Sorry if you’ve answered before, but how did you name Nico and Niners? And by extension, all of your cast of characters; is there an approach to naming you often use?

Nico and Niners are named after a song by Twenty One Pilots! I felt like those suit them pretty much and the song fit them too (even tho it's not sung from their perspective).

As for the other characters (and just characters in general), I usually come up with designs first and then painstakingly spend some time picking and choosing names and last names that go well together and suit the character. In some cases this process is quicker 'cause something just clicks between the name and what I have in mind for the character but in some other cases it takes a while.

(As a little aside: for the longest time I had this running joke where I would regularly forget Maryleen's name (she's the stern blond sergeant lady) for some reason and that birthed "Mary who?" or "Don't know her" memes among friends and close followers shsjdj)

When it comes to android names, I usually go for something that sounds less human in most cases (tho Mitchel is an exception). For example, N0n or Niners.

Niners' name in-universe has an explanation btw! When Nico was first introduced to him, let's say he uhhh wasn't a big fan so he didn't take his new work partner's naming request seriously. He just looked at the model number - 9RS - peeking from under the collar of Niners' shirt and went with that but put a more human spin on it, if it makes sense. Nico didn't know that he would actually come to love both the new robo-partner and the name he gave him later in the story.

There's also a pretty neat little thing going on with Nico and use of the name he gave Niners but I won't spoil anything 👀 just be on the lookout for that when I'll release the comic 👀

On paper Nicole/Nick sounds really nice to me, but in practice I can’t really get used to it since I initially used Foehn while thinking or writing about her, which fits her better in my head. Only problem is that Foehn is my own alias and it also stands out too much. Too main-charactery which kinda bothers me. In either case she doesn’t have a last name, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Houdin/Houdini (neutral, masc-ish) - Based off Harry Houdini, famous magician

Blaine (neutral) - Based off David Blain, famous magician

Gale (femme) - Means "gust of wind"

Iris (femme, neutral) - Means "rainbow", also the name of the colored part of the eye and the name of the eye of the storm

Raiden (neutral) - Means "thunder and lightning"

Aspen (femme, neutral) - Type of tree

Briar (neutral) - Type of bush

Birdie (femme) - Means "bird", also a golf term

Arden (neutral) - Means "valley of the eagle" or "great forest"

I got an X-Men Oc that needs a hero name! The have multiple mutations due to being forced into an experiment that gave her the following powers:

-Telekinesis

-telepathy

-mind control

-enhanced senses

-foresight

I don’t want them to have an overly feminine name as he’s genderfluid and I want to avoid copying any pre-existing X-men names. Can you help?

Upfront I have to say that I wouldn't know if my suggestions might be existing x-men names since I'm not familiar with this media, so I'm very sorry for having limited scope on what I can suggest here. If any X-men fans wanna pitch in once this ask is published you're welcome and encouraged!

I'd probably try to think of something that incorporates all these super senses, there's a clear sort of theme even with the various different super abilities...

Oracle, maybe? I don't have alot of knowledge on how hero names work for this universe unfortunately. I really love that they're genderfluid though! A great touch of representation and I think it also adds onto the character vibe what with being a sort of "all knowing" esque character :)

Would probably help if I knew what sort of persona the hero here is trying to evoke, and if they fall on the "Mysterious and all knowing" or "Cool and active" or even dipping into being unethical? Hope any of this helped though!
