Hi there! How about Constance and 10, 23, or 40 - feel free to pick your favorite or combine them!
Hi! I actually don't know which ask game you're replying to, but I'm going to assume you were doing this one
Those three prompts gave me an idea...
The Last Night
The night air was cold. She had been given a blanket, but even with the extra layer she shivered. She was tired and cold, she didn't know where her dad was, and worst of all, everything was quiet. Nothing was supposed to be quiet, not with her powers, but when the device had been pointed at her...
Vaguely, she could feel someone's eyes on her. She didn't dare look up, so she didn't know whose eyes they were but she had an idea. It was the man who tried to kidnap her, take her powers, take it all.
Leopold Montgomery Pressius. Apparently not content with trying to take her family, he kidnapped her sister and her and took them to the warehouse where another person had run experiments. The police had arrived, but by then it had been too late. She closed her eyes as she heard the police car drive away, taking Pressius with it.
"Miss Contraire?" She looked up at the scientist in front of her. He was in his early thirties, short but still not as small as her, with black hair and brown eyes. He held a clipboard in one hand and a wicker basket in the other. Setting down the basket, he held the clipboard in both hands "I have two pieces of bad news and one good. Would you like to hear the bad news first or the good?"
"Bad news first. Both of them." He cleared his throat and looked down at his papers.
"The bad news is that you can never get your powers back." He glanced back at her. "And the other bad news: since you are a minor, you can't stay with your sister. I'm sorry."
"NO!" She buried her hands in her hands. "No, no, no! I promised I would protect her! I promised my parents, I can't let them down, I can't-can't-" She broke down crying. She had to break the last promise she made to her parents. The man then surprised her by bending down and giving her a hug.
"Again I'm sorry. I can't even begin to imagine what you're feeling. But there's a bright side." He pulled the basket closer to him, pulling the blanket back. Inside was a baby with wispy blond hair and blue eyes, a contrast to the girl’s brown hair and now dull eyes.
"The good news is...he didn't get to her. She's intact."
Relief swept through her like a river. "Oh." She wiped away her tears, clutching the basket with her free hand. "That is good news. At least she's okay."
Someone called for the man, and he looked behind him in frustration. "I have to go. I don't know when we can see each other, but I hope you know: that even without your powers, you are capable of almost anything you set your mind to."
She shifted her blanket so that it covered the baby’s basket. "Thanks. I hope we can meet again, Doctor Kizuki."
"As with you, Clementine." He walked away, still shuffling papers on his clipboard.
Clementine pulled the basket onto her lap. Her baby sister stared back with the same bright blue eyes she once had, now dulled down to sort of gray.
“Don’t worry, Kroshka. Everything will be okay, I promise. You will find a good family, explore your powers, and find love. Okay?” She kissed the baby’s head. “I love you so much. Never forget that, Connie.”
She looked into the stars as police sirens wailed on.
