#oc: Vlassk

This is entirely @wisp-of-chaos's fault. They got me into the idea of Illithid babies, specifically their OC Vlassk with baby Omeluum. If I have to suffer the cuteness overload and brainrot, THEN SO DO YOU ALL.

Under the cut due to length!

IMAGE TEXT:

1.) Born partially blind and know their parent of guardian by their psionic signature, touch, and smell. Their vision will gradually adjust over ten to fifteen weeks of age.

2.) Self soothing: Newborns are prone to suckling on their own tentacles!

3.) Internal yolk. A newborn Illithid will "nurse" on its parent's psionic energy for the first six to eight weeks of life before adjusting to a semi-solid diet.

4.) Cranium bones are still soft and not yet fully fused. This makes the birth easier for not just the parent, but the child as well, whose delicate brain can be easily damaged until the skull hardens.

5.) Limbs are soft and extremely weak. It takes months for a newborn to learn how to fully use its limbs, with their tentacles being the first to gain full mobility and dexterity.

6.) Claws are not yet developed. Fingers and toes and very soft and delicate and may be prone to injury if the parent is not careful. Grip strength is extremely weak compared to the tentacles.

BOTTOM TEXT: Extremely soft and fragile, but frighteningly intelligent and curious. Newborn Illithids may gain a higher vocabulary in under a year if they are cared for properly and fed a rich diet of sapient brain mush. At roughly a year of age, they can be given cut pieces of intact brain. After eighteen months, they are big enough to eat a whole half brain. They are able to walk, speak, and levitate around two years.

Other HCs not included due to limited space:

juvenile marks and spots vanish over time.

newborns cannot lift their own heads for at least five months due to the size and weight of their own brains.

teething. Newborn teeth come in at around ten months of age, then shed them at two years, gaining juvenile teeth. These fall out at five years old and they gain their first sub-adult set.

the internal yolk is visible until the newborn fully absorbs it and moves onto brain mush. The translucency of its belly also becomes opaque over their first year of life.

Newborns are entirely reliant on their parent or caretakers for the first two years of their life due to their weak muscle and delicate bone structures. Their fragility makes them precious to a colony, and they take almost as much precedence as an Elder Brain.

I don't know, I just thought this was fricken adorable and like I said, entirely Wisp's fault. I need baby Omeluum in my life being a curious and extra squishy little bean that can't stop putting things in its mouth and is ENAMORED by glowing mushrooms.

It's HC hobbies include extra long naps, chewing its own tentacles, chewing Vlassk's tentacles/hands, getting into places it shouldn't, wearing cookware, naps in its sling and/or Vlassk's tendrils, touching EVERYTHING, watching small critters, and contemplating the mystery of mirrors.

Oh dear, does the worm LOVE someone - what a question!

For the longest time, I thought him utterly incapable of feeling any sort of affection towards anyone besides himself. But as we all know, people change and grow … and wouldn't you know it, he indeed found someone (or even more someone's depending on the AU) to fall for.

His main interest lies in @faewrenbird's Yvssek (and Adrasta as of late) but @sumi-sprite's Spinel and @leadfort's Quith are also among the people he could – technically – like. A bit. In his own very special way.

There's also always Vlassk but that would be the most twisted, fucked up thing ever, so let's not go there … yet.

I did a little wrap up of my illithid OC's background and decided to share it on AO3 as well! Enjoy, but heed the tags!

Summary:

Ceremorphosis is a double-edged blade, yet to save his lover, Qirilissk decided to take the chance and gambled with fate. But he fails. He loses his lover and gains a newborn illithid and despite the pain and loss he suffers, Qirilissk takes on the task of raising and training him. … Or so, it seems.

CW: Mentions of physical abuse and emotional manipulation, ceremorphosis, gore and violence. As well as hinted rape/non-con. Nothing too graphical, though. This is not a happy story, I fear.

Vlassk is mild mannered – for illithid standards – and prefers the solitude of his archive over the company of others. He is prone to complain and nag a lot but values knowledge – no matter what kind – above all else. He even collects books and scrolls from other races and heretical texts about necromancy and gods, which often leads to conflicts with fellow illithids of his colony, but has never once lost an argument to them and isn’t above rubbing that fact into their faces.

Vlassk may put up an impassive, tough face but doesn’t believe in violence; yet happily throws insults and mockeries around, but is quick to crumble and bend when someone gets up and close. He also likes to slap people with his tentacles, now and then.

Vlassk is very secretive and private; doesn’t like to show off too much skin and doesn’t like to be touched nor does he appreciate frivolous flirting. He furthermore prefers his food bland and without any emotions or feelings or memories to keep his mind clean and without interference of others.

He isn’t the most truthful person and often lies and bends his words to obscure his true feelings and intentions, even to himself. Vlassk has a hard time admitting and acknowledging his weaknesses and is highly insecure about his bodily imperfections.

He doesn’t trust easily nor quickly but once he sees someone worthy of his time – and even friendship – he gets very protective and even shows signs of fatherly care.

Vlassk also has a complicated relationship with intimacy; shy and nervous about his body and own needs and wants yet capable and knowledgeable on how to please others. He has a very high pain tolerance, but doesn’t appreciate getting hurt and has a deep seated fear of knives.

Vlassk enjoys and appreciates music and loves the sea, preferring a stay at the shore over dark caves or forests or bustling cities and has the habit of decorating his home with flowers and collecting seashells.

Aside from the frills on his head and the tails on his back, Vlassk has a set of gills under his ribs and special salt-water adapted mucous glands that allow him to stay in saltwater without suffering any form of harm. Which comes of the cost of having to maintain a higher moisture level than other illithids and having to either take long soaks each day or to apply a special lotion he himself created.

His illithid scent is also affected by his special glands and makes him smell less sweet and more crisp, akin to the salty sea air with some faint hints of garlic and wet sand.

Due to boredom, Vlassk has picked up calligraphy and tried his hands on mother of pearl inlays and although the start was a bit unsteady, with time and patience and practice he’s become a master of both.

Who would ask “would you still love me if I was a worm?” and how would the other(s) respond? Larik. He's just being a goofball and probably expects Vlassk to say "no" and feign a broken heart.

Who comes up with the best date night ideas? It's a bit 50/50 I think. Larik's a romantic at heart and the more creative mind, so maybe he has a leg up on ideas.

Who’s better at carnival games? Physical games like throwing, lifting, hitting, etc: Larik. But for puzzles, strategy, or games where you need to be VERY careful and use a delicate touch: Vlassk.

Who drags the other(s) onto a rollercoaster? Neither I'd imagine. Larik would love rollercoasters but he's not going to force his boyfriend on if he's scared lol

Who does the most chores? I'd imagine it's a bit even. Larik sometimes forgets to clean up after painting, but he's not a slob, just a bit of a one-track mind lol

Who gets drunk the quickest? Probably Vlassk. Larik can throw them back like nothing lol

Who watches the most reality tv? Larik has a weakness for competitive shows (think face off, tattoo master, etc) so probably him. Vlassk I think is more into documentaries.

Who insists their way is better even though it’s objectively the worst way? Neither I'd imagine. Unless they're jokingly arguing and insisting this VERY CLEARLY dumb idea is correct, but it's done out of humor.

Who believes in ghosts? Considering the verse they came from? Maybe both. Depends ont he AU maybe.

Who texts the most memes to the other(s)? Larik, hands down. Xo'to (a friend/baby sibling to Vlassk) joins in on the meme flow. They enable each other, much to everyone else's dismay.

Who makes the most typos/autocorrect mistakes? Larik. Vlassk I imagine is VERY careful with his texts lol

Who’s a more nervous flyer? Weirdly, probably Larik! He's not afraid of heights necessarily, he just prefers being on the ground or in the ocean. He'd just be tense during a flight though, nothing to warrant medications or a shit ton of drinks.

If they have matching pfps, are they cute, funny, weird, etc? Cute and funny maybe! Probably the exact same profile pics we have now lol

Who’s better at writing professional emails? VLASSK. Hands down. He has a way with words, is professional, has better grammar and punctuation, etc. Larik HATES administrative tasks too.

Who steals the other(s)’ food? Larik lol He's a hungry guy, and likes to tease Vlassk by stealing a bite or two from his plate. He'll share though to make it fair!

Who’s more willing to commit murder for the other(s)? Potentially a bit of both...? Larik's got the instinct for it if he senses direct and legitimate danger to his mate, so it could happen.

Their child is chanting “McDonalds! McDonalds! McDonalds!”, who says they have food at home, joins the chant, or buys a single black coffee and leaves? Larik joins the chant, Vlassk says they have food at home...but once the kids AND Larik put on the puppy eyes, they get McDonalds.

Who uses more slang? Larik. He has moments where he slips into his beach bum persona and uses some slang, though he is actually very well spoken for such a laid back guy.

Who uses emoticons? Larik. Always with the heart, kissy, winky, and various fish emojis lol

Who would absolutely slay at the met gala? Both of them, no cap lol

What your OCs or favorite characters would be doing on a beach? In case they absolutely can't go on a beach, what other summer activity do they enjoy?

Illithid OCs Larik, Mar’reen, and Xo’to!

Larik - Larik is a total beach bum, you ave to DRAG him kicking and screaming off a beach. He’s an avid surfer, wind-sailor, and occasional sailor! He enjoys diving in shallows and reefs for little treasures and trinkets, saying hi to turtles and picking up discarded fishing gear or trash. He’s very athletic, so swimming and other beach activities are his go-to, but when he wants to relax, he’ll pick a shady spot and enjoy those fruity drinks with the little umbrellas in them. He’ll munch on whole coconuts too.

Without a beach nearby, he spends his time painting or drawing, or going to the next best thing in the form of rivers and lakes. Or he’ll go bother his favorite bookish Illithid and his twins~ (aka Vlassk aka @the-illithid-archivist)

Mar’reen - Mar is your attractive milf lounging on the beach under an umbrella in a bikini and sipping a pinacoloda; sunhat and sheer shawl skirt and all. She enjoys the sound of the waves and salty breeze on her skin. As she cared for her squidlings though, she was much more attentive and would often play with or build sandcastles with her kids. She rarely got int he water, but enjoyed walking just in the shore where the water could run over her feet. She’ll enjoy a good book, some music, or check out the shops and handsome beach-goers for her viewing pleasure~

With the beach not being an option, she’s at home relaxing on her rare day off from the hospital, or going on a nice, leisurely walk to window shop. In sumertime she especially enjoys going out and indulging a bit, and will often opt for the public pool to get her sun and lounge-chair time!

Xo’to - Xo’to is like their mother in that they enjoy just hanging out int he shade, though far more covered up for how easily they dry out and burn. They love getting in the water though, and love taking long walks up and down the beach just enjoying the sea breeze and collecting pretty shells. Even as an adult they are still happily building more refined sand castles, or browsing the seaside market, or looking out at the ocean on the pier! They almost never go tot he beach alone though, it’s far too boring to do that! If they stay till night and the energy is high, they might dance out under the stars.

Outside the beach, Xo’to has a somewhat on-and-off relationship with summer. If it’s too hot, they stay in and just relax at home with movies, studying, or watching movies. When the weather permits, they go out with a parasol to ice cream shops, go shopping, visit public gardens, or maybe go to the aquarium. Either way, they always visit some sort of sweets shop, and will go out to visit friends and family. Maybe they'll go bug their boyfriend to come out shopping with them and get ice cream together~

A sweet little treat for the boys <3

Larik likes waking up early.

Likes watching the first few shy rays of light falling through the curtains and onto Vlassk's sleepy face. They way they tickle and make him grimace and crawl further into the pillows.

He likes watching his tentacles curl and twist idly into the sheets; gripping and unconsciously searching for contact. Likes listening to his slow, steady breaths and sweet little snores.

Likes to see his frills fluttering and his face relaxing when he reaches for him and entangles their tentacles. Likes to hear that little sigh when Vlassk returns the touch and pulls the limb to his chest. Cradles it like something precious.

Loves the way Vlassk's mind so easily and naturally opens to his own; the way it lingers and brushes against his own as if refusing to part with Larik even while asleep.

Smiling, Larik carefully shifts and shuffles closer; lifting an arm to wrap and hug around Vlassk and pull him against his chest.

Vlassk makes a small, grumpy noise and wrinkles his face, but only for a moment. As soon as his sleepy brain realizes he's not being woken up, he happily settles back into the sheets and cuddles against Larik. Vlassk lets out another content sight that makes Larik's heart melt and his mind sparks with joy.

Adorable, he thinks and leans down to nuzzle the top of his head; feeling his frills fluttering once more and making him snicker quietly.

There's a displeased tremble in Vlassk's mind, followed by another grumbling sound and then he moves. Barely a moment later, his mismatched gaze meets Larik's and offers a sweet, sleepy smile.

“G' mornin'”, he mumbles with a little stretch before curling right back into his chest. His own rumbles with a quiet purr and Larik happily joins in.

“Good morning my sweet siren”, he says and kisses his cheek; prompting another one of those adorable little giggles out of him he can never get enough of. “Slept well?”

Vlassk nods. “Of course”, he says and leans up to press a little kiss to his cheek. “With you on my side, always.”

Larik hears and feels the warmth and truth behind those words and is left speechless; tentacles curling and tingling and face turning into a soft, fond smile. “As do I”, he says and cradles Vlassk's face between his hands, and realizes that he never ever wants to miss this again – never wants to miss Vlassk in his life.

“I love you”, he can't help but say and pull him close; tentacles twining and mind mingling. He hears a tiny, surprised yelp and then another sweet giggle. Feels Vlassk's tentacles curl around his own and his arms wrapping around his shoulders to return the embrace.

“Love you too”, he answers just as naturally and easily and presses a kiss to his collarbone, and Larik feels like the happiest man alive.
