- glass chalet was named after a wilbur soot song . yes , that guy . glass chalet pre-dates that dumpster fire.
- they’re based off how I remembered my long hair looking as a kid.
- glass has no physical expression ever, nor do they blink. they will occasionally close their eyes for long periods but -> long closed eye periods ≠ blinking
- they don’t really talk , ever . said “ hey “ once and that was it . good for them i guess

The chalet was made of sturdy wood, with a sloping roof to let the snow slide off. The windows are framed with wooden shutters, and smoke gently curls from the chimney, indicating a fire inside. The chalet was made of sturdy wood, with a sloping roof to let the snow slide off. The windows are framed with wooden shutters, and smoke gently curls from the chimney, indicating a fire inside. Outside, the snow blankets the ground, creating a serene and picturesque scene. The surrounding trees are frosted with snow, and the only sounds you hear are the soft crunch of snow under your feet.
As glasses clinked in an open bar, Daniel scanned the room for his contact. When his eyes landed on a beautiful blonde woman at the bar, he cursed under his breath, “God please don’t be her”, he shook it off and made his way towards her, his suit was a warm grey, his tie was missing, collar unbuttoned. His smile was warm, and Courtney’s cheeks flushed when this dark haired and tall man approached her. She was conversating with a colleague and was momentarily silent. The other women looked at Courtney puzzled, “Please go on, and the minister would like to address, what?” the women asked.
Courtney looked at her again, being taller than some, she was used to looking down, but eye to eye with this man was in a word, intoxicating. Daniel stood at the bar a few chairs away, sipping his gin. And side-eyeing her with a quirked expression. Courtney continued with the women, “Yes, he wants to address concerns of the constituents on that matter, I’m sorry will you excuse me, please?” her softened Swiss accent could be caught by Daniel’s perceptive knowledge of dialects. Daniel did his best Swiss dialect impression when he asked her to ‘sit down with him’.
The warm features of the bar and lounge created an ambience of leisure and comfort. Wood and glass surrounding the whole room. Intricate features on walls, and doorways. Open beams hung above them, with pendulums of light hanging in midair it seemed between the large caber beams. Guests were jovial, but not loud, it was a relaxed Sunday evening after a political conference. Some retired to their rooms, and some stayed in the lounge.
Courtney stood against the bar, and looked at him, frankly, “You are supposed to ask me something, no?” her voice came up at the end in a classical Scandinavian way. Daniel smiled shyly, setting his glass down steadily.
“Ya, Du sollst sagen: Mochte ich etwas Schokolade?” (you are supposed to say, would I like some chocolat?)
Courtney warmed with laughter, “Na, geht es dir?” (Well, do you?)
Daniel looked at the bar, and then back at her, “If you’re offering.” (he switched back to English).
Courtney blushed again, slightly, and Daniel tried not to notice. Courtney knew he would be charming, they usually are, but she didn’t trust him.
A storm was due to hit the resort tonight, but living in this area it was all or nothing. Sometimes the cell passed you by and sometimes you were buried for days. It was Sunday evening, and most were leaving for home, so the resort would be all but deserted come Monday morning. Maybe that was why he was here, to tempt her into staying past, and revealing the secrets she had. Though she wanted a cozy snow tryst, she wasn’t sure, he was the one to do that for her. Oh, he was enticing to be sure, clean, handsome, nicely dressed, trying his best to act German, but that American confidence was too obvious to hide behind some simple dialogue.
Daniel saw her mind working overtime as they sat in silence momentarily, “Whatever you know, I can protect you,” he said boldly. Courtney chuckled at that, “Oh, really? So you think this is a state secret then, not just a rambling?”
Daniel looked at her in all seriousness, “I’m not here for ramblings, your intel is good, and I am here to collect you,”
Courtney looked at him shocked, but she tried to conceal it as she sipped her drink, “I see. Well, I don’t think I will agree to leave with you. You can take the information I have, that is all.  I will make my own way.” Daniel held his breath not wanting to make a snide retort. His hand drifted towards her on the bar, a paper concealed under his palm. Courtney, put her hand on his, and that spark seemed to get stronger, like a pulse of current running through her. Daniel drew his hand away, and she palmed the note.
“Just come find me when you are ready to talk.” He said, he finished his drink and stepped away from the bar, leaving Courtney by herself at the bar.
She found her coat at a table of colleagues and put it on as she exited onto the loggia. It was dark out on the snow, but silent, as the door closed behind her. Courtney shivered, but she wasn’t cold. A breeze kicked up her hair against her parka, and she pulled up her hood around her face framing it in fur. Courtney opened the note Daniel had given to her. It simply had his room number on it, and a code for something else, but she wasn’t sure what. It was a 4 digit code. 4152. His room number was 209. She noted that and tossed the paper into the air watching it catch in the breeze and float down to the snowy path below her. A car pulled up to the entrance below and pressed the paper further into the snow and gravel drive. Courtney amused re-entered the lounge through the glass door. She moved through the bar and headed to her room.
---
Daniel had retired to his room, to wait for her, though he wasn’t sure if she would come that easily. He knew what room she was in, but thought it was best to just wait and have her come to him. As long as she did it tonight. Tomorrow morning would be too much commotion when everyone from the conference leaves, including her.
He paced in the suite between the bed and the seating area, not sure what to do with himself. He hadn’t been this anxious in awhile and it drove him mad. He went to his duffle and took out his gun, clicking it, and checking the magazine, making sure the safety was on. Just busying his hands. A soft knock fell upon the door and Daniel looked up, sharply. He disengaged the gun, set it back into his bag on the dresser and stepped to the door.
“Yes?” he asked the door, looking through the peephole. Her golden locks flashed in the tiny lens, and Daniel’s eyes dilated instantly. Daniel unlocked the door and opened it, lazily hanging his hand at the top of the door, “Come in, I wasn’t sure you would stop by.” He ushered her in, checking the hallway as he closed the door and stood against it. Courtney turned to him, “I had the room, so I figured, it was worth a look”, she tried for a smile, but it looked more nervous than she actually was feeling.
The overhang of his loggia in his room created a looming shadow to the storm that was now well underway outside. The doors rattled in the wind a bit. Courtney was nervous now, she could be delayed getting home tomorrow if this storm didn’t let up by morning. Daniel watched her expression change when she looked out the glass doors to the patio.
“Is there something you want to tell me?” Daniel asked, curiously.
Courtney met his eyes this time, “Yes, you wanted me to tell you what I had for information, correct, and then I can leave, right?”
Daniel stepped towards her, she moved back a half step, even as she was nearly his height, he could still be intimidating. Daniel gave her a glowing smile to ease her apprehension, “I just need to hear it, and then I can let you know what is best for your safety, if we think you will be compromised by releasing the information to us, then I am assigned to protect you”, he smirked, looking at her hungrily, as his hand drifted towards her coat sleeve. Courtney tensed, mildly, “do you want me to take your coat?” he offered, trying to be hospitable, as he stepped clear of her and towards the makeshift bar he had made with a countertop and a mini fridge.
“Can I get you a drink?” Daniel asked her. Courtney shook her head, but realized that he wasn’t looking at her, “No, no I’m fine. Let’s just do this”, she gathered up her courage and sat down at the desk opposite the seating area.
Daniel turned to her, sipping some wine, from a tumbler glass, “Go ahead, I’m all ears.”
Courtney sighed, “Ok, my name is Courtney Roeber, I work for the Swiss Minister of Police, and I think he is involved in a scandal involving trafficking of youth from Kazakhstan,” she paused as Daniel’s eye brows furrowed, “As you probably know, Kazakstan is home to many different ethnicities’ so many different, well from a beauty and fertile standpoint, women and girls can look so very different and so very pretty, so I think he is importing them.”  Courtney, clutched her key card, rolling it over in her hand. Daniel sat down on the bed, closer to her.
“Look, I know this is a delicate matter, and I want to handle it as best I can. What made you make this link between Jans and the girls?” Daniel inquired.
Courtney looked at him and sighed, shoving her hand down her shirt and producing a thumb drive on a lanyard, “I have it in his correspondence, I run his books for him and too much money was going for “aid sponsorships” and then disappearing and reappearing into his personal holding accounts. So I copied the files, and ran them against his travel. Several dates matched up. It cannot be coincidence”. Daniel reached for the thumb drive, “Can I see it for myself?”
Courtney pulled on the lanyard and it broke free from her neck, she handed him the drive that dangled the end. Daniel took it whispering thanks, he smiled warmly and placed it into his tablet, clicking on files and scanning the data. He took out his phone and sent the files to HQ.
“Well, this all looks in order. And I see why they had to hire outside the scope. Im sorry if this compromises you, even morally”, Daniel said, placing a hand on her arm. Courtney still didn’t trust him, but he was being very nice. He wasn’t slamming her up ahainst walls or threatening her, or trying to kill her for the information. He just, asked. She smiled back at him.
“So I can go now, yes? I really should get packed up for tomorrow,” Courtney stood and Daniel stood too. His hand make it to her arm again, this time it squeezed a little.
His breath was near her face, “I don’t think you should go back to your room tonight. There may be someone out looking for you. I tracked several suspicious men on this floor just before you left the bar. Courtney froze a second, “Wait, how did you know when I left the bar?” Courtney rolled her eyes, “spies, all of you,” then she swore in German and moved away from him. Daniel let go of her. Courtney walked out of his room and into the hallway, towards the stairwell to her own floor. Daniel stared as the door closed, and chuckled to himself, “She’ll be back, but in the meantime, I have the intel.” Daniel called into HQ and gave his report, sent the files, made sure to copy them and then discarded the thumb drive in the room safe punching in the code, 4152. It clicked and locked with a beep. He closed the closet door and sorted himself out for the night. Tucking his gun under his pillow. He laid in bed and stared up at the ceiling.

Deirdre Ficlet
In a server, there was a prompt about how OCs react to being in a crowd or needing alone time. I had started writing an answer and it turned into a short little ficlet. I figured I'd put it here under a read more.
The night was cold and bitter, with roaring wind that tore through tall snow-covered pines and down the steep mountainside. The brilliant moon overhead illuminated, but it gave no warmth. Inside of the grand Whitetail Chalet, however, a vibrant glow of warmth and life radiated outwards with the happiness within.
A wintertime celebration had returned for the first time since the owners’ return. Old friends and acquaintances met in the great hall, packed and dressed in finery. There they sang and ate and laughed in defiance of the weather outside the walls.
The din of the jovial crowd that filled the hall overwhelmed even the crackle of the great fireplace. Voices jostled, danced and piled upon one another until all meaning but the good nature of the speakers was lost to the ear. The speakers themselves, happy and warm, filled the chalet hall with a vibrancy not seen or heard in some time. A party to life well lived, cozy and thriving amid the cold and snow capped mountain that loomed over Tall Pine Island.
For a moment that noise spilled outward into the night. The great door of the balcony opened out into the striking cold. The revelers, in their assorted focus and disorientation alike, never noticed.
The noise cut out with the closing of that door. The dance of purple silhouette and orange firelight played out behind the thick glass panes and dark wooden lattice. Silence now, for the young woman watching the party from the cold and bitten balcony. Silence but for the wind that blew across her face, forcing her to lift the cowl of her cloak against the gust.
For Deirdre Whitetail, the whip of the wind and winter was less a trouble than the weight of sociableness behind the glass door. Inside were questions. How to stand? Am I talking too much? Am I not talking enough? What face is this and how do they know me? Am I imposing if I stand close? Will I insult them if I look them in the eye, or if I look away? Outside there were none of these plaguing worries. Outside she had wind to contend with and a warm cloak to guard her. However, a blast of sharp wind disheveling her pink hair did suggest that next time she may want to bring her cap. At least this lesson was not one that came with the stigma of social faux pas.
But is this not what I wanted? Deirdre’s own question rattled in her heart as she watched the festivities. Not long ago she stood in that empty cavern of a room with naught but ghosts of her mistakes and ghosts of her ancestral legacy looking down upon her. That dread emptiness was the spark that sent her abroad once more to find the Restoration. To find old allies and face the new enemies that rose the world over.
She left a chalet to find a home. And now she returns home to find a chalet. One with happy people that she doesn’t know sitting on couches and chairs where once her and close allies drank chocolate and discussed their next raid on an Eggman base. Where once her teammates drove her red in the face over her choice of a gold chalice for a drinking cup. Mockery, yes, but one that came from people who mattered to her.
Those people were not among the guests in the hall. Those in the hall were her parent’s people. They were important ones, good ones even, but not her’s.
Deirdre’s fist balled at the thought. Her heart quailed. She turned from the balcony window and strode to the heavy wooden railing. She couldn’t be so callous. She shouldn’t be so selfish. They did nothing to her. And here she was rejecting them. She leaned against the rail, snow falling down to thud softly on the ground below. She watched as the clump landed and folded in with the blanket of white. And she looked up and out toward the glittering lights of the harbor town below. Were those people lesser than the ones in the hall? Were they more important?
Did it matter either way?
Her leap was near soundless. Her cloak fluttered in descent. The snow softened her landing. She left the chalet behind. Frustration writ upon her face, she stormed toward the treeline. The night winds set her cloak billowing behind her, but she strode forward through the dense snow and away from the grand chalet. She needed distance. She needed to think. And for that, she needed to be alone. So she headed toward a small clearing carved near her home. A private practice field away from the joyful party.
Twin hafts bounced on her hips. She pulled them from their straps and twirled them like batons. Brilliant blue light burst to life from each baton, and on both of them the light settled into the form of twin radiant ax heads. A gift from an ally during Eggman’s invasion, they were to replace her original familial weapon. Technological wonders that cut through badniks with ease. They could cut through branches and practice targets just as well. Streaks of light trailing with each cut and spin. Deirdre’s elegant footwork and sweeping slashes were a dervish that matched the thoughts inside her head.
She saw the empty hall with herself alone in the long shadows of a longer day of solitude. A world of metal gleamed outside of her walls; a testament to her failures and cowardice. A punishing separation from others. Her penance for fleeing the metallic horde. Alone. Here she was alone, but felt no horror or sadness
She saw the inside of a sundered basement. A warm city along the waterfront. She and a dozen others looked over a map of the region. Each spot marked with pins, toothpicks, and a soda can to represent a goliath. Plans made in those tight places, crowded places, where fear and hope were just as crowded as they were themselves. Planning for the next day’s struggle. She was crowded, but with allies, and friends.
She saw another city, teeming with life. Not long ago. People who fought, people who survived, people who now moved onward from the bad times and with the good. Not in a celebratory way like those in the chalet, but in the dogged reality that life must go on for those who made it through the darkness. She was crowded then, and yet felt nothing like she had in the chalet. She felt a part of something alive. Not among friends, but not alone.
A flash of her own ax splitting a branch brought Deirdre back to reality. Her dance slowed, she stood. Heavy breaths spilled clouds of white as she remained otherwise perfectly still. Flakes of fresh snow settled on her shoulders. The wind chilled her ears. She noticed that the bright moon cast darker shadows. That a bright night meant for darker spaces.
Deirdre snapped the ends of her two axes together. Connected, the two smaller blades fade and reform as a single double-bit. She used the blade as a torch in the night, to light the places where the moonlight couldn’t reach. The trees did their part to shield from the cold wind, and Deirdre’s cloak did much of the rest of the work to warm her. She stepped through the snow, sticking to the steps she took coming in. The force of her arrival dug small furrows. She left with more grace.
When the chalet once more loomed in the light of the moon; where she could again look down on the road that descended toward the glittering city harbor, Deirdre felt that sense of home again. With a touch she powered off her ax’s blade and rendered it once more a simple staff. A staff that she leaned her weight on as she took shelter beneath a support pillar for the same balcony she left by. She did not want to go back inside so quickly.
There were people inside. Happy people. People whom Deirdre was certain she would defend with her life. However, they were not her people. It was not selfish or cruel of her to admit that. And sometimes, she found that being alone may hurt, but it can also allow her to find herself.

Murphy McNully x Katriona Cassiopeia
A/N: Good things come to those who wait, right? 😅 Haha, kidding, not gonna lie, I'm a little ashamed that it took me almost (for actually?) half a year to come through with my promised Murtriona smut in exchange for the last smut piece my wonderful wifey put together for me. But if I promise something I come through with it, even if it might take a while. So, @kc-and-oc here you go, enjoy 💛💙 Katriona Cassiopeia and the anniversary headcanons obviously belong to @kc-and-oc
Warning: PURE AND FITHLY SMUT (with a hint of fluff but shhhh). If you're under 18 or do not feel comfortable with smut, DO NOT READ. All featured characters are of age and consenting.
Tumblr media
As far as Murphy was concerned, the day couldn’t have started better.
His wife Katriona and he had arrived in Italy just in time to witness the beautiful sunrise over the Amalfi coast.
The sea air in Italy smelled different than it did back home, Murphy thought to herself as they sipped on an espresso as black as the night on the huge balcony of the chalet KC had booked for their weekend getaway to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
It smelled like warm sand, sunlight, good food and wine, and an undisturbed few days with the love of his life.
They spent the day mostly outside, exploring the little Italian fishing village with its romantic, winding streets, only returning home when the sun had already begun sinking below the horizon.
Murphy had been enjoying his day, having caught maybe just a little too much wine and sun; he felt deliciously exhausted, but he was looking forward to giving KC her anniversary gift.
Each year they tried trumping each other in finding the most hilarious gift for the other, and this year, Murphy was quite confident in his choice - a gigantic coffee mug in the shape of his favourite chess piece, the white queen.
Somehow, KC didn’t seem to share his good mood anymore, however; attentive as always, Murphy hadn’t failed to notice that she had gone more and more quiet as the evening drew on. She was looking out over the waves beneath their balcony, turning the thin stem of her wine glass between her fingers.
“Your rate of words per minute has been steadily decreasing since we came back, my love,” Murphy said softly and leaned forward to take her hand into his. “Do you want to tell me what’s bothering you?”
KC tore her eyes away from the sea and a fleeting smile flickered over her face.
“It’s nothing,” she said, emptied her glass and stood up.
“Come inside,” she smiled and walked past Murphy, running her hand over his shoulder as she passed him, “I have a surprise for you.”
She led Murphy into the bathroom and turned on the taps on the big copper bathtub.
“Why don’t you go have a bath?” she said and kissed Murphy’s cheek. “The day has been exhausting, and I want you to relax.”
She turned from him, but Murphy caught her wrist and pulled her into his lap.
“I know a perfect way to relax,” he smirked and kissed his wife, drinking in the smell of sunlight on her skin and the taste of white wine on her lips.
But to his surprise, KC gently pushed him away and stood up again.
“Go and have your bath,” she said and walked out of the bathroom door, looking at him over her shoulder. “You’ll get your surprise afterwards.”
Confused by her rejection, Murphy pushed himself out of his wheelchair and into the scalding hot water. He hadn’t wanted to admit it, but the heat worked wonders on the tense muscles in his arms and shoulders.
KC must have known how exhausting a full day of exploring would be for him, and Murphy smiled to himself as he sank deeper into the fragrant water; she always knew what he needed.
When Murphy returned to their bedroom, the sun had almost gone down, plunging the room into twilight.
KC had shut the curtains except for the ones in front of the winged doors leading onto the balcony; the last rays of sun were shining in her back, turning her red hair into a mane of molten fire.
She was leaning against the doorframe facing him, wearing nothing but a silk robe and long, black velvet gloves; the sight took Murphy’s breath away.
“I like this surprise already,” he chuckled, his voice deep in his throat.
He pushed his wheelchair over to the window to draw his wife into his lap again, but she quickly sidestepped him, and laid a gentle hand onto his cheek.
She leaned in and kissed him, quick, but full of passion and promise; when she pulled away, Murphy’s head was spinning.
“Enjoy the show,” she whispered, before stepping out of his reach.
She closed the curtains with a quick motion, leaving only the flickering life of the candles she’d lit to illuminate the room. At the same moment, seemingly out of nowhere, a slow, compelling melody began to play.
Murphy’s eyes widened as KC slowly started moving to the music, her hands travelling up and down her silk robe at a painfully languid pace.
Her gaze was cast to the ground at first, as if she was gathering her courage, but when more and more instruments added to the melody, she raised her eyes and locked them with Murphy’s; the look in them was intense, enticing, and Murphy found the collar of his shirt suddenly too tight.
KC’s hands wandered up her bare thighs, slightly lifting the hem of her robe, and Murphy couldn’t avert his eyes. She reached for the knot keeping her silk robe together and very slowly pulled it open.
When the silk fell down from her pale shoulders, Murphy’s breath caught in his throat.
KC was wearing a stunning set of sapphire lingerie, one he’d never seen before. It hugged and accentuated her curves just right, and was the exact shade of blue of her eyes, which gleamed in the soft light of the candles.
She slowly walked over to him, her silk robe puddling all forgotten on the floor, but Murphy couldn’t care less. The bronze heels she was wearing elongated the legs Murphy loved so much, and were clicking on the stone floor in time with the beat of the music.
He couldn’t take his eyes off her, neither from the small heart-shaped scar on her thigh he’d kissed so often - but never often enough - nor from her swaying hips that made Murphy swallow in anticipation.
KC walked around him, her hand travelling along his shoulders, the ends of her hair brushing against the bare skin of his arms and neck.
The music had increased in pace, the singer’s voice dark and husky in Murphy’s ears, and KC stood in front of him again. She brought one of her gloved hands to her mouth and caught the black velvet on her middle finger with her teeth.
She pulled the glove off very slowly, her eyes fixed on Murphy. She leaned forward, loping the velvet glove around the back of his neck; it felt warm and soft on his skin, and Murphy shuddered as KC pulled on it slightly to draw him in, a direction he was only too eager to follow.
He could smell her perfume and feel her breath on his lips, but before Murphy had the chance to kiss her, the music did a sudden turn, and so did KC.
She turned around in time with the music, the heels over her shoes gliding over the floor. She buried her hands in her flaming red curls and raised her arms, giving Murphy a perfect view of her backside.
The way she moved her hips left and right in fluent motions was almost too much for Murphy to bear, and when she bent forward, shooting a cheeky glance over her shoulder, he couldn’t resist any longer.
He laid his hands on her perfectly rounded hips and turned her around, pulling her into his lap. Her skin felt hot to the touch, like the fire of her hair was running through her veins as well, and when he kissed her this time, KC straddled him and kissed him back.
Her tongue brushed over his lips and Murphy opened them for her willingly, all of his senses completely intoxicated by her. He could feel the same passion and hunger in her kiss that was raging inside his own chest, but when he reached to undo the clasp of her elaborate bra, she clapped his hand away.
The music was still playing, and KC didn’t speak a single word, but she didn’t have to. The gleam in her eyes and the seductive smirk on her lips spoke volumes as she kissed Murphy a second time while climbing off his lap.
She kneeled down in front of him, and gently pushed his knees apart. She undid the buckle of his belt with nimble fingers, and Murphy shuddered when she ran her hand over him beneath the fabric of his trousers.
Murphy’s breath hitched and his head fell into his neck when she pulled down his clothes and took him into her mouth. She ran her tongue teasingly along his length, drawing patterns and circles as she moved her head.
Murphy buried his hands in her hair, but she knew exactly what kind of rhythm he preferred without him having to tell her. She looked up at him and they locked eyes, blue on grey, and the sparkle in them was enough to drive Murphy insane.
KC slowed, sensing that Murphy was close to losing control. Giving his tip one last flick of her tongue that made him inhale sharply, she let go of him.
Murphy reached out and cupped her cheek with his hand, running this thumb over her lips.
“I want you,” he said with a hoarse voice, “right now.”
With a smile, KC pushed to her feet and walked over to the sofa on the other side of the room. She shrugged off her bra and pants on her way, discarding them casually. Murphy couldn’t have cared less for the intricate lace landing in some forgotten place; he only had eyes for the perfect silhouette of his wife.
Katriona draped herself on the sofa in a way that looked too enticing to be even allowed, and Murphy took his time to admire every little detail of her, committing the picture to his infallible memory, so he would never forget how otherworldly beautiful she looked in his exact moment.
She ran her hand over the smooth skin of her stomach and up to her breasts in a lazy motion before extending her hand towards him and beckoning him closer with her finger.
“Do you want to sit and stare, or hold up to your promise?”
Not needing to be told twice, Murphy rolled his wheelchair over to her and pushed himself over onto the sofa next to her. KC’s hands were on him as soon as he was within her reach, unbuttoning his shirt and getting rid of everything that kept her from feeling his burning skin against hers.
Murphy laid on his back and pulled her on top of him. She straddled his hips all too gladly and when she bent down to kiss him, she gasped against his mouth as he ran his hands up her thighs, feeling how ready she was for him already.
She hummed against his lips as he began coaxing soft moans from her. When both of them weren’t able to wait a single moment longer, KC pushed his hand away and lowered herself on top of him.
She moved slowly at first, to the rhythm of the music. Murphy was tempted to close his eyes and lose himself in the feeling of her completely, but he found he couldn’t.
Her eyes had drawn him, put a spell on him, and burned himself too deeply into his heart and soul to look away, like they had for the first time so many years ago.
The feeling of KC’s hips grinding against his in this deliciously slow pace was new for both of them, but it brought a never before known intensity with him that made Murphy hold his breath. It was as if every second was drawn out, every single thing he felt intensified tenfold.
He had stopped listening to the slow music a long time ago, his mind too busy with focusing on the sight of KC moving on top of him, her red hair spilling over her shoulder. They were making their own music, they always had, and nothing sounded as beautiful to Murphy’s ears.
Murphy could feel his release coming, it wouldn’t take much more for him to get there, but he forced himself to breathe deeply, ignoring the tension building up inside his stomach with every thrust, every passing second.
KC wasn’t looking at him anymore; she had picked up in pace now, falling into a more familiar rhythm. Her head was dipped back into her neck, and her eyes were closed, her lips parted ever so slightly.
She was completely lost in the feeling of Murphy against her, his hands on her hips, her thighs, her back, her breasts, everywhere she could feel the touch of his strong hands.
With a gasp, she leaned forward abruptly as her high rolled over her, burying her face against Murphy’s neck. Her soft hair brushed over his chest, a stark contrast to the stinging in his arms where her nails dug into his skin.
The unexpected shift in her angle, along with the feeling of her tightening around her was too much for Murphy to control anymore. He wrapped her arms around her back, not sure who the racing heartbeat he felt belonged to, KC or himself.
He kissed her passionately as he came undone beneath her, riding his high for as long as he could. When he felt the tingling in his whole body subside and his heart had stopped racing, Murphy loosened his arms around KC, and smiled as she gently kissed him a last time.
“Now that’s what I call an anniversary gift,” he chuckled and brushed one of the curls that stuck to her forehead out of her face. “I’m afraid my gift to you won’t be able to compare. I stuck to the funny theme.”
KC laughed softly and climbed off him, wrapping herself into her silk robe again.
“Don’t worry,” she purred and ran her finger down the middle of Murphy’s chest. “You’ll find your gift hilarious. This here was extra.”

Home: Jacob Seed/OC Chapter 22
(Mara is sitting on a wooden bench around the side of John’s large chalet. She is staring at her silver love heart necklace. Joseph and Faith left a little while ago. They had finally stopped asking her questions about the bruises. Tears sting her eyes. She sighs. John suddenly appears and sits down next to her.). John: I wondered where you’d got to. Mara: Still here. John: That was quite something wasn’t it? Mara: What was? John: The way you shot that man. The way you took on the other one. Mara: They could have killed us. They could have killed you, my sister... John: I’m not saying what you did was wrong... Mara: I don’t care what you think. I did it. I’d probably do it again too. John: You were very angry. Mara: Yeah. I get like that. John: Your sin is Wrath. Like your jacket says. Mara: Yep. Probably is. But I ain’t gonna apologise for protecting my sister. You’d do the same for your brothers and I know they would for you. John: Would they? (He doesn’t sound too sure.). Mara: Of course they would.
(There is silence for a moment. Mara opens the love heart and John realises it is actually a locket. There is a photo of a young Faith inside.). Mara: I made a promise to protect her. I wanted to make sure that she didn’t have to go through what I did. I was so worried. I was worried that she would be put in the basement with me. That she would go through what I had. When she wasn’t and I realised that my parents seemed to care for her I was so relieved. I was glad that she was being looked after. That she was loved. (A tear rolls down her cheek.). Mara: How stupid was I eh? Coz she was going through much worse than I was. John: She was sexually abused. Mara: Yep. My parents taped it. John: They taped it? Mara: Yeah. Dad was friends with the local priest. He was there too. Some priest he was. I found the tapes. I watched them. I watched my baby sister being violated again and again. So much for fucking protecting her. (She closes the heart back up and gets up.). Mara: Do you want a drink? I could do with a drink. (She walks off. John gets up and follows her. Mara is in the kitchen. John leans against the counter as Mara takes out a bottle of vodka from her small black bag. She then takes the mug with the plane on it out of the sink and pours herself some vodka.). John: Vodka? Mara: Yeah. Want some? (John is silent. Mara takes a sip then goes back to the lounge sitting down on the sofa. John follows her and sits down next to her.). Mara: Why are you so unhappy today? John: I’m not. Mara: Liar. You haven’t been yourself all evening. John: I’ve just had a bad day. Mara: Join the club. (Mara takes another sip of vodka. Just then the phone rings. John gets up and answers it. Mara puts her bag on the floor. About a minute later the phone goes flying across the room and John lets out a yell. Mara puts her mug on the coffee table and goes over to him. He is crying.). John: I’m trying. I am doing everything he wants! (He then swipes several books and glasses off of the table. Mara goes to him.). Mara: Hey. Hey. Come here. (She wraps her arms around him. He tries to pull away from her but she holds onto him rubbing his back.). Mara: Hey. Hey. It’s okay. (He rests his head on her shoulder and sobs quietly.). Mara: What’s happened? John: I do everything Joseph wants. I do everything he asks and it’s still not good enough. Mara: I’m sure that’s not true. John: He just keeps on at me! I’m tired of his lectures! Mara: Hey. Siblings are like that. That’s just family for you. Come on. (She takes his hand and leads him over to the sofa. She pushes him down onto it.). John: What are you doing? Mara: I’m gonna cheer you up. John: Oh really, how? (He seems to perk up slightly and wipes his eyes. Mara smiles.). Mara: Do you have candles? John: I think so somewhere. (John gets up and rummages through several boxes on the bookshelf. He then takes a wooden box down and shows it to her. There are several different size candles along with a long lighter.). John: Why do you want these? Mara: It’s a surprise. You just wait here. John: Okay. (He sits back down on the sofa and Mara disappears upstairs. He waits for nearly twenty minutes. Then she finally comes back down.). Mara: Come on then. (He frowns and gets up. He follows her upstairs. She leads him to his bedroom and his heart skips a beat. Is she taking him to bed? He swallows hard. Then she walks into the bathroom. He follows her and stops in the doorway staring. The bathroom is lit by candles and there is a bubble bath prepared.). Mara: I thought a nice hot bath would cheer you up a bit. Then we could have a drink. (He swallows hard.). John: Okay. (He steps into the room and she starts unbuttoning his waistcoat. He freezes looking down at her then he grins wickedly.). John: Do you want me? Mara: You what? (She looks up at him and laughs.). Mara: You saucy git! Nah this isn’t anything like that. I just thought you needed someone to take care of you. I get the feeling nobody ever has so... (She pushes his waistcoat off of his shoulders and he shrugs out of it. She then unbuttons his shirt.). John: So...You’re just...Teasing me? Mara: No. I’ve just told you what I’m doing. Now hush. (She removes his shirt.). Mara: Shoes. (He removes his shoes and socks.). Mara: Now you just have a nice long soak and then we can have a nice hot drink and relax in front of that nice fire. (He stares at her.). John: I thought you were undressing me. Mara: I’m not taking your trousers off. You cheeky wotsit. (She laughs and shakes her head.). John: Yes. I am a cheeky wotsit. You could have a bath with me. Saves water that way. Mara: Uh huh. You men are terrible. Is that all you think about? John: No. Not all I think about. But you make me want so badly. Mara: I what? Wait...You want me? (She looks like she doesn’t believe him.). John: Yes. (He looks at the floor. Mara sighs. She wants Jacob but he doesn’t want her. His brother wants her but she doesn’t want him. That’s just typical isn’t it? But John is probably just like Jacob. He would only want her for sex. She’s known men like John. They flirt with anything that moves if it has breasts.). Mara: I’m sorry. But I’m not interested. Not in that. It’s not you. I’m sure your...You know a nice guy and that but I don’t really do the one night stand thing. I want someone who loves me and wants to spend the rest of their life with me you know? Not just for a quick fuck coz they feel like it. (She wonders then why she dropped her knickers to Jacob so soon after meeting him. She should have gotten to know him better first. She was so stupid. But she really likes him. She wants him to hold her again like he did last night. John is staring at her.). John: You don’t believe in sex before marriage? Mara: I don’t know. I guess it’s okay if two people really love each other. I like to believe in love you know...That there’s someone out there that was especially made for you. Ah...It’s probably a load of bollocks though right? (She laughs and shakes her head.). Mara: You have your bath and I’ll make you a drink. Do you have hot chocolate? John: Yes. Mara: Want one? John: Please. (She turns to leave.). John: Have you thought any more about atoning for your sins? Mara: I told you. It isn’t possible for me John. It doesn’t matter what you do. I’m dead already. (She leaves the room. He stands there staring after her frowning. He then removes the rest of his clothing and gets in the bath. He lies back letting himself relax. He lets out a sigh and closes his eyes. A little while later Mara returns and knocks gently on the open door. His eyes snap open.). John: Yes? Mara: I have your hot chocolate. John: Thank you. (She puts the mug on the side of the tub.). John: Do you often hang out in bathrooms with men you have just met? Mara: No. I don’t. I’m not hanging out in here either. I brought you hot chocolate. John: You just wanted a look really. Mara: I haven’t looked anywhere. Ah is that why you left the door open? John: Maybe. Mara: You are insatiable John Seed. (He chuckles.). John: Yes. I am. (She goes to leave.). John: Are you staying? Mara: Yeah if you want. I’ve lit the fire. John: Lovely. Mara: You cheered up now? John: Yes. A bit. Mara: Good. I’ll be downstairs. (She leaves the room. John relaxes in the bath for another half an hour just thinking about his life and his brothers lectures. He thinks about Mara and wonders what it is that she did that makes her so sure she cannot be forgiven. John doesn’t believe her. He thinks that everyone can be forgiven if they just confess. If they accept the power of yes. He is sure she can be cleansed. He told Joseph that he would take her to his bunker and make her atone. But Joseph wants her to join them willingly. He sighs. He is in there for so long that he falls asleep. He wakes up to find himself lying in cold water. He gets out of the bath and empties the water. He then dries himself and gets dressed. He picks up his mug and blows out all the candles before returning to the lounge. Mara is lying on the sofa with her eyes closed. Her boots and her bag are on the floor and her revolver and holster is on the table. He goes over to her.). John: Mara? (He shakes her gently. She doesn’t stir. He stands there looking down at her. Then he slowly moves her cardigan and baggy top exposing her skin. He sees the bruising on her shoulders and the cut on her chest. It’s still bleeding and has seeped onto her top. He frowns wondering what happened and why she doesn’t want to talk about it. He shakes her gently again.). John: Hey. (She stirs and opens her eyes.). Mara: Hey. Sorry I must have fallen asleep. John: You did. (She sits up.). Mara: You feeling better now? John: A little bit. Mara: So why are you so sad? John: I’m just tired of my brothers lectures and demands. I have done so much for the project but it never seems to be enough. I have given my money and my time. I help people to atone for their sins and I have atoned for my own. I try so hard but to him it isn’t good enough. Mara: Hey. (She gets up and wraps her arms around him. He freezes for a moment then places one hand on her waist and one hand on her back.). Mara: I’m sure your brother appreciates everything you have done for him. I’m sure he loves you and is only trying to help you. Sometimes people can come across as interfering and they can piss you off but really they are only doing what they’re doing because they care about you. I was so angry with my sister when she drugged me. I hate drugs, I always have and she knew that. I didn’t understand why she would drug her own sister but to her she was helping me. So you see...Sometimes it just isn’t clear to us that what a person is doing is meant to help us. Because they love us. (He looks down at her smiling.). Mara: What? John: You are...A very interesting woman. Mara: I am? John: Why do you hate drugs? (She sighs and moves away from him. She opens her bag and takes out a small bottle of vodka. She then goes to the kitchen and pours some into the plane mug. He has followed her.). John: Vodka? Mara: Yep. Do you want some? (He swallows hard.). John: I try not to drink anymore. Mara: Oh. Were you an alcoholic? John: I used to drink...A lot. I took a lot of drugs too. Mara: Oh. Sorry. If I’d known that I wouldn’t have poured it out in front of you. John: It’s okay. You shouldn’t drink though. It’s a sin. Mara: Really? Now that can’t be right. I recall someone telling me that Jesus had a last supper where he turned water into wine. Then he drank it with his friends so... (She has raised her eyebrows.). Mara: If Jesus can do it then so can I. Anyway I’m not really bothered about God and his many rules if I’m honest. I don’t believe anyone should be told what they should do...Only what they could do. (He tilts his head studying her.). John: Hm. I have never heard that view before. Mara: Well I’m not like anyone else. I like to be different. (He takes a glass out of the cupboard and holds it out.). Mara: Now you want a drink? John: Yes. Mara: Are you sure you’re not too worried about sinning? John: Not right now. Besides we can always atone later. (She pours some vodka into his glass.). Mara: In order to atone for something do you have to be sorry that you did it? John: Yes. Mara: Hm. Well I’m not sorry. At all. (She goes back to the lounge. He follows her. She sits down on the sofa and takes a sip of vodka. He sits down next to her.). John: You never answered my question. Mara: What question? John: Why do you hate drugs? (She sighs.). Mara: I was...Placed in a psychiatric hospital. They thought I was mad. It was awful. You were left in a padded room for days with nothing. They kept you drugged up on all kinds of shit. Made it so that you could barely move, so that some days you didn’t know your own name or where you were. It was like they just couldn’t be bothered with the patients there...So they’d just dose us all up then lock us up and forget about us. I hated the drugs. Hated how they made me feel. I felt sick nearly all the time and so tired. My dad was also a drug dealer. He dealt drugs to most of the county even kids. He didn’t care if they died after taking his shit. He just wanted the fucking money. That’s why I hate drugs. There’s nothing good about them. All they do is ruin people and wreck families. John: A mental hospital? What were you in for? (She sits there for a moment. You can’t tell him girl. You’ll go back to being seen as that crazy bitch that killed those people. She sighs. But she can’t hide from it forever.). Mara: Murder. (John raises his eyebrows.). John: Who did you kill? Mara: A child rapist. He abused dozens of kids. He deserved everything he got. John: Hm. Such wrath in you. Mara: Yep that’s me. Little miss wrath. I really couldn’t give a shit. God can think what he likes of me. I was never holding out for universal popularity. He can have his opinion and I’ll have mine. (She downs the vodka. John goes to say something but the phone rings again. Mara had tidied up while John was in the bath. John sighs angrily and gets up putting his glass on the table. He answers the phone. Mara listens in.). John: Hello? Yes. No I did. I did do it! Well it should be there! Yes of course I do I just...I know. I’m sorry. (John then sighs and slams the phone down. Then he returns to the sofa and picks up the glass downing the vodka.). John: Have you got anymore? Mara: Yeah. Is everything okay? Who was on the phone? (John starts mumbling under his breath while Mara hands him the vodka bottle.). John: Just Joseph and his fucking have you done this, have you done that? I know I left it on his desk. Not my fault he can’t find it. (He struggles to take the lid off the vodka bottle. He grunts in frustration and she takes it off of him. She opens it and pours him some. She notices he has tears in his eyes again.). Mara: Oh come on don’t cry Bub. John: Well! I try so fucking hard but I’m never good enough! Not for him, not for my parents- Mara: To hell with your parents! (Mara has stood up. John looks up at her.). Mara: Faith told me a little about your foster parents. These Duncan’s. (She practically spits the name.). Mara: They were horrible to you. They didn’t look after you! They were obsessed with sin! Tried to make you believe you were a bad child! Well they succeeded didn’t they? How the hell can you ever believe you are good enough when everyone around you keeps telling you that you ain’t?! No wonder you don’t have any self esteem! (John is just staring at her with tears rolling down his cheeks. He then downs the vodka. She finishes hers and takes the glasses to the kitchen. She comes back and puts the bottle back in her bag.). John: No more drink? Mara: No. You don’t need it right now. If your having a shit day and feel down alcohol doesn’t help. Trust me I know this. Now shoes off. John: What? Mara: Shoes. (She kneels down and takes his shoes off. He frowns. Then she unbuttons his waistcoat. His breathing has deepened and he looks up at her in confusion then smirks.). John: Are we doing what I think we’re doing? Do I need to add Lust to your list of sins? Mara: No. You don’t. We’re not having sex John. Now stop thinking such filth. John: Then why are you undressing me? Mara: I’m just taking your waistcoat off. You don’t want to get it all creased eh? (She drapes his waistcoat over the armchair.). Mara: Lie down. (He frowns. Then he lies down on the sofa. She lies down next to him squeezing onto the sofa.). John: What is this? Mara: This is a hug. (She wraps her arms around him pulling him closer so that his head is buried in her chest. She then strokes his hair.). Mara: Everyone needs a hug now and then. Even those that really don’t think they do. I can see how unhappy you are John. I wish I could take away all your pain. But all I can do is hold you and hope that it is enough to make you stop crying. John: Why? Mara: Why what? John: Why would you do all this for me? Mara: I don’t really know you all that well...I’ve heard about you from Mary May Fairgrave and other locals but...My sister tells me to give you a chance. That you are simply misunderstood. That you are sad and just want to be accepted and loved. I know how that feels. Also my sister classes you as her brother so...That kinda makes you my brother too. So just relax and let me hold you. You’ll feel better...Promise. (He lets out a small sigh.). John: You...Are very random and strange. Mara: Yes I am. (Suddenly he wraps his arms around her.). Mara: Don’t let your brother upset you. I’m sure he loves you very much and is only doing what he thinks is best because he cares about you. (He mumbles something that she can’t make out. They lie there in silence the only sound the crackling of the fire.).

Fictober Day #6: “I heard enough, this ends now.”
OCs: Hel (POV), Avery
Word count: 830
About: This prompt sounds super serious but I turned it into something kind of light-hearted. The thing Hel reads is actually sort of another WIP of mine? Anyway, I adore Hel and Avery’s relationship, it’s absolutely just the berries :)
“Are you going to try to explain yourself?” Avery asked dryly.
Hel rolled her eyes. “Look, Jules was telling me about this new club that was absolutely just the berries, but my aunt said I couldn’t go if I hadn’t done my Terran homework. So I-”
“Decided to cheat and ask a Terran to give you all the answers.”
“Yes well-”
Avery interrupted again, holding up a hand to silence her. “You know what, I’ve heard enough, this ends now.” They picked up a book from their desk, flicking open to a marked section. “You will read, tell me what you think, and then maybe you can go with your friend Julie to this new club.” They held out the book, tapping a page.
Hel took the volume in confusion. “Okay… Wait, this isn’t anything to do Terran.”
“No, it isn’t. Now silence. Read.”
With a sigh, Hel looked down at the page and did as she was instructed.
...Liana Chalet arrived in the capital on the twenty-fourth of March, poor and hungry. Although the doors of her family would be open to her, she chose to stay in a local inn while in search of work. The innkeeper decided to allow her to stay and eat for free so long as she worked the nights behind the bar. It was on one of these nights that Chalet encountered Moremi for the first time when he came to the inn for a drink.
The nature of Chalet and Moremi’s relationship has been debated throughout history. Although it ended in a romantic connection, the initial feeling between them is often considered to be mutual dislike, born out of differing opinions on political matters. However, it is also assumed that this dislike was often humorous and Chalet had always considered Moremi a friend, and vice versa. Nametso Tale, who quickly became a close acquaintance of Chalet after their introduction, described their relationship as “always positive, even when they argue. They differ in approach rather than specific opinion, and I think if they can learn to work together, they will find great success.”, and repeatedly stressed her belief that Chalet and Moremi were likely to be romantically involved.
While Chalet’s greatest flaw was her hot temper, Moremi’s was his indecisiveness and desire to fly below the radar. This was shown in their very first interaction when Chalet got into an altercation with an unidentified male patron at the inn while working. The fight was started over politics - the customer had been arguing for the continued influence of Greymark, which Chalet took issue with and refused to back down. Moremi attempted to quieten her, but eventually became a part of the argument and was set upon by the man. He was rescued by Chalet, who fought him off and proceeded to talk the man down from any further violence. This event was what first cemented their friendship despite their differences.
She went to turn the page, but Avery stopped her.
“Well?” they asked.
Hel tilted her head. “Who was she?”
“Liana Chalet?” Avery leaned back in their chair, smiling. “She was a great political leader, over a hundred years ago on the Eastern Continents. She fought for Greymark to get back inside its own borders and brought her country independence. It’s a great story.”
“This book is about her?”
Avery nodded. “Now, what can you tell me about what you just read?”
“Could I ask, Chalet and Moremi, they were…?”
“Married, eventually, but not for quite a few years after the events detailed here. They lived and worked together for the rest of their lives.”
Hel thought it over for a moment, running her hand down the edge of the page. “Well, I suppose it was Chalet’s temper that got her into trouble. But then again, Moremi still became involved despite his attempts not to. And it was both of those attributes combined that saved them.”
“So…?”
“They are complimentary. They help each other, even though they’re very different. They give each other… temperance.”
Avery smiled. “Which is what I want you to understand. The virtue of temperance. Temperance means balance and moderation, in all respects. It means feeling strongly, but acting wisely.”
Hel laughed softly. “I understand.”
“I’m glad,” said Avery. “Now, you can run along with your friends and have a good time.”
“Oh, thank you,” she said. She’d quite forgotten why she was even there in the first place. Standing, she tucked a loose curl of hair behind her ear and offered Avery a meaningful smile. “If you’re done with it, could you leave that book on my bedside? I’d love to read it properly.”
“Of course,” they replied. “I look forward to discussing it with you.”
She looked over her shoulder as she left the room. “You’re the best, Ave. Absolutely just the berries.”
Avery watched her go, adjusting their glasses. “I know, Hel. It’s how I got here.”
Hel felt an extra lightness in her step as she walked away.

Colors Meme
I was tagged by @kagetsukai (first tag in one of these EVER so I can’t thank you enough for including me!  You’re a rock star, my darling. xoxo)
I am going to do mine for Allyson Mercer because I like her better than my Chloe Trevelyan character.
Tumblr media
Ice Blue
She loves all things winter and she loves the look of ice-frosted glass.
Tumblr media
Sunset Orange
Her family lives out in BFE between Lake Calenhad and the mountains, just a little bit north of Redcliffe. Her favorite thing to do is to go out onto her back patio and watch the sun set over her family’s ungodly large pond and the mountainous backdrop.
Tumblr media
Moss Green
Her family has a vacation home out in the Brecilian Forest, where father did most of his writing because he preferred a quiet setting, despite his occupation. Now, she goes out there to feel closer to him. She loves both the forest chalet and the country estate, but her favorite is the chalet that allows her closeness with her father.
@blustersquall, if you have any desire to do this, I would love to see it.
@slothquisitor, I’m curious as to who you would pick and what colors you’d pick for them. If you want to take part, that is.
@letmehelpyouwrite, I don’t know if you would be interested in taking part but I know you have a few OCs and I thought maybe picking some colors for one of your characters might help bring a smile to your face this evening.
I’d love to hear what your OC’s favorite colors are. Let me know what they like. If you don’t feel like participating, though, that’s cool, too! ((Hugs))

Home: Jacob Seed/OC Chapter 2
Here's part 2 of my Jacob fic. Sorry it's so long. Some of the chapters are even longer than this...
If you would like to be tagged in future chapters just let me know...
Warnings: Drug use (mentioned)
(Faith Seed sits at the dinner table in John’s chalet. John’s brothers Joseph and Jacob are there too. They have just finished eating and Will Boyd starts clearing away their plates. John gets up to help him.). Will: It’s okay I got it. (John ignores him and continues helping Will clear up the plates and cutlery.). John: It’s nice to have you here. We rarely see you down here. You’re up at that cabin all the time. Will: I’m a hunter John. That’s my job. John: I know. We appreciate the work you do for us but it would be nice to see you more often. (Once the plates are cleared away Will brings out a jug of lemonade and pours everyone a glass before sitting back down along with John. They hear raised voices outside. Then one of Johns men, Lonny, walks in.). Lonny: Sorry to interrupt but there’s a young lady outside looking for you John. (John looks up frowning.). John: Looking for me? Lonny: Yeah. I’ve never seen her before. Mid twenties, long blonde hair. Wearing all black. She looks like a biker or something. Mouthy as all hell. Gave Akers a right fright. (Lonny chuckles. John looks confused.). John: I don’t think I know her. Lonny: You are the only John Seed around here aren’t you? John: You know I am. Lonny: Well then she’s looking for you. (John gets up and follows Lonny outside. He is out there for several minutes.). Will: I wonder who the girl is. (Joseph is sitting there frowning then he looks at the front door as John walks back in with Lonny. He looks a little shocked.). Will: Everything alright John? John: The girl outside is claiming to be your sister Faith. (Faith looks stunned.). Faith: What? I haven’t seen my sister since I was thirteen. Will: Why not? Faith: Um...She was...Arrested. Lonny: Arrested? Faith: Yes. The police came to the house and took her away. I was placed in care shortly after. I never saw her again. I assumed she was still in prison. Lonny: I didn’t even know you had a sister. Joseph: Invite her inside John. John: Yes Father. (John leaves the chalet again and returns moments later with Mara in tow. They all stare at Mara as she walks in. The black boots with the silver buckles with skulls on. The black ripped jeans. The skull belt buckle. The black leather jacket covered in patches. Her long blonde hair tied up in a French plait. Her black eye makeup. The revolver strapped to her thigh. Faith slowly stands up staring at Mara.). Faith: I don’t believe it. (Mara smiles.). Mara: You were hard to find sis. I never dreamed you’d come back here. I’ve missed you so much. (Faith suddenly throws her arms around Mara. Both girls are suddenly crying.). Faith: I’m sorry I didn’t try to find you. Mara: It’s okay. I found you. (The girls pull apart and Faith stares at Mara her eyes brimming with tears.). Mara: I swore I wouldn’t cry. Ruining my makeup now. It was shit to start with. (Faith laughs. John chuckles.). Mara: But I can see I’m interrupting your dinner. Sorry about that. Joseph: That’s quite alright child. We’ve had dinner already. Would you like something? Mara: No. Thanks. I’m fine. (Faith sits back down. Mara stands there a little awkwardly.). Joseph: Please sit. (Mara sits down at the end of the table facing Joseph. She smiles at him. He offers her a small smile back.). Faith: Everyone this is my big sister Mara. Joseph: It is nice to finally meet you. Mara: Am I right to assume that you are Joseph? (Joseph smiles.). Joseph: I am. Mara: Hm. I’ve seen your statue. It’s quite a good likeness. (Will and Lonny chuckle. Mara turns to Faith as she pours her a lemonade.). Mara: So...What have you been doing with yourself? What happened after we were separated? Did you go to college? Boyfriends? Girlfriends? Husband? Kids? (Will nearly spits out his lemonade. Faith looks stunned for a moment. Then she giggles.). Faith: No. No boyfriends. Or girlfriends. (Mara raises her eyebrows.). Mara: Okay. Faith: No husband and no children. Mara: No boyfriends? At all? (Faith looks uncomfortable.). Faith: No. Mara: So what happened after we were separated? Faith: Not much. I was put with a young couple. Mara: They looked after you? You were okay? Faith: Yes. They looked after me. Mara: Good. Faith: I left them when I was eighteen. I just packed my things and left. They didn’t want me to go. I do think that Layla genuinely cared about me. Adam not so much. Mara: Oh really? What did he do to you? Faith: Nothing. I just get the impression that he didn’t care for me so much. (Mara’s eyes narrow dangerously. Faith recognises the look.). Faith: Don’t look like that. It’s all in the past now. Mara: Right. Faith: So what have you been doing with your life? Mara: Not much. Been on the streets since I was eighteen. Met a cool chick called Franky. Faith: Did she come here with you? Mara: No. I haven’t seen her in two years now. (Lonny is looking at the back of Maras leather jacket. The word Wrath is written across the top of it and underneath is a skull, a revolver and a knife.). Lonny: I like your jacket. Mara: Thanks. Um...Would you mind if I used your loo? John: Not at all. Through the kitchen, up the stairs, third door on the right. Mara: I’ll just be a minute. (Mara gets up and leaves the room.). Lonny: She’s different. Faith: Yes. I can’t believe she’s here. I was starting to think I’d never see her again. Maybe I should have tried to find her. I feel bad now. She’s my sister. I should have tried to find her. She must have felt like I forgot about her. Will: Well she’s here now. That’s what matters. She doesn’t seem to think you forgot her. She looks happy to see you. Faith: Yes. Lonny: Hm. John: Do you think she’d be interested in joining us? Faith: I don’t know. I guess I’ll just have to ask her. I hope she will. If that’s alright Father. (Joseph smiles.). Joseph: Of course. John: Hm. Lonny: Well we already know what her sin is. John: Oh really Lonny? You’ve got her all figured out after ten minutes? Lonny: No. It’s written on the back of her leather jacket in foot high letters. John: Is it? Lonny: Yeah. Have a look when she comes back down. You can’t miss it. (Mara re-enters the room. John stares at Mara as she sits back down. He leans back craning his neck to see the back of Mara’s jacket. He sees the word Wrath written there. He sits forward again.). John: So...You are Wrath are you? Mara: Excuse me? (Mara frowns.). John: It’s written on the back of your jacket. Mara: Oh. Right. Okay. (Mara laughs.). Mara: It was Franky’s jacket. She gave it to me. (Mara takes a sip of lemonade.). Faith: I’m going to get started on the washing up. Mara: Do you want a hand? Faith: Sure. (Mara gets up and follows Faith to the kitchen.). Lonny: Faith’s sister showing up here. Who would have thought? Though I don’t see her fitting in. What’s with the eye makeup? She almost looks like she’s been punched in the face. The jacket and black clothing. She must be one of those Goths or something. Joseph: You should not judge her based on what she is wearing. Lonny: Hm. I just don’t see how she could be useful to the Project. I don’t see how she will fit in. Joseph: She is Faiths sister. Which means we will welcome her. Lonny: She’s been in prison. Joseph: So have you. (They all look at Joseph in silence.). Joseph: Jacob why don’t you collect these glasses and take them to the kitchen. (Jacob stands up and picks up the glasses holding several in each hand. He goes to the kitchen where Mara and Faith are chatting away. Mara giggles. Jacob places the glasses on the side.). Jacob: Joseph wants these washed up. Faith: Yes Jacob. (Mara looks up at Jacob. He is an older man, Mara guesses he has to be in his forties. His head is shaved except for a crop of red hair on top of his head. He has a red beard and his face and arms look scarred. He is wearing very dirty jeans, a filthy t-shirt and a camo jacket that has blood stains on it. Around his neck are a set of dog tags, a whistle, a silver key and a silver wolfs head holding a rabbits foot. But it’s his eyes that really capture Mara’s attention. They are an entrancing shade of blue. Jacob looks at her then leaves the kitchen. Mara looks down at the side. She’s never seen a man with such beautiful eyes. And no man has ever taken her breath away like that. Jacob returns with more glasses which he places on the side. He holds out Mara’s lemonade.). Jacob: Did you want the rest of this? Mara: Thanks. (She takes the glass from him and their hands touch. She freezes for a moment. His hand is warm and rough. She can smell him, a mixture of dirt, sweat and pine needles. She smiles at him and takes a sip of lemonade. She places the glass on the side and picks up the tea towel continuing to dry up while Faith washes up.). Faith: So where are you staying sis? Mara: Well I was going to go home. But the place was crawling with men carrying rifles. Faith: Oh. Yes. Mara: I thought the house was left in our name after they carked it. (Faith is silent for a moment.). Faith: It is ours. But it was the ideal place for some of the work we’ve been doing. Mara: Hm. You mean dealing drugs? Faith: Who told you that? Mara: I met a woman called Mary in Falls End. She told me many things. I was worried about you. You’re not still on the coke are you? Faith: No. Joseph helped me get off all of that. Mara: Hm. Good. Remind me to thank him. Faith: So where are you staying? Mara: Nowhere fancy. Certainly nowhere as nice as this. Faith: That doesn’t matter. As long as you have somewhere to sleep. (Jacob is making Joseph and the others tea and coffee.). Faith: So where are you staying? I can stop by tomorrow and we can catch up properly. Just the two of us. Mara: That sounds good. Yeah. I bet we’ve got loads to tell each other. Faith: Yes. Like how you’re out of prison. So whereabouts are you staying? Mara: We’d probably be more comfy at your place. All I have is a trailer. Faith: Trailer? Like a caravan? Mara: Yep. You know where the Grand View Hotel is right? Faith: Yes. In the Whitetail Mountains. Mara: Yeah. You got Cedar Lake right outside yeah? Faith: Yes. I know where you mean. I did grow up here too you know? (Mara giggles.). Mara: Like I’ve forgotten. Well across from the hotel there is like an old abandoned cabin and behind that there’s a load of woods. I’m like right up the top. Faith: So you’re just randomly in the woods? Mara: Yeah. It was a bugger getting the trailer up there. The guy that let me have it drove it up there for me. (Faith laughs.). Faith: So I just cross the lake from the Grand View Hotel and walk straight through the woods? Mara: Yeah. Just keep walking up past the cabin. Look for the thingy with the red light on top. Faith: Thingy with the red light? (Faith is frowning. Jacob has made the hot drinks. He glances at Mara who has now finished drying up. She leans against the side. Lonny and Will enter the kitchen.). Mara: Yeah there’s this thingy with a red light on top and it makes a noise like a cow dying. (Faith stares at Mara. Lonny starts laughing.). Lonny: Like a cow dying! It’s a fucking Caribou call girl! (Lonny laughs harder. Mara folds her arms and stares at him.). Lonny: It’s Jacobs. Uses it to lure wolves. (Mara raises her eyebrows.). Mara: Ah. Well that explains why they keep coming round. Lonny: Shouldn’t go near it then. (Maras eyes narrow.). Mara: Ah. You gonna tell me to be careful now? Lonny: You should. If you know what’s good for yah. Will: Lonny. (Wills tone is one of warning.). Mara: Are you threatening me? Because if you are...You might want to work on it. (Mara laughs. Will chuckles.). Lonny: You can act little miss tough all you want. You ain’t gonna last five minutes here. Mara: Okay. I don’t know what your problem is prick but I just came here to find my sister. I haven’t seen her in eleven years. Tomorrow she wants us to meet up and catch up properly. But hey...If you think you can keep me from that...Go right ahead and give it your best shot. See how well you do. Lonny: Oh you are gonna be so dead. Joseph thinks your important. I can’t imagine why. Will: Lonny! What is wrong with you tonight? Are you drinking again? Are you? Coz if John finds out- Lonny: What? (Will turns to Mara.). Will: I apologise for my friend. Mara: Whatever. Can I get a coffee? Faith: Of course you can silly. (Mara goes to the kettle and boils it. Jacob is staring at her. She looks up at him and smiles.). Mara: Um...Where are the mugs? (Jacob reaches over her head and opens a cupboard. He takes a mug out and places it in front of her on the side. She smiles at him.). Mara: Thanks. (Mara starts to make herself coffee. Damn those eyes. Mara realises that she can’t seem to keep her eyes off his. They are so beautiful. She finishes making her coffee and picks up the mug leaning against the side again. She looks at Jacob again. He is standing there with his arms folded staring at her. She smiles at him.). Mara: What? Jacob: Nothing. (Damn. Mara likes his voice. It’s just as entrancing as his eyes. She swallows hard. She smiles at him again.). Mara: Okay. Lonny: He’s probably just wondering how much of a weak shit you are. Will: Lonny! Lonny: What? (Lonny laughs. Will sighs and shakes his head.). Mara: Okay. So what’s the verdict? (Lonny stops laughing and stares at Mara.). Lonny: You what? Mara: Well what’s the verdict? Lonny: Verdict on what? Mara: Well how much of a weak shit I am? (Mara stares at Lonny matter of factly. Will chuckles. Lonny looks like he doesn’t know what to say.). Mara: You know what it doesn’t matter. I’m gonna go and sit down and drink my coffee. You coming sis? Faith: Yes. Let’s go back and sit with the others. (Mara leaves the kitchen glaring at Lonny as she walks past him which makes Will chuckle again.). Will: I think you pissed her off Lon. Lonny: Tch. What’s she gonna do? (They all return to the dining table. Mara sits sipping her coffee. She watches Jacob as he brings a tray in with the teas and coffees on it and sets it on the table. He then sits down. Joseph is staring at Mara. She smiles awkwardly at him.). Joseph: What do you do for a living Mara? Mara: Um...It’s difficult to get a job when your homeless as employers like you to have an address. Most employers pay their staff through the bank but I don’t have a bank account and to get a bank account you have to have an address. Which I don’t. So...It’s finding employers that are willing to pay you in cash. Lonny: Homeless? Mara: Yeah. As in nowhere to live. I got the trailer from Sharky. Lonny: Boshaw? Mara: Yeah. It has some fire damage but it’ll do. (Mara shrugs.). Faith: So...How have you been living if your homeless and have no job? Mara: Same as everyone else I guess. I squatted in a warehouse once. And an abandoned apartment block. Some of the people there. Boozers, druggies. There was this one girl oh boy she really didn’t like me. Thought I was gonna wake up one morning with a blade in me. (Faith looks horrified.). Faith: But what about our inheritance? You could have used that to buy yourself a place. (Mara frowns.). Mara: What inheritance? Faith: Our inheritance from mom and dad. Mara: I didn’t get anything from mom and dad. Faith: You didn’t? But that doesn’t make sense. They left me money and the house. You must have gotten a share. Mara: Well I didn’t. Who cares anyway? I don’t want nothing from them. Faith: Sis. Mara: What? You know all their money came from them selling death to kids don’t you? Don’t want money anyway. Makes your fingers dirty. (Will raises his eyebrows.). Faith: It’s all in the past now. Mara: Yep. (Mara sips her coffee.). Mara: So when did you come back here? Faith: A few years ago. I met Joseph shortly after. He helped me. Mara: Hm. (Mara looks up at Joseph.). Mara: That was nice of him. Faith: He saved me. Mara: From what exactly? Faith: Myself. Mara: Got you off the drugs. Faith: Yes. Like I said. Mara: But your still using them. Faith: I’m not I swear. Mara: So what you’re cooking up in dads old conservatory...It’s not drugs no? (Faith is silent. Mara sighs.). Mara: So what you been taking this time sis? Coke? Meth? Faith: It isn’t like that. Mara: What is it like then? Faith: I am not a junkie anymore. I’m different now. You don’t need to worry about me. Mara: I do worry about you. That’s kinda my job. (Mara smiles slightly. Faith smiles back.). Faith: I know. I know you’ve always looked out for me. But you don’t need to anymore. You don’t need to worry because everything is fine. Mara: Are you sure? Faith: Yes. (Faith smiles. Mara stares at her for a moment.). Mara: Okay. (Mara finishes her coffee.). Mara: It’s late I should be getting back. Faith: You’re leaving already? Mara: I’m not leaving. I’m just going to get some sleep. We’re getting coffee tomorrow aren’t we? Faith: Yes. Mara: Good. (Mara stands up.). John: You can always stay here. Mara: Excuse me? John: Well saves you going all the way back to the mountains. You could stay here and Faith can meet you here in the morning. Faith: That’s nice of you John. (Mara pretends to act dumb. She frowns.). Mara: Who’s Faith? (They all stare at her. Faith giggles.). Faith: I am silly. Mara: Your names Rachel. Faith: Well I changed it. Mara: Uh huh. What was wrong with Rachel? Faith: I didn’t like Rachel. Mara: Okay. I should get going. Faith: Where is it your staying again? Mara: In a busted trailer in the woods opposite the Grand View Hotel. Near the thingy with the red light on top of it. That makes the sound of a ‘caribou call’. (Mara turns to Lonny raising her eyebrows. Will laughs.). Mara: Just look for the fairy lights. Faith: Fairy lights. Got it. Mara: I’ll see you tomorrow sis. (Faith gets up and Mara wraps her arms around her.). Mara: It’s so good to see you again. I look forward to tomorrow. Faith: Me too. Mara: Love you sis. Faith: Love you more. I’ll come see you out. (Faith and Mara walk to the door. Jacob stands up.). Jacob: I should get going too. (Joseph stands up.). Joseph: I will see you tomorrow. Jacob: Yes brother. (Joseph presses his forehead to Jacobs. Jacob then leaves the chalet. Faith is standing on the porch.). Faith: Are you going Jacob? Jacob: Yes. Faith: Could you give my sister a lift? I didn’t realise she didn’t have a car. She’s going to walk back to the mountains. (Faith points to where Mara can be seen walking off of the property and into darkness. Lonny and Will come out followed by Joseph and John.). Will: Thank you for dinner John. John: You’re welcome. (Will notices Mara walking off. Then she disappears from view. Faith sighs.). Will: Where did your sister park her car? She could have pulled it in here. Faith: She doesn’t have one. Will: She’s walking back to the mountains? Faith: Unless Jacob agrees to pick her up and give her a lift. Joseph: Yes. (Jacob looks at his brother. Joseph smiles at him.). Joseph: Give the young lady a ride home brother. Jacob: Hm. Faith: Please. Just make sure she gets home safe. Will: We are going that way anyway. (Jacob lets out a grunt.). Jacob: Fine. Faith: Thank you Jacob. Jacob: I’ll see you later. Joseph: See you tomorrow. John: Goodnight Jacob. Jacob: Night. (Jacob and Will walk over to his truck and Jacob gets behind the wheel. Will gets in the passenger seat. Jacob starts the truck and pulls off of the property. Will looks out the window looking for Mara.). Will: There she is. (Jacob pulls the truck over and Will winds the window down.). Will: Do you want a ride? Mara: No that’s okay. I’ll be fine. Will: Come now lass don’t be daft. It’s gonna take you ages to walk back to the mountains from here. (Mara sighs.). Mara: Okay. As long as it’s no trouble. Will: Not at all. Hop in. (Mara looks at the truck warily.). Will: It’s okay we won’t bite. (Will smiles trying to be reassuring. Mara opens the door and climbs in the back. She puts her seatbelt on and looks out the window. Will winds his window up and Jacob carries on driving. A few minutes later it starts to rain.). Will: Bet your glad for the ride now. You would have gotten soaked lass. (Mara shrugs.). Mara: It’s only rain. (Mara looks up at the rear view mirror. She can see Jacob in the mirror. He suddenly looks up at the mirror and stares at her. She stares back at those gorgeous eyes of his. She suddenly feels stupid. She’s just met this guy and he’s way too old for her. Yet...She can’t stop looking at him. She turns away and looks out the window.). Will: So how long have you been in town? Mara: Four days. Will: Hm. (The drive is awkward and mostly quiet. Mara finds herself glancing at Jacob every now and then. His hair, his eyes, the way his hands rest loosely on the steering wheel. The scarring on his arms. She wonders what happened. Jacob suddenly looks in the rear view mirror again and Mara turns away quickly.). Will: I can’t believe you walked all this way. Mara: I didn’t walk all the way. Some girls gave me a lift. Will: Nice of em. Mara: I guess. When I told them I was going to the ranch in Holland Valley they got real funny with me then pulled over pointed their guns at me and told me to get out of their car. Will: Ah. Who were they? Mara: I don’t know. They saw me walking on the side of the road and stopped to ask if I was okay. I said I was going to Holland Valley but didn’t have a car and they offered me a ride. When they asked where in Holland Valley did I want them to drop me off and I said John Seed’s ranch well...They pulled their guns and told me to get the fuck out of their car. Will: Bet that was scary. (Mara shrugs. She finds herself looking at Jacob again. He has a red pistol strapped to his thigh along with a large knife with a red handle. She notices the sniper rifle on the backseat. It’s also red. He likes the colour red. She runs her fingers over the rifle.). Will: You like it? Mara: What? Will: The rifle. Mara: I like the colour. (Will chuckles.). Will: Maybe if you ask nicely Jacob will let you fire it. (Will chuckles. Jacob huffs a laugh. Mara sighs and looks out the window again. It’s raining hard now.). Will: You ever fired a gun? (Mara is silent. She is thinking about the last time she fired a gun. The revolver strapped to her thigh.). Mara: Once. Will: Hm. (Mara really doesn’t want to talk about it. Thankfully Will doesn’t press the issue.). Will: Weathers probably going to be like this for the rest of the weekend. (Jacob lets out a grunt. The rest of the drive is silent. Jacob pulls into the car park of the Grand View Hotel. Several men approach the truck and greet Jacob. They all have rifles. Mara just wants to get going.). Will: So whereabouts are you lass? Mara: Just across the way. Will: Did you want me to walk you? Mara: No. That’s okay. You’ve already done enough for me. Thanks for the lift guys. (Mara gets out of the truck.). Will: It’s no bother. Your sister wanted us to make sure you got back safely. Mara: I’m sure I’ll be fine. Thank you. Will: Hey Terry. Terry: Alright Will. Those damn Whitetails have been around causing trouble again. They’re on the bank across the way hiding in the woods like cowards. Will: Are they? Terry: Who’s this? Will: This is Mara. She’s Faiths sister. Terry: Faith has a sister? Will: Yes. Terry: Names Terry. Nice to meet yah. Mara: Hi. (Mara smiles slightly. She then walks off heading for the walkway around the side of the hotel that leads to some steps which go up to a small path leading towards the woods. Will sighs and gets out of the truck.). Will: I’m gonna make sure she gets back alright. You don’t have to wait for me. I can make my own way to my cabin from here. (Jacob nods at Will.). Jacob: Will we see you tomorrow? Will: You will. Goodnight Jacob. Terry: See yah Will. Will: Bye Terry. (Will walks off in the direction Mara went. He catches up to her and she turns and looks at him.). Mara: What are you doing? Will: Making sure you get back okay. Mara: I told you I’m fine. Will: Even so. There’s members of the militia out here. Mara: They haven’t bothered me so far. They probably will if they see me with you though. (Will chuckles.). Will: Don’t worry. (Will holds up his rifle.). Will: One of the reasons I have this. (It doesn’t take them too long to reach Mara’s trailer.). Mara: Well here we are. Thanks for walking me back. Will: You’re welcome. (Will looks at the trailer. It is really dirty and beat up. There is a rusty metal lawn chair outside. The windows of the trailer are all boarded up.). Will: I take it you don’t have running water. Mara: Nope. Will: No electricity either I’d wager. Mara: Nope. Will: Hm. (Mara opens the door.). Mara: Night. (She goes inside. Will follows her. It’s dark. Mara turns on a battery powered lamp which is sitting on a small table. Mara then goes around switching on fairy lights. She has quite a few strewn around the place. She then turns to Will.). Mara: I didn’t say you could come in. Will: Sorry. (He can see the small bathroom. There is a small kitchen counter and dirty sink. Two more rusty metal chairs next to the table. On the table is a pile of drawings.). Will: Are you an artist? Mara: I guess. I like to draw and colour. Will: Hm. (He sees a black holdall on the floor. He looks at the black curtain on the left. He pulls it back and can just about make out a dirty mattress on the floor. He turns back around. Mara has taken her leather jacket off and draped it over one of the metal chairs. It is still raining and she is soaked. She goes to the bathroom and comes back with a towel.). Mara: I’d like you to leave now. I need to sleep. Will: Sure. You sure you’re going to be alright? Mara: Always am. Will: Okay. Goodnight. Mara: Bye. (She opens the door. He leaves the trailer. It’s still raining. He turns back to look at Mara. She shuts the door. He sighs and walks off into the woods. Mara dries her hair as best as she can. She then takes off her wet clothes and chucks them in the tiny shower in the bathroom. She rummages through the holdall and takes out black leggings and a baggy grey long sleeved jumper. She shoves the clothes on and gets into bed. She lies there staring at the dirty ceiling thinking about everything. Seeing her sister after all this time was emotional. She still can’t believe she has got caught up in a damn religious cult. Will seems like a nice man though. There’s something not right about those Seed brothers though. John is creepy. She saw the way he looked at her. Pervert. His eyes were filled with sadness. Jacob's eyes were too. She wonders what happened to make them look so sad. Damnit! Now she is thinking about Jacob again. She laughs to herself. Then she sighs again. She is seeing her sister again tomorrow. Just the two of them. They can talk properly. She closes her eyes, listening to the rain pattering on the roof of the trailer and hopes she can get some sleep.).

Small World: Joseph/OC Part 43
Finally finished the next chapter hope you guys enjoy it. This has been the hardest chapter to write so far.
Warnings: Alcoholism (Implied)
(3 Months Later: John Seed is sitting at the large dining table at his ranch in Hope County, Montana. His ranch is massive and he even has his own plane and private runway. He sighs and picks up his glass of lemonade taking a sip. His brother Jacob laughs as their friend Akers tells him a joke. Jacob is shaking his head.). Jacob: Who told you that? Akers: Lonny. Jacob: Hm. Figures. Could have guessed that crap would have come out of his mouth. (Their ‘adopted’ sister Faith walks in picking up the rest of the plates before disappearing back to the kitchen.).
Joseph: Why don’t you go and help Faith with the washing up John? John: I’m sure she can handle it. (Joseph gives John a disapproving look and John gets up going to the kitchen.). Akers: Well that was a lovely dinner. Thank you. (Akers gets up.). Joseph: You are leaving already? Akers: Well I still need to continue with the repairs to Affirmation. After those hooligans shot at it. Joseph: Hm. Then we will not keep you. (Akers nods before he leaves the large chalet and heads outside. A few minutes later John and Faith return and Faith puts a cake on the table along with several small plates.). Joseph: What’s this? Faith: Cake. I made it myself. As a surprise. For your birthday Father. Joseph: You shouldn’t have. Jacob: No she shouldn’t. Joseph: Jacob. Jacob: What? Anything she cooks up is barely edible Joe. Joseph: You should be grateful to our sister that she has baked something for us. Jacob: Hm. (Faith sits down and smiles.). Faith: It’s nice. Just try some Jacob. You’ll see. Jacob: Not filled with bliss is it? (Faith’s smile disappears. Joseph tuts.). Faith: No. Of course not. It’s just a cake. (John starts slicing up the cake and putting a slice on each of their plates. Just then Akers walks back in. He stands a few feet from the table and rubs his neck. He looks uncomfortable.). Akers: Um John? John: Yes? (Akers bites his lip and looks at Joseph.). John: What is it? Don’t tell me you can’t fix the plane. Akers: Nah it’s not the plane. It’s...Well there’s a woman outside claiming to be your fiancée. (John frowns.). John: What? That’s preposterous. Akers: Well she has a picture of the two of you together. She says she’s your fiancée. Her names Lillith. (John freezes. Joseph’s mouth drops open and he stands up. Jacob looks up surprised. Faith frowns.). Faith: You were engaged John? John: I was. A long time ago. What would she be doing here? Joseph: Invite her in Akers. Akers: Yes Father. (Akers goes back outside and a minute later he leads Lillith into the dining room. She stands there staring at John. John gets up and walks towards her.). John: Lillith. (Lillith suddenly punches him. A crack is heard and John’s nose spurts blood like a fountain. He stumbles backwards putting his hand over his face. Faith guides him to a chair and he sits down. Faith glares at Lillith.). Faith: What on earth was that for? Lillith: Do you know what he did to me? Do you? John: Lillith... Lillith: No. Don’t you Lillith me! (She looks furious. Jacob finds himself chuckling.). Lillith: Do you know how many years I have searched for you? What I’ve had to deal with? No you don’t! You selfish piece of shit! (Joseph has gone to place his hand on Lillith’s shoulder. This is a mistake. She swats his hand away and glares at him.). Lillith: Don’t you touch me! You weren’t bothered with me either! You never got in touch! Never! You just left me like he did! (Joseph frowns.). Joseph: John informed us when he arrived that you had had second thoughts about joining us here. (Lillith looked furious before. Now she looks livid.). Lillith: He told you...You bastard John! (She takes a note out of her pocket. The note is crumpled and tear stained. She shoves it at Joseph and he reads it his brow furrowing. He then looks at John.). Joseph: You lied to me John. How could you do that? How could you leave her behind? Lillith: Oh you didn’t know? You didn’t know that he was planning on leaving me behind all along? He had it all worked out! He never told me where you were going coz he didn’t want me to follow him! Joseph: I assure you my child I knew nothing of this. I only knew what John had told me. Lillith: And you believed him? (Joseph looks saddened.). Joseph: He’s my brother. Of course I believed him. I never thought that...That he would... (Tears fill Lillith’s eyes.). John: You’ve broken my nose. Lillith: Good! You broke my heart. So I guess we’re even. (There is silence for a moment until Faith stands and faces Lillith.). Faith: So you were engaged to John? Lillith: Yes. We lived together. I was under the impression that I was coming here with him and his brothers. Until he disappeared and left me a note saying he was sorry. Faith: Oh. (There is another awkward silence.). John: How did you find me anyway? Lillith: Facebook. John: What? I’m not on Facebook. Lillith: Your friend Nick Rye is. John: He’s not my friend. Lillith: I gathered that. I have been searching through social media and Google for anything that might lead me to you. I had no idea what else to do or where to look so...Then a few months ago I happened to see a post that this Nick Rye had written. He really doesn’t like you. What did you do John, did you bang his wife? (Faith gasps.). Joseph: The Rye’s don’t agree with my church. With us. John: So you found me because of a Facebook post he had written? Lillith: Yeah. I clicked on his Facebook and his location was Hope County, Montana. So I messaged him and asked him some questions and I just...I knew it was you. So we packed up, bought an RV and headed here. John: We? Lillith: Me and Franky. John: Franky? She’s here too? Lillith: Yeah. I found this little bungalow to rent. So... (Lillith shrugs as a tear rolls down her cheek.). John: So you never stopped trying to find me? Lillith: Oh I did. After you left I tried for a while but then I was focused on other things. I started trying to find you again last year. (She bites her lip. She has no idea how to tell him or how he’ll react.). John: Why? (Lillith sighs.). Lillith: Because...Because your son wants to know who his dad is and why he ran off. (There is silence as everyone stares at Lillith stunned.). John: What? Lillith: You have a son John. John: You’re lying. Lillith: I’m not. How dare you! Lying! I’ve had to raise him on my own! I’ve had to work out what to say to him when he kept asking about his dad! Wondering why you left him like it’s somehow his fault! John: But...No... (John is pale and shaking.). John: How old is he? Lillith: Nine. John: Nine? (John frowns.). Lillith: When I came back from the doctors and told you I wasn’t pregnant. I lied. I knew you wouldn’t want it. I was already worried that you were leaving me. The way you were acting I should have seen it coming. I knew you would kick off. So I thought I would wait until we were in our home. Starting our new life. Then I was going to tell you. But then that day I went to Franky’s and came back...You were already gone. You’d left. I tried calling you and calling you. But you’d gone. Just disappeared. (Joseph and Jacob look stunned.). John: Where is he then? Lillith: With Franky. He’s...Hesitant to meet you. John: Why? Lillith: Oh maybe because you left before he was born and he’s never known you. Joseph: Why don’t I put the kettle on and make you a coffee? Lillith: Why not? (Lillith sits down at the table. Faith has gotten a cloth and John is holding it against his nose.). John: Can’t believe you broke my nose. Lillith: Really? Forgotten about the time I was in the hospital because you broke my wrist? Or the time that I lost our baby because you beat the hell out of me? (Faith gasps.). Lillith: Or the black eyes and broken ribs you gave me? The bruises I was constantly covered in? John: Okay. Okay. I’m sorry alright? Lillith: Yeah. Right. (Faith is looking shocked. She swallows hard.). Faith: Well all that stuffs in the past now. So we can forget about all that. Lillith: I’m sorry who are you? Faith: Faith Seed. I’m John’s sister. (Lillith blinks.). Lillith: He doesn’t have a sister. Faith: He does now. Joseph welcomed me into their family. He adopted me. Lillith: Right. (Lillith doesn’t see how that makes Faith their sister.). Lillith: So you mean you’re John’s niece? Faith: No. I’m his sister. Lillith: Well if Joseph adopted you and became your father then John and Jacob would be your uncles. Faith: No silly. Lillith: I’m not silly. I think you are honey. (Lillith looks at Jacob.). Lillith: Bit special is she? (Jacob laughs.). Jacob: It’s good to see you Lillith. Lillith: Good to be seen. How are you doing? Jacob: I’m good. Got my own place now. Lillith: Really? That’s great. John: Hm! A disused veterans hospital. Hardly a ‘place’. (Lillith frowns. Joseph comes back with a tray of coffees and sits down. He slides a mug to Lillith.). Lillith: Thanks. (John gets up.). John: I’m gonna go and clean myself up. Akers come with me to the doc. Get my nose sorted out. Akers: You got it. (Grinning broadly Akers follows John as he leaves the chalet. Lillith sighs and takes a sip of coffee.). Joseph: I am sorry that John left you behind. You didn’t deserve that. Lillith: No I didn’t. Joseph: You should have told him you were pregnant. You shouldn’t have lied to us. Lillith: Oh really? You know John. You saw how he was. He never wanted a kid. It would have caused nothing but drama. I didn’t know how to tell him and I was scared that he would leave. Hm. He did that anyway. Joseph: How were you planning to hide it from us? Lillith: I wasn’t. Like I said I was going to wait until we had moved. John told me that it was fresh start for us and that we could start a family once we got where we were going. So I figured I would tell him once we’d settled in. I really wasn’t expecting him to just disappear. But you know...I wasn’t actually that surprised. Neither was Franky. Joseph: She sounds like a very good friend. Lillith: Yes she is. She practically moved in after John left. She was there for me through it all. Giving birth was...Hard. But she was there. John should have been there. (Tears have filled her eyes again.). Joseph: Yes he should have been. Lillith: She’s helped me raise him. I don’t know what I would have done without her. (She sighs.). Lillith: You really had no idea? That John was going to leave me behind? Joseph: No I didn’t. When he arrived here he told us that you had second thoughts about my project. That you didn’t want to come. He was very upset. Lillith: Oh he was upset? Joseph: Yes he was. I believed his story. Jacob: Hm. I had doubts. So did you Joe. Joseph: Yes. There was a small part of me that found it strange that you would suddenly decide not to come. I know how much you love my brother. How excited you were to start a new life with him. (Joseph sighs.). Joseph: But John was... Lillith: Convincing. (Joseph nods. He gazes at her.). Joseph: I’m sorry. (Lillith sips her coffee. Joseph notices the ring on her finger.). Joseph: You still wear the ring he bought you? Lillith: Yes. Joseph: You still love him. Lillith: I’ve always loved him. But I am not interested in winning him back. That isn’t why I’m here. He left me. He made his choice. I’m here for my son. That’s it. (Joseph sighs. Lillith finishes her coffee then gets up.). Joseph: Where are you going? Lillith: I need to get going. Franky will be wondering where I am. Joseph: Just wait please. You’ve only just arrived. Lillith: I came here to tell John about his son. He’s gone off more worried about his nose. Joseph: Please just wait a few more minutes. He only went to get cleaned up. He’ll be back. (Lillith sighs and sits back down. They wait in silence. Fifteen minutes later John walks back in. His nose is slightly swollen and his face is red. Jacob chuckles at the sight of him.). John: It’s not funny. (John sits down opposite Lillith. She has her arms folded and is glaring at him. He stares at her.). John: You haven’t aged at all. (Lillith rolls her eyes.). Lillith: Are you interested in having a relationship with your son or not? John: Well...I... (John looks down.). Joseph: Of course he is. He’s just overwhelmed. Lillith: Overwhelmed huh? Yeah. Right. Not interested more like. (Lillith gets up. Joseph gets up too.). Joseph: Please. Lillith: He clearly isn’t interested. Just like I knew he wouldn’t be! It doesn’t bother me if he ain’t interested. John ain’t bothered. But you know who will be bothered? A nine year old boy who has come here to meet his father for the first time. A nine year old boy who is terrified and hopeful at the same time. A boy who is far too young to be dealing with all this stress! (Lillith turns for the door.). John: What’s his name? (Lillith stops standing with her back to them. They all look at her.). Lillith: Gabriel. John: Gabriel. (Joseph smiles.). Lillith: Gabriel John Seed. John: Seed? Not Duncan? Lillith: Not Duncan. I wanted him to have your name. Your real name. Not their name. (John smiles slightly. Lillith leaves the chalet.).
*
(Three Days Later: Lillith is making lunch for Gabriel and Franky. Gabriel is in his room. Lillith is worried about him. When she came back from John’s he asked why his dad hadn’t come back with her. She said that he wasn’t ready. Gabriel didn’t like that and stormed to his room in tears. Lillith sat crying for hours in Franky’s arms. Seeing John after all this time was hard. She still loves him. But she can’t forgive him for what he did. He left her. He left them. He never loved her. She puts a plate of sandwiches on the table.). Lillith: Gabriel! Lunch! (There is no answer. Lillith pours herself some whiskey.). Franky: Hey go easy on that. You don’t need it. Lillith: I think I’m entitled to one. Franky: One? It always starts with one girl. You’ve been drinking too much lately. It’s not healthy. Think about Gabriel. (Lillith sighs and pours the whiskey down the sink before sitting down. Franky sits down next to her and rubs her arm.). Franky: Don’t worry. If he doesn’t want to know we’ll go back to Atlanta. Gabriel will be fine. He’s got us. Lillith: I don’t know. Franky: Hey. It’s okay. (Lillith starts to sob. There is a knock at the door. Franky gets up and opens it. It’s John, Jacob and Joseph.). Franky: This isn’t really a good time. John: Well I have just been told I have a son. Now you want me to go away? (Franky sighs before stepping back so that they can come in. John looks around the bungalow. Boxes are stacked here and there. He notices the whiskey bottles on the counter.). Jacob: That’s a nice RV you got out there. Franky: Yeah. We loved it. Had ourselves a right road trip eh girl? (Lillith wipes her eyes and smiles.). Lillith: Yeah. Franky: How’d you find us? John: I own this valley. It wasn’t hard. (His eyes scan the room.). John: Where is he then? Lillith: He’s in his room. He’s upset. John: Why? Lillith: Because of you dickhead. He asked me why you didn’t come back with me the other day. I told him that you weren’t ready and he got upset and stormed to his room. (Joseph sighs.). Franky: I don’t think it’s a good idea that you’re all here. It might overwhelm him. John: If there even is a child. Joseph: John. John: No Joseph no. Where is he then? Hm? You lied didn’t you? Just to get back at me for leaving you. Franky: You asshole! Gabriel: Dad? (John freezes and turns staring at Gabriel. Joseph and Jacob have done the same. They stare at Gabriel.). Jacob: He looks just like you. (Jacob stares at Gabriel. He looks exactly how John did at that age. John sinks into a chair.). John: Um...Hello. Gabriel: Hello. (Gabriel looks up at Joseph and frowns. Then he sees Jacob and takes a few steps back.). Lillith: It’s okay honey. (Gabriel goes to Lillith and clings to her.). Lillith: This is your dad...John and these are John’s brothers. Your uncles. Joseph and Jacob. Gabriel: I have uncles too? (Joseph smiles.). Joseph: It’s very nice to meet you. (John runs a hand over his face.). Franky: Maybe we should all go outside. Give them some space. (Joseph nods and follows Franky outside. Jacob stands there staring at Gabriel. He smiles at him but Gabriel buries his head in Lillith’s jumper. Jacob looks down and goes outside. There is silence. Neither John or Lillith know what to say.). Gabriel: Aren’t you going to talk? (John smiles.). John: You are a very handsome young man. Lillith: Of course he is. He’s got his moms looks. John: I think you’ll find he looks just like me. (Lillith laughs.). Lillith: Maybe there is a little of you in there. John: I would say more than a little. I’m sorry I called you a liar. I...I didn’t want to believe it. Lillith: I bet you didn’t. John: You don’t understand. I was always afraid of this. I don’t know what to do. What to say. What do I do? (Gabriel frowns.). Gabriel: You just be a dad. (John looks at Gabriel.). John: But I don’t know how to do that. Gabriel: Is that why you left? Because you didn’t know how to be a dad? John: No. That isn’t why I left. I didn’t know about you. Gabriel: Mommy told me she didn’t get a chance to tell you about me. That I was in her belly when you left. John: Yes that’s right. I didn’t know about you. I wouldn’t have left you. How can anyone leave you? (John smiles. Gabriel slowly goes and sits opposite John.). Gabriel: Why did you leave? John: Because...Your mother and I... (He looks down at the table.). John: I was no good for her. I hurt her. Sometimes things just don’t work out. Lillith: So that’s why you left? Coz you felt bad about hurting me? Well coming home and finding you had disappeared hurt me the most John. John: I’m sorry. You knew we were never gonna work. Lillith: No. You just didn’t want it to work. Gabriel: Don’t start arguing. Please. Lillith: We’re not arguing honey. (Lillith leaves the room and goes down the hall. They hear a door close. Gabriel sighs.). Gabriel: You’ve upset her again. John: What? Gabriel: When she came back the other day she cried for hours. She’s always sad. John: She is? Gabriel: Yep. I’ve never seen mommy happy. Except in the pictures. John: Pictures? (Gabriel gets up and rummages around in one of the boxes. He comes back and sits down and shows John a large box. John opens it and looks through all the photos. He stares at the one of him and Lillith where she’s holding up her hand showing the ring he bought her. With the emerald stone. It was taken the night he proposed.). John: I notice that she still wears the ring I bought her. Gabriel: She has some of your clothes too. And your watch. And your DVD collection. John: She still has all of that? Gabriel: Yeah. (John sighs.). John: I have missed her. Gabriel: You have? John: Yes. Gabriel: I think she’s missed you. John: I’m sure your mother hasn’t been spoiled for company. (Gabriel frowns.). Gabriel: You mean Franky? John: No. She must have had...A man friend. Gabriel: You mean a boyfriend? John: Yes. I suppose I do. Gabriel: She’s never had one. John: None? Gabriel: No. Mom doesn’t go out. Ever. (There is silence.). Gabriel: Do you love me? John: What? Gabriel: Do you love me? John: Well...You’re my son. Of course. Gabriel: Do you love mommy? John: Yes. Gabriel: Then why don’t you just get married? John: Um...Well... (The door opens and Franky walks in along with Jacob and Joseph.). Franky: Just making sure there’s no crime scene in here. John: Of course not. Franky: Where’s Lillith? Gabriel: In her room. She got upset again. (Franky sighs.). Joseph: Has she been struggling? Franky: You could say that. No thanks to that dipshit there. John: Hey. Franky: You’ve no idea what you did to her when you left do you? Gabriel: Go and talk to mom. (Franky puts her arm around Gabriel.). Franky: She’ll be okay. She always is. Gabriel: But I don’t understand. She still loves dad and he still loves her so why aren’t they together? Franky: It’s not always as simple as that dude. Gabriel: Well it should be! Why can’t I have a mom and a dad who are happy together like everyone else?! (He gets up and runs to his room slamming the door. Franky sighs.). Franky: Well this is a good start. Joseph: I think it’s just going to take time. It must be very overwhelming for him to be meeting us like this for the first time. Franky: It’s not him I’m worried about. It’s Lillith. John: What do you mean? Franky: Well why don’t you go and have a look? (John frowns.). Franky: Go on. Have a look at her room. See what you’ve done to her. (John gets up and goes down the hall to the room Lillith went into. He knocks on the door then opens it. He stares around the room. Boxes are stacked here and there and there are clothes on the floor along with several books. But it’s the empty beer cans and empty wine bottles that capture John’s attention. The room is littered with them. He doesn’t ever remember Lillith drinking so much. Lillith is lying on a double mattress on the floor.). John: Lillith? Lillith: Just get out John. Run away again. That’s what you’re good at. John: I am not running away. Have you been struggling? Lillith: Struggling? (She stands up and glares at him.). Lillith: You mean struggling to raise our son all on my own? Struggling to carry on without you trying to pretend that I’m not bothered and everything’s fine? Struggling to answer all the questions our son has about you but not knowing where to start? John: Alright! Alright! I get it! Lillith: That’s just it John. You don’t get it. You’ll never get it. You haven’t been there. You left. You left and just wrote a stupid note! Banging on about sin and starting a new life! We were supposed to start a new life together! Why didn’t you just say you didn’t want me? Why didn’t you just say that you weren’t happy with me? John: Because I do want you. I was happy with you. Lillith: Then why did you ruin it all? John: Because...I was scared. Lillith: Of what? John: Of this! (She frowns. Tears have filled his eyes.). John: I never wanted to...To fall in love. Because it just makes you care too much and I can’t...I tried to stop it. I tried to make you leave. Lillith: For someone that says he loves me you have a real strange way of showing it. John: I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for leaving like that. I never stopped thinking about you. Never. Lillith: Yeah right. Just fuck off John. We’re done here. John: No we’re not. I have a son. Lillith: Like you care about him. You just admitted to his face that you never wanted to be a dad. All you are going to do is upset him. I tried to tell him that you weren’t worth it. But he really wanted to meet you. It won’t be long before he realises that you ain’t worth bothering with though. Then we can go home. John: Go home? Lillith: Back to Atlanta. That’s our home John. This...This is just temporary. As soon as our son sees what a waste of space you are we’re leaving. John: So that’s what you want to do? Turn our son against me? Lillith: I don’t need to. He already resents you for leaving. What I wanted was for us to be a family. John: We can be. Lillith: You don’t just get to decide that all of a sudden John. You made your choice. (She leaves the room. Franky looks up as she enters the kitchen and puts the kettle on. John appears a second later.). Franky: Everything alright? Lillith: Fine. John was just leaving. John: I’m sorry. Lillith: No you’re not. John: I meant what I said. Lillith: Oh did you? So you think that after all these years, after you ran away, that we can now just be a family again? Franky: What? Lillith: Oh yes. He thinks that we can be a family. Franky: You walked out on her and left her with a kid to raise on her own. Now all of a sudden you want her back huh? John: I...Why don’t you come to mine for dinner tonight? (Lillith goes down the hall and returns moments later with Gabriel.). Lillith: Your dad wants us to go to his for dinner. Gabriel: Okay. Lillith: What time do you want us? John: Anytime. Gabriel: Can we go now? Lillith: Now? Gabriel: I want to see his house. (John smiles.). Lillith: Fine.
*
(Lillith is sitting on John’s sofa. Franky is sitting in the armchair. Jacob is sitting in the other armchair. Joseph has been called back to his church.). Franky: Are you okay? Lillith: Fine. Franky: No you’re not. Lillith: Then why did you bother to ask? Franky: He might surprise us. Lillith: I doubt it. He’ll hurt Gabriel like he hurt me. Then I’ll have to pick up the pieces. Franky: We will pick up the pieces. Gabriel will be fine. He seems happy to have met his dad. Lillith: Hm. Jacob: I think John’s just scared. I would be too. Lillith: I was scared. I was terrified. John ran off. He weren’t there. He hasn’t had to deal with anything. He’s been living the high life here with his ranch. Franky: Hm. Still shagging anything that moves too I bet. Lillith: Hm. Oh I expect so. Jacob: Hm. Joseph has been trying to help him. Change his ways. Lillith: How’s he doing with that? (Jacob doesn’t answer.). Franky: So this Joseph...He runs his own church? Jacob: Edens Gate. Franky: Hm. And you? Jacob: I help with security. Franky: Security? For a church? Jacob: There’s a lot of people here that don’t agree with my brother. Franky: Hm. Well from what I’ve seen so far it seems like a cult to me. Lillith: Cult or not...This is Gabriel’s family. Franky: I know. I was just saying. You hear a lot of bad things about cults. Lillith: I can’t imagine Joseph being bad. He ain’t no Benjamin Cyrus. Franky: Let’s hope not. (Jacob goes to say something but is interrupted by Gabriel bounding in followed by John.). Gabriel: Mom! Dad has a room filled with model aeroplanes! Lillith: Does he now? Gabriel: Yeah. He says I can make one if I want. He’ll show me how. Lillith: That’s great honey. (Gabriel sits down.). John: Does anyone want anything to drink? Franky: Coffee would be good. Jacob: Yeah I’ll have a coffee. Lillith: I’ll help you. (Lillith gets up and follows John to the kitchen. He puts the kettle on.). John: I’ll have to show you my bunker. Lillith: Bunker? John: Yes. It’s where a lot of Edens Gate will go when the Collapse comes. Lillith: So Joe is still on about that huh? John: Of course. (She looks at his chest. His shirt buttons are undone and she sees the word Sloth carved into his skin. She places her fingers over it.). Lillith: What’s this? John: My sin. The members of Edens Gate all go through the cleansing process. We are marked with our sins and baptised in the river. Lillith: Why would you hurt yourself like this? John: Joseph did it. I did his. (Lillith sighs and shakes her head.). Lillith: Mad. The pair of you. John: No. Those who want to join us in Eden have to be cleansed. We cannot have sinners among us. Lillith: Everyone sins John. None of us are perfect. John: I know that. But that is why they are cleansed. People come to me and confess their sins. I then tattoo it on them. Lillith: Have you been filling our sons head with all of this rubbish? John: I have not mentioned it to him. It’s not rubbish either. Lillith: Well it isn’t normal John. I told you years ago what your parents did to you was wrong. They told you a load of utter rubbish and you believed them. You don’t need to be dong all of this John. Marking yourself with your sin, trying to prove something. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone. John: It’s not about that. Lillith: If you say so. John: I was thinking about taking Gabriel out in my plane. He loves the idea. Lillith: No. John: Oh come on. Lillith: Absolutely not. John: He’ll be perfectly safe. Lillith: I said no John. Just make the coffee. John: Yes boss. (He makes the drinks.). John: I’m sorry about earlier. When I said we could be a family. I understand that it’s too soon. It was selfish of me. I just wanted you here with me. Lillith: Hm. You wanted me so much you left. John: I know. I’m sorry. But I hope that in time you can forgive me. Because I...I have missed you. I can’t believe I have a son. Joseph told me that I could be happy one day but that I have to make it happen. I have a chance here to have my own little family. Lillith: You already had that chance John. You blew it. (He cups her cheek.). John: I know I did. But I hope that one day you can forgive me. I love you Lillith. I am so happy that you are here. Lillith: I’m sure you are. (She picks up her coffee and goes back to the lounge. John sighs. The feelings he had all those years ago came rushing back as soon as he saw her again. He will win her back. They are meant for each other.).
