EDIT: so the person who left these tags on an earlier post of mine obviously decided to come looking through my posts and found this. They sent me an ask requesting that I remove the screenshot of their profile (sans username) because it made them feel uncomfortable. Now, I'm not one to be needlessly cruel but... honey... it's on your publicly visible profile. And it's not like I gave away your username so no one's gonna be coming for you. Also "please don't bring my identity into this"--again, you've made it publicly visible. Trust and believe there are going to be LOADS of people who are more than happy to use your identity against you in far, FAR more unkind ways. I should think you would be interested in learning as much as you can from the older members of the queer community but--I get it, newly minted adult, you know best. Us "old folks" have outlived our usefulness in your eyes.

If--as you say--this was just a moment's irritation, well... it sure seems like I got WAY under your skin. I'm afraid you're in for a LOT worse in life if this was all it took to bother you. I suggest learning to pick your battles, learn when to just let it pass on by, like leaves on the river. But, I have complied with your wishes. Doesn't change what I have to say, and it really just reinforces the point I try to make below.

Sit down, please. We need to have a talk. And this is only TENGENTIALLY related to the Bluey discourse.

Your profile says your 22. I'm going to assume that's accurate. To a lot of people, you're still just a kid because you're only just out of adolescence. You think because you're a newly minted adult that you have a complete and multi-faceted understanding of the world. I was there once. I had my "I know better than everyone and I'm going to change the world!" phase. I had my pizza-cutter phase--all edge, no point. I had my "the world is a terrible place and it should all burn down" phase. I had many other phases ranging through age 15 to 28.

WE ALL HAVE MOMENTS LIKE THIS.

When you get older, your perspective changes. It happens LITERALLY to everyone--if you're open to growth. If you adhere rigidly to what you believe when you're 18-22 by the time you're in your 30's, then you haven't grown.

Your priorities shift. What you find attractive shifts. What you find unpleasant shifts. Heaven forbid you actually figure out what I'm on about because then you might... *GASP*... have to change your mind!!

I say this with all the love and respect that anyone who is part of the queer community deserves--you WILL understand when you're older.

Right now, you're not even old enough to rent a car. You might still be in college, or maybe you're working a shitty job (because almost universally... jobs are shitty, I work a shitty job), but you have not lived through enough of the world to have amassed enough experience to properly understand why the whole "you'll understand when you're older" is so fucking powerful.

And it never stops.

10 year old me didn't understand what 15 year old me understood.

15 year old me didn't understand what 20 year old me understood.

20 year old me didn't understand what 25 year old me understood.

Certain things have not changed of course. I still believe in fairness and equality and that people who actively seek to harm others should be stopped and punished. I still believe that everyone is entitled to live how they wish to live so long as no one is being harmed.

I have however grown in certain ways. I've learned a lot more about what racism is and looks like and how it can manifest. I've learned a lot more about the queer community--especially because I was a late bloomer in that regard. I've learned a lot about politics and how the systems we live under are structured for specific purposes and those in power intrinsically work to reinforce them, no matter if they know they're doing wrong or if they think they're doing good.

Growth is necessary. If you aren't growing, then you're stagnating. And if you're stagnating, then you're dying.

Trust me. I really do mean this, and in no way disrespectfully because you clearly are so deeply bothered by this, and you may have people telling you this to dismiss your identity or your attraction or your very existence as a person... you will understand when you're older.

Experience is the greatest teacher--because it comes with a wide array of tools, including failure, embarrassment, and revelation.

There are still a great many things I do not understand, that I'm sure will come as I get older myself. I don't understand how my parents could possibly fall into right-wing conspiracy talking points. Perhaps as I get older, I'll better understand what pushed them into it--and I'll be better guarded against it myself. I used to not understand why someone would want to turn on their heated seat in the car in the middle of summer when it's 90+ outside... then I started having back issues as I got past a certain age. I didn't understand a lot--even just five years ago--that I have a better understanding of now.

That's the funny thing about time. It moves forward whether we like it to or not. Ten years ago me probably wouldn't have been as big a fan of Bluey as current me. Bandit isn't just a good dad and husband. He's confident in himself. He's satisfied with being cool-but-uncool, because he knows that chasing what's 'cool' is ultimately self-defeating and he just... is. He has flaws and imperfections and even has a temper. He's not an idealized figure up on a pedestal. He's comfortable with himself--with his life, with his identity, with who has grown into being.

I WISH I had even a MODICUM of that degree of zen sensibility.

These things may not be that important to you right now--at least when it comes to looking for a partner or being attracted to someone, but if you let yourself grow, and you let go of the superficial, and you find what really matters to you, you'll see that yeah... you did find out that you understood, and all it took was getting a little older.

Maybe I'll learn to be more chill about things. Who knows? I guess I'll have to find out when I'm older.

I’m the anon from earlier and I just wanted to say because obviously it was not clear that of course I am reblogging the smaller creators I think deserve recognition. However I’m a nobody and my less than 100 followers aren’t really going to drum up many readers for the fics that are already lacking in notes. You can of course reblog whatever you like and I already said that I have read the popular fics you reblogged and agree they deserve the recognition. But I can’t make a post about this on my own blog without being eaten alive and seen as a pariah and potentially dragging down the small creators I’m trying to lift up in the process. I’m sorry for choosing your blog to make a statement. It’s nothing against you personally. It’s a pattern I’ve noticed. People make a big effort to bring life back into the community but only want to give it back to their favorite most popular writers that already get hundreds of asks about their work and have thousands of notes on their stories. The bigger accounts all reblog one another and the smaller ones are left in the dust. How is a story with 25 notes supposed to compete on the dash when you can’t scroll down 2 posts without running into TYP again with comments all through the tags saying how amazing it is and it changed the reader’s life. They don’t. No one wants to read a story with under 100 notes if they’re being consistently spammed with stories that have thousands. What I’m trying to say is, you reblogging 3 of the most popular fics in the Eddie fandom on the first day of this new event thingy was the perfect example of what I’ve been seeing happen during this type of “lift up the creators” effort before the throwback Thursday was even created. I’m really sorry if I made you feel bad and I want to stress that I’m not trying to control what you do on your blog and I’m certainly not coming here to ask you to do something I wouldn’t do. It’s just the fact that some stories, like those you reblogged in particular are really not the target audience in my own opinion, for something like this as they’ve never left the dash in the first place and certainly not been forgotten. The thought behind it was to bring back stories that people missed because they were too busy reading the most popular fics in the fandom to give others a chance. So by everyone just “bringing back” the most popular fics. Not only are the smaller stories missing out again but anyone currently posting stories from smaller accounts are being overshadowed as well. It’s the double whammy for the small blog. Anyway thank you for participating in bringing back older stories. Also thank you for being kind to me in your reply.

I totally get what you're saying!

I have many mutuals that do in fact reblog many creators of any kind, be it with lots of notes, or not, and I do stop and read and reblog. It also depends the mutuals one has!

I have people I follow that are solely readers, so they reblog any kind of the fics that are out there.

I went into my archive yesterday to see my first fic reblogs from july of 2023, because I have so many fics in my head I do remember reading, but I can't, for the love of me, remember the exact titles or remember the usernames or I thought I did and they changed it or deactivated (which happened a lot this past year)

And I am not going to lie, I felt a little thrown back with your first anon, I felt a little anxious because I didn't reblog many at first, so I was sort of taken aback. But thank you for being kind, and show your anger at what happened with this event for now, and to show me you didn't come to talk to me to express yourself in a harsh or hateful way, and thank you for feeling like you actually CAN express yourself to me

But this isn't an event from yesterday only! It's going to happen every thursday, and I am sure more and more fics are going to see the light so others can find them

"I heard Daredevil shows up at the end!" Tristan exclaimed.

His friend Noah covered his ears. "Agh," he responded. "Don't tell me that. I haven't been on Twitter in weeks just so that I don't read any spoilers."

The two walked through the theater with tubs of popcorns in their arms and tickets for the newest Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home in their pockets. The pair of lifelong Marvel fans had returned home from their respective colleges just in time to continue their tradition of seeing the newest Marvel release together.

And this wasn't just any ordinary Marvel film. No Way Home was going to open up the Marvel multiverse. Characters from outside the MCU timeline like Doc Ock or Venom could show up and Tristan and Noah had watched the trailer reveal close to a hundred times, theorizing on what possibilities the multiverse could unfold for future films.

However, the one thing that the two friends could have never predicted was about to unfold tonight. A real-life ripple in the multiverse was about to open up in their very theater.

It happened all in a flash. They both felt the ripple affect their surroundings as they were unwittingly transported to another dimension. They collectively did a double take, only noticing a slight uncanny difference in the first moment. The theater looked almost exactly the same at a glance; however, Tristan quickly realized that everything had gotten bigger! Or... they had gotten smaller. The ticket-taker, who was now looking down at them, had grown in proportion with everything else. Tristan and Noah spilled their popcorn in shock.

"Do you need help finding your Mommy?" the ticket-taker asked, bending down to one knee in order to meet their eye level.

"Oh boys," said a voice. Tristan and Noah were immediately swept up by the arms of a ten-foot-tall woman! "You know better than to run away from Mommy, now don't you?"

Despite their cries and screams for help, Tristan and Noah were taken to the cinema's bathroom (the woman's restroom, mortifyingly) by the giant woman they only knew as "Mommy."

Although they didn't understand how they had arrived in this new dimension, their brains quickly raced to understand its rules. People from this dimension ranged from ten to twelve feet in height and the world's objects were obviously designed to accommodate them. People of Tristan's and Noah's height, around five and a half feet, were treated as children.

So, Mommy began removing their adult clothes: graphic tees, ripped jeans, and boxer briefs, leaving the two men to hide their naked shame with their hands. One of the other women in the bathroom giggled at that, causing the two to blush even more.

Tristan was changed first into a pair of training pants covered in designs of different characters from Paw Patrol. He did as he was told when Mommy asked him to raise his arms, fearing retaliation. She dressed him in an green-and-white striped shirt and snapped a pair of shortalls in place, making feel and look the part of a toddler. But, it wasn't complete until Mommy shoved a bulbous baby blue pacifier into his mouth.

Unfortunately, Noah, who had been waiting to pee just before the start of Spider-Man as to avoid leaving during the middle of the action film, had unfortunately released his full bladder into his pants at his initial sight of the giantess. So, his eyes went wide as Mommy pulled an oversized diaper out of her bag.

Noah eyed the jump from the changing table to the bathroom floor, which was actually quite far relative to him, and took the leap. There was no way this woman could put him in a diaper! Tristan watched intensely as his friend ran his way across the bathroom floor. However, Mommy's leg length was much longer and so she simply had to idle behind a fully sprinting Noah and was able to reach him in only a matter of steps.

For Noah's disobedience, he was placed ass-up on the changing table as Mommy delivered a few light smacks to his poor exposed bum. Tristan noticed that Mommy barely put any energy into what could be described as "taps," but Noah's reaction to each one was that of an absolute beating. The grown man was left red-faced, sobbing, and snotty by the tenth one. Knowing better than to question Mommy now, Noah laid as silent as possible as his crotch was wiped, powdered, and taped inside the diaper.

Nicole blushed. She wanted to listen to what her date was saying, but she got lost in his beautiful blue eyes.

Nicole had matched with Zeke on a dating app and they had hit it off straight away. Ok, so Zeke wasn't Nicole's usual type - she usually went after tough guys. "So, what do you do for a living?" Zeke asked with a boyish smile.

"I'm a front-end developer," Nicole responded.

"Oh..." Zeke said. "Is that with, like... computers?"

Ok so he doesn't seem all that smart, Nicole thought to herself. But, maybe she liked that for once. She could tell this guy was eager to make her happy and it was only the first date! She could use a bit of a Labrador boyfriend. In fact - it was a bit rude to notice - but Nicole could see the bulge in the man's pants he was so excited.

Nicole took a sip of her drink before she began to dumb down her explanation. Before she got a chance to explain, however, Nicole was interrupted as a couple walked up next to their table. Zeke's goofy smile disappeared as the woman appeared to be upset with him.

"Tr- Trish?" Zeke asked nervously, clearly recognized the woman. "Wh- What are you doing here?"

The woman who Zeke had called Trish placed her hands on her hips. "That's Mommy to you, young man," Trish responded. "And I should be asking you the same thing."

The Hypnotist

"You are about to fall into a deep sleep"

Rachel nodded with her eyes closed.

"Now... sleep!" the hypnotist commanded, swinging a pendulum in front of her.

Rachel's head dropped as the hypnosis took control and she entered her trance. Her hand continued to hold on to that of her husband, Evan.

The hypnotist James turned to his friend Evan. "Are you sure you want to go through with this?" he asked. "Once I alter her mind, it can't be changed."

Evan nodded. He had put a lot of thought into this. It was the last chance to save their marriage. The pair had moved in together after their wedding ceremony to disastrous effects. Evan worked an eight-hour job in banking and it was too stressful coming home after a long day of work to a messy house and no dinner made. He knew he shouldn't expect that from Rachel, who also worked eight hours albeit in teaching, but with both of them working, there was no way their shared house would be habitable.

He had asked Rachel to quit before, but she had taken it as quite the insult. She found it unfair that she should be the stay-at-home partner and she only got angrier when Evan reminded her that he made significantly more banking.

So, he turned to his friend James. Evan hadn't believed hypnotism could actually work. But watching James help people break their bad habits or forget about former loves, Evan had realized the effectiveness of James' profession. So, he asked him if he would help the couple with their situation.

Of course, Rachel would have never had made herself a willing participant. Evan made a small white lie that she would be hypnotized to quit smoking, and under those circumstances, she had excitedly agreed. He did feel bad for lying, but it was to help both of them. And so, Evan prodded James to finish altering Rachel's mind.

James sighed. "When I snap my fingers, you will awake," he instructed. "And your main priority will be taking care of Evan and your house."

James snapped and Rachel woke from the trance.

Evan and Rachel returned home while Evan patiently waited for the hypnotic spell to take effect.

It wasn't long until it did. The next morning, Rachel sat down with Evan and explained to him that after some thought she had decided to quit her teaching job so that she could look after him and keep the house clean. Evan applauded her decision, internally hyping himself up for a clean house and fresh dinner for when he returned from work.

And for the next week of work, that's exactly what he got. His clothes were picked up off the floor and washed, the carpets were vacuumed and spotless, and the dishwasher was empty each day. Better than all that, Evan got to sit down as soon as he got home to a cooked dinner: chicken, scallops, pasta, stroganoff, you name it! All the guilt Evan had from his manipulation had washed away. This was the life.

The second week, however, things began to noticeably change. Yes, the house was still clean upon getting home. But, his wife's dinners started to change. Chicken was replaced by chicken nuggets; pasta by mac and cheese. Instead of getting a beer with dinner, Rachel would pour him a tall glass of milk.

"Do you think you could make that mushroom stroganoff again?" Evan finally asked on Wednesday in front of a plate of pizza bagels.

"Silly boy," Rachel condescended. "You wouldn't like mushrooms. They're icky." She stuck out her tongue as she tied a napkin around her husband's neck in case he clumsily dropped any of his dinner on himself.

Melanie punched the armrest of her couch. "Fuck!" she shouted. Those advertisements weren't kidding. Blood Legends VI: Underworld had just come out today and supposedly it was the hardest game in the series.

Melanie was a self-proclaimed pro at Blood Legends, but she was not a gracious loser. She mostly resorted to playing campaign-driven video games now since her bad attitude when losing had caused most of her friends to avoid playing competitive multiplayer her at all costs. She had even been disqualified from local tournaments for poor conduct. A grown woman throwing game equipment in rage was frowned upon.

And the new game had proven itself to be a challenge so far. Despite her proficiency at the other entries in the series, Melanie had found herself stuck at the game's second boss for an hour and a half. If she lost to the Necromancer one more time, she would have to return to Nabonidus Castle and farm more healing potions.

The game may have been hard, but not everything in the advertising had been true. Melanie had heard that supposedly the game would punish poor gameplay by affecting the player's real life. She had scoffed. How would that even be possible? Besides, she had lost to this boss long enough and the only way her life had been affected had been the enormous loss of time.

Melanie walked up to the Necromancer once more.

Slash. Slash. Combo. Dodge. Slash.

"WHAT?!" Melanie screamed, standing up and stomping as the necromancer killed her character with a blast of dark magic. "Bullshit! I hit fucking dodge! This game fucking blows!" Melanie threw her controller across the room in an absolute tantrum. Though the controller left a crack in her wall, her outburst didn't end there. She flipped over her coffee table before laying face down on her couch and screeching into her couch.

"Looks like somebody isn't MATURE enough for this stage," the Necromancer cackled as "GAME OVER" appeared on the screen. "Try again."

Mel sighed and sat back up. Odd, she thought. She hadn't heard that dialogue response so far. No matter, she acknowledge that she may have overreacted. I mean, how hard could this be? If she really focused and gave it her all, she could beat this. She grabbed her stuffed unicorn Princess from the other end of the couch and cuddled it for good luck.

After a brief moment, she went to return to the game before realizing that her controller had landed on the other side of the room where she had thrown it. With Princess in one hand and her other hand firmly planting her thumb in her mouth for sucking, Mel toddled over to where the hole in her wall was in her adorable unicorn skirt and pink-and-purple striped fluffy socks.

She grabbed the Fischer-Price controller from the floor and sat her butt on the floor in front of the TV, not having the energy to jump up onto the couch itself. Her eyes locked and her thumb removed from her mouth, she was ready to tackle the challenge and pressed "Resume" on Necromancer's Math Adventure.

She only needed five correct answers to defeat the Necromancer's magic with the power of math. "13+9" appeared on the screen. Mel placed her babyish controller on her lap and held up her fingers to count. Wait, she only had ten fingers. Mel frowned. After a moment of thought, she remembered! She could start with three fingers and pretend it's thirteen.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9!" the grown woman counted out loud as she held up an extra finger for each number. She had two fingers up at the end. So, the answer was... twenty-two!

"Blast!" the onscreen Necromancer cried. "Your math is too powerful!"

"Yes!" Mel cheered following what seemed like an incredible victory. Only four more questions.

"4 x 7" followed. Mel let out a high pitched whine. Multiplication?! No fair! She was no good at times tables! She used all the power in her brain to focus. 20, she guessed. Wrong. 26. Wrong again. Her final guess was 32.

"Looks like your math skills weren't good enough to defeat me," shouted the Necromancer. "Better luck next time!"

"Poopy!" Mel yelled as the "GAME OVER" text reappeared. "That's no fair! Multiplication's too hard! No fair! No fair!"

Mel continued to shout as she kicked her arms and legs against the floor, causing her beloved stuffie Princess to take a beating against the ground. Once her fit ended, she threw Princess at the couch and crossed her arms letting out an audible "hmph."

NEXT! I actually have a few multi-fandom comfort reads right now for all my current ships, if that's okay?? I like sharing great reads in other fandoms I'm a part of since DBH and Red Dwarf are kind of tiny fandoms, lol, and since I'm a rec blog, never hurts to help those people also get traffic from an unlikely source, hahah. I just don't file them as diligently as I do with Johnlock, so apologies for the tags.

Let's do a top 20, and I'll start with Johnlock obviously, and then give you a few from each of my other current fandoms, if you are willing to fandom jump! Some are probably obvious, and maybe not, but I hope you enjoy all of them!

Bit of a "fave fics" and bit of a "I read these as palate cleansers or if I want to read something familiar", hahha! You may notice a trend that I tend to veer towards long comfort reads... usually after a string of fics I didn't enjoy, I jump to a different fandom and read something long and familiar.

Of course these aren't EVERY single one I have ever re-read, I literally just went down my list of iBooks and put down not just the recent re-reads, BUT the ones that I KNOW the story off-heart just by the title.

AND I also avoided listing MBS and PiaLR since you listed them up there, but they are ALSO my comfort reads as well and glad we share a similar love for them.

People who choose to hide behind "Anonymous" don't get to claim "you're attacking me because of this aspect of my identity." Nameless gray circles with sunglasses don't have an identity. There is no possible way that ais (or Luke for that matter) could have know that you're supposedly "a minor." You deliberately withheld that information from them when you decided to attack them on Anon, and the only reason you're pulling that card now is because you're desperately trying to pretend that they're just as bad as you are. You misgendered them and got called out for it, so now you're trying to pretend that they're "attacking uwu minors" (conveniently leaving out that one of you is SENDING THE ASKS and the other one is only ANSWERING THEM, so anybody with so much as half a braincell can tell that you're the one attacking and harassing them) so that you can feel better about your misogynistic transphobic ass.

However, you CLEARLY had read Ironpines' pinned post, if you're making claims about their age, so don't think you can hide behind "yOu tYpE LiKe A giRl" as an "excuse" for misgendering them. You knew that ais is nonbinary, and deliberately misgendered them to punish them for *tagging their azula-related posts as related to azula* when YOU didn't want see it and aren't mature enough to use the block or filter-tags options and cultivate your own online experience like a rational human capable of thought.

Also, deliberately turning "typing" into a gendered activity isn't as much of an "excuse" as you seem to think it is. Either you're a radfem that knew ais is non-binary and deliberately misgendered them to hurt them and are now lying to cover your ass since it got called out, OR you're a radfem who thinks "typing" is inexplicably something that can be separated into male/female categories. Either way, you're a RadFem.

Also also, good job trying to gaslight ais into thinking your tantrum is somehow their fault by pretending that they called you a RadFem for "caring about tags" even though OBVIOUSLY they called you a RadFem for misgendering them on purpose, and also trying to gaslight them by LITERALLY CALLING THEM CRAZY for pointing out your inappropriate behavior. Gold star, really.

So, let's take note: You're attempting to gaslight someone because you got called out for being transphobic in your attempts to gatekeep the tags, all in defense of your oh-so-precious girlboss.

Hello, familiar anon here, I didn't ask the question about an SOK ending where Yun lives and gains redemption. I also wouldn't mind having my own tag. I haven't found any other evidence of Yun shipping Kyoshi and Rangi outside of "The Boy From Makapu". How does Kyoshi view Yun later in her life( up to the first year after "The Meeting", creating Kyoshi Island nearly 25 years later, the last years of her life)? Would Kyoshi ever mention or talk about Yun after the events of The Shadow of Kyoshi?

hello! and yes I have some thoughts on this and how it would impact the advice Kyoshi gave to Roku and Aang. this got long but I’d love to break down parts of it to write fic, which I think I will do and perhaps post before Kyoshi Fortnight. But I digress, it’s long enough that I have decided to use subtitles. If anything skip to the end about the advice she gave Roku and Aang I think it’s most relevant to what I want to say and also my favorite part.

what I talk about under the cut: the ways I believe yun’s death would impact kyoshi’s actions after tsok and what the advice she gave aang and roku actually means (my thoughts on “only justice will bring peace” means)

would kyoshi talk about yun during her lifetime?

Yes. First off, it would be impossible to avoid him in the political landscape, because it is mentioned that he passed lots of judgements and signed treaties, ect. Although Kyoshi has grown in her leadership style and it’s turned a little (a lot) anti-establishment, she would still need to deal with the fallout of Yun not being the Avatar, because there would be a need to re-sign treaties and settle disputes with people seeking to take advantage of others now that the Avatar has “changed” would have to be dealt with and in tandem, Yun’s legacy.

But also, in a duology that features grief, I find it a natural continuation of the narrative that Yun would be mourned. You don’t stop knowing or loving someone after they pass, and I feel like mourning all of Yun—the boy he was, where he came from, his legacy, the decisions he made, the impact he had on the people around him, even how he hurt people—is only natural and is slightly unavoidable. I think Kyoshi mourns all of her deceased loved ones.

Just, like the concept of this: she’s always hated pai sho but now when she faces a board in her gut and in her throat things feel wrong because it reminds her of what Yun had to do to survive. A breeze smells like the flour and air Kelsang sent into her face the moments before everything changed. She collects pebbles that Lek would’ve liked. Rangi brings her fire lilies for an anniversary and she starts crying. She sings songs with Wong that were her parent’s favorites that coincidentally, Kelsang knew too.

He was Rangi’s friend, too. Auntie Mui and Hei-Ran are sure to mourn him in their own ways. In tSoK Kyoshi calls her team Avatar a group of contradictions and misfits and in his way, Yun was too. The false Avatar. What a title!

A continuation of the concept: Rangi and Kyoshi remind each other of him every day for a while, swapping stories about him when it gets to be too much, making eye contact when they can hear his voice making light of something stupid an official has said. Hei-Ran makes her do drills she made Yun do. Auntie Mui makes his favorite dish on his birthday that they do not pass in silence, because then what would they be, that group of misfits, to forget another outcast? If they don’t mourn the boy from Yokoya who will mourn them, or who would’ve mourned them if they hadn’t been so lucky? Who will care for the beggars and orphans of the world if not the Avatar who was once one of them and her companions? In a way, the retribution and pain of it all is justice for the life that Kyoshi took. Like, there’s just so much to unpack in the way she says “Was I right about anything at all? What will they say about me? Avatar Kyoshi, who killed her friend because she couldn’t save him?” But I don’t think her guilt would silence her.

That being said, Yun was fundamentally a victim of a system that failed him. The same one that failed Kyoshi. In another way, her actions are justice on a world that failed her and her best friend and the similarities they shared, and she’s able to take those actions because of the way that Yun impacted her, for better or for worse. So yes, I think during her lifetime, she would speak of Yun and who he was, not letting people forget the ways they (and she) failed him and how easily everyone wants to forget their failure. It brings me to the way she was so angry with the Earth Kingdom establishment for discarding him and trying to hide history away. I don’t think she’d ever do that, even if she did...uh, dispatch him.

kyoshi, immortality, and her role as an avatar

I’d like to turn to two passages:

Kyoshi: “The way you describe it, you’d have to decide what version of yourself you’d be stuck as, forever.”

Lao Ge: “Exactly! Those who grow, live and die. The stagnant pool is immortal, while the clear flowing river dies an uncountable number of deaths.”

and

In the future, perhaps, she’d become finalized like carved stone. It would be easier to deal with the world then. She could only hope.

She still had to be careful not to lose her balance and fall. Kyoshi kept her eyes focused on her difficult path, sometimes stumbling but making sure to catch herself, taking one step at a time.

This isn’t directly related to what I think she would say, but more about how she lets her experiences, and therefore, her experiences and relationship with Yun, affect who she is. Here, F.C. Yee is detailing the person we see in her cameo in A:tLA. It’s a testament to her growth, yes, but also to how she lived so long. She’s allowed to grow now, while she’s young and still learning. But eventually Kyoshi’s growth will wane, leaving us with the iron woman we saw in A:tLA.

Remember when I said I would call F.C. Yee a sap for the very last Kyoshi POV line? It’s the last sentence in my second excerpt, is that Kyoshi is allowing herself make mistakes. It’s pretty obviously a little deeper than the concept of walking down a slope: She became one of the most revered Avatars, we know how her story ends, if not lots of the in-betweens, but F.C. Yee tells us right here in that sentence. She changed and she learned.

I think, however, that eventually she had to pick a place to stop in order to stop aging. If I had to pick a point where she became “immortal” I’d pick Rangi’s peaceful and timely death surrounded by her loved ones on Yokoya (not Kyoshi Island since I’m going to maintain that her A;tLA cameo was “immortal” Kyoshi) and I think Lao Ge killed her—or at least convinced her to let go.

further thoughts on her longevity: rangi’s role and future

Ok before anybody comes into my inbox like “um zey herglowinggirl I need you to know that actually Rangi also lived to 230 😌″ because I understand the sentiment it’s more like here’s what I’d like to discuss: Kyoshi can’t be immortal around Rangi because Rangi is in so many ways her catalyst for growth. First off, it would be completely out of character for Rangi to be immortal, because she’s constantly moving and being and feeling and judging and that changes her. Positive jing. And Lao Ge says it: “those who grow, live and die.” Rangi believes in the best and strives for the best, for perfection. For Kyoshi to freeze herself and become immortal, that would require picking an imperfect state. And as we know, Sei’naka women do not accept imperfection 😤.

Although Rangi promises to always be by Kyoshi’s side, I think in the latter years of Kyoshi’s live it’s more like the impact that Rangi has had on her in that frozen state. That voice of Rangi’s is part of Kyoshi in those years. However, without Rangi, it is unlikely that Kyoshi will always or commonly choose to act on it. It’s stated multiple times throughout the novels that Rangi is Kyoshi’s center and that she doesn’t know who she’d be without Rangi, but I think the logical conclusion is immortal. With Rangi’s death she becomes her own center by stopping her growth; with Rangi’s death she just becomes...that stone she was talking about, where it does get easier to make decisions because you’re not striving to constantly change and grow. It’s almost a coping mechanism, if you will. Because Kyoshi is more than Rangi, can function without Rangi, it’s just not necessarily pretty.

lao ge’s role and future

Which brings me to my “in my personal version of canon Lao Ge kinda maybe killed Kyoshi” point. Rangi is in no way Kyoshi’s morality, but she is very much the idealistic ‘better’ half. With this catalyst of hope and change gone, I think back to the creation of the Dai Li—it very much sounds to me like something Jianzhu would do. Kyoshi, who had previously been the breakdown of negotiations, created a secret op police force?

I think the moment Kyoshi started being the establishment, the moment she was the band-aid instead of the solution (much like Yun was, hint hint) Lao Ge would’ve paid her a visit. Either this or the creation of the Dai Li created a catalyst for perhaps an existential crisis, perhaps just being tired, perhaps simply knowing what is best...Kyoshi is, and always will be, a sworn criminal who cannot uphold the law, only her own judgements. She is both the law and the breaking and bending of it, and when she loses this balance when Rangi falls from her side and she becomes her own rock I think it would swing her away from her center, and this is where she becomes immortal. Eventually, it would become enough of an issue for people to intervene and tell her that her time as an Avatar is coming to an end.

advice to future avatars

This is my favorite point and I’ll tie it back to Yun in just a second. I have posted about thinking about the impact of Yun’s death on Kyoshi and how that would’ve impacted her legacy and the advice she gave Roku and Aang before. Honestly what strikes me is how proud Kyoshi would be of Aang. The way that each Avatar must learn to forge their own way and become their own person and what their era needs, balancing themselves, is something so lovely. I think Kyoshi would’ve absolutely loved how Aang took the advice of his predecessors and said “no, I know what would be better for me,” and I think post-tSoK Kyoshi, who has learned she has to forge her own way and style as a leader, would love and be so proud of him for that.

However, that doesn’t mean that her advice doesn’t have weight. I think mainly her “immortal” phase would perhaps have an impact on the way Yun impacts her advice. I think “only justice will bring peace” also speaks to the finality of death. Just like immortality, death keeps growth from happening. “only justice will bring peace” is also a nod to the way you must learn to cope with your actions and the way you feel about them. It’s also about Aang’s inner peace, which is something I don’t think I’ve ever seen mentioned. Everyone always wants to talk about what he should’ve done and how Kyoshi was right because she told Aang about her choice to let Chin die, but I think she actually guided him to the idea that you should be ok with yourself. To be confident in what you do and take up responsibility for your actions. Kyoshi wasn’t telling him murder was good. She was telling him she owned up to her actions and chose to make those decisions as an Avatar. To me, this finality speaks of growth after Yun’s death and the end of tSoK. She has grown and then frozen, but that means she has changed.

And although I don’t have an answer for what advice she might’ve given Roku, I think it’s a good way to interpret this. The only thing keeping Kyoshi from being honest about Yun’s death is the fact that Zoryu has “Yun” locked up. I think this is likely one of her biggest regrets, that she cannot be honest and responsible for something that weighs so heavily on her soul. This, I think, guides her advice. Only justice will bring peace. Now that I’ve thought it out, perhaps it wasn’t Lao Ge, and perhaps it was the idea that Yun had never been done justice and perhaps that turmoil never changed, which made her long-lived but not quite immortal. She cannot quite know the peace of death nor of life.

I think she must’ve told Roku that no matter what, he must accept the consequences of what he does. He’s not willing to loose that friendship and I think Kyoshi would’ve understood that, and the questions Roku would’ve had to pose himself as an Avatar. That is Kyoshi’s advice. Only justice, true justice in the form of accountability and self-actualization as a leader, will allow you to make good decisions. The acceptance of this: that whatever he does, he must be willing to accept it’s legacy, learn from it, and teach the next Avatar just as she let Yun’s death affect her leadership and what she taught. And I think that’s probably incredibly poetic, even if I’m getting a bit ahead of myself.

Hi!! Stumbled on your blog via the buried stars tag and I'd like to say thank you so much for the kr>eng translations! There aren't many english-speaking fans so I was happy to read about the game & its characters. I was wondering, what do all the characters call each other in Korean? Or what honorifics they use? I could hear it in the audio sometimes (Gyu-hyuk: "Do-yoon-ah", or I think Seil: "Inha-ssi" ?) but I didn't catch all of them. Google tells me some of it is based off of (1/2)

(2/2) Google tells me some of it is based off of respect, friendship/closeness, or just being older/younger than one another, but I'm still new to the intricacies of what it implies about the characters' relationships and how their individual personalities are. If it isn't too much trouble, I'd love to know ^^

Hello!! You're very welcome and in fact thank you for the question, I'm always receptive to more excuses to talk about this game!

It seems like you already have some context on rules surrounding Korean honorifics. There is a lot of nuance, obviously, but to put it simply...Yes, I'd say the speech patterns the cast (particularly, the TOP5—the others are a bit more complicated) uses are what you'd see in a casual social setting between people who already know each other somewhat, but aren't necessarily friends, which is what I think I would expect from a group of twentysomethings who probably had a chance to bond socially as a cohort throughout the whole audition process (it's explained in the Q&A that they lived together in a dorm for most of the show, too). And as you've pointed out the rules there I would say are much more tied to age and closeness. I'd generally characterize their speech patterns as informal, but polite—basically, you have to use the polite form with people who are older than you, but you can use casual speech (banmal) with people who are the same age or younger. The exception is if you are close enough with someone that you mutually decide it's OK to drop honorifics despite the age difference. More on that later.

The order of the age of each of the main cast are as follows: Seungyeon (33), Juyoung (28), Gyuhyuk (27), Doyoon and Inha (25), Seil (24), and Hyesung (20). So with no other caveats we'd expect, for example, Doyoon to use polite form with Juyoung and Gyuhyuk but not with Inha and Hyesung, etc. Now, with that as the basis, here are some notes based on what I can remember, though disclaimer that my memory isn't perfect, and there are also things I might have missed because I haven't done a full playthrough yet with Korean text.

(Character spoilers for the "Other" section at the end; otherwise a few minor spoilers)

TOP5

Juyoung (28)

Juyoung is the oldest of the main cast, so she uses banmal with pretty much everyone and refers to them by name, or name + ah/ya (which is the casual vocative marker), and it's perfectly acceptable for her to do so.

The rest of the TOP5 call her 언니/누나 (unni/noona, lit. "older sister" but more generally used to refer to any slightly older female acquaintance; which one is used depends on the speaker's gender). They also sometimes call her 영이 언니/누나 (Young-i unni/noona) for short, which I thought was cute. There's actually a Q&A question that asked about this because it is a very familiar/affectionate nickname, and the director explained that Juyoung asked the others to call her that because she was afraid of seeming unapproachable due to her age and because of the fact that she was a former idol.

Gyuhyuk (27)

As the second oldest, I believe he uses banmal with everyone but Juyoung. The younger male characters all call him 형 (hyung, lit. "older brother", see above), though I can't seem to remember Inha calling him 오빠 (oppa). I might be projecting that assumption onto her based on her somewhat brash personality, since 오빠 can come off as a bit...Girlish? Cutesy? Flirtatious? in certain contexts? Idk.

Doyoon (25)

What's notable about Doyoon is that he uses the polite form with Juyoung, but not Gyuhyuk. He calls Gyuhyuk 형 (hyung), of course, but he uses the casual form, which suggests that they're close enough with each other that they've already agreed to drop formalities. Their first rapport event gives me the sense that they're especially close, too, compared to the other contestants (as does just like...waves in their general direction, but anyway,)

Inha (25)

Inha is the same age as Doyoon, so you would also expect her to use polite form with Juyoung and Gyuhyuk. However, she doesn't with either of them IIRC.

As for Juyoung, I don't remember how much of this came through in the text of the game itself, but I would guess they were probably already pretty close in a way similar to Doyoon and Gyuhyuk were. At the very least, I think I remember one of the Q&A answers indicating that they kept in touch very frequently after the events of the game.

I don't really remember too many interactions between Inha and Gyuhyuk, tbh. I do recall that she (not sure if any others do) refers to him as 규 (Gyu) at least once, which I think is adorable, LMAO. This might indicate that they may have been on close enough terms to use casual speech? But then again, she did seem to resent Gyuhyuk at least a little bit for the scholarship thing, and according to the Q&A she took much longer than Juyoung and Doyoon to see him again after the game, so??? She could just be kind of disrespectful like that, which...Kinda tracks, honestly??? 🤷‍♀️Like I said, I don't remember too much about these two, so don't take my word on this.

Hyesung (20)

Hyesung is the youngest, so you would expect him to use polite speech with everyone, but he, uh, does not. With anyone. LMAO. Maybe he's just super tight with everyone, but something tells me it's more because he's a rude little shit who's just Like That. (I mean, he uses banmal with Seil, who does hate his guts, so.) He does call everyone 형/누나 (hyung/noona), though, at least—though, now that I think about it, Seil might be an exception to that, LOL.

Since he's the youngest, everyone just calls him Hyesung.

Also, this is tangential, but I also just wanted to throw in that Hyesung notably has a slight "old man" dialect in that he sometimes uses expressions and slang that you would expect from the older generation, because growing up his only friends were the other vendors at his mom's fish market. This is unrelated to politeness, but it does come off as really funny considering how young he is, and definitely gives his speech a unique vibe.

Staff

Seil (24)

The speech patterns between Seil and the TOP5 are pretty similar to speech patterns within TOP5 itself, which is to say, fairly informal but still polite. He uses polite form with everyone older than him, and uses banmal with Hyseung. I actually wouldn't necessarily have expected this to be the case since he technically has more of a professional relationship to the TOP5 than they do with each other (so I wouldn't have been surprised if he actually used formal speech, rather than just polite), but it's probably because he's in that same age range and because he was the staff member who was closest to them socially.

I believe you are correct that he calls Inha, and Inha alone, -씨 (-ssi), which is actually formal, rather than simply polite. Probably just indicating his high level of admiration for her in particular.

The rest of the main cast just call him Seil. Hyesung also occasionally calls Seil 세일 FD님 (Seil FD-nim) which is technically extremely formal, but obviously said in sarcasm.

Seungyeon (33)

I believe she calls everyone by their full name, and uses casual speech with them. Makes sense. She's the boss.

Everyone else calls her PD님 (PD-nim, formal). Including, notably, Hyesung. AFAICR Seungyeon is the only character Hyesung shows even an ounce of deference toward in this game. 😛

Other

Suchang (27) & Suyeon (18)

AFAIK Suchang only really has in-game interactions with Doyoon and Suyeon, and Suyeon only has interactions with Suchang, who she of course calls 오빠 (oppa), in the familial sense. Though IIRC at the very end she does once refer to Doyoon as 그분 (geubun, lit. "that person") and 도윤님 (Doyoon-nim), both of which are extremely formal/deferential in tone but in kind of a "little girl talks about her crush as if they were Prince Charming" sort of way...Which causes Suchang to hilariously go into overprotective/jealous older brother mode.

The Ha siblings use casual speech with each other, which is standard among siblings. However, Suchang also talks down to Doyoon, which is pretty audacious of him considering they're strangers—he basically talks to Doyoon as if they're already friends. He's kind of an audacious guy in general, though, so I'd say that kind of fits his character.

Doyoon, on the other hand, being the polite young man that he is, uses polite speech with Suchang. There's a funny scene where he accidentally slips up and uses banmal, and then immediately gets called out by Suchang, who chews him out for talking down to someone older than him. (Though ofc Doyoon had no way of knowing this, and also, Suchang shouldn't be using banmal with a stranger in the first place.) At the very end of the true ending when they finally meet, Doyoon actually takes it up a level and calls Suchang 수창씨 (Suchang-ssi) but Suchang tells him to drop it and just call him 형 (hyung). It's sweet.

Digiweek Day 7 - Free day | TAIORA DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT!

It's the 1st of August, Odaiba Memorial Day and @digiweek is coming to an end. So this day I would like to end Digiweek and celebrate the 1st of August with a little bang...

As some of you might know we are currently building a Taiora Discord server. It's not open yet, we want to be prepared in the best way possible and I can tell you: we're on our way! And it's gonna be awesome! :D

How, in Kizuna, both Yamato and Taichi know what Sora is up to and even though Taichi and Sora grew apart, they still have a special connection that's here to stay forever and shouldn't be left unsaid

Also, a little note and disclaimer: I can see people percepting this post as a Taiora-shipper heavily vouching for romantic!Taiora and bashing Sorato. Interpret it however you like, but just know that's not how I approached this meta. It's Sorato-friendly and Sorato-appreciative. Sure, it gives reasons for romantic!Taiora to have potential in canon, but it's mostly directed on how I see the -platonic- connection between Taichi and Sora and how it's portrayed in the Kizuna movie.

That being said, I do not own Digimon and therefore this is my view on it. I also didn't read the Kizuna novel, so everything not compliant with the novel is due to that. Anyway, happy readings!

Who remembers the Digimon movie Diaboromon strikes back probably knows how Sora is not present during the fight because she's on the tennis club trip. Or actually on her way back. We learn about this, because Koushiro asks where Sora is and Yamato -being her boyfriend obviously- is the only one who knows the answer. Cute boyfriend, truly!

In the Kizuna movie we see a little call back to this particular scene when Yamato and Taichi are eating together and talk about what all the others are up to (and how they seem to be the only ones who have no clue about their future yet. I feel that, unlike Koushiro I didn't run a freaking tech company at 21??!!! Seriously, who does that?!). Taichi sums up all the 01 Chosen Children + Daisuke, except for two: Takeru and Sora. Of course Yamato knows what Takeru is up to, so Taichi leaves that for Yamato to tell.

As for Sora... I think that's a bit harder and I've been thinking about this since the first time I saw it. Especially after I saw this post floating around on my dash every once in a while (and yes the Taiora-shipper in me wants my Taiora-heart to be soothed BUT this is not the main reason, believe me) and I just think Yamato isn't the only one who knows. Now let me try to explain myself.

Last week this very sweet Anon found my Tumblr filled with my never ending courageous love for Taichi and Sora, a.k.a. Taiora <3

Anon asked me about a possible Taiora Discord server. It got me thinking and I’m ready to do an experiment! Because Taiora deserves all the love it can get.

Here’s the deal:

I’m a team player, a brainstormer and dislike working solo. Besides, I’m an ‘on-the-go learner’. So I’m looking for a maximum of 10 Taiora shippers/lovers/likers who want to figure out the wonderful world of Discord with me and build a Taiora server together. This will be for a maximum of 2 months.

Together we can make up the terms/rules/guidelines, channels, roles, et cetera. To me it’s important to create an open and safe space!

We can try some of the features, maybe divide roles (because I don’t feel like moderating this thing all by myself...) and so on. This way I/we can prepare ourselves properly before we open it up to a wider audience!

If you’re interested in taking part in the experiment group/builders group you can send me a message here! I haven’t figured out how to send invitations or how to add new members to a server in Discord yet, so if you do know how to please let me know haha!

21. What is/was your favourite subject in school?

Language Arts/English! This should be a surprise to nobody lol, especially now that I teach it. But I always had really great teachers in these classes and always really enjoyed having discussions about the books/novels we read. I loved getting to be creative with projects too.

32. What's your favorite time of day?

Hm. This one's hard. I really like the early morning and very late evening. There's such a stillness and peace to these times, when most people are asleep, the world is quiet and you have some free time to think deeply about things. It almost seems otherworldly and special.

45. Do you believe in the death penalty?

Oof. This is a hard one. I would say yes and no. I think it depends on the crime. There are so many nuanced ideas in regards to this and all I can really say is it's different for each person.

79. What's your favorite Disney movie?

The Lion King!

99. Do you curse/swear often?

Sort of. It depends on where I am. Around my friends, I do. Anywhere else, not so much! I cursed for the first time in front of one of my teacher friends and she looked so taken aback lol.

Anyone selling physical Pandora Hearts Volumes?

I know this is a stretch considering how astronomical the prices are for the physical volumes of Pandora Hearts right now, but is anyone selling or willing to part with any they no longer need? I’m trying to complete my collection and the volumes I’m missing: 8, 9, 12, 15 and 16 are impossible to get, or extremely expensive. I have all the others, I’m just missing a few in the middle and have a hard time reading things digitally. Please reach out if you or anyone you know is willing to sell them <3

Theory: Noé's Teacher is involved with/is Charlatan (Spoiler Alert)

So I just watched the newest episode with @from-a-distant-end and we came up with some things/connected some dots. Here’s what we got:

Louis and Dominique's Grandfather saved Noé (leverage for him to be trusted because if he saved Noé, he must be good, right?)

Noé is not afraid of the blue moon (so he can get close/see what the book is about without being afraid or biased)

Noé is very naive and obviously trusts his teacher/can be easily manipulated with his lack of knowledge

Grandpappy De Sade wants to know the true nature of the book (perhaps so he knows what he's up against/what it can do in terms of curse bearers)

Louis asks his grandfather why he left out the papers about cursebearers and then is told that his grandfather wanted to see what he would do with free will (Experimenting on him to see how he would do while cursed/if it would take hold)

He didn't kill Louis until Noé managed to stop him/get to him (goes back to free will/maybe not wanting other people to know that curse bearers can be stopped/interrupted when they lose it)

The grandfather's creepy smile is way too similar to Charlatan (0/10 do not recommend)

personal interpretation on why i think wei wuxian suits gryffindor best

someone on the mdzs fic rec and discussion server brought up wwx and what house he'd be in:

my first assumption was gryffindor, obviously. a quick backtrack and double check would lead me to say he's fit for all houses, but when i really thought about it i returned to gryffindor

some would definitely say "i think he's x, therefore he's in y house" and that's your personal interpretation! which i'm perfectly okay with. but me, i think wwx would be part of gryffindor, through and through. a little bit of consideration towards hufflepuff, but the final choice and name the sorting hat would announce i'm sure is gryffindor.

the main reason for me would be that although wwx fits the basic trait for three out of four houses (reason as to why he isn't ambitious will be explained), all the houses have their own common flaws as well, which is also part of the judgement the sorting hat makes. wwx fits the positives of nearly every house, but we can't say that for the negative.

longer detailed interpretation below the cut:

wwx and his relation to every house, ranked from what (i personally think is) not his true house to what i think is his true house. (aka why i think wwx is a gryffindor)

slytherin - he isn't ambitious; yes he has ambitions, but in the true slytherin sense he doesn't, because he doesn't think he needs to actively pursue them. "but he did chase after some of his ambitions, didn't he?" yes. one of his biggest ambitions was to take down the wens as revenge, which is a very hufflepuff/gryffindor reason. does he have "ends justify the means" moments? yes, but he doesn't fit the most defining trait in the first place imo, and this is also common with gryffindor anyways.

ravenclaw - he is intelligent and resourceful and his take on the world as he grows is a sign of wisdom, but ravenclaws tend to value knowledge above all else and it leads to disregard of things like justice, but wwx is very rooted to his morals and justice (see leaving everything behind to save others. this also defines him as a hufflepuff and gryffindor). they're stubborn by staying rooted to the facts and nothing else but facts moves them (which is why i see lwj in ravenclaw)

hufflepuff - self explanatory, this bitch is so loyal to the point of self-sacrifice. god. i want to smack him. hufflepuffs however tend to be the kind, underestimated ones. nobody underestimates wwx even if he is kind, and he's often made himself the center of attention. hufflepuffs are stubborn for the sake of themselves and everyone around them (again, leaving everything behind to save others)

gryffindor - brave. wwx is very very very much brave i don't even need to explain this. yet he is reckless, he assumes things and often doesn't think them through, his decisions can be subconsciously selfish because he forgets to take others into consideration (LEAVING EVERYTHING BEHIND TO SAVE OTHERS). gryffindors also tend to be the morally strong, not to mention their brand of stubborn - will not back down for majorly personal reasons (although it can be argued that this can be attributed to slytherins through their determination towards ambitions). i'd argue that he fits gryffindor perfectly

conclusion:

Wei Wuxian is a Gryffindor.

Nickname: Dicko. It's an abbreviation of my last name and something I've had since I was a child, but I rarely actually use it.

Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius, which isn't that fitting as I'm all about details and I'm not terribly idealistic.

Height: I'm 5'10".

Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw, fitting considering my analytical nature and academic focus.

Favourite music/band: I don't have a 100% favourite, I usually listen to whatever is good and then rotate. However, here's a peek at who I'm currently listening to:
