If terror is the feeling of dread and apprehension at the possibility of something frightening and horror is the shock and repulsion of seeing the frightening thing, name a time your character has been terrified and a time they were horrified. How did they deal with these emotions? Was the terror, for example, unfounded, or the horror too much?

A time your character was terrified

I make a lot of "Sena's dead boyfriend" jokes, but the moments leading up to that were pretty much exclusively this. He doesn't know where his friend went, anticipates the worst, and then something he's been scared of up to that point actually happens.

For things that happen in-story, he has a few of these, but being left alone in Ultima Thule really freaks him out.

A time they were horrified

THIS ONE WAS ACTUALLY SUPER HARD TO ANSWER.

I want to say the massacre early in ARR, which got to him pretty bad; he starts to come out of being an "I only care about this one person" type edgelord, he starts getting along more with people, and then those people die and he goes right back to that.

Also slightly unusual one, but the combination of dragoon and having issues with his scales makes the conversation with Vrtra deeply unpleasant for him in a way that isn't quite horror, but comes close.

How did they deal with these emotions? Was the terror, for example, unfounded, or the horror too much?

Sena tends to deal with his negative emotions in general by covering them with anger and then not actually dealing with them, but even moreso when he's scared. Him wanting to be strong is an extension of this; he wants to protect his friends, but also, if he can fight it, he has agency in the situation.

Complete silence stops him in his tracks, though.

I spun The Merlinverse Interaction Wheel again and got the following prompt:

Your Merlin has a drink with ... Sena.

Well... Lavi isn't quite as social as Valen is and while she always tags along, she doesn't herself initiate meetings like this often. Of course she still does, for any or whatever reason, but in this instance, it really needed to be something special. xD

So she decided to go have a cup of tea with Sena to tell him that he'll be granddad soon! I think he's rather excited! xDDD Aaaand, maybe afterwards when on his own, the panic kicks in for him just as much as for Valen and so dad and son go out together for a drink with a bit more kick to it. xD

Bonus: Valen/Lavi kid in Valen's old childhood jacket, because Sena could not bring himself to throw it away.

A sweet little moment between Sena and Valen

This moment from the Winter Carnival hit me right in the feelings, istg.

Like in the Senaverse canon, it is such a meaningful and impactful moment for Valen. Sena has been gone for 10 long years and during that time Valen has tried so hard to get stronger. Wanting to be able to stand side by side with Sena, to fight alongside him, to protect him.

And then suddenly, his father is back. Memory wiped, and younger, and not quiet as powerful as he used to be, but still extremely capable. And Valen... Valen feels kinda disappointed in himself.

He trained so hard, put in so much effort, came so far from that little boy Sena first adopted all those years ago. And yet it wasn't enough. He's still not as strong as his dad, still can't measure up to him. And he feels frustrated and a little bitter, because since being assigned as Sena's escort he's been acting more as his tour guide than his knight or guardian.

The General has asked me to protect you. Not that you need it...

Between Ryeham, the Dark Forest, and the Remnant Peaks, Valen feels like he hasn't gotten the chance to truly prove himself to his dad yet. Feels like he hasn't really earned Sena's respect, like the mage still sees him as that weak little kid that needs to be coddled and protected.

So for this to be Sena's gift to him...it's weirdly validating. The idea that this is how his dad sees him, not as a child but as a capable young warrior. One who's as swift and fearless as lightning. It feels like an affirmation. Like an acknowledgement of his abilities and how far he's come.

And maybe a small blessing... Not from a god, or from the great Merlin, but from a father who wants to see his son grow and prosper and succeed...
