Cada lugar una historia. En el recorrido de espacio de artistas (la mayoría comunitarios), llegue por recomendación de Monti a @sculpturespacenyc en Long Island City (en bici fue una travesía que valió la pena), porque es un lugar donde se trabaja solo cerámica no utilitaria es decir artística y escultorica. Me avisaron que no eran tan amigables (y no la pifiaron) y que necesitaba cita previa. Pero mis nuevos amigos de @clayspace1205_brooklyn me conectaron con @lincolnmayne un artista australiano que vive hace 25 años en Estados Unidos entre NY y LA y que fue un sol dentro de una comunidad talentosisima pero bastante apática de escultores que no me dieron ni bola. Pero la obra y la buena vibra de Lincoln son increíbles y el es un personaje súper interesante, lleno de información y experiencias para contar y mucha data técnica. Al principio se atajó porque caí de paracaidista, pero cuando nos pusimos a charlar pasaron dos horas sin darnos cuenta. La comunidad artística en general tiene muchos egos subidos de tono pero cuando te animas a conocer sin prejuicios, tocar puertas, muchas veces te encontras con gente mágica que comparte los mismos issues que todos tenemos en el dia a día, como artistas y como simples seres humanos. El es Monty y les voy a contar esta historia. Fui a NY a visitar a mi hermano antes que se mude a LA y decidí visitar estudios de artistas. Una mañana me subí a la bici de mi hermano y me fui a Green Point, el limite norte de brooklyn. Una zona al lado Del Río Hudson pero en medio de una zona fabril. El mapa me indicó haber llegado pero nada se veía salvo galpones enormes con camiones de carga y poco rastro humano. Vi a un hombre con un buzo y la capucha puesta y le pregunté sobre @clayspace1205_brooklyn el lugar que buscaba. Me miro desconfiado y me dijo es acá. Me mande dentro de una fábrica con un desconocido y sin pensar Le pregunte su nombre, Monty me dijo (un gran amigo de NY que falleció hace unos años se llamaba Monty, y eso me gustó). Subió mi bici 4 pisos por escalera. Me dijo que era tímido y le saqué que era ceramista y que hacía sus piezas ahí durante el día y de noche trabajaba de lava copas en u restaurante. El lugar es maravilloso lleno de artistas que rentan el estudio para trabajar y justamente las piezas que más me gustaban eran de el, aunque nunca me lo confesó porque le daba timidez. La cuestión es que Monty es un artista del carajo(perdon mi frances), y las piezas que hace mezclando plantas, plumas, fieltro y después luz y otros elementos me parecieron increíbles. Su usuario de instagram era inentendible e inubicable. Todo por su vergüenza y timidez. Y ahí me salió el mentoring al rescate y no se como (para el asombro de la dueña del lugar que hace más de 6 años intenta que el salga a la luz), logre que se anime y empece a tunear su cuenta y darle algunos consejos pero muy de caradura y sin que me los pida. Lo pienso y digo, quien me manda? La cuestión es que fue un encuentro mágico de la nada. Nos conocimos y fue tan especial que creo que los tres (a Janine a Monty y a mi) nos quedamos flasheados con la experiencia. De una loca en bici que llego de argentina sin avisar y tener un encuentro mágico. Y hoy recibí este mensaje de Monty que me lleno de alegría.: “ Hi its Monty it was a great pleasure to meet you. I wish you much success. Until we meet again.Thank you for helping me past great obstacle”.
