“So, little fireball, tell me about your first few weeks,” Claus probed as he rolled an onion down the kitchen island in his niece’s direction. Frieda had been gazing into the middle-distance, and it was almost subconscious how her hand pulled it onto her cutting board.

She took a breath. “Fine, I suppose. It feels a lot different from my old schools.”

“It’d be different no matter what. You high-schoolers like to act older, you’re all paying attention to things more.” When Frieda muttered something under her breath in response, Claus rose his eyebrows. “Speak up.”

“I said maybe I don’t want them all paying attention right now,” she said in time with a decisive cut of her knife. Claus scoffed in surprise.

“....Don’t tell me the great Frieda Vonnegut - of all people - is acting shy? Who are you and what have you done with my niece!”

Frieda lowered her knife and quickly moved around her uncle to dump her finished product in with the rest of their ingredients, speaking as she went and becoming more heated with every word. “You haven’t heard some of these impossible families - when’s the last time someone turned their nose at us as ‘New Money’ to your face? Because I heard it five times just today, still calling us temporary. They’re so air-headed, they could be doing so much better with their time.”

“And when has that stopped you before? When you were twelve you told a boy you’d ‘flambe him’ when he insulted your dad.” He watched Frieda bite her lip and turn away. “Don’t smother yourself now, Frieda. You’re too clever, too proud for that...What’s wrong?”

It was a short pause, but the silence felt far too long in the moment. Until a hand slapped the counter out of frustration and, suddenly, his niece was facing him again, spiteful and glowing and present.

“What’s wrong is I’m alone! Japan isn’t the same as being a bullet train away from home! And forget how I’m still screwing up the language every other sentence in front of a generation that looks for anything to judge - God knows I’m the same. Why did they even send me here?! What do they want me to do?! Claus, I’m flying blind - but I need you to know that I am trying!”

He watched her for awhile, waited for the sharp sting of her yells to fade away into the air, because her rage is always like a bullet. Slowly, Claus approached with arms open, and she easily found her way into the hug.

“Trying is enough, fireball, I promise,” he eventually let out. “Speak into existence how clever and brilliant you are and soon enough you’ll have a crowd wrapped around your finger.”

She scoffed into his shoulder. “I don’t have any other choice. Give me a little more time, they’ll regret their choices.” She paused in thought. “You know, the Suoh boy is in my class. His Ootori sidekick, too.”

Claus chuckled and looked down at her. “Ootori? What’s the kid of our newest partner like?”

“Don’t ask me yet. I can’t quite figure him out.”

💞 Naomi Kitani ( @kendelias )

Frieda would throw down in a second for Naomi and might have already buried a body for all I know. They can both be on massive sad girl shit but the moment they lock onto the other they’ll find a way to toss it aside and cope. The high feminine women not ashamed to display affection for one another. Frieda is used to walls and professionalism and there just isn’t time in the day to be sad - let alone in front of another person - or show people not related in blood that they mean a lot to them, because everything is about dealings. But Naomi is a kind soul to open up that part of Frieda. The Girl Gang in general is an iconic balance of powers.

Frieda would throw down in a second for Arina but she knows she doesn’t have to. This goes out to two classmates who start talking just to realize how much better they are than so many of the others around them. Frieda respects Arina so much because she thinks of her as so strong and that’s one of the first and only friends she made on her own upon getting to Japan. And what a necessary friend she is because someone has to be able to knock Frieda down a peg sometimes. Frieda sees Arina just be able to be laid back sometimes and wishes she could reach that herself. Where Naomi makes Frieda want to be soft, Arina makes her want to shrug off the world, if that makes sense.

💞 Kyoya Ootori

While most of Frieda’s top dynamics are people who bring down her walls with softer emotions and tendencies, Kyoya found the door and walked right through because his mind works in the same way so much of the time. Even with all their friends present, Kyoya and Frieda are allies in the mental games of their lives. As similar as they are, they grow so much by learning that their minds won’t always have the same logic and they can’t assume the other can read their mind after all (cough the breakup cough). They’re rooting for each other, even if they aren’t always saying it (or if they do, it’s through language they know the other understands - the language of business and goals and perfection). Two teens who through each other learn they still have a lot of growing up to do.

💞 Tamaki Suoh

Frieda thinks that if you don’t like Tamaki, then there’s something wrong with you. As many problems as he may cause, this is the boy who reached out his hand and offered her a spot in his found family, right after she was so sure she’d spend the next several years all alone. There’s the camaraderie of being in their empty houses and knowing the other will pick up the phone if needed, or Frieda inviting him over all the time to make any traditional French dishes he’s craving from childhood, and Tamaki going out of his way to introduce her with gusto to so many girls at Ouran that they no longer saw her as a new girl to question and instead someone high up on the food chain to respect. He’s one of her best friends and nothing will ever change that, the beacon of sun in her life.

💞 Claus Vonnegut

Frieda’s uncle exists purely offscreen and in her private life, but she has always been firm with me that Claus is her rock and her biggest cheerleader. He’s more of a caretaker for her than either of her parents and he took it upon himself to make sure Frieda could feel at home no matter where on the planet they may be. Claus is teasing and comforting and honest and I think part of her gravitation towards Tamaki is that he provides a similar style of familial love to what Claus gives. A person who is well aware that her outbursts are out of hatred, but just the easiest way for her to get the words out.

Every day she tries to tell me how she could get away with it. Frieda knows how the world works, knows she has to play the long game. BUT watch her kick this man in the leg and knock him down. Is it because I just watched the Bones episode where a high-heeled shoe did killer damage that the potential of Frieda being a rage-filled stomper won’t leave my head? Yes, absolutely. But her anger issues would really power her through this fight.

8. How does your OC talk/what does your OC’s voice sound like?

Frieda’s words are snappy and powerful and straight to the point. Her voice is pretty similar to her face claim, just uses a different inflection than Abigail’s natural rhythm.

16. What is your OC’s strongest childhood memory? Why and how has that impacted him/her?

“Strongest” is hard because it’s kinda subjective how she could take that... Her instinctual reaction was the first time her parents sat her down to say they were sending her away, that definitely ingrained most of her problems with her mom. But she also said the first time her uncle toured her around a professional kitchen, so we can have a positive and a negative here I guess.

24. Who are the people your OC dislikes/hates?

Her mother, Kyoya’s dad, Tamaki’s grandmother (like legally she must hate those two), Eclair Tonnerre bc how dare she mess with her club, those annoying newspaper guys...she’s petty she could make a longer list if needed but like those are the legit ones lol

32. What subjects did your OC excel at?

Specifically the food side of home ec. style classes, Business, Math, German (duh), Advertising, etc.

40. How does your OC handle grief?

When around others, would definitely lash out even more than usual. Really tries to isolate herself though.

48. What are some of your OC’s vices?

Alcohol becomes one...does her anger and lashing out at others count? I think it happens enough that it should lol.

Reliable, and genuinely so smart, can find a way out of almost any bad situation, incredibly resourceful, and insanely driven.

Like from other people? Let’s see...she picked up pen twirling from Kyoya, and her hair flips have an added Tamaki touch to them over time. And if she finds herself having to throw a punch, watching Honey, Mori, and Arina so much have definitely made her know what a good form should look like alkjfdklad.

72. What is your OC’s favorite kind music (and song if there is one)?

I feel like she has a trend of going for just general pop music and maybe some r&b. It’s not her official character theme, but she really loves “still learning” by halsey.

Frieda has never really put much thought towards dinosaurs, probably the Brachiosaurus?

Yeah, I would say it’s not too hard to push her buttons.

2. how easily does your oc make friends?

Frieda is good at making contacts, not necessarily friends. She just got lucky that so many eccentric people found her to be worth befriending.

3. does your oc go beyond what they have to do or do they usually do just enough work to get by?

It’s 120% all the time, only the best makes it past her radar.

4. is your oc respectful of others?

In her mind, she usually thinks she is being respectful - and in some professional settings she would definitely come off as such, but she can be quite rough and direct and that’s hard to handle if you aren’t prepared ahead of time.

5. is your oc imaginative or more down-to-earth?

I feel like Frieda is more on the imaginative side, but her way of showing that is by just blowing average occurrences way out of proportion.

6. is your oc comfortable with themselves?

That’s a thing she’s sensitive about!! Frieda’s comfortable with herself in general, but gets concerned over what other people see and her own ability to see other people.

7. does your oc plan things and stick to it or do they make it up as their go?

This is her itinerary for the next 3 months and if you mess with it she will manifest inside your home. She plans things out.

8. was their life eventful before the start of the story, or was it more dull?

It was a lot duller and a lot lonelier, even if the overall structure of her life hadn’t changed much, coming to Ouran and meeting the gang cranked up the liveliness of her days.

9. do they have the habit to insult other people?

It’s....it’s all she does...

10. would your oc be described as “the life of the party”?

No...she can have fun at a party and be fun with the right friends, but there’s also the deep part of her that will just scrutinize everything depending on the event.

11. are they critical of others?

Again...it’s all she does...

12. do they like art? what is their favorite type (paintings, songs, fashion, etc)?

She loves paintings and visiting art museums (she inherited my van Gogh obsession and gets a tattoo of Starry Night Over the Rhone). She also loves fashion because...just look at the size of her closet.

13. are they more accepting or more controlling of the people in their life?

Frieda needs to be in control as much as possible (even if that’s not very possible with the friend group she has lol).

14. is your oc a good listener?

Not particularly. She’s really good at listening when it comes to completing a job - because detail is everything in those scenarios, but day-to-day she can get trapped in a mantra of “I’m right, you’re wrong, shut up.” She’ll really try if it’s one of her girls, the results just won’t be perfect.

15. are they opinionated or more willing to change their minds?

I always thought I was an opinionated person...she knocks me out of the park. It’s game over.

16. are they the kind of person who’s always on the defensive?

That’s safe to say, yeah. Does she know what you’re accusing her of yet? No, but she’s still correct.

17. do people like hanging around them? do they have a positive, friendly energy?

...I mean she has such a large and dedicated friend group that they have to like having her around, it’s in their nature, but she is one of the more prickly members of the group if you are new to the dynamics.

18. is your oc a procastinator? if they are, what’s an example of how much?

Oh, no, not at all. It calms her down to get work done.

19. do they tend to panic in certain situations or are they more calm?

Frieda is a calmer person, it’s more so that she gets angry than panicky. It takes something big to get her visibly panicked.

20. are they vengeful?

Yeah, she will find the means to destroy you and your future.

21. what are some skills your oc has a talent for and what are some that they worked for?

She has a great memory when it comes to remembering tasks or objectives, like if you ask her for help on a project she will just start listing steps, orders, and contacts rapid-fire. Frieda’s also a really good cook, but that’s something she learned from her dad and the staff in their restaurants as she grew up.

22. are they more socially awkward or socially confident?

She’s confident, she knows how to play the game. She was way more awkward and shy when she first moved to Japan because she felt like a fish out of water.

23. what is something really dumb that irritates your oc a lot?

Instant coffee. She loves Tamaki, she loves Haruhi, but she can’t stand the taste of that stuff and it hurts every time Tamaki tells her to order more.

24. do they tend to see the good in people?

I think, deep down, she can. She’s been taught instead to see what good people can do for her, and she can struggle with people and emotional instances, but I feel like Frieda has a very good track record for subconsciously reading someone. It manifests more as seeing when some people have bad intentions rather than good ones.

25. what does it take for your oc to trust someone?

For some reason, this is a hard one to answer. I suppose her subconscious vibe-check I just alluded to comes into play. But also, if you do something good for her, she’ll payback with something good for you, if that makes sense?

26. do they have a lot of mood swings?

Yes. Some days (or just conversations) you really don’t know what you’re gonna get.

27. do they like to be the center of attention or do they prefer to be in the background?

She is more than happy to be the center of attention as long as it to praise her. She is well aware of her prowess. 

28. do people think they’re pretentious?

They know she’s pretentious.

29. is your oc detail oriented or do they focus more on the big picture?

Her mind works in details, so definitely detail-oriented.

30. which highschool movie stereotype would they fit best?

Frieda is the mean girl and she’s in high school so this isn’t even a hypothetical. This is the real life.

31. are they good giving advice?

No. Unless “Do better” instantly helps you out, then just stick to asking about like investment and recipe recommendations I guess.

32. which one of the 7 deadly sins fit your oc more? do they see it as a flaw?

Pride is the correct answer, but I’d also say Wrath is a very close one. I don’t think she’d see it as a flaw because you have to be clear and cutthroat to make it in her world.

33. is your oc more likely to keep their feelings to themselves or to share them?

She’s a sharer most of the time. Her deep insecurities need to be poked at a lot to be admitted, except to Naomi and Arina, they’ve definitely heard all about them.
