Here's something a little sweeter for you guys, a spin-off au of sorts from the panic au. This one is gonna be more slice of life and fluff, plus nhad because there's a disappointing lack of nhad in the fandom

Either way, here's a simple synopsis of the plot!

After an accident with uzi's solver niko woke up one morning split into three. Handed to Thad while uzi finds a way to undo this fuck-up Nyx, Neo and Nel all have to navigate their feelings for Thad and the silly arguments they constantly get into.

All fun this time, can't wait to draw up more stuff for this au on the side! Oh, and a note, this au has no narrative ties to the panic au other than nyx being a returning face! I just like him lol

So, I wanted to talk about something since MD Twitter in particular seems to be having some issues with a current trend in the MD fandom. That being the Panic AU by @candyasbestos (apologies in advance for the ping, just felt like maybe you'd wanna see this)

So I'd like to start right off the bat by saying anyone who is uncomfortable with this AU is completely reasonable for being that way. It's more so that uncomfortableness leading to disdain for the AU that I wanna talk about.

So, I'm a horror fan. I watch plenty of things on horror movies and play plenty of horror games. And what exactly does horror media try and do? Make the player horrified and uncomfortable. Seeing grotesque imagery which may make you wanna vomit. One of the games that comes to mind for something that's definitely meant to make people uncomfortable and not just scared is Fear & Hunger. It's a game with incredibly uncomfortable imagery, sometimes due to gore and other times due to sexual themes. And it's perfectly reasonable for that to turn people off, yet I've never seen anyone have the kind of reaction to stuff like that compared to the reactions some people have had to the Panic AU

And that's the thing with the Panic AU, it makes *N* uncomfortable. Uncomfortable with himself due to Nyx's influence on him. That is the entire point of the AU it seems. And Nyx himself seems to be some kind of representation of mental illness (pretty standard horror trope, I know). I'm not an expert in the subject despite dealing with it quite a bit so I won't name any specific mental illnesses it could be, but it's clear to me Nyx is some kind of urge of N's.

I've made plenty of characters like Nyx for my original works that are also meant to be representations of mental illness. Voices that whisper to you to do terrible things, creatures that make you feel worthless and shut down, etc. I make these not only because I find them scary but also as reflections of my own experience with mental illness. And it's that first point again that makes me question people's reactions to it.

People have said "It's grossly out of character for N" and stuff like that which...honestly that makes me think they only saw the initial wave of art and don't really know how N feels about the whole situation. But the other thing is that so many AUs have intentionally mischaracterized N because of what the AU is. And I'm not talking just swap AUs, I've seen plenty where N's character is wildly different because of the circumstances of the AU. And I see the Panic AU no different.

I also saw another comment of someone saying "We shouldn't normalize behavior like this" and again, I question whether the person has actually researched the thing they're talking about. Nyx, the thing that makes everyone uncomfortable, is very clearly the *villain* of the AU. He killed Uzi, he wants N to kill Thad, he's a horrid little creature. Are villains not meant to do things we disdain? Murder, torture, etc. It's prefectly understandable these things would make people uncomfortable, but isn't that what many villains do? There's plenty of media with torture scenes in them which make people uncomfortable, but that's the point! Hell, some kid shows have torture scenes. What about the Lich's design from Adventure Time? He's a rotting corpse! In a kid show! His design is clearly meant to make the viewer uncomfortable.

So again, while I don't think anyone is in the wrong for being uncomfortable due to the AU, I think many of the criticisms are unfair. A piece of media which is specifically designed to make people uncomfortable should not be criticized for that very reason. Avoid it all you want, that's completely reasonable! Never feel like your reasons for being uncomfortable are unwarrented. But I'm just saying that if you were to critique Silent Hill because it's themes of mental illness and character depictions made you uncomfortable, and that was a *negative*, it just seems a little weird to me.

This is all just my opinion, obviously I'm not THE definitive person on the matter. And I'm not saying anyone who has the AU blocked or anything should check it out. I'm just saying, many people seem to be judging it unfairly.

First up is Panic AU by @candyasbestos. I did NYX a disservice. Ignore him and just look at N and Uzi. Don't even look him in the eyes. He got redesigned again anyways so fuck it.

They're kinda cramped in there but it felt incomplete if I didn't include all three.

Zagreus escapes AU

AU where Zagreus was the one who grabbed Melinoë and ran away to the Crossroads with Hecate.

Like obviously, he tried to stay and fight with his parents. But Hades and Persephone were like "your job is to protect your sister and it is our job to protect you" and then Nyx (with Hecate's help) does some magic bullshit to prevent Zag from following.

So he lost his parents and his lover(s).

He no longer is as quippy and sassy. His vibe is solemn. (Think Patroclus with Thanatos' silence)

I think he would be a boss too, trying to stop Mel from confronting Chronos and risking the Titan taking away his final family. (I imagine that's how Mel would permanently vanquish Chronos? Convincing Zag to fight with her as a call or something. It triggers a dialogue/cut scene right before entering Tartarus: "Spent years breaking out of Tartarus, never thought I'd be breaking in")

Zag's design would be less red and representative of Hades, and more of what he lost. He'd wear more greys and blues (Than and Meg's colours) with small hints of red. A butterfly following him around would be a cute but sad touch.

At the Crossroads, he'd probably be a bit of an outcast. He's withdrawn, kinda hates Hecate (it's a little misplaced) and is definitely hated by Nemesis (he can't blame her, he blames himself too). Whenever Charon is around, Zag is nowhere to be found. And he can't even look at Hypnos.

Whenever Mel tries to ask Zag about what happened, he doesn't say much other than it was his biggest shame.

He warns her about trusting the Fates. Sure they helped him in the past but now he's wary.

The Gods and Goddesses ask Mel about Zag because he's been ignoring their calls. (He's paranoid that Chronos will somehow use it to find the Crossroads)

Zagreus obviously has a soft spot for Melinoë, she's all he has left at this point. He was left one job after abandoning his parents (he didn't abandon them, but it sure felt like it) and he's going to keep doing it until his last breath.

So it's a given he's protective of Mel. She walks in on Zag talking to Nem and telling her to "back the fuck off my little sister" when Nem is airing her grievances about Mel. Though whenever Mel talks to Zag directly (passive dialogue and not the important plot ones with the special interact icon) after each run, he's asking Mel why she insists on doing an impossible task and subtly trying to talk her out of it.

At the garden, he makes a comment like "you have a green thumb like Mum. Dad and I kill everything we try to plant without her help. Except for pomegranates".

The most emotion the Crossroads have ever seen on Zagreus was when he quite literally blazed through camp searching for Hecate because his little sister was turning into a shade.

All Hecate heard was a desperate cry of "LADY HECATE", full of panic, and when she turned around, she saw the prince clutching her writhing disciple in his arms.

Nico & Nipollo Headcanons (tied to the God-King Nico AU)

Here is a list of my Nico & Nipollo headcanons that I haven't mentioned yet so far. I'll update as I have more. Nico:

When deified, Nico has floating streams of liquid-like shadows mixed with gleaming ichor instead of blood, defying gravity.

He has an extensive social network of gods at his disposal, helping out with the various after-life affairs the other pantheons have going on.

Meetings with Anubis, Osiris, and Freyja are his favorites. He can barely tolerate Hel.

He likes spending time in Persephone's garden, tending to the plants that thrive in the dark.

As time passes, Perse and Nico grow closer as stepmother and son.

Nyx was the one who ascended Nico to godhood after he gained immortality from Hades because no one except Chaos could truly govern Nyx’s actions.

Nipollo:

Nico and Apollo's marriage was purely political and symbolic, for the unison of the Underworld and Mount Olympus. In time, the two started getting more involved with each other, growing to love each other.

Apollo claims the fatherhood of the cacodaemons alongside Nico, he loves them like family.

Both Apollo and Artemis pamper the cacodaemons and shower the kids with gifts. Nico hates to see his kids being spoiled, but he also loves the fact that Apollo cares about them this much.

Even though Nyx and Apollo are on bad terms and can't stand each other, they strike a temporary truce for Nico.

Apollo tries his best to help Nico with his Underworld duties, even though Nico insists that Apollo wouldn't understand half the things required, not being a Chthonic god and not knowing the inner workings of the Underworld.

After an exhausting day of work, Apollo likes to soak in a warm bath with Nico, massaging his back and relaxing together, just enjoying each other's company.

Being the god of healing, Apollo helps Nico out when he suffers from seizures and panic attacks, which is unfortunately not uncommon.
