The Luxor Obelisk is over 3000 years old and was originally situated outside the Luxor temple in Egypt. The basic structure of the obelisk as a religious monument came from the Egyptians themselves,  the long column and point at the top was to point towards Ra their chief god, and Sun god. The use of obelisks did not stop there, but it continued throughout the centuries changing as the monument itself was used for different religions, one being Christianity. The Christians put a cross on the top to pay homage to Jesus and his sacrifice. Even in Washington D.C., an obelisk is used to pay homage to George Washington! The use of such architecture thousands of years ago as influenced those all way until today!

The Luxor Obelisk now resides in Paris in the place de Concorde. It was a marvel that the French were able to get the Obelisk from Egypt all the way to Paris! Being 75 feet tall and 280 tons it is an amazing feat given technology at the time. For people today and then, the Oblesik demonstrates the ingenuity and good relations of the French people. It leaves me impressed and inspires me to take on projects that I know I am capable of regardless of what people have done before
