Saw maybe the funniest uQuiz question ever. Like girl you can’t have a list of minor personality flaws and then “RACIST” as an option, like obviously that’s worse than someone being kinda rude or annoying lmao

I HAVE a Thought about jay walker and his comeback specifically in the next season. trying to understand the Psychology of these writers like i have a PHD in Ninjago writerology
i already have said that i really think cole is going to be the one to find jay, because of the whole set up in which nya said 'wu's voice led me to kai.' when cole starts hearing ghost wu talk. right. listen i will re-iterate that they genuinely wouldn't have had nya say this, if cole wasn't going to find..someone, because we (the audience) saw nya find kai! we watched it happen! we don't need to be told this disposition twice, unless its a reminder. which is also supported by how many times they mention something along the lines of '___ is still missing!'. and we know only two team members who are missing at this point. (three if you include Pixal, but i'd be so suprised if anyone but Zane finds her, if i know nj writers) i dont think it's going to be wu, because why would wu lead one of the ninja to himself when one of the team is still missing? wu will be found last, that is, if at all. so that leaves our guy.
but why cole? what is significant about cole finding jay? initially my one thing that was debunking this was this thought.. like why would they let cole run off on his own to get the silly guy back. especially if he made such a big deal out of staying back to protect geo and The Kids? but maybe the answer is actually pretty simple. maybe wu chose cole to do this, to get jay back, because it's canonly established that they are..they're just best friends? and guys, we all know what they say..
the best way to defeat ur enemy. yeah. u guys know. is to make them ur friend. micrdrop
maybe wu knows that jay has lost his memories, or his sense of self, and knowns that what it'll take to win him back is a close friend. we know cole canonly understands jay the best, (backed when he says 'dont try to lie to me, i know you two well')
another thing. it kind of just.. works? at the moment, cole is seperate from the rest of the team. like.. kai lloyd arin wildfyre nya sora are off doing their thing, zane and frohicky are back holding the fort, and cole is kinda rawdogging the merge by himself (+the found family). it makes sense for him to do this alone- plotwise (it's just neater. can u imagine the entire aformentioned gang pulling back up to admin trying to get him back? nightmare. wouldnt work) but also just because he's been basically separated this whole time.
i'd also like to imagine another crazy scene at the admin, where cole has to use his new powers to save jay out of corporate hell in some intense but also quite comedic way. but this is me getting ahead of myself. for now id like to leave this here

Disconnect
(some context: Headcanon that Cole feels like he is not really a part of the group and these feelings of his got worse after he became a ghost and got almost forgotten completely during dotd)
----------------------------------------------
[The ninja are all goofing off and having fun at the monastery- it's their day off afterall! Why wouldn't they?]
[Kai is playfully bullying Lloyd while Nya and Jay are laughing along and telling him to stop picking on the kid, Zane and Pixal are just chatting about in their own little world, meanwhile Misako and Wu refuse to rest and keep reading and rereading ancient scrolls.]
[But while everyone else is occupied and having fun in each other's company, there is one who is just,,, standing near the wall, with music blasting through his headphones, watching from the sidelines.]
[He wishes he could also indulge in the fun but,]
Cole: (sigh)
[He's never been able to put his finger on the 'why', but, he's always felt separated from the group.]
[Disconnected, if you will.]
[This feeling of disconnection only growing and growing after the events that took place on that one day of the departed.]
[He tries his hardest to drown it all out by the music from his headphones, he doesn't want to let these thoughts interfere with his mind. But no matter how hard he tries to shake them away, they come back. Sometimes even worse than before.]
[Despite arguably being the glue that holds them together, he himself doesn't believe that they all actually enjoy his company. His mind telling him constantly that they would much prefer it if he were, well, not there.]
[No matter how high he turns up the volume he is unable to drown these thoughts out today.]
[His mind telling him how little he provides to the group and how no one will notice if he were to disappear one day.]
[Exactly like what happened that time.]
[In hopes to get rid of these fears, he heads to the kitchen, opens the refrigerator and grabs a slice of cake.]
[He decides to stay in the kitchen because hey? No one's gonna notice right?]
Cole: The cake's good.
[His mind takes him back to that day of the departed. The day when this fear of his started to worsen.]
Cole: They really won't notice if I just- was gone one day.
[He tries his best to hide these feelings when he is around them however. For he does not want them to feel guilty over his stupid fears.]
[He knows that they don't feel that way towards him but his mind keeps on saying that don't really want to be around him, that they are only tolerating him just because he lives alongside them. That they wouldn't even care if he was gone. That they-]
Zane: Cole? Cole?
Zane: I may have to adjust my volume appropriately for this.
Zane: COLE?
[Zane manages to snap him out of his spiral.]
Cole: ..Zane?
Zane: Pardon my intrusion but are you alright?
Cole: Huh?- OH, yeah, totally.
Cole: I just left to grab some cake, haha-
Zane: Are you sure? Your face is red. I assess that you were perhaps-
Cole: ...
[He hugs Zane and starts to cry.]
Zane: ?
Cole: Thanks for stopping by to check up on me Pinky.
Cole: Thanks for,, not forgetting.
[Zane hugs backs.]
Zane: My current memory processor is rather new to start doing that.
Cole: (laughs) Okay Tin Can.
----------------------------------------------
[Zane and Cole head back to the living room. The other ninja have all set up the console to play prime empire but haven't started yet since they were waiting for Cole to come back.]
Cole: You guys saved me a spot?
Kai: Ofcourse man!
Jay: Now come and sit quickly and watch me win.
Cole: With me in the game? There's no chance buddy.
[The gang's gamer hops over the couch and takes his rightful place in the middle and they all start playing and chatting together.]

Synopsis of Jay's Empire AU⚡⚡
[[Made by me and @culturalmochi ]]
The way it starts out is that Jay goes on a solo mission, finds the hard drive for Prime Empire, and gets trapped in the game.
Nobody knows where he went, so the ninja are desperately trying to find him.
Time in game moves a lot faster than in real life, so a few weeks for the ninja is a few months (close to a year) inside of the game.
Jay met Scott and he showed him the ropes of the game, but tried to subtly warn him about Unagami. Jay spent a lot of time leveling up and grinding so he could get high stats, but later found out that he wasn't able to leave or communicate with the outside world. Enter Unagami.
Unagami tells Jay that he sees potential in him, and that he's impressed with his progress through the game. They begin to have a sort of mentor/mentee kind of relationship.
Once again, time moves much faster in game. So jay starts to miss the real world and tells Unagami that he misses his friends. Unagami tells Jay, "if they were really your friends, they would have come back for you by now, wouldn't they?"
Later on, Jay is approached by none other than the ninja! His dearest friends finally coming back to rescue him and bring him home!
But as he spends more time with them, something feels... wrong. It turns out they're NPC's, and in his mission objective list, it says he has to "discard" them. So he does, and they crumble into little pixelated cubes. He levels up.
This repeats several times, each time the ninja dupes become more rude, indifferent, hateful. At some point they become so far removed from their true counterparts that the only thing in common they share is their appearances.
Then comes the time where Unagami is ready to open the game to the rest of the world. He brings Jay to help him spread the word by broadcasting an advertisement for Prime Empire.
That's when the ninja find out where Jay has been this whole time.
So the real gang enters Prime Empire and find Jay, who looks displeased to see them even if he tries to hide it.
Everyone is so happy to see him and to bring him out of the game, surrounding him with hugs and tears of joy.
But then Jay checks his objectives. "Discard the ninja". It's the same as it's always been, so he goes along with it.
But as Jay journeys with his friends through the game, he slowly comes to the realization that they aren't NPC's.. they're his real friends.
Scott, when he was first sucked in by the game, leveled up really fast and eventually gained the attention of Unagami. Unagami said he saw "great potential" in him and gave him access to the coding of the game. For Scott, this means he can essentially influence and change parts of the game, but not always by his own free will. With him being connected to the coding, that includes his thoughts, emotions, memories, trauma, etc. this connection also gave Unagami a way to keep track of where Scott was and what he was doing at all times.
so eventually, Unagami wants to bring empire to the physical world, but he needs help getting the world out. he tells Scott his plan and Scott is like "actually, fuck this :)" and escapes from Unagami. in order to keep him from tracking his every move, Scott cuts off his own connection to the game's code. He hunkers down in his hideout and tries to plot a way to a)escape and b)prevent Unagami from taking over the real world.
so finally, Jay enters the game! Scott finds him running away from red visors and picks him up and takes him to his hideout. Scott explains the general rules of the game, gives him tips on how to survive, glitches, cheats, all of it. but he tries to warn him about Unagami and Jay is too enraptured with the thrall of the game to pay any mind to Scott's warnings. Jay starts leveling up and progressing, very similar to how Scott did, and gained the same kind of attention from Unagami. he saw great potential in him. at that point, Scott says that Jay can't come to the hideout anymore, and Jay asks why. Scott says "i already told you, but you didn't listen to me." and so Jay goes to Unagami. Unagami promises him steep advantages in the game, protection, etc and Jay is going along with it because, to him, its still just a game. the gravity of the situation hasn't quite hit him yet. he doesn't know that he's trapped.
so now, Jay and Unagami have a sort of mentor/mentee kind of relationship, and Jay very much fits into the role of the teachers pet. the red visors are **VERY** protective of him and will often accompany him wherever he goes unless he tells them to leave (sometimes they listen, sometimes they dont). There is one red visor who is particularly close to Jay. she goes with him everywhere and is the most protective of him compared to the other RV's. Jay tries to talk with her sometimes, and one day he asks her what her name is. her voice glitches out a lot, like something is corrupted in her code. she repeats "four o-oh four-r-r AA e-rror-r four o-o-oh four-r AA" and Jay is like "hmm.. rora? can i call you rora?" and she just nods at him. (Rora becomes important later!!)
so anyways, going back to how Unagami has adopted Jay as his mentee, Jay has the same kind of access to the game's coding that Scott does. including the influence of his memories and past traumas. this manifests in several ways, but one of which is how the NPC clones of the ninja interact with him. Jay has a lot of issues with self esteem and often fears that nobody really cares about him, finds him annoying, etc. so with each iteration of the ninja dupes, they become meaner and meaner until the only resemblance they share to their irl counterparts is their physical appearance.
Jay (not realizing that Unagami is the one creating the dupes) goes to Unagami to vent about how he misses his friends and wishes they could join him in the game. Unagami tells Jay "if they were really your friends, they would have come for you by now. They probably forgot about you. but it's not you ever needed them anyways. here, you are powerful, loved by everybody, adored by the masses. in here, you are important." gotta love that gaslight gatekeep gameboss moment. eventually, Unagami is ready to bring prime empire to the physical world once he's seen Jay get to the same point that Scott was at. Unagami says that he needs Jays help to deliver the message, and that crossing the line between digital and physical means that Jay can go back to the real world while still maintaining the same power and reputation he has in the game. Jay agrees and works with Unagami to make an advertisement.
this is the advertisement script:
[Do you want to join Prime Empire?
“What is Prime Empire?” it’s a fully immersive, futuristic video game experience! Using the latest virtual emulation technology, players are quite literally part of the game. Customize your avatar, meet other players, level up, and compete in tournaments!
“But how do I join?” The answer is simple, silly! Prime Empire can be found in your arcades, in your consoles, even on your phones! You would have to live under a rock to not find your way in.
“How do I win?” Your quest is to seek out the legendary Keytanas. But be warned, there are challenges that you will face. Deadly forests, dangerous races, and more! Will you rise above the rest and claim your rightful victory?
Join today, but don’t delay! Only the first 100 players will get a chance to meet yours truly (winks). In the Super Star Rocking Jay event, I will teach you the ropes of the game, along with exclusive tips that will give you an advantage over other players!
Do you have what it takes? Prove your worth and become part of Prime Empire!]
however, Scott has caught wind of the ad, and so he hacks into the broadcast and tries to warn everybody to "STAY OUT OF PRIME EMPIRE!!" but once again, his warnings fall on deaf ears.
however, now the ninja know where Jay has been all this time! they manage to be part of the 1st 100 players in the game and go to the super star rocking Jay event. Kai, Nya, Lloyd, Cole, pixal and zane all get in the game. but due to their own coding, pixal and zane despawn and get plopped back in the real world within the first 10mins of the game. They spend a lot of time outside of prime empire trying to find ways to re-enter the game.
so now we finally get to when the (remaining) ninja meet up with Jay, and he is disappointed at best when he sees them. but when they surround him with love and hugs and tears of joy, it throws him off guard. all of the NPC's were never this kind to him. He checks his objective menu and a new notification shows up. "discard the ninja". same as it's always been. part of the objective has always been to "not let the ninja know that you know they are fakes." but after all of this time, Jay has grown tired and so he doesn't really bother trying to keep up appearances. he won't flat out say that he thinks they're fakes, but his demeanor is completely off.
the ninja make it to okino and they start going through the forest, the cliffs, and finally the maze of the red dragon. throughout this time, there are several little moments that lead Jay to believe that these might be his real friends. he tries to write them off, but it keeps nagging at him. in the canon scene where Unagami pauses the game and talks to okino, its the same except its Jay that Unagami talks to. "just wanted to check in with you, everything is still going according to plan, correct?" Jay responds with "yes, but these ones are different. none of the other clones have acted so.. so close to my real friends." Unagami scoffs "these ones are just as fake as the others. make sure you complete your objective. we are very close to bridging the gap, and I wouldn't want anybody to hold you back from being at my side when we cross over." Jay agrees and the game resumes.
Jay has the perfect opportunity to let his friends perish at the hands of the dragon, but something in him screams at him to help them win. he points out the scale on the back of the dragon, they defeat it, and Jay gets the dragon summon. instead of keeping it, he gives it to Cole. "i figure you guys will probably need it more than me. I've got higher stats, i can take care of myself." (that dragon summon becomes important later) so ANYWAY now its time for the speedway 5billion. but they don't have enough credits so they have to get some extra money. the gang goes to the dance battle, but! theres also a karaoke battle they have to participate in. Jay and Cole sing Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears (this song is also important later!) and they win the contest and get enough credits to enter the race. however...
by this point in time, Jay is pretty sure that this group is his **real** friends, and he doesn't feel like he can go through with his objective anymore. besides, would clones really dance with him? sing his favorite songs with him? watch out for him when danger approaches? smile at him with such kindness and sincerity? clones wouldnt, but his real friends would. once again, his connection to the code means that Unagami is able to track him, and also take peeks into his mind. Unagami senses this realization and pauses the game again to confront him. "Jay, you must not let these clones cloud your judgement. you still have a mission to complete." Jay says "Unagami, these aren't dupes! they're really my friends, and they came back for me! i can't just "discard" them like you want me to. I won't!" "you WILL if you ever want to leave this digital space. if you will not join me in bridging the gap, then you will be left in here for all of eternity. the choice is yours, Jay walker." and with that, the game resumes.
the ninja are all talking and they realize that Jay has gone silent. "Jay? you good?" Kai asks. Jay snaps out of it and reassures them that he's fine. but thats when he sees *him*. in the crowd of NPC's bustling about the city, he sees nadakhan. staring at him with that evil, calculated grin and begins approaching them. Jay's eyes go wide and his stomach drops. "are you sure you're okay?" Lloyd asks. "we.. we need to get out of here. we need to leave *now*" Jay says with a quiet, wavering voice. Just as he moves to flee, Nya gasps.
It was the scene of Nya dying. She was cradled in Jay's arms, muttering her last words before going completely limp. The master of lightning shook with broken sobs, clinging to his friend as if holding her tight enough could bring her back. That was the day that Jay Walker had lost everything.
And now, that moment was set on an infinite loop, broadcasted on every screen in the capital city of Prime Empire.
Jay was frozen, unable to do anything but succumb to his rising panic.
Nya was in a similar state, feeling the sharp pains of her chest that came from her old wound. She remembered dying, the pain and vulnerability. Now her final moments were in full display.
The rest of them gazed in horror and confusion, unable to comprehend what was going on. Jay thinks he heard Kai yelling, maybe he was asking why his sister was dying over and over again. Cole sounded like he was trying to warn everyone about the approaching assailants. Those of which looked like clones of the Misfortune's crew, including their tyrannical captain.
It was all too much. Jay felt his digital blood freeze in his veins, his air cutting off entirely, and his vision slowly turning to static.
Nadakhan. Nya. Tiger widow venom. Kai. Nadhakan. Nya. Zane. Cole. Nya. Lloyd. Nadakhan. Nya. Nya. Nya. N-
Jay's friends tried to reach for him, to help him, but then it happened.
An explosion of lightning burst from Jay's body, flooding through the city with blue and white pixelated sparks. And once the wave had passed, the city went dark. The screens that were looping that wretched day were now idle. The Misfortune's crew were nowhere to be seen. Jay had fallen unconscious.
"What are you guys doing here?" Scott asked, his face contorted in concern.
"Scott, it- its Jay. He had this weird power surge and he-" Lloyd stuttered before him and his friends were roughly yanked inside of Scott's hideout.
Cole was carrying Jay's limp body, and followed Scott's instructions to lay him on the workbench. But not before he had thrown all of his tools and blueprints on the ground in a rush.
"What did you say? About a power surge?"
"It was-" Lloyd started again
"It was like he exploded," Kai cut in, "we've never seen his element act like that."
"The city, it went dark." Nya added.
"And there was something going on with the city screens, they were showing-" said Cole.
"My sister dying! Over and over again! That's not part of the game, right?!"
"Guys guys! Chill the fuck out, one at a time." Scott demanded. They all went quiet before Nya spoke up.
"The screens showed one of Jay's memories. One of his most traumatic ones. NPC's started changing into people that.. are related to that memory. They started attacking us from all sides. Jay had gone into a panic attack before he surged. That wave of power blew out the whole city's power and everything went dark. After that he passed out."
Scott looked at her with a look of dread.
"This is worse than I thought.."
"What do you mean worse? Scott, what's wrong with Jay?" Cole asked. Scott sighed.
"He's.. he's become part of the game."
"Like an NPC?" Lloyd said.
"No, not an NPC. His memories, his soul, his life force- it's bleeding into the coding of the game. His emotions and memories are able to affect the behavior of the game. Environments, NPCs, everything."
"How do you know all of that, Scott?" Nya interjected.
"Because he's just like me."
"What??" The ninja said in unison.
"When I first came into the game, Unagami wanted me to bring Prime Empire to the real world. To break out of this digital prison and conquer the rest of the physical world. I agreed to help him because I didn't see any other way out of this hellscape. He granted me access to the code. So I'm just as connected to Prime Empire as Jay is. My memories are there too.
But the thing is, is that I've cut myself off of the code. It's the only way I could hide from Unagami, since I had abandoned ship and didn't want to help him anymore. I'm a threat because I can affect the code.
But if I don't connect to it, I stay hidden.
But Jay, his connection is so strong by this point. Everything he does changes the game.
He's gonna be okay, for now, but I can't guarantee the same for all of you." Scott finished, his eyes sunken and tired.
"Wh- what are we supposed to do then? How can we get Jay out of here?" Kai asked.
"Beat the game. As far as I know, there's no other way out of here."
They all looked at each other, faces grim but determined.
"Well we can't leave here without Jay, can we stay here until he wakes up?" Said Nya.
"Absolutely not." Scott replied.
"What? Why??" Cole butted in.
"The longer you guys stay here, with h i m, the more danger all of us are in. Jay is part of the coding, Unagami can find him. And that means he can find u s."
"Well how do we wake him up? There's gotta be some way!" Lloyd pleaded.
Scott looked at Jay's unconscious form.
"Fuck, okay, let me try something."
so Scott does the only thing he can think of that might work. he reconnects himself to the game's code in order to "plug in" to Jay and wake him up. when he plugs in, Scott sees Jay in a dark, endless room. he's crouched on the ground, sobbing and shaking
But thrashing from his body is manifestations of his trauma, like a horrible amalgamation that is distorting his physical form and its. Horrifying.
Scott looks at him and tries to approach him without getting hurt
He gets to him and he makes contact with his shoulder and then the surge of energy happens and he gets unplugged and shot across the room, and Jay wakes up with a start, chest heaving and his eyes still wet with tears. Cole is there right next to Jay, and Jay clings onto him like a lifeline. Kai wraps his arms around Jay too and they hold him and comfort him as best they can. Lloyd and Nya go over to Scott to see if he's okay. he groans and sits up, Lloyd and Nya help him stand. "what happened? what was that??" Nya asks. "I woke him up. but its not safe anymore. you guys have to get him out of here, or else Unagami is gonna show up and if he does.. well its safe to assume it'll be game over for all of us."
"we still have to win the highway 5billion and get the second keytana." Cole says, "and we need cars." Scott sighs at this, "i've got cars you can use, i won't be using them very much anymore anyways." "what does that mean?" Kai asks. "did you not hear me? its game over. you guys have to get Jay out of here." Scott says. "Scott, you know the game better than anyone, we need your help. will you race with us?" Nya pleads. Scott is about to reject when he looks at Jay. Jay is looking at him with a look that breaks his heart. "fine. I'll race with you guys."
so they fix up the cars and enter the SW5B and Scott is like "i guess if we're going in, i might as well get a new look." so he customizes his avatar (if u check my post with his redesign, thats the avatar he has, the glowing parts of his outfit change colors!) and they start the race! Scott doesn't have his own car, instead he's jumping from vehicle to vehicle and taking out the other drivers so that the ninja can win. he uses his baseball bat as a melee weapon but it can also shoot lasers! Kai still gets that loot box upgrade and has the running mech, and just like in canon, Cole and Kai get cubed. so does Scott, he gets run over lol. now its just Jay, Nya, and Lloyd and they make their way to the temple of madness.
then we have the fight. in canon its Lloyd and harumi, but in this au, Jay enters the arena instead. he gets in and the game picks his fighter. expecting it to be someone he's fought before, he prepares himself. but nothing could have prepared him for who he saw standing in front of him. it was echo zane.
Nya stares in horror and Lloyd is confused. "who is that? that can't be zane, right? why would he be part of the game?" Lloyd asks. Nya can't say anything, and neither can Jay. Jay wants to give up, he cant fight echo. someone who helped him in the most dire of times, only to be left alone on that island for the rest of eternity. Jay had never gone back for him, and that guilt he felt had just kicked into high gear having to look echo in the eyes. but then echo starts attacking him, and Jay has to defend himself. Jay wins, and sees echo disappear after the final blow. the walls of the arena disappear and Jay falls to his knees. Lloyd and Nya move in immediately to help him up. "seriously, what the hell is going on?? why aren't you guys saying anything??" Lloyd demands. "we can't talk about it right now, Lloyd. we'll have to tell you later." Nya says quietly. her voice is tight and dies in her throat. Lloyd gets the hint and doesn't push it any further.
so the three of them make it through the sushi restaurant and make it to the gate with the 3 keytanas. Jay, Lloyd, and Nya go to put in the blades and they open the gate. standing in front of them is none other than Unagami. "Jay, you have disappointed me. you were so important, so valued, and you have thrown that away for the sake of your so-called 'friends'. thankfully, there is still a place for you." Unagami says. "i don't WANT a place with you! you've hurt me, you've hurt my friends, you've hurt so many innocent people. all of those cubes? those are REAL PEOPLE! i can't let you do this Unagami. I won't let you get away with this." Jay says defiantly. Unagami sighs, "i was hoping it would not come to this. but if you chose to act this way, you will face the consequences. you will help me bridge this gap, whether you like it or not." and Unagami holds out his hands. an intense blue beam of light bursts from his palms and hits Jay square in the chest. the light is absorbed by his body and his form begins to glitch and spasm violently. mochi and i have called this the Blue Screen of Death. (tw for mild(?) body horror) Jay is overcome by the blue and his body begins to grow and distort, all the while he's screaming and his cries are glitched out and staticky. Lloyd and Nya watch, frozen in fear as their friend begins to grow to massive size, writhing in agony. Jay thrashes and knocks into both of them, sending them off the side of the platform and cubing them. the last two energy cubes join the gate and Jay crawls through.
(with this scene, in the background, the lorde version of everybody wants to rule the world would be playing, just as a nice parallel to the song from earlier at the karaoke battle)
MEANWHILE, as pixal and zane attempted to find ways to get back into the game, find milton dyer, etc, zane gets captured by the mechanic. everything goes the same as it does in canon where the mechanic hooks zane up to the gate.
and now, we get a look at where everybody who got cubed resides. Scott, when he was cubed, was greeted by Unagami personally. he criticized him for his actions and expressed his disappointment before ultimately locking him inside of a digital cell. Scott figured that this was how the rest of his life would be, trapped in a cage with no way out and no way to die. but then! Rora shows up. that corruption in her system from the beginning? that was her beginning to break away from her coding and becoming more of a person. she saw what happened to Jay, and she wants to help him. she breaks Scott out and they agree to work together to save Jay. but they're gonna need all the help they can get. together, Scott and rora free the ninja and all of the other cubed players and they make it through the portal.
and thats where they see Jay, now as tall as the skyscrapers in ninjago city and wreaking havoc on the entire area.
everyone looks up at him in utter horror and see just how corrupted he's become. he's wailing in pain as he drives his guitar down on building after building. thrashing and flailing, causing the structures around him to crumble and collapse. "how the fuck are we gonna fix this?!" Nya cries. "i can help." Unagami approaches them. everyone gets into fighting stances, ready to beat Unagami into the pavement. "i did not realize that corrupting him would turn out like this. i know how to fix him, but i need your help." "why should we help YOU?" Kai growls. "if you want to save your city and your friend from complete destruction, you *will* help me." and so Unagami explains that if they can lure Jay back through the portal, Unagami can undo his corruption and fix Jays "coding"
so now the ninja are trying to figure out how to get Jay's attention and bring him back through the portal. it seems like nothing is working, and then Cole gets an idea. he starts singing the lyrics to everybody wants to rule the world. it seems to get Jay's attention, so he keeps singing.
the others hear him and they join in. now they have Jay's attention, and he's closing in on them. that dragon summon from earlier? now thats when that comes in handy. Cole calls the digidragon and rides it so that Jay cant crush him while he lures him back to the portal. low and behold, they manage to get Jay through the portal, Unagami purifies his "coding" and they return to the physical world once again. Unagami gets to have his talk with milton and all of the npcs+pcs that want to come out do, and the others stay in the game. the city is in shambles, the portal closes, and zane+pixal+wu reunite with the others.
the car ride home is very quiet. everyone is exhausted, Jay is asleep and leaning on Cole's shoulder. they have a lot to talk about, but for now, they just want to sleep through the night. they make it home, go to their separate rooms, and go to bed.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand thats pretty much all of it!! theres a little epilogue that has snippets of what Scott, racer 7, okino, and rora do now that they're outside of the game, but thats just kinda there lol.

@ezlikessharks and I did another collab and this is my half of it!
You can find his half here
And the fic on AO3 here
Title: Communication
Rating: G there is 1 swear word but that’s it
Words: 1511
Kai+Nya+Lloyd sibling fluff
Lloyd isn’t really sure what he’s watching. Nya and Kai are sitting across from each other, and they seem to be communicating. Though it’s not any kind of communication that Lloyd is familiar with. There is lots of head tilting and subtle hand gestures. In addition to that, they are firing back and forth in a language that he was also unfamiliar with. If Lloyd didn’t know any better, he would have said they were using the Old Tongue. Except that was impossible because nobody spoke the Old Tongue anymore. Kai makes an aggressive gesture, and Nya throws her hands in the air.
“You take that back!” She huffs. Kai laughs.
“No way! I meant what I said. Totally true.”
Nya shoves her chair back and storms out of the room. When she pushes her way past Lloyd, he can hear her muttering about ‘good for nothing older brothers’. The whole time Kai is still cackling.
….What in the First Master’s name had he just witnessed?
Over the next week or so, Lloyd keeps one eye on the two of them. It turns out what he had witnessed wasn’t just a one off occurrence. Nya and Kai seemed to have a whole language worked out. He noticed that they actually seemed to use it the most on missions or during combat. That explained why they always seemed to be so in sync. All it took was a tilt of the head and a precise movement of the hand from Nya, and Kai was off. Or a single unfamiliar word combined with a sweeping wave has Nya leaping to Kai’s aid, working together like they are one person. The whole thing was very impressive. Lloyd couldn’t help but feel left out.
Why didn’t he know about this secret language? Wasn’t he part of their family too? That’s what Kai and Nya always told him anyways. So why did he feel like he was being excluded? Was he supposed to ask about it? Or was it something he was just supposed to figure out on his own? Or maybe it was so special to them they didn’t want to share it?
What to do, What to do? On one hand, he wanted to know what it was all about. Really, really badly. On the other hand, Lloyd didn’t want to intrude on something potentially private. He tended to steer clear of anything that could cause conflict between him and his siblings. The dynamic wasn’t new by any stretch of the imagination, but he still feared being too nosey could drive them away. That was the opposite of what he wanted.
Another two weeks pass, and Lloyd’s curiosity eventually wins out. At least partially. He runs a finger along the titles lining the shelves in Wu’s library, looking for something specific. It takes a while, but he does eventually find the book he is looking for. Plucking it from the shelf, he smiles. This should have some of the answers he’s looking for. With the intent to retreat to his room and study it, he tucks it under his arm. Just as he steps out the library door, Kai comes charging down the hall at full speed. Nya is hot on his tail.
“Out of my way!” Kai shrieks, attempting to skid to a halt. It’s no use. His socks get no traction on the polished wood floors and he slams right into Lloyd at full speed. The two of them go crashing to the ground in a heap. Lloyd’s book goes sailing right into Nya’s waiting grasp. Which would have been impressive except for the fact that Nya is also unable to stop in time and ends up tripping over the two of them. She lands heavily on his back and Lloyd lets out a gasp as all the air goes rushing out of his lungs.
“You know? We really should have better reflexes considering we’re all supposed to be ninja,” Kai mumbles.
“I caught the book. That has to count for at least something,” Nya counters.
“Yeah, but you’re still here on the floor so any points you earned from that are automatically deducted,”
“No way! That’s not how that works at all. Lloyd! Tell Kai I’m right!
“How about instead of that, you stop arguing and Get Off,” Lloyd grunts, struggling to catch his breath.
“Shit. Right.” Kai scrambles to his feet. He offers Lloyd a hand, which he gladly takes as soon as Nya lifts her weight off him.
“We didn’t think anybody would be over here. Sorry.” Nya grins sheepishly.
“I’m sure I can come up with a way for you to make it up to me,” Lloyd assures, dusting himself off. “Can I have my book back?”
“Oh, sure! What’s it for anyways?” Nya asks, handing it back. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you read anything that wasn’t a picture book.”
“First, that's offensive. They’re comic books. Not picture books. And second, I do too read book-books! It’s not my fault you never pay attention. This one is about the Old Tongue. I wanted to learn more about it” Lloyd puffs, trying to hide his embarrassment at getting ‘caught’. He’d just been curious to see if that was the language they were using. He wasn’t planning on telling them about his research. His siblings don’t seem to notice his internal struggle.
“The Old Tongue?” Kai perks up. “If you want to learn about that, Nya and I can help. We both speak it and I can guarantee learning from one of us will be way more interesting than whatever that book has to say.”
“Wait, you mean to tell me you actually know how to speak it?”
“Fluently,” Nya confirms. The book slips out of his hand, clattering to the floor. That was not what he was expecting to hear. Just because that was his theory didn’t mean he thought it would be true.
“Where in hell did you learn how to speak that?” He reaches down to collect the book. “I thought it was a dead language?”
“It’s not as dead as you might think. It’s not common, per say, but we grew up around enough people who spoke it that we both know it,” Nya explains. “In fact, it’s the first language I ever remember using.”
“When we were younger, we would use it to talk without others knowing what we were saying. But it was common enough the two of us ended up developing another, separate little system based on it instead.” Kai adds. Lloyd feigns surprise. This was his chance to ask about their secret language!
“You made up a secret sibling language?”
“Yeah! Would you like to learn?”
Lloyd’s heart soars, excitement coursing through his veins. Of course he wanted to learn!
“Yes!” He blurts a little too quickly. Kai raises a single eyebrow and heat rushes to his face. “I actually noticed something about a month ago. I wanted to ask you about it but it felt weird. I thought maybe it was private or something and I didn’t want to offend you or something. So I was going to try and watch you to figure it out on my own...that’s what the book was for.”
“Wow Lloyd. Way to make things sound weird” Nya teases gently.
“In all seriousness though, you should have said something.” Kai drops an arm over Lloyd’s shoulder. “It never really occurred to me to show you. Nothing against you. We don’t have an issue teaching you, right Nya?”
“Nope. Kai here doesn’t think much, obviously, but I’ve been planning to show you for awhile now. We’ve been busy and there hasn’t been a good time. That's all.”
“Excuse me?” Kai gasps. Lloyd giggles at his indigent expression.
“You can’t be offended when it’s true.” he points out. Nya smiles smugly
“Ganging up on me? So unfair. You’re both such ungrateful brats.” They all stare at each other for a moment, before bursting into laughter.
“Alright then! Are you ready for this?” Nya asks once they get themselves under control.
“Totally,” Lloyd nods, trying to keep his excitement under control.
“Sweet! We can start right now. Let’s go back to my room,” Kai begins leading them back through the monastery. As he does, he starts explaining. “The language itself is only a very small part of it. Hand signals are the important part. So I’ll show you some of those first…”
Kai’s explanation was confusing at best, and Nya often had to jump in and clarify. By the time an hour had passed, Lloyd was no closer to understanding than he had been at the beginning. Turns out things were even more complicated than he had originally thought. Learning was going to take some time.
Despite the setbacks, he can’t help the stupid grin that stays stuck on his face for the rest of the day. Quality time with his siblings was always something he looked forward to, and he was going to appreciate every moment of it. This was going to be fun.

Pomefiore Arc Analysis
I have posted a video for this nya. But I may have not explained everything so I’ll post it here by text nya. Here’s the vid nya!
youtube
So during the finale of the Scarabia Arc, we’ve seen that the gang have met Epel who was crying for some reason nya. As far as I’m concern about the reason, maybe he’s already sick of his dorm if we’re going to based it on his Ceremonial Robes story nya. He wanted to get into Savanaclaw after all but got into Pomefiore instead nya. Manner wise, he’s etiquette is...different among his peers nya. We can see that Vil and Rook pound some, if not all, knowledge into Epel’s head especially Vil nya. That and the fact that he escaped from Vil and Rook basing on their lines nya.
So this is what I speculate on what will go down in chapter 5 nya. We know that Vil is twisted from the Evil Queen in Snow White nya. Despite Epel being twisted from the apple, in a way he’s also twisted from Snow White herself, appearance wise, maybe ability wise and plot wise as well nya. During the movie, in a way, the Evil Queen drove out Snow White nya. Similar to that, whether it maybe directly or indirectly, Vil drove out Epel from the dorm thus leading Epel to maybe take in refuge to the MC’s dorm nya. Why Epel chose the MC’s dorm nya? I think that the MC is becoming more famous which is evident when Jamil knew or remembered what the MC has done for the first three dorms that they’ve changed nya. Since they’re also known to solve problems, Epel might seek help from them nya.
With Epel gone, being the dorm leader of Pomefiore and personally I think he’s a responsible person, Vil ordered Rook to find Epel and bring him back to the dorm. I think that Rook will obey that order and do as what he was told to do nya. From this point, I can see two possibilities on what will go down after being given an order nya: First possibility is that Epel will not attend to class in order to not get caught by Vil, Rook or any Pomefiore students nya. The second possibility is that Epel still attends classes but he’s being cautious nya. Either way, I can see Ace, Deuce and Jack helping out with this as well as the reluctant Grim nya. Though there are two ways I can see on how it will go down after being given the order, I can speculate that Rook will eventually find Epel either way nya. And how Rook finds Epel nya? I personally think that it’s because of his unique magic which enables him to track down his target nya. This is just a speculation on what will be Rook’s unique magic nya.
Anyways, upon finding Epel, I can see that there will be a battle between Rook, and possibly Vil, and the MC’s gang nya. During the fight, MC and Grim escaped along with Epel and taking refuge at Scarabia nya. Kalim being generous, agrees to take in Epel in his dorm and maybe the MC and Grim as well for safety reasons since firstly Grim isn’t that much of an experienced magician and secondly, MC is powerless unless the writers confirm that they have magic as a plot twist nya. Jamil maybe a skeptic about this but there’s nothing he could really do about it nya. Aside from this help, how Scarabia can help in this chapter, I can see Jamil maybe trying to divert Rook’s attention by maybe hypnotising students to act and dress up as Epel or distracting Rook with the help of his hypnotise targets nya. Because of Jamil, they’ve successfully hid Epel, at least for the time being nya. When Rook reported his failure to Vil, this time Vil took this matter into his own hands just like when the hunter in the movie failed to kill Snow White in the movie nya. Maybe another factor why Rook failed is because maybe a change of heart nya. Maybe understanding Epel’s situation nya. But personally, I don’t see him doing that nya.
How will Vil handle this nya? In order to find Epel, and knowing what happened and the reason why Rook failed to bring Epel back to the dorm, he uses his unique magic nya. I can see Vil’s unique magic being some sort of shapeshifter or maybe transforming into someone else to blend in nya. Not only can his unique magic change his appearance but his voice as well nya. I can see Vil being good at acting so there will be no problems when he portrays one of the gang nya. This is a reference from the movie when the Evil Queen tricked Snow White into thinking that she really is an old lady nya. I imagine him transforming into one of the MC’s close first year friends so that they’ll lead him to Epel nya. He successfully does and maybe even succeeded to take him back to the dorm nya.
Upon Epel’s disappearance, maybe after knowing Epel’s side on why he escaped, the group decided to help Epel escape and help him change his dorm nya. Now, it’s almost time for the climax. Along with the help of Scarabia, they successfully helped Epel escape nya. When they thought they were home free, they’re wrong nya. Once again, they were stopped by Rook and Vil once more nya. This time, the MC’s group is winning in this magic battle nya. I can see that in the climax, Epel and Vil exchange their ideals so on and so forth which leads me to think that Epel maybe the reason why Vil will go overblot nya. Either out of jealousy of Epel for some reason or their clashing ideals nya.
Now, about Vil’s past, I can see that being beautiful is the only way Vil can survive, having many part time jobs revolving around it and all nya. I’ve seen in I think in Tumblr or Youtube about one of Vil’s lines, he said that he almost got expelled I think which involved the tuition fee that I think he almost didn’t pay it nya. In other words, in his past Vil was poor nya. Maybe he needed more money and fast so he tried jobs like modeling or acting or something like that but he got rejected at first, maybe he wasn’t as beautiful as he is today nya. Knowing this the hard way, his mindset revolves around “beauty is everything” nya.
Now, how Pomefiore will end nya? I can see Epel and Vil maybe respecting each other’s ideals nya. Epel decided to stay in Pomefiore for some reason nya. I think that Epel saw an important reason to stay in the dorm instead of changing nya.

Darkley’s bois au
tw emotional and physical abuse/manipulation, insanity, death/murder attempts, torture attempts (this makes it sound bad but it’s not descriptive)
Kai, Nya, Jay, and Lloyd grew up at Darkley’s together and become villains (because they were all orphaned)
Background
Kai goes by the red shogun
jay goes by like blue jay or something
Cole and Zane are our hero’s and are horribly outnumbered (there are others like pixel, skylor, ronin, and dareth)
Gene and Brad are also part of the group but they usually stay back at base
Kai is the leader with nya as his second in command
he was deemed the strongest and decided to become the “protector” of their little rag tag group
As they get older though they start to participate in real crime and things get intense, while they were relatively close before, relations become strained and they start to act more like a small street gang
Kai becomes cruel and uncaring and only cares about getting the job done and the spoils they will earn with each heist, he’s power hungry
Kai is aggressive and lashes out a lot
Nya is cold and uncaring like a soldier
Jay is a psychopath
Lloyd is grumpy and...special
Jay used to be pretty normal, he taught gene how to use electronics and was actually pretty energetic and nice...to nice for Darkleys
Kai pulls a real dirty and goes to lash out at lloyd, jay tells him to lay off, Kai puts him in his place real quick
Now jays down an eye, covered in burns, and pretty lost in the head space
He would of probably died if it wasn’t for lloyd. Who suddenly shifted into a massive oni form and wrecked the place in a fit of rage
Jays powers are MAJOR fucked up so he’s covered in lichtenberg scars and there’s always lightning coming off of him
They are also boosted because he’s not using any restraint so he makes like spheres of lightning that he can throw
His veins will light up bright blue with electricity giving him super speed (this will wear him out for a bit before he can do it again)
he can channel pure lightning to teleport himself and other people (limited and highly taxing)
Kai makes him do all the dirty work acting as a weapon
Sometimes he will speak in rhymes and often uses puns in antagonizing
he will break down into hysterically laughter before shocking himself out of it
The actual plot
There’s a whole bunch of emotional stuff that happens where they are cornered and Lloyd goes oni
Lloyd is forced to be left behind and stays with (is prisoner) of our heros
Kai doesn’t care and is more pissed about them losing the loot they were after but the others convince him to try and bargain for him back
Lloyd is warming up to them though and is starting to think being evil isn’t really all that cool
Let’s say ronin is part of the hero team and they decide to kidnap him in order to trade, but jay goes to interrogate (torture) him and he says stuff that makes him think
So now lloyd and jay are questioning villainy but are to terrified of Kai to do any thing
Kai sets a trap and tries to kill the ninja but they escape and Lloyd is back with the Darkley’s bois
Lloyd starts saying stuff about how they could not be villains (he still believes in Kai and cares for him despite what he’s done) and be a family again but Kai gets mad and decides to make another heist to snap him out of it
They have captives and are able to manipulate the ninja with them into surrendering
Kai tells Lloyd to kill the ninja but he refuses and tells him off and they fight
Kai wins though and he’s going to kill lloyd and the ninja in an inferno when jay steps forward again
Jay seems to have reclaimed some of his sanity
he says he won’t let Kai kill or hurt any more people and he won’t be his lap dog anymore even if he has to die for it
Kai is about to kill him when nya steps in and puts the fire out before it can reach him
Now jay is semi normal and runs to lloyd who has dearly missed him (the real him), the ninja take them back with them and they eventually join them
They all have mega ptsd (jay especially) and with Kai still on the loose who knows what’s gonna happen
[potential “sequel” where Kai teams up with a living morro or something and goes after them again, he would also get a redemption arc]

White
Quick ficlet that's been running around in my head for a while. Cross posted on ffn.net.
-------------
Gene's wings blend in perfectly with the dark colors of Darkley's School for Bad Boys. "My parents are high-ranking members of a biker gang," he brags. The proof is there for everyone to see, too. Green and charcoal splatter across the top of his coverts, joined by the little patches of color from his large circle of adopted aunts and uncles and cousins.
Brad's wings have bright silver tips and when his mom brings him a care package, the same bright silver gleams from the soul-feathers mostly hidden near her back. "I never knew my father," he tells Lloyd one night, in a rare moment of vulnerability. "Haha, see? No indigo anywhere here." He unfurls his wings and spins, and the only other color on his feathers is Lloyd's own.
Even Finn, the magician's kid, has acid green feathers scattered throughout his white primaries and secondaries. They glow when he's angry; he says it's a side effect of being created from pure magic. Lloyd doesn't have a problem with that, not really. But the fact remains that even the kid magically spawned on some isolated island has a heart-color brightening his feathers.
And Lloyd? Lloyd's wings are as white as the day he was born. There's not a splotch of heart-color anywhere on them, and he's checked, too, every night before he goes to sleep. White wings are the worst kind. They announce to the whole wide world that nobody has ever loved him: no, not his mom, not his dad, not the friends he's grown up with since forever.
Oh, he remembers his mom. He remembers the wings speckled with gold and purple, folding around him in a gesture of safe. The same wings betraying him, leaving him alone and abandoned on the doorstep of Darkley's. The olive green heart-color never appearing on his own wings, no matter how many times he looked in a mirror.
He doesn't remember his dad. He knows that he left before he was born and that he was the one to paint his mom's feathers in purple. But there's no face to go along with this knowledge- only rumors, stories, and gossip.
It doesn't bother him. Really. If he just ignores the ache in his heart and the repulsed yet pitying looks of his teachers, he can get through his day just fine. Darkley's, however bad it might be, is way better than the outside world.
That's what he thinks for a while, at least. But it can't go on forever, and something inside him snaps as Finn taunts him one too many times over his lack of presents on his birthday. Who needs love when you can have fear instead? he thinks, as he seizes a cloak on his flight out of the building. He slips the fabric over his blank wings, blanketing them in the darkest color there is.
The kids at Darkley's usually have just the one or two heart-colors from their parents. Lloyd's not prepared for the sheer amount of color that almost everyone has on their wings. He wanders, wide-eyed, for several hours in the village outside his school. Then his head kicks in and he shoves his heart aside. He's out here for a reason. He's gonna be the greatest villain in Ninjago ever, and then, people will stare at him for something far better than his white wings.
The plan is perfect in his head. The execution, well, not so much. Four ninja drop from the sky and carry him off, kicking and screaming, to their flying ship. Oh, he hates it at first. But the ninja slowly win him over and he starts to think of them as not friends, not yet, but not enemies either.
Kai's flight feathers are painted in gold and blue, but most striking is the large patch of dark red feathers that cover his entire mantle and stretch out to most of his outer coverts. Lloyd doesn't know much about winglore, but Kai tells him that the mantle feathers often represent the protector. The rest of his coverts are specked with a rainbow of colors, but the largest three sections are the colors of the other ninja.
Jay's upper coverts are colored in gray and pale blue. Lloyd catches flashes of color on his inner wings when he's training, but the lightning ninja moves too fast for him to clearly see. The feathers near his left alula are tinted in a maroon that darkens with each passing day and creeps down farther and farther- the same color as the feathers on Kai's back. Cole's, Kai's, and Zane's colors tint the edge of his flight feathers, climbing higher every time Lloyd sees them.
Cole's feathers are dyed in a rich gold and a faded orange, each covering a piece of his wingtips. "The orange used to be brighter than this," Lloyd overhears him telling Jay one night, as he sneaks into the kitchen for a midnight snack. "But she, well, you know. I guess that's why it's my favorite color." Jay's heart-color- a brilliant blue- is the largest of the ninja's colors on his coverts, but the others shine brightly too.
Nya's wings are tapered, built for speed. The secondaries on each side of her back are colored in the same gold and blue on Kai's, and a burnt orange color spreads across her mantle and creeps down to blend with the others. Many spots of different colors speckle her wings, but the biggest of them is the same color as Jay's that takes up a whole four feathers on her coverts.
Like Lloyd, Zane's feathers are almost completely white. A sea green colors the secondaries of his right wing, but slowly spreading across his wingtips are the colors of the other ninja. Something about the ice ninja draws Lloyd to him. They sit together in the crow's nest for hours at end, Lloyd talking and Zane listening, and something clicks into place for him. It isn't long before Lloyd sees his own green appear on his alula.
And Lloyd checks his wings every night, when he's alone, and he doesn't have to hide. And every night he's met with the same image- blank wings meeting his blank stare that doesn't, can't understand what's so unloveable about him that he still has no heart-colors.
He looses his cloak when the serpentine capture him. It's unnerving. He been with it so long that he feels naked and vulnerable without it's weight, but the snakes seem not to know or care about the human's winglore. Cramped within the metal cage, his wings grow dusty and ragged. Broken feathers hang from their shafts, bent at odd angles where they get stuck between the bars of his cage. His skin itches much the same way it did when he had to get out of Darkley's, but this time it's much worse and worst of all, there's no escape he can see for him anytime soon.
Lloyd's not sure what to think when he sees the dark man inside the Fire Temple. The tingling in his coverts surges as they lock eyes, and Lloyd is left gasping, but the moment passes and he's tugged away as Pythor tries to flee the volcano.
The man chases after them. He throws snake after snake over the edge into the lava. He fights whole groups of them at a time, winning every match. His eyes never leave Lloyd. Lloyd's throat feels dry. Is this-?
But his thought never gets to finish. Pythor jerks the cage on its hook and the door flies open and Lloyd falls.
He screams. His wings flare, but they are too damaged, too weak from the long term of disuse to be helpful. He crashes into rock.
He's not sure how long he stays that way, only that suddenly a presence is at his side and helping him to his feet. Lloyd stands up and it's Kai, face flushed and hair spikes dropping into his face and the gold on his wings arching in a protective stance above him reflecting the glowing magma below.
They escape somehow. Lloyd doesn't know how. But they're back on the flying ship and Kai is getting congratulated by the ninja and the dark man is still watching him. Lloyd gulps. He's been waiting for this moment all his life, but now that it's here, he doesn't know what to do.
"Hello."
The room goes silent. The dark man still watches him. Lloyd takes a breath and starts again.
"Are you my father?"
He doesn't know what he wants the answer to be. Or, at least, he doesn't think he does. But when the dark man nods, slowly, like he isn't sure himself, something breaks inside Lloyd and he covers the distance between the two of them and flings his arms around his waist. Garmadon stiffens. Lloyd feels tears breaking at the corners of his eyes.
"Why?" he whispers, and in that one question there hide so many more. Fingers card through his hair. Lloyd chokes on his sob.
"I'm sorry, Lloyd," Garmadon says, and like the question before, it holds more words than were spoken. His voice is low and rough. It's just how Lloyd imagined it.
"Lloyd," he says again, "I've missed so much. I did not know I had a son, but now that I have you, I am never letting go." Crimson eyes stare into crimson. And Lloyd feels the same shiver from earlier crawling down his spine.
He breaks away abruptly. Is this-? He hardly dares to hope. Not caring what anyone else might think, he stretches out his wings, displaying the vulnerable inner feathers, and brings them around so he can see. Lloyd scrubs at his wing. The soot falls off, the dust and the ashes, and there.
His fingers stutter over the inner coverts of his left wing, over the deep purple coloring the unkempt feathers. His mouth opens; no words come out. Something taps his shoulder; he looks around to see Kai.
"Over here, silly. I know you must have felt it earlier, and I've gotta say, you couldn't ask for a better mantle cover." He grins, easy and cocky but there's something else in his eyes, something more vulnerable.
Lloyd twists his neck. There, just out of the corner of his eye, he sees a flash of burnt orange. His heart definitively skips a beat this time. Two heart-colors in one day, after a lifetime of no color. He keeps staring, looking back and forth between the two.
"You're acting like you've never seen a heart-color before," scoffs Kai. He's scuffing the toe of his boot against the deck floor.
Lloyd only nods dumbly.
Kai's face morphs into poorly disguised horror. "Wait a minute. What did they do to you at that bad boy's school? They don't paint your wings black, do they?" he asks, like having black wings is the worst thing he can imagine.
Lloyd laughs at that. It's kinda breathless, kinda sardonic, all around astonished.
"No," he says. "No, not black."

Evil Zane Fanfic (Part 1)
Prologue and Chapter 1
For @valerei but also for the fandom who loves Ninjago and the concept of Evil Zane. More to come!
Prologue
A computer’s hard drive is dependent on every single part working together to achieve power and stability. Then the software delivers an elaborate code that determines the purpose of the programming which gives the computer “life”. Within the “life” of the computer comes possibility. But the possibility is bound by one string: motive.
Robots, as more humanized computers, have achieved a greater purpose in Ninjago than arguably the standardized computers. Assistant Lifeforms have provided aid through their motive of assistance. Small mechanical robots provide an unbeatable work ethic with their motive of work. Nindroids destroyed New Ninjago City, attacked civilians, and brought fear across Ninjago with their motive of following direct orders from the Digital OverBorg. And the first known android, deemed “Nindroid” from its, or his, friend, protects the people and peace of Ninjago because of a simple motive- “to protect those who cannot protect themselves.”
For years, decades even, the young-looking android had followed his motive directly until it drove his hardware to the grave.
However, the software remained in a digital state, letting the robot be reborn in a new body. The software was scrambled but fixable, the code still in effect. The motive of the nindroid still was bound to his possibility…but something-someONE- was after it. With no motive, there is no possibility.
But with a new motive…. comes new possibility.
  Chapter 1
“Kai- look out!”
Kai swerved his elemental dragon to the left to dodge a cannon ball that soared right past him. He steadied the dragon and peered up at Cole. “Thanks for the warning! That came out of nowhere.”
Cole chuckled as Jay let out another huge sneeze causing his dragon to spew sparks. The water dragon drew back from the sparks, but then flew in close. “Do you feel worse?” Nya called out to her boyfriend.
Jay wiped his nose with his mask. “No, I’m fine.” Jay weakly responded, his voice tight and clogged.
“You probably have a cold, Jay,” Zane remarked, flying a little distance away. “You need to-“
“I’m fine, shiny,” Jay snapped back. “The mission is too important.”
With that, another explosion came from under them and Cole easily dodged a speeding cannonball.
“Jay’s right,” The ex-ghost ninja proclaimed. “We can’t let those thieves get away with their bounty!”
“And Lloyd!” Kai added, his fist on fire.
Earlier that week, the ninja got word that a gang of criminals had escaped Kryptarium Prison led by no other than the Mechanic. They had all gunned for the ninja, but the Mechanic had special interest in the green ninja. They had set a trap at the Ninjago City Bank, activating security, winning the attention of the ninja, and then capturing Lloyd with vengestone. The ninja had tracked the crooks to a rocky terrain where they were currently speeding away shooting cannonballs at the ninja. Lloyd, in vengestone crafted handcuffs, was located in the first car’s passenger seat- side by side the Mechanic.
“Alright team,” Cole directed as substitute leader, “We know the battle plan. Overthrow the vehicles and extract Lloyd. Kai, be careful with your flames and the cars. Nya, don’t get the terrain wet, we don’t want any slipping on these cliffs. Jay, take it easy. And try not to sneeze. Zane, you take the lead car. I’ll fly ahead and make a wall to cut them off. Watch each others backs!” Cole commanded before speeding ahead.
Nya glanced at Kai. “He makes a pretty good battle plan.” She remarked. Kai shrugged before leading the dive.
The four ninja dove towards the line of weaponized cars that sped off across the rocky cliffs. Explosion after explosion rocked the terrain but the ninja were ready to attack. Kai and Jay landed on the last car, Nya on the middle, and Zane on the front.
“It’s the nindroid!” The Mechanic roared. Zane put up his fists, ready to fight. “Leave ‘im as unharmed as possible boys…I want a few spare parts.” The mechanic sneered as the crooks cracked their knuckles.
“Cracking knuckles is actually bad for your finger bones,” Zane commented. One of the men opened his mouth to beg to differ but Zane was too quick. He kicked the guy off the car and turned to the rest.
Nya landed softly on car two and swiftly punched two unexpected crooks off the car. With a quick spurt of water the third crook-who was a nindroid in a undercover sweatshirt- flew straight off the cliff. “Whoops,” Nya whispered before turning to deal with the driver.
“A pajama woman!” Cried out Captain Soto as he waved his hook in the air while driving. “How dare ye plunder my mechanical vessel!”
“Soto?!” Nya cried out. She hesitated, remembering when he was an ally against Nadakhan. But then again, that timeline never existed so technically he was never an ally. Nya sighed, sad to hurt an out-of-time friend. “Sorry Soto, wish we could be friends!” She kicked the ancient pirate out of the seat and took over as driver. She placed her hand on her right ear, activating her fabricated communication device. “Middle car has been overthrown. Kai, Jay, what is your status?”
“Not good!” Kai screamed in response as a bearded criminal clicked the safety off on his revolver. Jay was not the best partner, for his punches were weak and his actions were dizzied. Kai had thrown off three men but including the driver they had to deal with four more. Kai had to worry more about sick Jay then his own safety.
The bearded crook lifted his gun to level with Kai’s head. “Any last words, red head?” he smirked, ready to fire.
“How about Ninja-GOO!” Kai yelled before disappearing into his spinjitzu tornado.
The bearded man screamed as the tornado flung him off the car. Kai managed to knock off two others before spinning to a stop. Kai glanced back at the criminals rolling in the dust behind the car. “Why does everyone assume I’m a red head?” Kai pondered before turning to the blue ninja.
Jay and the last criminal were hand in hand, struggling on top of the moving car. Jay, dizzied by the movement, was weak in his struggling, causing the young criminal to back him up toward the edge of the car.
Jay sniffled, his head screaming in pain. “You are…really strong….”Jay wheezed. The criminal laughed. “Someone seems a little under-the-weather!” He laughed, ready to push the ninja off the car.
Jay laughed weakly. “Ha ha…that’s..fu- uh-uh-ahCHOO!” Jay sneezed, sending a surge of lightning through his opponents’ body. The man screamed and collapsed off the car, almost taking Jay with him. Kai snatched Jay at the last second.
“Thanks…Kai,” Jay coughed. Kai placed Jay down and quickly clicked a seatbelt on him. “Stay here,” Kai directed. “You’re too sick to fight.”
Jay nodded before feverishly rambling about water. Kai shook his head and turned to deal with the driver.
Cole eyed the first car as it slid around the corner a mile or so away. At the top of the peak, Cole saw the titanium ninja easily holding off the many men on the lead car. Lloyd was still gagged and handcuffed in the passenger seat with the Mechanic was at the wheel.
Cole lifted his fists as he caused massive rocks and boulders to climb from out of the ground right behind  him. He kept his power going until the rock wall lifted for a few dozen feet high. He dropped his fists and clapped the dust off of his hands.
Zane swung the last thief off the car as the ground shook. The robot turned and watched the rock wall grow only hundreds of feet in front of him. The Mechanic slammed his fist on the wheel and screamed in rage for he knew he was defeated. “You nasty ninja!” He screamed, turning to the metal android. “You wanna play dirty, then I’ll play dirty too!” The mechanic lifted his foot and before Zane to react he kicked Lloyd straight out of the car and off the cliff.
“NO!” Zane bellowed and then lunged off the car after him. He rolled in the dirt causing a cloud of dust, but Zane wasn’t fazed. He peered over the edge.
“Zane!” Lloyd screamed. The red bandana fluttered in the breeze, undone from the sudden movement, but it had miles down to travel before touching the ground. The bandana would be fine, but Lloyd would not.
The handcuffs had snagged a ledge just an arm reach away from the top of the cliff. Lloyd dangled helplessly for if he fell, the vengestone would not let him create his dragon. “Zane!” Lloyd screamed again, his green eyes bulging with pain.
Lloyd stared at the glittering robot that was staring back at him. The robot fell on his stomach and extended his arm to grab the chains.
But then he stopped. The robotic arm went stiff, and Zane glared transfixed on the green ninja.
“Zane, what are you doing?!” Lloyd gasped, his wrists exploding with pain. The robot just stared back with an empty expression.
The ledge cracked under the weight of the handcuffed ninja and Lloyd screeched. Lloyd still hung vulnerably in the air, seconds away from falling to his death. “ZANE!!” Lloyd yelled, tears starting to stream from his eyes. “ZANE, HELP ME!!!”
All Zane did was cock his head a little, his blue eyes flickering as if his battery was dying.
Lloyd stared at his friend as the ledge broke into pieces.
Nya watched as Lloyd slid off the cliff and Zane lunge after him. “Zane’s got him,” Nya murmured to herself as she stepped harder on the gas pedal in pursuit of the Mechanic.
Kai and the driver struggled with the wheel but Kai had enough control to dodge Zane who was lying next to the cliff. Kai, who had more important things to worry about, didn’t think twice about Zane.
Cole watched Lloyd fly out of the car and Zane jump after him. Cole tensed, ready to run to help, but then paused. The Mechanic was headed right to him, and was that a rocket launcher?
“Zane, I’ve detected an unknown virus in your-“ P.I.X.A.L. chimed in, her voice synthesized with worry.
“Not now!” Zane interrupted as he lunged toward Lloyd as he slid off the edge.
The ledge broke, and Lloyd screamed his friends name one more time as his body jerked downward.
And then stopped moving.
Immense pain shot through his wrists as Zane caught the handcuffs. “Lloyd?” Zane asked, looking down at the now-injured ninja.
“Who else?” Lloyd gasped as Zane dragged him back on top of the cliff. “What happened?”
Zane stared at Lloyd. “What do you mean?”
Lloyd cradled his wrists. “You froze, like you didn’t recognize me or you…didn’t want to save me.”
Zane lost eye contact for a second. “I have…no recollection of that. I reached down, the ledge broke, and I caught you.”
Lloyd shook his head and opened his head to speak but he was interrupted by an eruption and a giant quake down the road.
Kai took control of the vehicle as the rock wall ahead of him burst apart. He slammed on the breaks and skidded to a stop. Jay made a disgusted sound, then turned and threw up over the side of the car.
Cole saw the rocket fire straight over his head. Without thinking twice he hurled himself over the edge of the cliff as the wall exploded behind him. He powered up his dragon and swooped upwards, but there was something there to meet him.
A boulder, a basketball sized chunk of rock from the rockwall, slammed into his head knocking the earth ninja unconscious. The dragon blinked away with Cole’s consciousness and the ninja dropped like a stone.
Nya saw and felt the wall explode and watched Cole jump to safety. But she saw the boulder and she saw Cole get hit.
She instantly hopped out of her seat and jumped after Cole, her water dragon activated. Within seconds her dragon had caught Cole and turned back to the rest of the team.
The team was hit badly. Zane was wrapping Lloyd’s broken wrists while Nya was re-hydrating Jay. Kai sat next to Cole, who was clutching his head and groaning.
“The Mechanic got away,” Kai pointed out, but nobody responded or even acknowledged that he had said something. He sighed, leaned back, and waited for the Destiny’s Bounty to find them.

The Purge franchise is a strange beast. The series started out in 2013 as home-invasion horror, but rapidly realized its potential for sociopolitical commentary. By its third installment in 2016 (unsubtly subtitled Election Year), it featured a bleeding-heart Purge-resistance blonde woman politician being hunted by the cult-like old, white men of the New Founding Fathers party, while out on the streets people of color defended their homes and lives from marauding bands of bloodthirsty thrill seekers.
Now, with its latest film, a prequel called The First Purge, the series has crossed over fully into social horror, albeit a particularly loud and violent strain. (The films also act as a sort of backdoor pilot to an upcoming 10-part Purge TV series, slated for September release and set somewhere in the middle of the films’ chronology.)
The First Purge foregrounds what the other installments have kept in the middle distance: that the Purge — a 12-hour period in which (nearly) all crime is legal, including murder — was set up by the New Founding Fathers political party not to give people a catharsis for their violent tendencies, but to eliminate the poorer classes, who cause a strain on the government’s resources (and thus also the more well-off). Conveniently for them, this also includes many people of color.
That’s been part of the Purge mythology since at least the second movie, so it’s not much of a spoiler. The task for The First Purge is to find a way to dramatize how this all came about.
The result is a very consciously woke horror movie (Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” often associated with the Black Lives Matter movement, plays over the final credits) stuffed with think piece potential and poised, like its predecessors, to be a big box-office hit.
It knows what year it’s coming out — on July 4, no less — and it’s slamming on every hot button it can find. That might be cathartic. It might also be turning pain into entertainment. With The First Purge, your mileage may vary.

Lex Scott Davis leads a talented cast in The First Purge. Universal Pictures
The First Purge kicks off with newsreel footage from our real world showing unrest and protests over inequality, racial violence, and everything else you can’t escape outside the movie theater’s walls. But it soon gives way to the Purge universe, in which a group called the “New Founding Fathers,” a.k.a. NFFs — a political alternative to both the Democratic and Republican parties — was elected on the basis that they will make America a “nation reborn.”
How? They’re going to test-drive a social experiment on Staten Island (my New York-based screening let out a lot of guffaws right then) in which all crime will be legal for 12 hours — including murder.
That very emphatic clause, “including murder,” has lingered suggestively on the tail of every explanation of the Purge rules throughout the series, and The First Purge’s real aim is to show why. Murder is what the NFFs want. Murder, they assume, is what most people will want to do, given all of the rage and hatred they have stored up from being insulted and kicked around and made to feel less-than for so long.
To that end, the NFFs are also offering a kind of stipend to people who agree to stay on Staten Island for the experiment and submit to a psychological profile before and after (should they survive, of course). Participants wear a pair of glowing contact lenses that record their activity and beam it up to people watching in the control towers. And, in a grisly gamification, their post-Experiment payments will correspond to how much purging activity they engage in.
The film follows a group of residents of one of the housing projects targeted by the NFF — a gang, led by D’mitri (Y’lan Noel); his former girlfriend Nya (Lex Scott Davis) and her teenage brother Isaiah (Joivan Wade); their neighbor Luisa (Luna Lauren Velez) and her daughter Selina (Kristen Solis); and another wisecracking neighbor, Dolores (Mugga). There’s also an extremely creepy junkie with scars carved into his face who goes by Skeletor (Rotimi Paul) and a coterie of neighborhood people.

Masterminding the whole plot is the NFF president’s chief of staff, Arlo Sabian (Patch Darragh) and Dr. May Updale (Marisa Tomei), who masterminded the experiment for what she insists are nonpolitical reasons. It will perhaps not surprise you to discover that there are sinister forces at play.
What they discover is that people don’t act during the experiment exactly as science and simulations suggest they will. So some rejiggering is in order if the NFF’s plan is to succeed.
While some of the Purge movies have been unexpectedly good, not just as horror-thrillers but as movies, this is not one of them. It’s a still-rare showcase for a raft of talented black actors, as well as up-and-coming black director Gerard McMurray. But the screenplay for The First Purge, by franchise creator James DeMonaco, is not quite imaginative enough to keep from getting monotonous after a while.
We more or less know where this is going. And some of its dialogue (particularly, for no clear reason, the lines Tomei is obliged to deliver) is eye-rollingly bad. There’s no reason it had to be that way, and it drags the film down distractingly.
But that isn’t to say The First Purge isn’t effective; it undeniably succeeds in making you feel bad, which is exactly what it’s after. It’s loud and violent and creepy and queasy. (A warning: There’s a long sequence with a very bright blinking light that may be a problem for some people with photosensitivity.)
And it is mashing on every trigger it can find to draw an explicit connection to America in 2018. There are people in KKK hoods and neo-Nazis; there’s police brutality; there’s the aforementioned Kendrick track; there’s invasion of sacred spaces by cold-blooded killers; there’s a reference to “pussy-grabbing.”

Y’lan Noel is an action hero in The First Purge. Universal Pictures
All that sucks the audience into the story. It’s the kind of movie people holler and clap during, because it does tap into a cathartic need to see ordinary people sometimes win — the same catharsis that Dr. Updale seems to think the experiment will tap into.
It is, however, the same impulse that the NFF exploits to cover up their much more sinister plans. That “need” for cathartic violence — something the film itself casts doubt upon — is a tool, in the end, to help the powerful to get their way.
And even though by the end of The First Purge the film is transformed into an uneasy triumph for at least some of the people the NFF was hoping to put down, we know where this goes: By the next film in the timeline, the Purge has become something people expect and live with.
All this had me thinking about another series that navigated a dystopic mash-up of violence and entertainment: the Hunger Games, where people watch children kill one another for sport and, more importantly, as a way for the government to exert its hold on the populace. That series sucked the audience in, too, but with an overwhelming sense of sadness and anger at the real perpetrators.
It’s not a one-to-one analog, but it did leave me uneasy about how The First Purge ends, and how the series slides into catharsis over and over. It’s part of the genre, sure. But with violence to real humans so easy to see on the real news — a shooting in a newsroom, a shooting in a school, black people shot and smothered for no reason — I can’t quite shake the feeling that something is just off about the Purge series’ attempt at political literalism combined with dying citizens, recontextualized as a social experiment.
But honestly, I could be wrong. The series could be more of a party than a parable. Maybe it serves as a jolt and a warning to us about what happens when we stop respecting the humanity of individual people and start thinking of them as social problems to be fixed.
I’m just not convinced the Purge series, no matter how woke it gets, is aware of what it’s really doing when it piles so much of our present into its alternate, crueler universe. Hamfisted times call for hamfisted measures, to be sure. But that’s a dangerous game to play.
The First Purge opens in theaters on July 4.
