Inconvenient Circumstances {V/???}

{ Author's note: FINALLY, THIS RETURNED TvT rejoice! I've been trying to find a general plot for this since it'll be like- 8 parts or more, so "Inconvenient Circumstances" is a long-term project for the Addams AU! I hope you guys don't mind waiting for the next parts }

So many of you may have been wondering, why have the Addams family been invited to the kingdom of dawn in the first place?

Well, one, no one knows they are the Addams family. An infamous family of supernatural humans who became known through their unsolved indestructibility and immunity to pain.

Two, the 'Shards' is an illustrious 'dukedom' known far and wide. So naturally, the royal family of the kingdom of dawn would naturally invite them.

Finally…. Well, for whatever reason, the Addams family lost their values. Their utter shamelessness of showing off who they are to the public all because of the public media's perception of what is considered 'out of place'. The current generation has yet to properly understand their predecessors values because of that perception.

But, that aside, things have been running smoothly for the family. They were invited for a four week celebration, and as it turned out, the eldest brother and sister weren't exactly pleased.

Vil sipped his tea in irritation, hiding said irritation behind a straight poker face. As for Victoria, she fluttered her fan gently as they had tea on her bedroom's balcony.

"They extended this to three weeks, it seems…" Vil muttered, putting down his cup of tea to look at the bright blue sky above him.

Victoria slammed her fist on the table."I still can't believe we have to participate in this noble gathering. We're not even a duchy!" She complained, waving her arms around.

Vil squinted his eyes."Victoria, the 'Shard duchy' is a coverup for a reason. Our family can't be out in the open being ourselves anymore." He reminded, making the girl groan.

"I get it, brother, but alas I find that reason to be incredibly lacking."

"And why is that?"

"For starters, didn't our ancestors find no need to hide their true selves and show off their oddness?"

Vil held back an exasperated groan, knowing where the conversation was heading."Yes… Your point?" He questioned.

As Victoria was about to open her mouth to continue, Epel and Evonie opened the balcony doors.

"Eh…. Guys.." Evonie called out, immediately grabbing the eldest siblings' attention.

"Yes Evonie?" Victoria smiled sweetly, as if she wasn't about to go on a rapid tangent moments before.

Evonie smiled nervously, side glancing at Epel, who nodded vehemently. Epel walked over to Vil and handed him a letter.

Vil's lips parted a bit out of pure perplexity."What is this? It better not be another announcement that'll extend the eve-" Epel shushed him.

"To be honest, it's likely not what you've guessed, Vil. Evonie received this from one of the palace servants, but they didn't explain to her about who sent it." Epel crossed his arms as Evonie approached them a bit closer, fiddling with her hands.

"I-I didn't know if I should open it or not… So I went to Epel and he took me to your room.." Evonie stated awkwardly, looking away for a couple seconds.

Victoria hummed, quickly taking the letter away from Vil and forcefully opened it.

'To my apple flower,

You enchant me with your beauty

Your soul so pure

My love grows day by day, there seems to be no cure

As I write to you now, there's one thing I have to ask

Meet me in the palace gardens, and maybe we can break our fast?

From me to you,

Sincerely, your love.'

After reading the letter, Victoria ripped it up. Evonie flinched abruptly, and tried to stop her from ripping it apart completely. But alas, her effort was worthless.

"W-Why would you rip it up??"

"To start, the poetry was horrible. Second," Victoria continued,"This anonymous individual seems to fancy you and wishes to and I quote 'break our fast' together. Which I will gladly deny them of it."

Vil nodded in agreement."Exactly, Evonie. This anonymous individual may try to harm you in some way instead of what they implied in the letter." Evonie sighed softly.

"I know, but… What do I do now? What if the letters continue to be sent?"

"No need to worry, Evonie~ Besides, there's a one in a millionth chance that letters will continue to be sent!" Neige chimed in gleefully, causing Vil's teacup to crack.

Evonie smiled awkwardly, scratching the back of her head.

"I hope so, Neige…"

As it turned out, the letters only continued to be sent.

Evonie tried, and I mean TRIED, to follow Victoria's advice when a second letter came. To just simply avoid answering them.

But unfortunately, that turned out to be pretty useless advice since the letters just kept on coming.

And it started to freak Evonie out.

She currently had eleven letters that were sent to her every day. And unsurprisingly, another letter came in by… The same servant.

Now that I think about it… All of these letters were sent to me by the same servant. Evonie thought, looking at the pile plopped onto her bed.

She opened her twelfth letter, and began looking through it. This time, it was much more discreet, and less poetic than the previous eleven.

'Please meet me at night, in the palace maze.

I wish to tell you something.

Sincerely, your love.'

Evonie pursed her lips, a bead of sweat falling down her face. Sighing, she put the letter down and began to ponder.

"What do I do…." Evonie murmured, resting her head on her arms as she slouched on her vanity desk.

Seeing as the sun was almost done setting, Evonie had to make up her mind quickly.

After pondering for about 35 minutes, Evonie stood up and began her plan to sneak out, and see this anonymous individual who had been sending her letters for a week and a half.

When nightfall came, Evonie put on her hooded coat, and made a break for the palace gardens and frantically looked for the maze. While simultaneously trying to avoid any palace guards who may start to frantically ask her why she was awake.

One problem. She didn't tell her family.

She hid behind a tree, covering her mouth as a palace guard walked past her. She let out an audible sigh of relief, before ever so carefully making her way towards the maze.

And thankfully, she didn't need to worry about getting lost. As she found rose petals making a trail the minute she entered the maze.

So she simply decided to cautiously follow the trail, a dagger close to her chest in case someone tried to attack.

Evonie looked back, trying to find an explanation as to why the anonymous individual asked her to meet her in the maze.

Suddenly, Evonie bumped into something. Or rather, someone.

She yelped, slapping a hand over her mouth as soon as she did. Her eyes widened when she gazed upon the person she bumped into.

The prince of thorns himself. Malleus Draconia.

"P-P-PRINCE DRACONIA???"

"Ah, the sister of Addams's cousin." Malleus hummed casually, ignoring Evonie's stammers of absolute shock.

"Y-You're the anonymous individual sending me letters??" She asked, making a rapid attempt at hiding any sign of nervousness in his presence.

Malleus raised a brow."Pardon?" He responded, earning the same level of confusion as Evonie.

"Eh? Well…" She gave him the letter that was sent to her earlier. As he read it, Malleus hummed, squinting his eyes.

Evonie shuddered a bit, taking note of the fact that his eyes glowed at night.

"How odd…. I was also sent a letter to meet at this location."

Evonie deadpanned."And you didn't question it whatsoever?" She suddenly felt an air of confidence rise within her, finding it strange how Malleus is seemingly unbothered by the letter.

He shrugged."I sent it to Lilia and he simply stated that it shouldn't be too bad for me to go here." Evonie's lips parted, eyebrows raised. She felt appalled, and almost felt certain that Malleus… Wasn't the sharpest tool in the toolbox-

At least that's how she felt right now. She barely knows the fae prince outside of the fact that he's… Well- A prince.

"Okay…. Hopefully-" Evonie yelped, feeling something pierce her arm. And to her horror…. She looked down at her arm, to see an arrow, laced with poison, through her arm.

Malleus flinched."Miss Addams!" He yelled, about to counterattack whoever hit her with the arrow, before getting hit by one himself.

And unfortunately for Malleus, it was silver. And possibly laced with twice the amount of poison.

Evonie's eyes fluttered shut, and she felt her head hit the ground.

She looks out of it. Her mind must be in daze,he decided to not make her listen to any more of his rants. He pulls the blanket over her more even though it's already pretty perfect. He took off the needle on her wrist and put her hand back gently.

"Can I grant wishes? Well, if it's in my capabilities, I will grant your wishes. Maybe one or two", caressing her forehead, she moves the thin strands of coal black hair out of there.

"What kind of wishes... are you talking about?", he pondered, it's been long since he felt this way. Sheltering a child, granting their wishes as a parent or a brother. How nostalgia indeed. How much this child suffered to be in this state? Requiring medical assistance every single day...

He's never been fond of war, but when one must have it, they must have it. Whether their inner war or the war sacrificing the people... When there is in need of a change. What a twist of fate, to put him in a similar condition... once again.

A sparkle of hope and determination gleamed in the eyes that seemed more skin to that of the endless abyss, even through darkness, stars still manage to shine.

She continued to lay in the hard bedding of the infirmary, she took the vitamins from him, and listened to his words half heartedly, her mind was more so focused on what had to be done in order to bring back the white es in her people's eyes.

"What can I do.... What must I do.... You can't grant any wishes, can you? "

She asked, the last part was more of a joke as she laughed at herself, her eyes fixated on her hands, on my skin and bones, her veins were clear underneath the pale skin, her nails were painted a beautiful shade of red, just like an apple.

Thoughts were overwhelming for a moment, and she heard a brutal ringing in her wars, but the vision of herself, sitting upon that throne with people happily cheering for her... It made her soul burn more.

She simply nodded at his talking, taking everything and writing it at the back of her head. Visit him everyday, take those vitamins... Easy enough.

I've been writing some smut for two of my OCs in the Turn fanfic You've Caught Me Between Wind and Water, Lt. Jameson Mullcock and Lt. Frederico Ridgewell. It's going really well, so well in fact that I might end up submitting it to an erotica magazine in the future--which would prevent me from posting it on AO3.

To that end, to cover my own disappointment, here's some bits of lore for these two, gratis:

Background

Frederico

Full name is Frederico “Dico” Miguel Carvalho dos Reis Ridgewell

He is a Portuguese-American (mother is Portuguese) and stands in for the many Portuguese-American contributions to the Continental Army (go look up Pedro "Peter" Francisco)

Father split when Frederico was young, he grew up with his mother in New York in a Portuguese neighbourhood

Speaks fluent Portuguese

James

Jameson Mullcock is just Jameson Mullcock, but he goes by James

He is Irish-American and stands in for the many Irish-American contributions to the Continental Army (I explicitly wanted to include an Irish-American character because there were shitty stereotypes in the army against the Irish from other nationalities; like, we have primary sources for this)

James does not disclose he is half-Irish when he enlists and just lists his birthplace as Philadelphia

His mother is Abaigeal Noiréis (Abigail Norris), born in Galway, Ireland (thank you @mercurygray for naming her and helping me with her backstory!)

She is Catholic and married a Protestant British soldier she met during the occupation of Ireland, then followed him to England and then Pennsylvania and had to keep her faith secret

James is raised Protestant and only knows a little of the Catholic faith, which he keeps secret (because there was a considerable anti-Catholic sentiment in parts of the colonies)

Knows a little bit of Irish and wishes he knew more but doesn't think he'd be welcome (or feel comfortable) among the Irish soldiers and officers

and the whole reason I put this post together, which is to remind future Apfel that they are 2nd LIEUTENANTS in LAMB'S CONTINENTAL ARTILLERY which was reorganized in 1777 from LAMB'S INDEPENDENT COMPANY NEW YORK ARTILLERY which drew from artillery companies in NEW YORK, CONNECTICUT AND PENNSYLVANIA. OKAY??

AND ARTHUR GARRICK IS A 1ST LIEUTENANT AND CAPTAIN ARMISTEAD FOLK IS THEIR CAPTAIN. AND PERKINS IS THEIR ENSIGN. IT'S ALL ONE GROUP. REMEMBER THIS!

I already had the idea that Peter (OC) gets really excited when another character (who I haven't named yet) told him he speaks a little german. But they thought of very different amounts, so Peter kept asking him questions in german and the other guy is just standing there wondering if anyone of the questions have "Apfel" (apple) as an answer.

And also that Peter gets to meet the guy's cat and immidiately calls it "Miezekätzchen" and the cat is clearly not a kitten. But Peter talks to the cat like it's the cutest creature he has ever seen and he does that with every cat he meets (every cat he miez).

But now I think Peter would also like, point at a bumblebee and say "We call it Hummel!" and just do that with every insect he sees.

Goodness. I made Apfel years ago and I can hardly remember much about her!

I think I made her because Chichi bothered the heck out of me and just a lot of things about and from canon annoyed me.

Apfel is a Female Saiyan that has been a part of Freiza’s elite staff (coughslavescough) since she was a young child.

@nordictwin will remember and know better than me at this point I think 😅. If I recall anything else I’ll add to this post.
