least not drastically so.

Anyone interested in being a beta reader can message me.

As for my stories themselves? Well, here’s an idea of what to expect!

We’ll get to see the Wicked Nine again! PLUS THE VILLAINS!!! Because let’s face it; that was some lost opportunity there!!!

Prisma is going to be featured and play a significant role, because seriously; she had lots of potential as a character. Yes, it’s a redemption arc and it will NOT BE EASY but most isn’t. It will be much harder for her than it was for Cedric, that’s for sure.

We’ll meet the rest of Prisma’s family, namely her parents. The mom was ESPECIALLY fun to write.

Sofia, Amber and James start at their new schools and face new challenges. Including a classmate that grows increasingly hostile towards Sofia, much to her confusion.

How Goodwyn and Winifred met. (Because seriously... HOW did THAT happen?!)

THE ORDER OF THE WAND RETURNS

We’re going to learn a LOT about life in the Mystic Isles, especially on the Isle of Crystals.

Azurine’s character will be explored. Not all is necessarily perfect with her, either.

Cedric... dates. Yes, you read right. Our favorite sorcerer is FINALLY diving into the dating pool. With floaties. It will be fun... for us ;)

Prisma makes a very unusual, yet very special friend. They are an OC of mine and are crucial to her arc. (As a note, this OC is solely responsible for helping me get the ball rolling on this project. You have no idea how thrilled I am and I absolutely ADORE him and hope you will, too)

Another OC of mine that will play a significant background role, but will make their presence very much felt throughout the season. I will say, they share a very close connection with the Amulet of Avalor. (Nope, not Elena or any of the princesses. )

went a little overboard w/ this one ....

glen would be formerly a part of a crew of magical girls and somehow miraculously survived being wiped out w the rest of the team by the big baddie. used up all their power to hold them back and burnt out of magic / retired as a result. harry would be the team's mascot / magic critter companion! has a human alt form (like luna from sailor moon)

in the process realized glen as a magical girl would just be sayaka miki haha
