#oc: elin mcnamara

NOT-BLIPPED AU: elin mcnamara, ‘talaria’.

five years ago, peter parker disappeared on a spaceship and didn’t come home. five years ago, 50 percent of earth’s - and the universe’s population - simply ... turned to dust. elin mcnamara was not among the losses, unlike most of her class, including her remaining best friend ned leeds and her crush-from-the-third-grade, mj.

she made a promise to may parker that she didn’t even know if she could keep, but she was going to try. and to do that, she had to get help. help came in the form of the remaining avengers. she was one of the world’s remaining heroes too and she didn’t back down easily. when she imagined becoming an avenger, this wasn’t how she’d planned.

turns out, it wasn’t as easy as killing thanos, though that did lift some weight of her chest. five years later, she’s juggling working with the avengers and trying to fill the spot of the ‘friendly neighborhood hero’. talaria was never as popular as spider-man, but she was someone to look to in a world grieving.

in the end, it seems it’s going to be harder than they thought to get everyone back, time travel and infinity stones and fighting the titan himself, but she made a promise and she was going to keep it.

since i don’t think i ever wrote it out, here’s the list of my marvel ocs who got blipped and who didn’t:

elin mcnamara: blipped, but i have an au where she didn’t and joined up with the avengers to bring back the blipped people, took over the ‘friendly neighbourhood hero’-shaped hole peter left for those years; made it awkward when she was 5 years older than all her returned blipped schoolmates, friends, and crush.

betsy schaefer: not blipped, but eddie was, so she hosted venom until eddie came back; they weren’t a perfect fit but were bonded good enough that betsy didn’t die from hosting the symbiote, but got frequently sick (headaches, nausea, etc).

freddie crowe: blipped leaving quentin behind, came back to quen’s new team and his plan. split self-indulgent aus for her being pregnant when she blipped and her having given birth before blipping.

elin mcnamara - talaria.

So it goes, Aisling Elin McNamara was an ordinary kid. Until she wasn’t. Some people were born with their powers, others were science experiments or bitten by radioactive spiders. Elin, as was her nature, wandered into where she shouldn’t have ever been. Yadda yadda, glowing alien spores, blah blah weird air powers, months of training and ‘I guess I’ll be a superhero’ etcetera etcetera. In school, she was regular Elin McNamara, Peter Parker’s best friend who was harboring a crush on Michelle Jones. When she put on the mask, she was Talaria, a hero, partners with Spider-Man, both beloved.

For a long time, it was Spider-Man and Talaria, partners in heroism, even if their costumes were shoddy and homemade. And then, suddenly, it wasn’t.

Spider-Man had Iron Man, the new suit and all the new high-tech equipment. Talaria had her beat-up sneakers and a growing annoyance towards Tony Stark.

got her powers after accidentally getting bitten by an alien-spore-infected spider.

may have also accidentally eaten the spider because it was on her face when it bit her and she screamed and sh*t happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

was known as ‘jumping spider’ for a hot second when she first popped up. quickly shut that down to instead be called ‘icaranea’.

a mash-up of ‘icarus’ and ‘aranea’ because she’s a greek myth-loving nerd. she did consider arachne but decided against it in the end.

based her costume on sassacus papenhoei (the metallic green + gold jumping spider).

purely aesthetic. she was bitten by an infected kind of xysticus crab spider; brown was too boring a colour palette for her.

favourite entrance is literally drop-kicking her enemies.

can’t shoot webs and doesn’t have the inventive genius to make webshooters but has a web-themed parachute-cape for ‘flying’ (ballooning)*. she uses it a bit like a hang-glider when going from place to place.

*still has her original powers from main verse (air manipulation, enhanced speed and dexterity). technically she doesn’t need the cape to fly/float but she has an aesthetic to uphold.

there’s a pattern on the back of her suit shaped like wings beneath the cape/cloak.

her mask has four eyes because that just how jumping spiders look with their huge eyes.

y’all i can’t draw and to even try to draw her suit is way beyond my ability so??? have this crappy aesthetic???
