Judo is a game of chess. It favors skill over sheer power, technique over size or force. 

Hinata’s fighting, desperate for a throw. Trying to get Tobio down with strength alone. His foot wraps desperately to no avail. He’s not close enough. Tobio lets him push. Lets him get out his frustration and anger. 

And in one calculated, swift move, he shifts. Using that momentum, sliding out of the way, leaving his foot right in Hinata’s path. And down he goes. 

“Shit—” Hinata hisses as he goes down, tumbling over himself and landing in a clumsy backfall before jumping to his feet. “Again!” He shouts, foregoing the slap-bump and charging straight at Tobio with a rough grip. 

For all his lack of technique, the guy is strong. If Tobio were any smaller, Hinata’s throws might be working. But with his height, Hinata really needs to learn some throws other than o soto gari. He’s getting too predictable. And there’s nothing worse than your own throw getting used against you. 

“Hinata! Go for a hip throw, stop trying to sweep!” Sendei Ukai shouts, clearly frustrated with his student. With good reason. Judo is a sport of skill. And while Tobio has been honing his for years, Hinata still can’t seem to grasp the idea. His boundless energy and strength are useful elsewhere—sparring, self-defense, maybe even Jiu Jitsu, if utilized properly. But not here. Not in this uniform, in this belt, on this mat. He needs to learn a lesson. 

Hinata steps in to a messy O Goshi, barely getting low enough to even get his arm around Tobio’s waist. He’s being sloppy. He’s desperate. Tobio sinks down, sliding quickly until his foot is in between Hinata’s, snaking his arm in front. And he spreads his wings. 

The timer beeps loudly, pulling him right out of his stupor. Class is over. Hinata is lying on the floor, hands covering his face. Tobio knows he’s not hurt—when he’s hurt, he jumps up right away and gives a fake smile and tries to keep going until Sensei sits him out. When he stays down, face red and body tense, it’s because he’s frustrated. 

Tobio sighs, kneeling next to him. Everyone else is beginning to give high fives and bows and running up to the front of the room to line up. Sensei is staring at the pair with one eyebrow raised. Tobio raises a single finger, and Sensei nods in that ever-understanding way of his.

WK Abu Dhabi (day-4): Gaby alsnog naar de Olympische Spelen !!

Gaby Willems (°97; JC Andrimont; 31° WRL): 5° (4 own) Dit had ik zelf écht niet zien aankomen. Enkele dagen geleden schreef ik nog op mijn blog dat ik dacht dat Gaby er momenteel mentaal niet geheel klaar voor was (omwille van de recentste tegenvallende competities op EK en GSLs (Dushanbe en Astana)), maar kijk, een 1ste kamp, gevolgd door nog 3 dikke overwinningen (tegen resp. Scoccimarro, Polleres & Taimazova) en Gaby gaat toch naar de Spelen !! PROFICIAT, en héél blij voor haar.

- 1/32-fin: opent tegen Yu-Jung Liao (°99; Tpe; 50° WRL), wat een zeer haalbare kaart lijkt. En toch, na 11"sec had het WK al over kunnen zijn als de scheids niet waza-ari maar ippon had gegeven voor de uchi-mata van Liao !! Zeker weten dat de tafel dit niet had overruled ! Gelukkig herstelt Gaby snel het evenwicht na 37"sec met ko-soto-gari, en gaat ze door met waar ze goed in is: grondwerk. Gaby heeft een patent als het ware op juji-gatame... ;-) - 1/16-fin: als gezegd, tegen Giovanna Scoccimarro (°97; Ger; 17° WRL), de verrassende vice-wereldkampioene van vorig jaar, waartegen Gaby nog nooit won; en jawel, een bijna gelijkaardige afwikkeling: transitie naar grond, knap ne-waza, en Gaby die het kan afronden met... juji-gatame ! Gaby werd er zelfs even emotioneel van. - 1/8-fin: tegen vice-Olympisch kampioene Michaela Polleres (°97; Aut; 4° WRL). 6 nederlagen op rij voor Gaby in de onderlinge duels ! recentelijk nog (2 weken geleden) in GSL Dushanbe (Tjk). Zat de lange wachttijd en het veranderen van mat er voor iets tussen (-> link ;-), feit is dat Gaby kon winnen deze keer ! Het klassieke de-ashi/ko-soto stoorwerk van Gaby, het bestoken met haar rechtervoet van de linkervoet van Michaela rendeert plots na 1'42"min: Michaela uit evenwicht, en wanneer Gaby haar daarmee verder naar grond kan sturen levert dat waza-ari op. Geen juji deze maal maar maté, en de wedstrijd gaat verder. Polleres op zoek naar de geschikte tegenaanval (uchi-mata o.a.), maar Gaby verdedigt goed, én zonder overdreven defensive posture, waardoor ze in de laatste 2'min maar 1 shido incasseert. Geen enkele uitgesproken kans voor de Oostenrijkse, en Gaby dan ook terecht verder naar de begeerde 1/4-fin. Begeerd, omdat winst in de 1/8-fin haar een ticket voor de Olympische Spelen oplevert !! Dit is de huidige situatie: Mina had met 2.381p de 'continentale quota'-positie voor België; Gaby zelf stond op 487p van Mina, maar een 1/4-fin levert Gaby de volle 520p op, waardoor ze Mina passeert en nu zelf de 'continentale quota' overneemt. - 1/4-fin: tegen Madina Taimazova (°99; Rus; 11° WRL). Een maand geleden won Gaby ertegen op de EK in Zagreb (het staat 2-1 voor de Andrimontse). O-uchi van Taimazova maar naar grond gedwongen door Gaby, die er dit maal wel niet mee kan dreigen. Na 1'10"min echter een geweldige counter van Gaby op een uchi-mata van de Russin en ippon ! Knap ! -> link. Opnieuw emotie in het gelaat van Gaby, maar je zou voor minder natuurlijk: deze overwinning levert Gaby 720p op, waardoor ze zich zelfs rechtstreeks plaatst voor de Spelen ! En, niet onbelangrijk, Mina die opnieuw de 'continentale quota'-plaats overneemt ! - 1/2-fin: tegen Marie-Eve Gahié (°96; Fra; 10° WRL). Gaby wordt overpowered door de Française, net als alle andere eerdere tegenstanders van Marie-Eve, met o-soto als haar gevaarlijkste wapen. - bronze: voor brons tegen Shiho Tanaka (°98; Jpn; 14° WRL); veel van de Japanse judoka's krijgen tijdens hun carrière maar een beperkt aantal internationale kansen, en al zeker als je 'faalt' tijdens enkele selecties (al lijkt mij bij hen het 'hoe' en 'waarom' toch minstens even belangrijk); in totaal 6 GSL medailles voor Tanaka, waarvan 2 in 2023 (1° Ulaanbaatar & 2° Tokyo), maar soms viel ze ook vroeg uit, bvb. op de Masters'23 en GSL Paris'24. Hier zal ze wél brons pakken en ten nadele van Gaby dus, na eerder een marathon-wedstrijd van 9'14"min te winnen op shido (s2-s3) tegen Ai Tsunoda (°02; Esp; 8° WRL; 3-voudig wereldkampioene /-70kg bij de jeugd) en na in 1/4-fin met shido (s3-s2) te verliezen na 6'49"min tegen de latere wereldkampioene Margaux Pinot. (zie verder). Toegegeven, tegen Gaby ging het een stuk makkelijker (-> video) : uchi-mata (w-a) al na 35"sec, en wanneer Gaby in de laatste minuut nadrukkelijker op zoek gaat naar een score (meer bepaald met sumi-gaeshi) valt ze uiteindelijk in een houdgreep van Tanaka. Willems naast het podium dus (net als haar vriend Christian Parlati trouwens in de /-90kg), maar who cares, ze plaatste zich hier dus definitief voor de Spelen in Paris.

Het goud in de /-70kg werd dus beslist in een Frans duel tussen Margaux Pinot en Marie-Eve Gahié, en tot mijn verbazing (tot op heden stond het onderling 4-0 voor Marie-Eve) won de weliswaar steeds onderschatte Pinot. (-> video). Margaux staat nu 8° WRL, Gahié 7°, maar dat doet er niet toe want dat Gahié dit maal Frankrijk zou verdedigen op de OG was (gelukkig) al een uitgemaakte zaak vóór dit WK. Remember: Pinot ging in extremis naar de OG Tokyo ten nadele van Gahié, maar ontgoochelde met een verlies in haar 1ste kamp tegen Elisavet Teltsidou (7° daar voor Griekenland). -> IJF-artikel over Pinot.

Waltorious Maximus Lambeth (1950-2014)

I remember the first time I met Walt. He invited me out to train at his Dojo, firing out the same invite that he gave to QBone some time before, concluding the email with "Things start at 1pm around on sundays. If you get lost: p/c to Osaekomi/Mr. Lamb (313) xxx-yyyy."  I walked into an old barn, with a stout looking Judoka talking someone through a kata garuma as classic rock played on the boom box in the corner.  He welcomed me in, a long haired lanky mofo in wrestling shoes and a Champion shirt like I belonged there, and then promptly fed me to the wolves.

That was the first of many lessons from Walt: how to get through that gut check, take a pounding from the aces and still present some game against the droogs and come back for more.

Walt stood as the head of Metro when I was there, not taking as a direct hand in instruction as Q did, but he still took time to tighten up my classical judo: how to drop right underneath to hit the drop seoi properly, how to switch out into combination to o-soto and how to do the belt-pin from north south. He also gave me tons of tips on how take my wrestling and further combine it with judo, since he had done much the same with Q.

He showed me the roughneck side of judo too: how to growl in your opponent's ear while trying to turn someone over for a pin and then pretend that mate was called and hit the collar choke when they peek up at the ref.  He also taught me how to pop the head up under the chin when chasing a single leg, or how to drive the side of your head into someone's nose when attacking with a kouchi or ouchi-gari.

He also taught me that "Mutual Welfare and Benefit" sometimes meant a cooler full of Heineken after hours of hard randori and shooting some bull over some brews.

Finally, he also taught me to put away the childish boy-band that was The Beatles and learn that there was a Rolling Stones before Mick met Bowie, and it was loud, shaking, gritty and roughneck... just like Walt.  While many of us were from a generation far after him, he still enjoyed rocking out to the rock bands we listened to like Buckcherry.  He drank up life and stoked the fire beneath his crew of champions he had gathered.

Besides being a teacher, Walt had his humorous side.  His sense of humor was infectious and oversized, like his generosity.  So many times, I'd get some sort of off-color joke sent to me in email, some bit of cheesecake or inappropriate anecdote sent to my email, I had to make sure I didn't open his emails at work. Otherwise, while my boss was looking over my shoulder, there'd be some huge breasted amazon on my screen.  His jokes and made up stories about "little itchy" always had me smirking.

In many ways, Walt was a viking skald, a story teller of great skill and deftness. His countless stories of growing up doing judo and putting the lumps on a bully turned presidential candidate, high school as a greaser and trouble-maker, his college years as Big Ten judo champion in 1972 and getting in brawls with his roommates, all told in his boisterous, jovial manner.  I looked forward to his emails regaling us on some wild exploit or crazy situation he found himself waist deep in, in the crazy adventure that was his life.

While Walt was loud and rough edged, he was also incredibly kind, open and generous.  Metro wasn't exactly a self sustaining money generating endeavor.  We all did our parts to pay into the club what we could and donate gear to keep the team equipped, but it was Walt who was keeping the thing rolling, getting us the mat space, organizing travel even getting sponsors for the Droogs roll out to Grappler's Quest, something that made the 'Metro Fight Club' name legendary outside of Michigan.  He also welcomed all comers.  I remember early on, when I brought my partner in crime Ick with me, he greeted him by picking him up in a fireman's carry and doing squats with him.   While I was struggling through university, he helped me score an Adidas gi so I could compete in the Great Lakes and when one of my friends accidentally ended up with a gi bottom that he borrowed, Walt just told him to keep it.  Anytime anyone needed just a little push or some help, Walt was there to keep things moving.

Waltorious Maximus Lambeth, you were a giant among men and you will be forever remembered for your kindness, humor and knowledge. With your helmsman ship, your droogs became feared and respected far and wide, all while making us feel like we were part of the best rock band ever.  I am honored to even have met you, let alone be called one of the droogs and deemed worthy of rank.

You are terribly missed, droog.

Suma Dorados sexto triunfo consecutivo

El campeón de LBE venció a domicilio a Indios de Ciudad Juárez

Ciudad Juárez, Chih.- Jose Estrada comandó a Dorados de Chihuahua con 27 puntos, en el triunfo 89-72 sobre Indios de Ciudad Juárez en el Gimnasio Municipal Josué Neri Santos, en lo que fue la sexta victoria al hilo por parte de los capitalinos en la Liga LBE Mexbet 2023.

La escuadra chihuahuense lució en defensa, limitando a la tribu a sólo el 37.3 % de porcentaje de campo, mientras que los dirigidos por el español Pablo García concretaron más del 50 % de sus disparos.

Dorados (6-0) llegó a 12 puntos para mantener el liderato, a su vez, Indios (2-3) cayó por segunda ocasión en la campaña ante el vigente campeón.

A pesar de un inicio de 13-7 en los minutos de apertura, el equipo de Helman Torres fue cediendo terreno, ante los triples de Kohl Meyer y Julian Washburn.

Sería de nueva cuenta el aporte del base armador mexicano Meyer, aunado al acierto de Jose Estrada para enviar al frente a Dorados por 24-23 al finalizar el primer cuarto.

El segundo periodo comenzó con el parcial 8-2 en favor de la visita, derivado de los aciertos de Israel Gutiérrez y un inspirado Estrada quien registró 14 unidades en la primera parte.

Chihuahua aprovechó también el disparo de larga distancia concretando siete triples, en cambio, Indios de Ciudad Juárez sólo marcó uno en 13 intentos. Dorados adquirió el liderato por 51-36 en 24 minutos del duelo.

Tras el descanso,  ambas quintetas mostraron bajo porcentaje durante el tercer cuarto, mientras un aguerrido Marco Ramos luchando en la pintura aportó para los campeones que a pesar de marcar 16 tantos en el periodo, también limitaron en la misma cantidad a los fronterizos para pizarra de 67-52.

En los minutos finales, Indios apretó colocándose a 10 unidades, por lo que de las manos de Jose Estrada y Julian Washburn los capitalinos volvieron a extender la ventaja con 5:07 minutos por disputar.

Los 10 puntos sin respuesta por parte de Dorados situaron el partido fuera del alcance para la tribu que no dejó de pelear en su propio territorio con los aciertos de Daniel Soto y Julián Torrez en la parte final del cotejo.

Chihuahua colocó el cerrojo con seis tantos de Jose Estrada en una nueva victoria de los capitalinos sobre Juárez por marcador final de 89-72.

Dorados vio cortada una racha de cuatro encuentros con 100 o más puntos, aunque permitió la segunda menor cantidad de unidades en contra en lo que va de campaña.

Jose Estrada terminó como el jugador del partido al marcar 27 tantos, con 4 rebotes y 4 asistencias. Gary Ricks registró 11 unidades, Marco Ramos aportó 10. Israel Gutiérrez y Alejandro Villanueva con 8 dianas cada uno, 6 por parte de Julian Washburn, mientras que Kohl Meyer, Dwayne Jordan y Ricardo “Kalo” Valdez terminaron con 5 puntos.

Por Indios de Ciudad Juárez, el ex Dorado, Daniel Soto, totalizó 21 unidades. Tommy Nuno logró 13 en ataque, recuperando 9 rebotes; Gabe McCray con 11 tantos además de 9 tableros.

Dorados viajará a Hidalgo del Parral para el compromiso del sábado ante Mineros en duelo correspondiente a la Jornada 8 en el Gimnasio Municipal Parral a las 20:00 horas.

Wat een druk moet er wel niet liggen op Christa Deguchi (°95; Can; 1° WRL) om niet opnieuw de Spelen te missen ten voordele van haar landgenote Jessica Klimkait (°96; Can; 2° WRL; 3° OG'20 Tokyo). In deze cyclus lijkt Christa mentaal echter een pak sterker dan ooit te voren. Staat ook met een ongelooflijke 9.290p helemaal bovenaan de OG-ranking, vóór .... Jessica (8.150p). Matthias staat overigens 4° op die ranking, Romane Dicko 3° (7.925p).

Mina vecht als altijd sereen voor wat ze waard is, maar tegen de échte top reikt dat dus onvoldoende ver. >> video. Na 43"sec een eerste waarschuwing van Deguchi met o-uchi-gari; na 1'11"min een volle counter met o-soto-gari en ippon. Einde WK.

El significado de atroz es subjetivo, por lo cual se encuentra ligado a diversas cuestiones que hacen al contexto social, cultural, histórico, económico y político.Lo atroz  hace referencia a aquello que es brutal, desalmado, sanguinario o cruel. 

Belleza es una noción abstracta ligada a numerosos aspectos de la existencia humana. La belleza se estudia dentro de la disciplina filosófica de la estética, además de otras disciplinas como la historia, la sociología y la psicología social .

En toda obra de arte por muy sanguinaria o mala que parezca siempre habrá algo bonito o interesante como lo  es la técnica, el detalle así como la expresividad pasmada. una pintura es susceptible de distinta manera de a cuerdo a las vistas de los espectadores.

OBJETIVO GENERAL:

El objetivo de este proyecto es mostrar como aunque todo parezca muy mal o negativo ,siempre hay algo  bueno, lindo, interesante o incluso cautivante, no mirándolo solo estéticamente, todo dentro de los que nos rodea tiene algo cautivante, como las emociones de ira, miedo, llanto, esas son emociones consideradas negativas, que nadie quiere o todos rechazamos, pero incluso el ver con ira alguien puedes ver mas aspectos reprimidos de la persona y es cautivante poder observar mas de ella y de lo que es capaz.

OBJETIVOS ESPECIFICOS:

1-.Tomar como por atroz a todo aquello desalmado como lo es la muerte, creando representaciones de ellas.

2-.Interpretar la imagen de cierta manera que los demás puedan observar la belleza no solo estética de la obra.

DESCRIPCION DEL PROYECTO:

Pienso relazar obras abstractas, no tan naturistas, con una paleta de colores grisáceos violetas, utilizando negro para crear profundidad, los colores utilizados serán de esa paleta de colores contrastándolos con el negro para ser mas referentes al tema de la muerte.
