#2638 - Nyctemera annulata - New Zealand Magpie Moth
AKA Leptosoma annulatum, Nyctemera annulatum, Nyctemera doubledayi, Nyctemera tripunctaria and Mokarakara.
A day-flying Erebid moth endemic to all parts of Aotearoa, and feeds on Senecio as a caterpillar. The introduced ragwort Senecio vulgaris has been quite a boon to the species.
The caterpillars are black and yellow, and bitter to the taste. That doesn't stop the shining bronze cuckoo (Chalcites lucidus) from gorging itself on the larvae when they're available, regurgitating the empty skins later.
Quite similar to the related N. amica, which is found in Australia and Aotearoa, and with which it may interbreed.
Fairlie, Aotearoa New Zealand

Ok, on the randomised gender link that you linked, the one I got was Nyctemera ludekingii, a type of moth. A type of moth that like to fly in the day time. Guess spider sun should start calling me a month now I guess XD ~Shy
pfft, maybe you should correct him on the ask blog tomorrow (which I will be on for a few hours tomorrow answers rps and moving into the next phase of the bug event)

I was wondering what sites you would recommend downloading shaders from? last time i tried downloading a shader i got mackeeper despite all my adblockers :(
hey thanks for asking!! i use this site and i’ve never had a problem with it!! let me know if that still gives you an issue :)
and sorry about mackeeper :/ i imagine you got something called “mackeeper 911″ which is like a ripoff of the actual mackeeper. if you need help getting rid of that here’s a link! i have a mac and i’ve gotten malware before, it’s nasty. good luck with your shaders!!

hello my dearest friend I would like a moth assignment
the main moths that remind me of you are pale ones! such as:
the small white wave (Asthena albulata),
the small emerald moth (Hemistola chrysoprasaria)
or the heart moth (Dicycla oo)!!
other ones are brown ones like the small magpie moth (Anania hortulata)
or the marbled white moth (Nyctemera coleta)!!
the beautiful white witch moth (Thysania agrippina), a rather large moth, also feels like you! it has some captivating patterning
honestly… despite how much i associate you with blue greys, that doesn’t seem to carry over to moths? perhaps its because blue or grey moths are both in short supply to begin with…
did you know that one way to identify moths is by how they fold their wings at rest?
moths often ‘tent’ their wings, hiding their back, but other times they leave their wings spread at their sides!
the way a moth folds its wings vary based on species, and some species can be noted with wings in multiple postures! this can be partly due to how much room there is to spread out.
the main postures used to identify moths are:
arrow (flat, shape ranges from arrow, triangular, or parallel when seen from above. hindwings typically not visible),
parallel (3-d, tube, no gap between forewings), spread (flat, hindwings visible),
tail (mostly flat, tail is distinct and uncovered, often raised in the air),
tent (3-d, covers the abdomen, does not lie flat like the arrow shape),
underside (wings held aloft in a manner similar to a butterfly, underside of the forewing is visible)
and up (entire body is held up in the air).
v if you were a moth you’d probably have a tent or parallel wing shape. maybe a more folded arrow.
also i spent all day trying to id this moth for you but with no luck: https://perpustakaan.blogspot.com/2010/09/white-blue-wings-moth.html?m=1

Hi! I caught and released this guy recently. I thought it was a butterfly at first, but now I just noticed it doesn’t have clubbed antennae? Can I get an ID? West Java, Indonesia
It does look like a butterfly, doesn’t it! It is in fact a day flying moth, so you’ve got a good eye. It’s a marbled white, Nyctemera coleta. :)

Not all the Asian magpie moth caterpillars will survive. Of course, without these parasites the caterpillars would quickly overtake our planet. It's a horrible form of natural pest control.
