Fenlin feels confident in his pace making his way through the trials of this prison of Solas’s making, confronting tough decisions and moving past his regrets. Saying goodbye to his friends is hard, but he knows what these specters are saying isn’t true…

“How dare you.”

That voice… Fen’s brow furrows in confusion as he turns his head in the direction is came from, trying to will the Fade to manifest the speaker. “Mamae?” It can’t be. She’s…she’s not dead. He just spoke with her.

“You left me, Fenlin. When our home needed you most, you left us all. Now your mothers and siblings have to fight this blight you spread. How dare you!” Harea’s anger shakes the stone of this prison and Fen’s eyes widen in fear that she may make the Fade itself come down on him.

“Mamae, no, I—“

“You abandoned us!” His mother’s angry, desperate voice causes Fenlin to stumble up the steps with a yelp of surprise.

“I did not!” Fen stands his ground, stubbornly pouting though his heart races in fear of arguing with the powerful force that is his mother. “I left to help. To save the world. My mother is the Inquisitor. She knows what she has to do, and she would never blame me for this! It took her so long, but she’s learned to let me go.” As Fen’s confidence grows, he begins climbing the steps again, ready to face the image of his mother. “She knows the part I have to play.”

Harea’s shorter figure stands surrounded by mostly faceless figures—except those of his other mother and younger siblings. “A Keeper’s job is to keep his family safe. All of them,” she says softly.

“And sometimes that means leaving them. Mamae, I promise you, I will come back home. Just like you will.” Fen always feels like the little boy he was when he ran away—when he got himself killed—whenever he faces his mother like this. As her visage fades away and a sense of peace washes over him, Fen braces himself for what this prison will throw at him next.

SandWing Royalty OCs of mine!! finally started making headway on my headworld’s royalty lore and characters. it’s really hard to write and plan out a world when you don’t even know who the political leaders are and what they’re like LMAO. so this is the first (part of the) royal family i’m introducing from my world!! meet Queen Nettle and Princess Harea!

Harea was a kept adopt (image 4) because nobody bought her and when my designs go unbought i seriously consider keeping them. it happened this time because she looked exactly like what i had in my head for my SandWing royal family so it worked out really well. She fills the role of the Queen’s youngest daughter, who i originally named Hazel until I read Poison Jungle and discovered there was already a Princess Hazel and canon so nevermindddd Harea it is 💪

I designed Nettle off of Harea and off of her super duper old og design from like 2-3 years ago. Didn’t like that much at all but it worked as a blueprint to jump off of! and i am quite happy with her design now. peep my design of the Eye of Onyx on her btw (in addition to authentic Fluorite jewelry i had to reference bc i got the colors wrong LOL)

Does your OC have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?

Adasha is an only child, although Tamlen was like a brother to her. 

Toni obviously has two siblings, and she was probably slightly closer to Bethany, but she wasn’t super close to either of the twins growing up as their age gap often meant that she was more of an unenthusiastic babysitter than a playmate.

Enaste has three younger siblings:

Ellas, 27, is a hunter for Clan Lavellan (class-wise he would be an archer), although his true passion is making music. He’s married to a former city elf, Effe, and they have two daughters with a third on the way when Enaste leaves for the Conclave. Ellas is a romantic and is less bookish and practical than his older sister. He has been best friends with @rozzwil’s Ishavun since they were 7 and 8 respectively.

Harea, 25, is a hunter just like her older brother. She is trained as a warrior (sword and shield) and so is also on the front line if the clan is ever attacked. She has the most serious demeanor of all Enaste’s siblings and because of this her and Ellas clashed often as kids.

Asvhalla, 21, is the baby of her siblings, and she definitely acts like it. She is the only other one of Enaste’s siblings who is a mage. She has spent the last five years training as a healer (a job she both enjoys and excels at) and also helps grow/gather/trade for the clan’s food (a job she enjoys far less and is not particularly good at).

How quick is your OC to trust someone else?

Adasha is quick to trust; she’s very young and optimistic and sees the best in everyone. She also believes that she’s strong enough to protect herself (physically and emotionally) if her trust is misplaced.

Toni just...doesn’t trust people. She probably doesn’t even truly, wholly trust Merrill, despite how much she loves her.

Enaste is quick to be kind, but slow to trust.

What do you consider the biggest themes in your OCs, if any?

I’m not sure if they have an overarching theme between them all, I purposely set out to make them all quite different people with different strengths and struggles.

We have two universes here, and both of them have an extra OC for flavor. Canon: Harea (Warden), Thea (Hawke), Asha (Inquisitor), and Henry (Asha’s brother)

Self Indulgence AU: Sophie (Warden), Gavin (Hawke), Ophelia (non-Warden Cousland, the Queen), Rose (non-Inquisitor Cullen romance). Where’s the Inquisitor here? She ran off with Solas. We don’t talk about her.

Fanfic appreciation day!!! I wanted to draw Harea and Alistair for @ma-sulevin's birthday and completely failed, so I thought I would take the opportunity to draw them for today! MaSul, your writing is pure and beautiful. Once I started reading Scars Beyond Counting, I couldn't put it down. It is one of my all time favorites. I’ve always wanted to be more supportive of the other creators in the fandom but I’m a slow reader and I have a shit memory. I can’t remember who writes what, what OC belongs to who, or if I’ve read something already. I decided to start tracking the works I was reading as a draft, just for my own reference, so I can participate in ask memes and stuff. But apparently it’s Fic Writer’s Appreciation Day, so I thought I’d share it!

This is no where near a complete list of fic I’ve read or enjoyed, just what I’ve read since I started doing this. I will continue to update it as I read. If you’re a mutual and/or someone who reads my fics please reach out and tell me to read your stuff if you’re not on this list!!

@blarfkey AO3 Solas/Ellana Lavellan  Dear Fen’Harel is the cutest damn thing. It’s supposed to be inspired by Dear Daddy Long Legs? Which I can only assume is cuter than it sounds, based on this fic. It’s not quite done, but getting close. There’s a museum date chapter that’s to die for.

@broomclosetkink AO3 Solas/Ellana Lavellan and Solas/Harea Lavellan I think this was the first Solavellan fic I ever read, and I’ve gone back to it a dozen times. I was frustrated with the relationship in game and had to google where people did fanfiction these days. NSFT, because that’s definitely was I was looking for at the time x.x

@ellstersmash​ AO3 Solas/Athi Lavellan I’ve only read one of fics so far but it was lovely! Some big Solavellan angst simmered down to give you just as much pain in smaller word counts lol. Great characterization of Solas, and Athi is very fierce.

@elveny AO3 Solas/Lyssa Lavellan (born in an alienage) Her Spark of Hope timeline covers Lyssa’s life from early childhood up to and including Trespasser, and honestly of all the fics I’ve read I think this is the most I’ve ever felt connected with the author through the work. What she chooses to touch or focus on reminds me so much of my own experience in the fandom.

@bardinhightown AO3 Solas/Naia Lavellan A very cute Beauty and the Beast AU set in France, called La Belle et La Bête and set in France. Not quite complete, but almost there. I really like the interpretation of the curse. I think the Lavellans count as human in this one? Open to interpretation I suppose.

@keturagh AO3 Solas/Pangara Lavellan Ket (frequently blamed) is working on a big Lore Meta I’m majorly looking forward to. In the mean time, they have many small fics covering the course of Pangara and Solas��� relationship, from domestic to kinky AF, through the Inquisition timeline.

@luzial AO3  Solas/Ellana Lavellan I powered through Luzial’s (and Maerisk’s) Overgrown faster than I’ve read anything in a long time. Ellana is a reporter and Solas is her expert consultant. No where near complete if I had to guess, but you gotta love a fic with both Enemies to Lovers AND Fake Dating.

@roguelioness tumblr AO3 Solas/Samarra Bayart, Solas/Thalia  and Elise/Cullen A Whole New World is a longfic of a modern woman falling into Thedas, with dark!Solas. Very long, and more to come. For Goodness Bakes is absolutely adorable. She’s also got some Cullen/Trevelyan and some Krem/Maryden. 

@thevikingwoman tumblr AO3 Solas/Iwyn Lavellan One of my best friends in the fandom, Viking has dozens of drabbles, perfect bite size pieces of friendship or romance for when you just need a moment to unwind. She’s got a very gentle Solavellan fix it I recommend. Iwyn is a dom can be found in canon, modern AU, or the ice skating AU!

WIP Whenever

Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m hoping to get back to writing soon. I hit a major wall, but I’m hopefully pushing through it! I was tagged by both @tejaswrites and @ammocharis to share what I’ve been working on! This is part of the next chapter for If It’s True, my pre-veil, Elvhenan story featuring my OC, Nehna. 

The weeks after the bonfire were quiet and somber. The enslaved kept their heads down as they worked away, worried of causing any disturbances that might draw unwanted attention to them. It became a nightly occurrence for the bunkers to be filled with screams as loved ones were whisked away by masked figures cloaked in black. Men, women, children- no one was safe. 

Whatever was going on in the front lines was beginning to affect those back home. Those close to the Disappeared, as they were called, were left with the uncertainty of whether or not their loved ones died as a result of experiments of Ghilan’nain, or fighting against the Titan. 

Nehna ate, hunched over her bowl of mush, avoiding onlookers as they whispered behind her back. She knew what they were thinking- they wanted her to act faster, but her hands were tied, and so people were frustrated. Already, women had reached out to her, begging her to use her influence with Dirthamen to get any information about their Disappeared. Every time, Nehna’s answer was the same: she had no power- no leverage to gather such information from Dirthamen. She was his champion in title only. She still belonged to him, and she couldn’t demand such things. 

The rumors were the worst of it all. That she was sleeping with Dirthamen to earn his favor; that she sympathized too much with free elves, especially that Solas character. The excited anticipation that had hung in the air since her last announcement faded away with the growing numbers of disappearances. It was understandable and predictable that they would turn their frustrations on Nehna, but it didnt make such insults any easier to take. 

“Just ignore them, Nehna,” Aria whispered from beside her as Nehna took a sip of the burned coffee. “They are just grieving. They don’t mean it.” 

Aria wasn’t sure of the grimace Nehna wore was a result of the coffee or her own internal feelings.

“I, too, am grieving, and you don’t see me starting rumors,” Nehna muttering, pushing around the greyish muck in her bowl, very much lacking an appetite at the mixture of emotions and the texture of the food before her. 

“Yes, but that would be unseemly of a leader, would it not?” Aria teased, trying to remind Nehna of her overall mission. Her friend had been in a daze since losing Hareas. While her drinking had decreased significantly, Nehna was more of a walking shadow than a person. That alone broke Arianaya’s heart.

Sylathi’s favorite pastime is smoking, especially while painting, and I can see her totally geeking out over her toes and end up drawing her toes instead. 

Thelrand is very meticulous about his appearance so in a world where there aren’t many mirrors, someone’s gonna catch him staring at armor just to have a chance to look at himself.

Modern!Tamralan is such a DadTM so he would probably have baby pictures as well as pictures he stole off of Facebook. Don’t tell his children.

I really like this one because I never gave it much thought before, but it’s so adorable, I’m going to accept it. Runale would probably either keep a small trinket - something he whittled, maybe - or wear one of his jackets or a scarf, either around her neck or tied around her waist or something. She loves that boy so much

Harea never featured once in our modern!AU, but I can totally see this. She’s such a tough and determined woman and won’t let any man tell her otherwise.

Yeah, I can see this. But she doesn’t like so much noise either. Background noise is good. Someone breathing. Humming a tune. Listening to the clash of swords as recruits train and spar. Complete silence invites nightmares and doubt.

Fen: he may have died in game, but in his canon he’s having a great time. He’s keeper of his clan, one of his younger sisters is first, he’s got a big buff bf named Tarsyl. Shits good. I’m proud of him.

Harea, my current da rpg oc, and Fen’s mama: she’s got a lot going on rn. Dealing w the loss of her son. An attack on their clan left them with low numbers. She’s a v traditional dalish, and the rest of her clan wants to just join this avvar clan they’d been living near/with for the last couple years. One of her young daughters is a mage and is now left with no one to teach her. So she takes her family and heads to Ostagar which King Alistair had given to the dalish, in hopes of finding a new clan. This lil family of 4 joins clan Lavellan. And Harea’s got some new info that this man she’s after who’s fucked up so many peoples lives is still doing it and she’s just getting angrier and angrier. There’s just a lot on her plate and she’s very good at burying it and I think she might explode one day......

Uhh some new lore came out for destiny for the winter event and man. Keye was definitely one of the guardians that’s a dick to uldren. The rest of his fireteam/family intervenes n stuff but yeah. RIP in pieces uldren.

Neither Niamh nor Dasha really remembers their family very well, so they aren’t sure what traits they share with them :(

Toni and the twins all look a lot alike! They’re all about the same height (~5’10”) and inherited a lot of Leandra’s features. Toni and Carver especially look alike: they both got Malcolm’s eye shape, stronger jaw, and his stockier build.

Enaste has features in common with all of her siblings: They all have the same hooded eyes, they’re all tall for elves (ranging from her sister Harea who is just barely above average elf height to her brother Ellas, who’s a giant lmao) and they all have a slight overbite. Enaste, Ellas, and Asvhalla all have their mother’s hair (dark, ash brown, wavy) and Harea’s hair is the same color as theirs but straighter. (rozzwil drew Enaste and her siblings here!)

🎂: Does your OC have any contradictory interests or traits to the first perception people have of them? How do they surprise people?

Once Niamh is comfortable around someone she usually opens up a lot more, so I think she surprises people in how personable she can actually be! People assume she’s really quiet (which she is, around strangers) but once you’re her friend she’s more than happy to blab on at you all day!

Dasha, I think, is the opposite of Niamh, in that she seems very intense and bold in battle but is actually shy and sweet irl, so someone who met her when she was doing her Hero Posturing would be very surprised that she’s actually very much a sweet, average, 19-yr-old girl underneath that!

Toni is all posturing, to the point that I don’t think they’re even familiar w who they are under the surface. So I don’t think most people (even her partners) really get to see the other side of them. She can be really protective and sweet toward her partners and her family, which I think seems contradictory to how flippant she acts most of the time.

Enaste is usually a pretty “what you see is what you get” kinda gal, except in diplomatic/formal situations, in which case I don’t think people like Empress Celene are privy to her actual personality lmao.

🥃: If your OC was in this universe, what would be their favorite show/book/band/social media platform?

This one’s hard, I feel like I watch so little shows and use so little social media it’s hard for me to decide that for them!

I think for shows/books Niamh would be into fantasy and romance, because she really enjoys coming up with fantastical stories. I actually think she’d actually really like Dragon Age! She seems the most likely of my OCs to use tumblr.

Dasha would enjoy Instagram I think. She’s very adventurous and it would be a good way to chronicle all the new places she goes and the fun stuff she tries! For music I think she’d like pop from a variety of eras, upbeat alternative/indie music, and hyperpop.

It’s honestly hard to picture Toni knowing how to operate a computer, let alone social media lmao. I think for music they’d really enjoy 80s and 90s alternative, punk, and funk! They'd also be really into funky early-2000s video games like SSX3!!

For book/show genres, I think Enaste would also enjoy fantasy, as well as historical dramas. I think she’d prefer non-fiction stuff though, mainly about history, language, and anthropology!
