for da4 lace!! my love!! [ fix ] sender gently fixes receiver’s hair
hap fri ro!! that lil "what is happening to me" in the da4 trailer absolutely broke me so here have this ;-; for @dadrunkwriting
-
Lace stared at her hands. They felt separate, like they weren't even part of her. The shook slightly and she clasped them together to stop it, twisting her fingers into a knot to keep them still.
"Hey. It's okay."
A slender hand encircled her smaller ones, stroking soothing comfort across her knuckles. Drew's callouses were in odd places, from the staff he'd always wielded, and new ones from the maneuvers he had to do now that his left arm was lost to him. But they were comforting.
"What's happening to me?" she whispered, unable to keep the quaver from her voice or the tears from her eyes as she looked up at him. The rest of the Veilguard were off doing--whatever they did when the Lighthouse settled down. She couldn't have them seeing her like this. But Drew--he understood.
Things changed. Sometimes things changed irrevocably. But how did you accept that, how did you keep going? She thought she'd known. But it was different when it was her hands, her blood, her....spirit? Soul? It was different when it was her, and not the sky that was exploding.
Drew's hand tightened around hers and she looked up.
"We're going to figure it out," he promised. Dropping her hands, he brought his to her face and tenderly tucked the escaping tendrils of her updo into the braided headband that stretched across her crown. "Whatever it is. We will figure it out. And if it's hurting you--"
He broke off, his jaw flexing with something like anger. Drew didn't get angry, she knew, but he got frustrated when he couldn't see the easy answer, or when there was no easy answer. She took a deep breath, searching for that certainty that had kept her so steady through all of the Inquisition.
She found it in his hand on her cheek, his thumb pressed into her chin.
"Your magic," she asked haltingly. "What was it like, when you first...got it?"
Drew hummed, sliding his hand up and back to the messy knot at the nape of her neck. He fumbled for a moment, but he'd had years to get fair dexterity with one hand alone. Her hair fell loose down her back and he combed through it, then gathered it into his fist.
He cocked his head at her. "Tell me what you feel."
The air crackled. Her tongue tasted like metal and her fingers felt heavy, like they were layered with stone. And deep in her gut, an urging: give give give. And the knowledge that if she gave, it would be beyond her control.
"Too much," she ground out. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes; how foolish. But she was a dwarf! This wasn't even something whispered in shadowed corners, because it wasn't possible.
She gritted her teeth. When Rook returned, she would be having words with Solas. For now, she dipped her head as Drew worked the magic he'd conjured and his hand to fix her hair into a fresh knot, a smoothed out braid.
"That's what I felt, too," he said softly. The iron in the air and the crackling over her skin dissipated as he stopped casting. "Too much. But it's just different. You'll adjust, Lace. You're too smart--once we figure this out, you'll be the best dwarven mage this world has ever seen."
She snorted, despite herself. "Dagna would have a field day."
"Should I have--"
"No," Lace grinned, shaking her head. "We have enough problems, all on our own."
"We'll solve them," Drew said softly, laying his arm across Lace's shoulders and drawing her into a hug. He rested his chin atop her head. "We always do."

“The Inquisitor And Her Commander”
As some of you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of the Dragon Age games, especially Dragon Age Inquisition. Last year, I had planned on drawing all the main [playable] characters up until Dragon Age Day (which took place on December 4th), but I just didn’t have time to draw more than three characters (the Inquisitor, Solas, & Varric…please check them out in my gallery) due to being busy with work and other things. I’ll eventually draw the other characters when I gather more motivation to do so.
For now, please enjoy this piece. I hope everybody likes this. I worked very hard on this artwork. It took longer than usual to create, due to all the small details, the poses, & the armour. (Armour is not easy to draw for me!) For those of you who are DAI fans, you may recognize the flowers: Crystal Grace on the bottom and Andraste’s Grace on the top. I know Andraste’s Grace is not in DAI, but I thought it would be pretty to add to the artwork (since it technically exists in the Thedas world).
My OC Inquisitor is named Bryony Trevelyan. She is actually my 2nd Inquisitor character, the first one having been an elf (which I may draw someday). I had been playing DAI for the 3rd time, a few months ago, as a male character (since I wanted him to be in a romance with Dorian, so yes, my male Inquisitor is gay), but I stopped for a bit since I am playing Skyrim at the moment (with updates & mods). Anyway, back on the main subject: I drew Inquisitor Bryony Trevelyan in the Armor of the Dragon Hunter outfit (from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC), which I had altered the colours by tinting it with Veil Quartz. I based her crown from concept art for DAI. So much armour in the game! Which I love, especially since the DA games don’t give female characters the stereotypical skimpy outfits…I love that I get to make my female characters wear bad-ass armour.
Cullen Rutherford is such an adorable and slightly awkward character around my Inquisitor. I knew I had to romance him right away, because his looks are the type of man I am attracted to in real life. (I’m not going to lie…in the game, he’s hot for a video game character. Ha ha!) I’ve always enjoyed the flirting in the DA games when it comes to the relationships. The best scene was right before their first kiss, when Cullen got interrupted by a member of the Inquisition, and then got mad about it. Ha ha. I liked when my Inquisitor asked Cullen, “The day you kissed me on the battlements…how long had you wanted to do that?” And Cullen replied (with a laugh), “Longer that I should admit.” Awwwww.
I also liked the part in the Winter Palace, when all these people were flirting with Cullen, and one asked him, “Are you married, Commander?” And Cullen replied, “Not yet, but I am…already taken.” Double awwww, because a loyal man is so dreamy. :3 I actually had Bryony & Cullen get married in the last DLC. :3 They adopt a Mabari (dog), too!
I love DAI too much. :D It’s such a fun game with the most gorgeous graphics (especially on the Xbox Series X).
Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mixture of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. I used Koi Watercolours for the background. White accents done with both a gel pen and white watercolour. Gold acrylic was used for the Inquisition Symbol & the lines, which the scanner absolutely murders...the gold is such a pretty, shimmery metallic in real life. The light green around my art was done in Photoshop Elements.

OC Questionnaire
I love these! I was tagged by @shivunin and @greypetrel! Tysm ❤️
tagging: @ruthvelyan, @vakarians-babe and @buchimgay ❤️ no pressure!
I always do Immy, so I'm going to do Amihan, Sinag and Maya!
(And like shivunin I'm swapping star sign for tarot cards as idk enough abt astrology lol)
Tumblr media
NAME: Amihan Alejandra Elena Amell
NICKNAME: Ami or Mimi (must be a close friend or lover to use)
GENDER: Cis female
TAROT: The Tower
HEIGHT: 4'11 (149cm)
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
NATIONALITY/ETHNICITY: Free Marcher of Seheron descent (She would be Filipino in our world)
FAVORITE FRUIT: Apples
FAVORITE SEASON: Mostly autumn but loves the beach during the summer
FAVORITE FLOWER: Roses (lol)
FAVORITE SCENT: Cinnamon, parchment, star anise
COFFEE, TEA, OR HOT CHOCOLATE: Coffee
AVERAGE HOURS OF SLEEP: 🤷🏽‍♀️
DOGS OR CATS: Cats (Amihan gave the Mabari to Alistair she is actually terrified of dogs and hates them lmao)
DREAM TRIP: Wherever she doesn't have to be a warden, she hates being a warden
NUMBER OF BLANKETS: Usually 2, as it's cold in Ferelden
RANDOM FACT: Amihan was a doodler in Kinloch, she would doodle on the corner of the parchment on her notes. All that scrap parchment you collect in your inventory is there because Amihan draws on it w the leftover burnt wood from the fireplace. She once drew Alistair's side profile. She gets into painting during Awakening and her first full painting is her pet cat, Cheese.
Tumblr media
NAME: Sinag Gabriella Hawke
NICKNAME: Hawke, Diday (by Malcolm), Ate (honorific for older sister by Carver and Bethany)
GENDER: Cis female
TAROT CARD: Wheel of Fortune
HEIGHT: 5'11 (180cm)
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
NATIONALITY/ETHNICITY: Fereldan of Seheron descent
FAVORITE FRUIT: Blueberries and raspberries
FAVORITE SEASON: Winter

AVERAGE HOURS OF SLEEP: 2-4, 5 if we're lucky. by Inquisition Sinag rarely ever sleeps
DOGS OR CATS: Dogs
DREAM TRIP: Seheron
NUMBER OF BLANKETS: 1
RANDOM FACT: She used to freeze this pond near the Hawke farm for Bethany and Carver to "skate" on when they were little. It drove Malcolm and Leandra crazy cause they were afraid they'd get found, but they never did. This was how Sinag honed her ice magic and it's her most powerful spec
Tumblr media
NAME: Maya Tabingdagat
NICKNAME: M, May-May (by Gabriel Trevelyan)
GENDER: Cis Female
TAROT CARD: Death
HEIGHT: 4'11
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
NATIONALITY/ETHNICITY: Free Marcher (I suppose? since she grew up in Ostwick circle) of Seheron descent
FAVORITE FRUIT: She doesn't really like the fruits in Southern Thedas, she prefers the tropical fruits from Northern Thedas from when she was a child in Seheron, so mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, rambutan
FAVORITE SEASON: Spring and Summer
FAVORITE FLOWER: Lillies
FAVORITE SCENT: Flower blooms in the Spring, citrus scents, fresh sheets
COFFEE, TEA, OR HOT CHOCOLATE: Tea with lots of sugar lol
AVERAGE HOURS OF SLEEP: Before Maya became tranquil she hardly slept, after becoming Tranquil then reversing it, she finds that she oversleeps often
DREAM TRIP: Seheron, or anywhere sunny
DOGS OR CATS: Both
NUMBER OF BLANKETS: A duvet and a thin sheet below
RANDOM FACT: Maya's arcane skills are weak, and she was never a powerful mage. It was the elephant in the room growing up that everyone around her knew she wouldn't pass the Harrowing. So instead, she asked to become Tranquil at 20, and luckily she had a group of friends, including future Inquisitor Gabriel Trevelyan, who kept her safe and took care of her. When the Circles fell and her and her friends were on the run, she's touched by a spirit from the rift and it reverses her Tranquility

wip wednesday
Thank you for the tag, @melisusthewee!
This week, in honor of @wolfs-dawn's birthday, I have put her OC Alora Lavellan and my OC Thalia Trevelyan into a spooky Situation™. They've gotten lost after one of their horses lost a shoe and they can't find their way back to Caer Bronach in Crestwood.
---
Thalia took a breath and let it out slowly. The threads of panic she’d been ignoring for hours began to seep in. Above the tree canopy, the sky was fading from pink to a navy blue; soon the stars would be out. It had all seemed so simple at lunchtime. Alora had arrived in Crestwood unexpectedly, sent to tend to the new retinue of horses operating out of Caer Bronach. Thalia and her field team were still in the region, sweeping the area for any lingering undead since closing the Fade rift under Old Crestwood. Now that the weather had improved, it seemed the perfect opportunity for a forest ride.
They were without any camping supplies, having assumed they’d have a quick jaunt and be back at the keep by dinner. They’d gone without any escort or security detail, because that defeated the purpose of stepping out on work to spend your afternoon with a friend. It also meant no one knew where they were, or how to reach them. And the “shortcut” Thalia opted to take had only gotten them more lost.
“So. What are our options?” Thalia asked, putting on the voice she used at the war table.
“Er. Well. We could keep going,” Alora said. “Hope we find the main road again, or at least a village or crossroads inn that will take us for the night. Hope they have a farrier for Puck. I’ve got a few sovereigns in my pocket.”
“Right. Or…” Thalia glanced at the grove of trees straddling the path. “I guess we could try sleeping here and set out again by the morning’s light.”
“No offense, Your Worship,” Alora replied, “but I’m not keen on sleeping on the ground and foraging berries for our supper tonight. I know the Dalish have a reputation, but bad conditions favor nobody.”
“All right, all right. We’ll go a little longer. But if it gets fully dark I think we need to reassess. These woods aren’t safe at night.” Thalia almost added that they were barely safe during the day, what with the reports of Red Templars out in the hills, but she didn’t want to add to Alora’s worry. That had barely been a consideration earlier in the day.
The two continued down the desolate country road, the twilight deepening. Before long, the trees grew ever thicker, and a low mist rolled in along the ground. Ambient animal sounds drew nearer: crickets, hooting owls, and a fluttering of wings that might be bats.
A high-pitched inhuman whine filled the air, distant but disquieting.
Alora gasped, looking about as her horse whickered in fear. “What was that?”
“Wolves, I think,” Thalia whispered.
“Oh.” Alora’s voice trembled. “Right. Okay. Just wolves. Hungry for flesh and blood, probably.” She laughed nervously. “I take everything back. We should have stayed where we were.”
“Wolves aren’t so bad,” Thalia said, trying to keep her voice light. “We could take them. I’ve got my staff and you’ve got your sword, right?”
“Yeahhhh, um. About that…”
“Alora.” Thalia stopped in her tracks. “You didn’t bring it?”
“I didn’t think I’d need it! In my defense.”
“Of course.” Maybe Thalia should have told her about the Red Templars. Or the dragon she’d spied circling the air south of the Crestwood dam. Or the reports of wyvern sightings in the area. “Well. I know this much: when we get back, Blackwall is going to be furious.”
She imagined what the stoic, black-clad Grey Warden was doing in her absence. Probably pacing about Caer Bronach, seething. He misliked letting her get into intrigues on her own. Which, given how dangerous much of the Thedosian wilderness had proven to be, was probably wise.
“Is now really the time to bring him up?” Alora asked, urging Alassa through a particularly dense patch of fog. “Creators, I swear sometimes that man acts more like your babysitter than your boyfriend.”
“He’s not my boyfriend,” Thalia huffed. “He’s my sworn knight and protector.”
“Ah, I see. So your babysitter and your boyfriend.”
Thalia was about to hotly contest what must be a Dalish cultural misunderstanding of knightly chivalry, but Alora let out a small yelp. “Wait, hang on! I think I see something up ahead.”

some days I am angry
sneaking today's @febuwhump in under the wire! For "too weak to move" - lyrium withdrawal gives Cullen a Bad Time™️and Acacia is not around to help ;-;
read it on ao3 here
Cullen Rutherford & Male Trevelyan, Cullen Rutherford/Female Trevelyan | Rated T | 1113 words | CW: drug addiction/withdrawal, lyrium addiction/withdrawal, nausea, vomiting
-
The hastily scrawled script of a field report swam before Cullen’s eyes. He struggled to pull the words into focus, straining against the steady beating inside his skull. His fingers clenched around the parchment as he reread the same sentence for a third time, to no avail.
Defeated, he dropped his head to the desk. Sweat seeped from his skin into the parchment but he had no care left to shift it aside. His limbs were heavy and hollow, like stones dragging him to the bottom of the sea. Except the sea was a little too bright and it hummed with electricity and sang to him the siren call of lyrium.
He glanced at the bookshelf, ashamed at how he effortlessly found the false tome that hid his kit. Perhaps just half a dose…enough to focus on these troop movements…
Claws of guilt raked through his chest. It would be so easy, painfully easy, to dull it. Why was he making things harder for himself again? Wasn’t the world troubled enough without any help?
Disgusted by his own weakness, Cullen hauled himself upright with a grunt. He circled the desk, one hand against it to keep his balance. Warily, he eyed the distance to the door. He could shout—it wouldn’t be the first time—but the last thing he needed in this state was word getting back to the Seeker.
Or perhaps that was exactly what he did need, he thought guiltily. Surely it was time for a replacement, if he felt the need to hide the state of things from her?
With shaky steps, he crossed the floor. His fist and forehead pressed against the door frame and he heaved, swallowing back bile so he could catch his breath. He unlocked the door and cleared his throat, startling the freckle-faced runner stationed there. The boy snapped to attention and Cullen winced as sunlight bounced off the too-big helmet and seared itself into his sensitive eyes.
“Commander, ser! At your service, ser!”
“At ease,” he said, halfheartedly dismissing the salute. “Ah, if you would, fetch Lady Acacia for me.”
“At once, ser!”
He sagged back into the blessed darkness of his office. Cupping his hands, he scooped tepid water in his palms and splashed it haphazardly onto his face. He leaned against the nearest bookshelf and sank down to his knees.
Just a little while longer. He could sit with this suffering until she came and chased the cravings, the shame, away with her gentle, knowing touch.
When the runner returned, a second set of footsteps had joined him. Cullen scrubbed at his eyes, as if he had any chance of looking presentable. He latched his fingers around one of the shelves and hauled himself to his feet.
But when the door swung open, it was not Acacia there.
“Oh—Inquisitor, I,” Cullen cleared his throat. He glared daggers past Trevelyan’s silhouette at the runner. Blasted recruits were greener than Sundermount in spring. How simple must he make his orders for them to be followed? “I apologize, I was expecting someone else.”
“My sister,” Drew said grimly. “I know. She’s…indisposed, so you get me instead.”
“Indisposed? Is she alright?”
“Probably.” The Inquisitor’s eyes shifted away from Cullen and—was that a blush rising in his cheeks? “She’s, ah, enjoying some time off.”
Oh. A matching redness colored Cullen’s face, stark against his waxy complexion. Along with it came the bitter heat in his gut. Acacia made it quite clear that their time together amounted to no more than a dalliance—he had no right to the green-eyed beast that growled in his throat. And yet, he could not tame it away.
Unbidden, he felt the softness of her against his skin, saw that easy smile she liked to press to the corner of his mouth. She set him aside with careless nonchalance and it burned, how she turned her attention to Ser Barris as if their time together was nothing more than a pleasant distraction from the end of the world.
Which it had been, for her.
He saw red. He had no right—
A wave of nausea rolled up from within and Cullen staggered away from the bookshelf. He would have fallen, if not for the Inquisitor ducking beneath him, supporting his bulk surprisingly well for such a lanky frame. Drew dragged one of Cullen’s arms across his shoulders and gracelessly deposited the commander in his chair, as one might drop a too-heavy sack of potatoes.
“You look like shit, Rutherford,” he said.
Cullen, heaving, could not answer. But he hadn’t eaten today, so the efforts of his stomach to empty itself were mostly for naught. The taste of bile and a few pathetic globs of saliva filled his mouth; he swallowed them back down, wincing, and dragged the back of his hand across his lips.
“Here, drink this.” Trevelyan offered him a cup of fresh water, but when Cullen went to take it, a spark jumped between their hands. Like floodgates opened, he could feel it, then: the lyrium, flowing through the Inquisitor’s veins with every beat of his heart. The film of it still coated his teeth and Cullen’s ravenous cravings reached their claws out to take it as Drew swore under his breath.
“Shit, I didn’t think—“
He backed away and though every fiber of Cullen’s being strained after him, the reality of his weakened constitution kept him firmly seated. The cup lay shattered between them, water seeping across the floorboards.
“Fuck, I’m sorry,” Drew said. He downed a few mouthfuls of water, as if that would ever be enough to erase the lingering effects of a lyrium potion. Not one so recently taken, not when Solas had ensured their alchemical recipes were as potent as possible.
“Should I—“
“—go, Inquisitor,” Cullen groaned. “Leave. I will be fine.”
Only one thing had ever helped him in this state—well, two things, but he was no longer sure the lyrium could measure up to her touch, the absolution he felt when she cared for him. Ironically, it somewhat dimmed the siren call of his addiction.
But only a little. He suspected death would find him before it ever vanished entirely.
“Go,” he repeated, for Trevelyan was hovering, uncertain, in the door frame. “Or send for the Seeker, if you believe me unfit. You cannot help me; I must endure.”
He closed his eyes so he didn’t have to see the disdainful pity in the Inquisitor’s face. This suffering was his alone; that was what he had chosen, and the added pain now was the price of thinking anyone could help.
They could not.
He must endure.

UPRIGHT: Strength, courage, persuasion, influence, compassion
REVERSED: Inner strength, self-doubt, low energy, raw emotion
anyway, @daihell is an angel and one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met, and I’m very sad to be moving out after 3 years of her basically letting me chill in her house lol.  Here is a gift for you, my friend.  Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.

Some Things And Stuff that I have HCs about but please don't ask me how they actually work lol.
Lilian's knee brace and leg prosthesis are fully mechanical, no magic involved, cept for some durability runes to make it last longer. Liam's back support (he doesn't wear it all the time, only when his back gets real bad) isn't fancy either, though Sandal put some nifty enchantment on there to make it more effective.
June's thingy is more complex cos Dagna designed it to channel and enhance magic. She also has a kind of.. magic prosthetic grabby arm (also Dagna's) that automatically clamps shut when something touches the pincers, but it's finicky and can't control its force so she doesn't use it much (yet)

“Living a lie…it festers inside you, like poison. You have to fight for what’s in your heart.” – Dorian Pavus
I recently beat Dragon Age Inquisition for the third time! I love that game immensely: everything about it is wonderful. I chose a male Inquisitor - as a rogue - because I wanted to romance Dorian. The first time I played DAI, it was the female elf Lavellen – whom I named Zephyra – and she was a mage, and the romance with Solas was a bloody disaster & heartbreaking. (Damn you, Solas!) The second time I played as the human female Trevelyan – named Bryony (who you have seen me do two fanarts of) – a warrior, and romanced Cullen. (Cullen is so hot for a video game character…where can I find a man like that? Lol.) I hope you like this artwork!
Also: Happy Pride Month! 🌈 It’s actually a perfect time to submit this artwork. This was a lot of fun to create (a full colour piece). If you haven’t played the Dragon Age games, it is actually very LGBTQ friendly. You can make your characters gay, lesbian, or bisexual. There is even a transgender male in DAI, named Krem, who is a cool character. Bioware is open-minded, that’s for sure, so the DA series is for everybody. And omg, let me tell you that the conversations & bantering between the characters is hilarious!
⚠️Warning: Spoilers Ahead!⚠️
Dorian is quite the character…a sarcastic & witty lad. He is complex at first, especially regarding his history (how his father tried to “erase” who he truly was, when it came to his homosexuality). It was fun romancing him with Cedric (Trevelyan), who I made a rouge/assassin. So off course I had to draw my OC [male] Cedric Trevelyan with Dorian! Cedric is Dorian’s “Amatus”. I made them wear simpler outfits when I drew them, because near the end of the game, they were wearing complex armour. That stuff is hard to draw! I chose to draw Lilies by Cedric & Dorian, because if you romance Dorian, his tarot card shows him holding what looks like a Lily.
The two of them had this conversation near the end of the Trespasser DLC:
Cedric: “Whatever happens, I wouldn’t trade the years we’ve had together for anything. I love you.”
Dorian: “I knew you would break my heart, you bloody bastard.”
Lol! Awww, jeez, Dorian, just say you love my Inquisitor, too. I honestly really think that Dorian loved him, as stubborn as he was to admit it. At first I was annoyed when Dorian chose to go back to Trevinter, and I thought, “Darn you, don’t you dare pull a Solas on my Inquisitor, after all you've gone through with him!” However, after the game ends, it tells you what happens to the characters (depending on your choices). For me, the game said that Dorian’s “greatest strength lay in the lover he left in the south, but still conversed with via message crystal”, and “some claimed to have seen the Inquisitor on the streets on Minrathos on rare occasions, sneaking into the heart of Trevinter to aid his Amatus.” It made me happy to know that the Inquisitor and Dorian stayed together. I wonder if that will show up with the 4th game.
⚠️Spoilers Over!⚠️
Speaking of the 4th game, who is excited to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, to be released later this year? I watched the gameplay trailer and I am excited for it! I hope characters from DAI will be in it (so far, Varric & Solas have been shown).
Drawn with sepia Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mixture of Copic Markers, Ohuhu Markers, & Zenacolor coloured pencils. White accents done with a Sakura gel pen & the gold accents were done with Golden brand acrylic paint.
