The Not Entirely Human-Human Exchange Student pt.6
Summary: Nobody knows how they'll act in an impossible situation, not even Cass. As she learns more about the brother's history, one thing becomes clear: the image Lucifer's presenting is nothing like the one being revealed. Warnings: Swearing, mentions of death and violence Spoilers: Through Lesson 6 and Lilith's status Characters: Cass (OC), Lucifer, Mammon, Levi, Satan, Asmo, Beel, Lilith, and Simeon. Notes: I just want to thank everyone for their reblogs, replies, and tags! This isn't my main blog, so I can't reply from this account but it brings me so much joy seeing and rereading them. Previous Part ⢠Next Part
She held the door slightly open, blocking Luke from Beelâs eyeline as he approached her. âHey, you know how weâve been having a super good time bunking together?â Â
âNot really?â Beel asked, tilting his head to the side. âHave we been having a super good time?â Â
âAnswer faster next time, damn,â Cass muttered. âI have an idea to make it twice as fun.â Â
Beelâs face lit up. âCheeseburgers?â Â
âYeah, I guess we could get some cheeseburgers?â Beel smiled, eyes glazing over as he started thinking about food. He walked forward blindly entering his room. âWait, Beel!â Â
Beel nearly ran Luke over in his hungry state. Luke screeched, darting out of the way at the last second. The sound was enough to knock some sense into Beel. His eyebrows knitted together as he tried to figure out why Luke was in his room. Â
âWahoo!â Cass fake cheered, but it did little to dispel the tension. âTwice as fun sleepover!â
The first thing Cass felt when she woke up that morning was safe. In his sleep, Beel had put his arm around her, pulling her closer. At 7â2, he easily dwarfed her. Being surrounded by so many people taller than her, she didnât think about it very often anymore. With just of the two of them, it was hard to ignore. Â
She slipped out of his embrace, not wanting to wake him. Part of her morning routine, when she was able to get enough sleep, was to spend time in the library reviewing course material. More times than not, Satan was already in there. Â
The first few days, heâd ignored her completely. Gradually, he started engaging more and would even bring his own materials to study. Despite her expectations, he was always happy to help answer her questions. Perhaps he was excited to share his knowledge just as Levi was when sharing his interests. Â
With his help, Cass had been advancing through the material at an incredible rate. She was almost able to keep up in classes with the others and even maintained an average grade comparable to Leviâs. After finding out Diavolo had requested she be graded more leniently, she demanded they hold her to the same standards. Even when he relented and expected a drop in her grades, her average continued to climb. Â
She stepped out of the library to stretch her legs. Hushed voices floated through the hall. Despite Luciferâs warning, Cass wasnât going to stop investigating the mysteries surrounding the brothers. She followed the voices, staying hidden when she was able to make out what they were saying. Â
âI havenât heard from him, Iâm worried.âÂ
âThe life of an exchange student is busy.âÂ
âWhy canât he come home? Iâll go in his place. He doesnât even want to be there.â Â
âIâm not having this conversation again. This exchange program is the first step of Diavoloâs goal for the three realms. I wonât let anyone stand in the way of that goal. Do you understand?â Â
His question was met with silence. The implication weighed heavy in the air. Lucifer would make sure that anyone who opposed Diavolo wouldnât survive. Something about that didnât sit right with Cass. Would he really take that stance if it meant taking it against his brothers?Â
âAnswer me this, who would choose to side with, Belphegor or me?â Â
Another question met with silence. Before Cass could think about it for too long, she felt a hand cover her mouth. Whoever had snuck up, pulled her away gently. Once they were in another room and the door was closed, Mammon let her go. Â
âDidnât want to get caught eavesdropping.â Mammon shrugged. âIâm not surprised that Beel couldnât manage to answer Lucifer.â Â
âWhat happened? Why is he so confident in Diavoloâs decision?â Â
âI donât entirely know. After we fell from grace, he changed. None of us know what happened, but he pledged loyalty to Lord Diavolo. Ever since, he puts Diavoloâs desires first, no matter what. Even if he doesnât agree with it.â Â
For pride itself to give up that much, Diavolo must have done something that would have been met with dissent it would have made it impossible for the brothers to be in the position they were now. Lucifer must have pledged loyalty as a deal. But the only thing Lucifer would do that for, was his family. Yet, making that deal could lead to him turning his back on them.Â
âBelphie wasnât a fan of the program from the beginning. He would have fought Diavolo every step of the way. Lucifer selected him as one of the exchange students without listening to anyone else. I tried to get him to reconsider or at least talk about it with Belphie. In the end, it didnât matter.â Â
As much as she wanted to ask him more, she knew there were likely only two people who could answer the questions she had. She doubted that Diavolo or Lucifer would be willing to do that though. Everything she learned here was like finding a new way out of the maze only to hit another dead end.Â
âWhy did you fall?â Â
âWe-â Â
âWhy did you fall?â Cass interrupted. Â
He looked startled, as if heâd never been asked that. âBecause Lucifer did. I planned on following him no matter what his decision was.â He paused, as if remembering that time. âI still would.â Â
---Â
âLilith, I know youâre here!â Cass stormed into the construction zone that was her former room. Â
After talking with Mammon, she decided to confront Lilith. She needed to know what the hell happened that led to the brotherâs falling. Sheâd convinced Lucifer she wasnât feeling well and needed to stay home. Since he had a council meeting, Levi had gone to classes, and she had the house to herself. Â
âComing in hot,â Lilith laughed as she appeared, sitting on a pile of debris. Â
âWhat lead to the Celestial war?â Â
Lilith froze, surprised by the question. Cass tossed the book about the Celestial War sheâd found in the library on the ground at her feet. All she could find was that the brothers rebelled and when they lost, they were banished. After falling, Diavolo accepted them as denizens of the Devildom. Â
âYouâre at the heart of it arenât you?â Lilith started to speak, but Cass continued. âI donât want to hear that you canât tell me. I know something you did started this.â Â
âI didnât know what would happen.â Her voice wavered as her head dropped, unable to look Cass in the eyes. âI never asked them to take my side. I, I just want them to be happy.â Â
Even as Lilith recounted the events that led to the war, Cass felt more confused than ever. The six brothers had been willing to give up everything they knew, everything they were for each other and Lilith. So, why was Belphie currently locked in a closet while they all harbored secrets. Â
âI donât know what happened between Lucifer and Diavolo. I donât remember anything after I was hit until I woke up in the human world.â Â
âKnowing what happened, would you do it again? Give the person you loved the fig from the Celestial Realm?âÂ
Lilith looked up, more tears threatening to fall. She didnât have to give Cass an answer, she already knew. âAm I a bad person?â Â
âNo.âÂ
âIâm the reason theyâre here. Iâm the reason Belphie is stuck up there and why -â Â
âNo, youâre not. You may have opened the door, but they walked through it, and your dad or God or whatever you call him, locked it behind them. There are consequences to every decision. If you choose to focus on the bad, you stop seeing the good. Iâm assuming there were some pretty good things that came from your choice, or you wouldnât make it again.â Â
Lilithâs expression softened and she gave Cass a slight smile. She remembered what Mammon had said right before she made a pact with Levi. Iâm so sick of people I care about blaming themselves when itâs not their fault. Â
âCass?â Cass turned to Lilith, not realizing she had zoned out. âI think you should be careful around Belphie. I canât really explain it, but he seems different down here. Not in the same way as the rest of them.â Â
âWhat do you mean?â Â
âWhen he was an angel, Belphie loved humans. Heâs the reason I started sneaking down to the Human Realm.â Â
âBut Beel and Mammon said he was against the exchange program. Why would he be against the idea if he-âÂ
Cassâs question was cut off by a door slamming and someone yelling her name. By the time she looked back at the pile Lilith had been perched on, the ghost was gone. Thankfully, sheâd taken the book Cass had brought with her when she vanished. Â
Cass rushed from the room, not sure how sheâd explain why she was hanging out in the rubble when she was supposed to be ill. She collided with Levi as she rounded the corner to the entry way. Were it not for the quick reflexes that demons seemed to have, she would have fallen. Â
âWoah, are you okay?â Â
âSorry, yeah, you scared me.â Levi let go once she found her footing. âWhat are you doing home?â Â
âLucifer made me come back to check that you were feeling alright.â Â
Despite the annoyed tone, Levi looked surprisingly peaceful. It was obvious Lucifer hadnât asked Levi to check on Cass because he was actually worried about how she felt. Lucifer had asked Levi because he knew heâd need a break from everyone at RAD by this point in the day. Yet another piece that didnât fit into the picture Lucifer presented.  Â
âIâm doing a lot better, thanks,â she lied. âWhen do you have to get back to class? Want to play a few rounds of Devil Kart before you go back?â Â
âI have time.â Levi lit up at the question. He grabbed her arm, pulling her along as he rushed to his room. She glanced back at the empty door hoping Lilith wouldn't shut back down and keep hiding secrets. Â
---Â
<< My Son: I need your help!! Â
<< My Son: Can you come outside? Â
<< My Son: Iâm already at the House of Lamentation. Â
Cass barely had time to breathe after Levi left before she started receiving texts from Luke. Was there any being in all three realms that didnât need her help? As soon as she opened the front doors, Luke ran in under her outstretched arm. He looked equal parts angry and unsettled as he frantically searched the room.   Â
âAre you okay?â Â
âYou have to let me stay here with you!â He grasped her arm with a surprising amount of strength. Â
âWoah, okay, did something happen?â Â
âI canât go back to Purgatory Hall right now. Please let me stay in your room.âÂ
âLuke, you know I would let you stay with me in a heartbeat, but I donât exactly have a room right now.âÂ
He gave her a skeptical look, so she showed him to the wreckage of Beelâs outburst. He examined the room, muttering complaints about demons under his breath. Cass leaned against the door frame, letting him process everything however he needed to. Â
âI can ask Lucifer if itâs okay if you sleep on the couch.â Luke let out a noise of disgust as he turned to her, appalled at the suggestion. âOr I can ask Beel if you can stay in his room too. Thatâs my current living situation.â Â
âTheyâre making you stay in a room with a demon? This whole exchange program is ridiculous. How can they bring a defenseless human here and make them live with demons? Obviously, youâre getting taken advantage of, I mean, two pacts?!â Â
âWell, I do have some agency,â Cass interjected. Â
Luke didnât seem to notice though. He continued ranting about the program and how much he hated demons. Without being too obvious, Cass started leading him towards Beelâs room. If he didnât want people to know he was here, standing in the middle of the hall wouldnât be the best plan. Â
The second her hand grabbed the doorknob, the front door slammed open. Luke yelped before pushing her into Beelâs room. Even on the second floor, she could hear when each of the brothers entered the house. Â
Beel was so hungry, the sound of his stomach growling activated Cassâs flight or fight response. As he usually was after a council meeting, Satan was aggravated. Cass had learned to tell how angry he was based on the strength of his steps. The quickened thumps were barely covered by Levi and Mammonâs arguing. Â
The two always fought more when Levi wasnât able to have enough time to recharge away from people. More often than not, their arguments were about Mammon owing Levi money. Though, Cass couldnât quite figure out why he still lent Mammon money all the time.Â
If Levi and Mammon werenât fighting, odds were that Asmo and Mammon were at each otherâs throats. There was something pure about the way they fought with Mammon. Something very human about it, unlike how Satan would fight with Lucifer at times. Â
Asmoâs voice faintly drifted from the entry as he mumbled to himself about needing to redo his nails. Once it was clear the brothers had gone their separate ways, the front door shut with a thud and a soft sigh that could only be Lucifer.Â
---Â Â
âItâs horrible. He never listens to me. I tried to warn him about always having tea with Lord Diavolo and he still goes over there. Worse yet, he said I should ask Barbatos to help with my baking. As if I would ever do that. The idea of even speaking to a demon face to face is repulsive.â Â
Cass glanced at Beel at the comment. Not that he usually let things get to him, but he did look somewhat dejected at the word. âLuke.â Lukeâs head jerked in her direction, as if heâd forgotten they were in the room. âYouâre being cruel. I respect that youâre allowed to have your own opinions and beliefs, but I donât have to respect what those are or let you say them.â Â
âI -â he opened and closed his mouth a few times before letting his head fall. Â
âIâm not saying that to make you feel bad, but I just want you to think about it for a second. How would you feel if someone said those things about angels while you were standing right in front of them.â Â
Luke glanced at Beel nervously but didnât speak. knelt on the ground to address him at eye level. âI know you may not like Simeon befriending demons, but thatâs his choice to make. You have to let him make it, just like he lets you choose how your relationship with demons is. He only suggested you talk to Barbatos. He didnât force you to or try to guilt you into meeting with him.â Â
Luke stayed silent for a moment longer, taking in Cassâs words. âYouâre right. Iâm sorry, Beelzebub.â Â
âOh, um, thatâs alright. If you still want to, you can stay in my room with Cass.â Beel pulled something from the side table next to him and handed it to look. Luke gave it a caution look, glancing at Beel and then Cass. âItâs not weird or anything, itâs just Hibiscus Pomegranate juice. Sweets calm me down when Iâm upset sometimes.â Â
âWhy are you being so nice to me?â Â
Beelâs face grew somber as he answered Luke with a sincerity that made Cass nervous. âYou once gave me cake.âÂ
Cass blinked. Did he just say Luke gave him cake? She knew he was always pretty serious when it came to food, but this seemed over the top. He had said it like Luke asked him to swear on his life. Lukeâs shocked expression matched her own. Â
âWhat?â Â
âYou gave me a cake once and this is how I can say thank you.â Â
âYouâre right Luke, I donât think staying in a room with a demon as devious and ghastly as Beel is safe.â Luke scrunched up his face, trying not to say something rude again. âWait, why canât you stay at Purgatory Hall anyways? Itâs not like Simeon would kick you out for not visiting the castle with him?â Â
âBecause he doesnât care at all! I could disappear and he wouldnât bat an eye.â Â
âOh, I get it. Youâre jealous, arenât you?â Beel asked, head tiling to the side as he assessed Luke. Â
âWhat, I, OF COURSE NOT,â Luke snapped, his face burning red with embarrassment. âIâm worried about him being corrupted. What would Michael think? When he refused to listen, I told him our friendship was over and strode right out of the dorm. I canât just go crawling back.â Â
After Luke calmed down enough, he thanked Beel for letting him stay. Beel and Cass had to remind him several times to keep it down as Beel hadnât checked with Lucifer that it was okay. Were it her room, Cass wouldnât have cared if Lucifer knew or not, but Beel was adamant they had to keep it between them. Â
Keeping him hidden that night wasnât difficult, especially because Lilith was able to give her a heads up if Lucifer was leaving his study. Bringing him dinner wasnât too much harder. The challenge for that was making sure Beel didnât eat everything on the walk from the kitchen or before Luke had anything. Â
The next morning, Luke still wasnât ready to be around anyone, so Cass let him know sheâd cover for him and promised to come back as soon as possible when classes let out. Fortunately, she was able to leave early as Diavolo had cancelled a meeting for the exchange students due to Lukeâs absence. Â
After reminding Luke that he couldnât just wander the halls, regardless of if the brothers were at class or not, she gave him some snacks sheâd bought on the way back. Despite his grumbling about being bored, he didnât seem to mind staying and watching a movie with Cass. Â
It was late when Beel returned. He barged into the room right as Luke finally fell asleep. Heâd been nodding off for the last twenty minutes, head falling and snapping back up as he forced himself to stay awake. Lucky for them, he was drowsy enough that he didnât audibly react to Beelâs entrance. Â
âYou have to hide. Luciferâs doing a surprise inspection.âÂ
âA what?â Luke and Cass asked at the same time. Â
âYou know, when Lucifer checks our rooms?â Beel looked at Cass, equally confused by her reaction. Â
âNo, I donât know what youâre talking about. Arenât you like thousands of years old? Why do you have room checks?â Â
âWe didnât used to but then everyone kept causing trouble, so now Lucifer does random checks.â Luke, who had been searching for a hiding spot started crawling under the bed. âNo, thatâs too obvious. Once he found a witch disguised as a spider in Asmoâs room.â Â
âWell, whereâs not obvious?â Â
Before Beel had time to answer, there were two knocks on the door. He opened the closet door and shoved Luke inside. The door latched the same moment Lucifer entered. Cass took a sip of her tea, trying to act natural. Â
âEvening, Lucifer, to what do we owe the pleasure?â Â
âIâm just here to do a room check.â Â
âSeems like a bit of an invasion of privacy, but itâs your home.â Â
Luciferâs gaze didnât waver, not that it mattered. Cass had become accustomed to the icy stare and was hardly phased by it. She turned her attention to the movie that was still playing, hoping to convince him that things were normal, but she never knew. She still couldnât read him. Â
âCare to share why everyone seems to believe youâre hiding a dog in your room, Beel?â Beel shook his head, not trusting himself to speak. âCass?â Â
Cass pretended to think about it, eyes not leaving the screen. âI mean, it could be so many reasons. First thing that comes to mind, theyâre jealous of my funky fresh dance moves.â Even without seeing his face, she could tell he was getting angrier. Â
âOpen your closet door, Beel.â Â
âItâs just dirty laundry, it probably ââÂ
âIt wasnât a request.â Â
Beel nodded, opening the door. She was certain he wasnât doing it on purpose, but it really felt like he was opening the door as slowly as possible, as if to create more tension, something the room definitely did not need. Lucifer inspected the shockingly Luke-less closet before narrowing his eyes. Â
âTold you,â Cass released the breath sheâd holding. âBut I donât blame you. Itâs hard to believe how good I am until you see it for yourself.â Â
Lucifer rolled his eyes before leaving without a word. Beel and Cass stared at each other in shock before approaching the closet. Beel moved some things around, but it was clear that Luke was no longer in there. Â
âWhat the fuck?â Cass slipped into the closet check for a secret door or something that could explain his disappearance. Â
âI donât know. Wait, let me try something.â Cass turned around in time to see the door shut. She stood in the dark closet in disbelief. âCass? Are you still there?â Beelâs voice was barely above a whisper. Fucking demons.Â
âNo, Beel, Iâm back in the human realm.â He opened the door with a discouraged face. âSorry, it wasnât that bad of an idea. Itâs just, how did we lose an angel?â Â
---Â Â
Cass flew down the stairs into the entry way as Beel came in from the living room. Theyâd been searching for Luke, and trying not to alert Lucifer to their search, for the last four hours. They had searched every room multiple times and nothing. Â
âIs there somewhere else he could go?â Cass whispered. âA creepy basement? Dungeon? A gazebo?â Â
âNo! Weâve searched every room.â Â
âOkay, okay, this is fine. This is fine. I mean, thereâs a lot of angels, right?â Beel nodded. âThey probably wouldnât even notice Luke was gone, right?â Beel shook his head. âMaybe we can give them Alana.â Â
Cass sighed and started pacing as Beel talked to himself about what could have happened. Her messages werenât going through, and calls werenât connecting, so Luke hadnât gone back to Purgatory Hall or anywhere else with service. Not to mention, she knew Luke wouldnât have disappeared without a word. Â
âWait a minute,â Cass whispered and, without explaining, started running towards the parlor. Â
Why hadnât she thought of it sooner? There was a scale model of the House of Lamentation in that room. Sheâd asked Lucifer about it when she first arrived. Apparently, it had been created as a dollhouse for the daughter of the family who originally lived in the house. If there was some room they hadnât checked, itâd have to be there. Â
Cass skidded to a stop in front of the model, scanning over it as she tried to find a room or clue to Lukeâs disappearance. There it was. A room sheâd never seen before. It made sense where it was, right across from the attic currently holding Belphegor. Â
From the first time she followed his voice, she couldnât figure out why there was nothing at the end of that hall. Turns out, it was because there was a hidden room. Well, two hidden rooms if she counted the now converted attic. Â
Without telling Beel why she was running around, she grabbed his arm and pulled him with her to the missing room. Supposedly, it was across from the attic. There wasnât anything there though, no bookshelf, portrait, or fake wall. Â
There were slight differences in the wallpaper markings halfway up the wall. They were faint, the color difference between the markings and the rest of the wallpaper marginal at best. It was a quote in a foreign language. She mumbled the words under her breath, no idea what language she was reading. Â
âWhen the sun of morning graced the heavens, his light shone down upon this one, the eighth of the eight?â Â
âCass, how can you read that?â Â
âWhat?â Cass looked at Beel, his face unreadable. Â
âThatâs written in the language of angels.â Â
Cass didnât answer, unsure how she could read it. She hadnât even known what it was. âI have no idea. I mean, I donât know if it actually says that.â Â
âWell, itâs not a perfect translation. Itâs Morning Star, not sun of morning. Thatâs another name for Lucifer and eighth of the eight is ââ Â
âLilith.â They said her name at the same time. Beelâs eyes widened in surprise, not from the result of answering the riddle, but at Cassâs answer. He stared at her in wonder as a door materialized before them. Pushing it open, she said a silent prayer to whoever was listening that Luke was thereÂ
âThis is,â Beel fell silent when they walked in.  Â
While Luke was nowhere to be seen, Cass felt pulled into the room. Three large windows took up the entirety of the far wall. For the first time in her memory, she was seeing sunlight. Cass held her hand up, letting out a shaky laugh. It was so warm. Sheâd forgotten what sunlight was like. Heaven. Â
âThis is Lilithâs room from the Celestial Realm. I donât know how itâs here, but I know this is hers.â Â
Beel didnât continue, his eyes glossing over as he took in his surroundings. This was the first time he was seeing anything of his sisterâs since she died. The look on his face was the same one Lilith wore when sheâd told Cass about falling. Â
âI didnât save her. I watched her wing get pierced by an arrow. I watched her fall to her death. I didnât save her.â Â
âBeel?â Her heart broke at the regret, the sorrow, the sheer hopelessness of his voice. Â
âI couldnât save them both. They aimed at Belphie and Lilith at the same time. I could only get to one of them. Belphieâs eyes met mine and I shielded him from the attack without a second thought. I didnât save her. I couldnât save her!Â
âEveryone always says that I did nothing wrong, that I couldnât help it. But, none of them were there. They didnât see her. I did. Iâll never forget the look of despair when she fell. Belphie wonât ever say it, but I think he blames me for choosing him. He wanted me to save her, and I didnât.â Â
Cass wouldnât have spoken if she had wanted to, knowing nothing she said mattered at the moment. Once again, the words Mammon had whispered came to mind. Iâm so sick of people I care about blaming themselves when itâs not their fault.Â
âWhat would you have done?â Beel asked. âWho would you have saved?â Â
âI donât know. I canât even pretend to imagine what you went through. I canât know how I would react. Iâm so, so sorry that you do know,â she paused, debating to add the last part that had come to her mind. âAnd Iâm sorry that you have to carry that knowledge with you.â Â
Lilith had asked her to save them, but the closer she got to the brothers, the less possible it seemed. Yet, the closer she got, the more she wanted to do just that. How do you help someone when you donât even know how theyâre hurt? Â
Her phone rang before either of them said another word. She had several texts from Mammon telling her to get to the underground tomb as soon as possible. Underground tomb? Why hadnât Beel mentioned that when she asked if there was anywhere else to look? Had he looked there? Â
She put the call on speaker. âMammon?â Â
âAbout time ya answered! Lukeâs down here and I think Lucifer might try killinâ him.â Â
---Â
Cass and Beel burst through the door to the tomb, rushing to Lukeâs side. Lucifer towered over his shaking form. He was backed against one of the stone pillars, clutching an old leather book. The same black wings that had once brought her safety and comfort were striking fear in the angel.  Â
âDo you have any idea what it is youâre holding?â The question came out like venom.Â
âNo-o. I, it, it was on that coffin and,â Lukeâs voice trembled as he pointed at a stone coffin. A stone sculpture of roses with a place to place the book sat on the lid. Â
âItâs a grimoire,â Beel explained as Mammon tried calming Lucifer down. âYou can use them to control a demon even without a pact.â Â
âIs it one of ours?â Levi asked. âI didnât even know Lucifer kept them down here.â Â
âI didnât know what it was!â Luke yelled. âI donât even know how I got here. I was in Beelâs room and suddââ Â
The dark aura Cass felt when sheâd first arrived grew. It was overtaking the entire tomb now. âBEELZEBUB?â Luciferâs voice sounded more like a growl at that point. âIs it true you allowed this angel access to the House of Lamentation. This angel who plotted to steal that grimoire?â Â
As seemed to be the norm, Cass moved without thinking. No one even processed that she was moving in time to try and stop her from nearing Lucifer. She stopped, putting herself in his path to Luke. As she stood before Lucifer, on the brink of transforming completely, she wondered if this was how a young Nestor or David felt as they faced their giants.  Â
âThis is between Beelzebub, Luke, and me. Step aside if you donât want to die, human.â  Â
âNo.â Â
Cass didnât break eye contact. The air around Lucifer was turning darker, threatening to encircle her, then, it vanished. It was as if a wall had been put between them. Except this time, she knew what it was. The same content feeling sheâd gotten in Lilithâs room when seeing the light. Â
Thatâs when Cass realized the reason the brothers seemed worse when they werenât at the House of Lamentation. It was Lilith. She was bound to the house and couldnât help when Cass was away. From her first day, Lilith had been protecting her. She was Cassâs divine aid. Â Â Â
âHow insolent can you be? Are you really willing to risk your life to defend a demon and an angel?â Cass didnât falter. âThen choose one.â Â

(lesson 44 spoilers)
i was really expecting (or maybe just hoping) there to be more drama at babel but ?? turns out it was another build up to "lucifer really loves his brothers"? it would've been nice to at least get some blood out of the rock that is development for the newbie trio, but raphael was more of a cameo than anything
i'm not entirely sure what the moment of mc going "whoops i'm about to fall off this tall thing" was meant to be. maybe they needed to fill a quota of romantic interactions? it does look like they were just being clumsy but for a moment i was like "Oohoho what if babel is trying to get rid of them because of some kind of celestial realm conspiracy"
i do still think they should be resolving the time travel and nightbringer thing (solomon?? did you forget??? do you not want to know what the hell happened????), but i'd be interested if the whole thing with simeon and the weird relapse to the celestial realm WAS some kind of heavenly conspiracy..
from a surface level look at what's happened so far... feels like they're taking a weird hard turn from everything they'd done with the celestial realm prior to nb. belphie's moment of bliss being everyone as angels was ?????? honestly it felt like we were just in nightbringer timeline again
my good-faith theory is that this is all intentional and that this IS leading up to some kind of twist about what happened when solomon and mc travelled to the present because otherwise i'm going to have to assume the writers just forgot what the original brothers' deal was
#nightbringer spoilers#also i know the brothers are the main characters but it's been 6 seasons#i really don't think it'd be a big deal for them to dedicate some lessons to the side characters#diavolo had the briefest run in nb s1 and while it wasn't quite given the time and weight it deserved#i was interested!! it was cool for diavolo to admit to something selfish#and then without like any discussion it just got turned around to 'you're all my best friends' and 'yayyyy we're all friends'#hopefully we're building up to something with simeon and barbatos at least??#obey me#obey me nightbringer#complaining corner

Why is Raphael now coming to the Devildom?
A theory on the reason why Raphael is just now coming to the Devildom and what it could mean.
Me and @melody-ruskin were talking about how much we wanted to punch Michael what else is new? and we ended talking about Raphael.
OBEY ME NIGHTBRINGER LESSON 16 SPOILERS AHEAD
In case you arenât caught up to lesson 16 hereâs the only thing you need to know. Raphael is coming to visit the Devildom.
And oddly enough Simeon and Luke, seem just as unaware as everyone else. Why else would Lucifer ask them to stay and listen to what he had to say?
Itâs especially odd that heâs coming now because Simeon and Luke have been in the Devildom for quite a bit now, over half the season. Luke and Simeon are visiting to see the ceremony for the founding of RAD and to represent the Celestial Realm, but why would Raphael be visiting? Surely two angels are enough to represent the Celestial Realm.
Hereâs where the theorizing starts!
Raphael is a stickler for rules and angel morality and is not afraid of enforcing it. Heâs been seen chasing the brothers around with a spear for minor offenses in Devilgrams in the OG app.
Heâs also incredibly loyal to Michael, choosing to stay with him instead of following Lucifer. Given how close the two were thatâs a big deal.
Why go through the bother of sending another angel when heâs got two angels already in the Devildom? Luke himself idolizes Michael, surely heâd be more than willing to share information with him?
Hereâs the thing, both Luke and Simeon have spent time in the Devildom and have gotten closer to the brothers. But more importantly theyâve gotten close to the two humans residing there.
I think Raphael is being sent by Michael to spy on Solomon and MC.
Raphaelâs introduction video
The biggest reveal here is that Raphael is a hit man.
Unfortunately, this character aspect seems to have been dropped as there is no mention of it outside of his introduction. So I donât think heâs being sent to kill someone. unfortunately
I do think heâs being sent as an extra pair of eyes. A hit man would be an expert in espionage after all.
Michael makes it very clear in Lesson 13 that he does not like what MC is getting up to, outright threatening them. And promised if they were to go further in their plans theyâd make an enemy of the Celestial Realm. And while incredibly odd that this supposed âpastâ version of Michael knows exactly who we are and our connection to the brothers, weâre not here to talk about that.
Obviously Michael would wanna keep track of the two humans he thinks are siding with a very powerful demon. Heck he may even be wanting to keep an eye on Simeon, who has never been keen on following rules and is/was incredibly close with Lucifer.
So donât be surprised if Raphael asks to live in Coctyus Hall.
Loud booing in the background from the Solomon stans
I nod sadly

I've just noticed this now, is this room supposed to be MC's? Because it looks similar, but at the same time it doesn't...?
You see, there's a wall in between the area with the table, and the tree is...gone? There's also the table with the tea cups close to the bed, and red curtains in the top corner ( things that aren't in our room ). The bed, the rug, and the walls seem similar enough though, and the big table in the back too.
I don't think there's any other place in the house of lamentation that looks any similar to that one either. So I beg the question, is this just a different version of MC's room? Does anyone know at all? Help, I'm so confused.

Spoiler Warning
For Lesson 6+ of Nightbringer
When I started the game and used the wanderer's whereabout app, I truthfully got emotional. I didn't want to be in Cocytus Hall. I wanted to be back in my own room.
Its the only piece in devildom Mc has that's their own space. Aka my space. Sure privacy isn't well much a thing but it's familiar and comforting. Now I get it this is a past timeline and no one remembers you because of it. (Except Solomon...ofc đ). But I wasn't mentally prepared for that much separation.
However I come across I believe a bonus lesson in lesson 6 (might be 7), this dialogue between the angels and the twins. And fuck it hurt me and makes soooo much fuckin sense why everyone is in that room especially those who well don't have much reason to (meaning they don't live there).
They have no memories because it doesn't exist yet but fuuuuuck I damn cried at this revelation why they pop up in wanderer's whereabouts in the guest room of all places.
I'm even crying now!!!! Thinking about all this even separated through time just the lingering feeling can't stop it. Now I can't say if it's because of our wildly op powers or there's a shake up in the timeline. Or idk something. But this...makes me so damn happy!!!

From the time she was first enrolled into the exchange student program to now, Jane has certainly changed, and she has the scars, ring, pact marks, and a magic tattoo to prove it.

So just finished Lesson 17.... I'm sort of indifferent to the story but maybe now we're actually getting plot?
Kinda obsessed with Raphael and the cliffhanger left off makes me think we're getting content but we'll see. They might throw filler at us again this started strong but I'm getting unethused as it goes on (still gonna play it but the interest is dying are we going to address Nightbringer or drag it out for 3 Seasons so we NEVER go back to the future?)
Also I do feel bad for Solomon because I don't mean to neglect you Babes plot and my job as an attendant is forcing me back into the Stockholm Syndrome with them again I swear LOL (಼ ÍĘ಼)
#obey me#obey me nightbringer#obey me nightbringer lesson 17#I mean its something. Not gonna lie tho Lucifer and Beel moment was sweet#Also glad the game let us call Solomon out I like agree with his view that demons don't play fair but like its still dirty to play like that#And like he tried it with Lucifer too like not okay. I get that demons cheat but don't stoop to their level#Argh thats just me though MC has been VERY coddled/had it easy if we think about it.#This is sort of how like the game mechanics has the demons/immortals addressing us it makes me think returning to the past isnt a thing.#Also loved the Satan moments- Satan is really shining as a favorite its strange cause like the other 6 i can do without.#Theyre just sort of fading in the background if we're honest like they had their moments but I don't care about them like I used to#Present/Future 7 Brothers > Past Brothers#Though like that i'm not gettung killed by one of them maybe itll happen soon people love to blame MC for their problems#Blame them for their problems while also simp for MC.#obey me musing#Kind of hoping this Season ends with us in the future but i know thats not gonna happen.#I just dont think us returning to the future is an option we literally havent even gotten their pacts back when in S1 MC was doing it fast

You literally can though? Like, the whole premise of this game is that weâve traveled back in time? And when Solomon was explaining why mc canât just go back home he kind of implied that he can just pop back and forth whenever he wants.

My dear friends! I finally have the answer as to why the House of Lamentation's interior design is so questionable!
