2017 fandom recap
Fandom-wise this year has been incredible for me, so here’s a “small” recap, mostly for myself:
18 (holy shit) new fics posted on ao3 this year. Three of them passed the astonishing, magical 1K kudos bar, and two are hovering over 900 as well.
measured in kudos, my most popular 2017 fic was Bitch better have my wedding ring, followed by Moosebumps. Moosebumps def got the most attention, though.
got my fic Until You Wear a Groove in the World printed in a book (!!!!!!), the Not Without You Anthology, and I’m so humbled and happy by all the love the book got. I also participated the NWY panel and table in Washington D.C. AwesomeCon in June, and met some amazing people thanks to it.
one of my fics was podficced (!!!), which was one of the highlights of my fandom year.
Side bitch out of your league passed 3K kudos, about which I’m still kind of screaming.
participated in three bangs - Cap Reverse Bang for which I wrote two fics, Stucky Big Bang for which I did five pieces of art in total, and Marvel bang in collaboration with the loveliest @artgroves, plus I offered works for auction in Fandom Loves Puerto Rico charity auction. I’m also currently doing MCU kink bingo and Shrunkyclunks bang.
made a bunch of art, some of it I’m even pleased with.
met with several AMAZING fandom people IRL in London, Helsinki, and U.S. - @thelittleblackfox, @misspaperjoker, @starandshield, @silentwalrus1, @dorkbait, @jukebox-head, @kurozawa46 come to mind first and foremost because my memory is bad, plus some who don’t have tumblr / whose tumblr handles I don’t know. I had a blast meeting you all, and can’t wait to see you again in 2018!
met an astonishing number of talented, lovely people online, esp in RBB slack channel - you know who you are, lots of hugs to all of you!
I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten something, but let’s go with these.
So now that the year is coming to an end, I want to thank everybody who read my fics, liked my posts, reblogged my stuff, left me kudos and amazing comments, enabled me, supported me, listened to me yowl about life and make shitty jokes, and generally interacted with me this year. You’re all awesome.
In 2018 I strive to become a better writer, meet friends old and new, develop as an artist, and participate in Reverse Bang and Cap Big Bang (so far / at least).
Happy New Year, everybody! Let’s make 2018 a good one, and pray that no moose cross Bucky’s path this year.
xoxo, Roh

Thought I’d share my different concept sketches that were considered for the @notwithoutyoufanbook cover art! The process reminded me of my art school assignments... providing “discussion roughs” for critique... but this was a helluva lot more fun, lol, and @starandshield was great to get feedback from! :) We ended up choosing the top concept to go forward with and I’m pretty proud of the final design (x). It was a lot of work, but I would’ve absolutely regretted passing up such a commission!
(My Art /// My Marvel Art) *Please don’t repost(?) or use my art elsewhere without my permission, and don’t delete my captions, thanks!

I never did get around to posting the second piece I did for the NWY Anthology, but hey, TIMEY-WIMEY SHENANIGANS are so much more apropos now...
Art for Out of Time by Stripyjamjar (Stucky, Time Travel)
“It’s 2016.” Bucky didn’t break his step but he did breathe in rather sharply. “That’s seventy-three years away.” Seventy years, Steve thought grimly, since you died.
read the fic

NWY backer ficlet #1
I wrote altogether seven ficlets for Not Without You Anthology backers earlier this year. One of them I posted (expanded) as Brunch brunch baby, and two are under edits for expansion, but the rest I’m gonna dump here.
“I made you a sweater,” Bucky says as he materializes next to the couch and dumps something light and blue on Steve’s head.
Steve flails a little, taken by surprise, until he can untangle the warm fabric on his face, put his book down, and take a look. It’s a thin cable-knit sweater in a really nice shade of blue, and the yarn is incredibly soft when Steve pets it a little.
“What’s this, Buck?” he asks, fascinated by the fluffiness of the yarn.
“Sweater,” Bucky grunts and stalks to the armchair, curling up in it, hackles raised like an angry cat. He’s been skittish and in a bad mood lately, avoiding Steve and keeping to his room, where he’s undoubtedly been knitting this whole time. Bucky has his ups and downs, and Steve’s used to giving him space, but crafting is a new and not unwelcome development.
“It’s early June,” Steve says, still petting the knit. “It’s not exactly sweater weather.”
“If you don’t like it, you can just say so,” Bucky snaps, leaps up from the armchair and tries to snag the sweater back, but Steve pulls it away before he can grab it and go back to his room. Bucky looks pissed off, but there’s genuine upset in the downturned curve of his mouth, and Steve realizes he’s been kind of a tool.
“Hey, hey, Bucky,” Steve says, tucking the sweater between himself and the back of the couch and taking Bucky’s hand. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound like that.”
Bucky looks down and away, his body tight and coiled like a spring, but he doesn’t shake Steve’s loose hold off.
“It’s really nice, baby,” Steve says softly, sincerely, and scoots back a little so that he can gently tug Bucky to sit in the vee of his legs. Bucky comes easily enough so that Steve knows the closeness isn’t unwelcome. When Steve carefully wraps his arms around Bucky and pulls him against his chest, it’s like flipping a switch: all tension goes out of Bucky’s body, and he sags back, tired and pliant, feeling small and vulnerable in Steve’s arms.
Steve kisses the crown of Bucky’s head, inhaling the familiar smell of his shampoo. Up close the shadows under Bucky’s eyes are deep and livid like bruises, like he hasn’t slept in days, and Steve’s heart breaks a little at the thought of him sitting in his room, knitting away the dark hours of the night. “Thank you, I love it.”
“It’s baby alpaca,” Bucky mumbles and burrows closer, tucking his head under Steve’s chin. He’s starting to slur a little, drifting towards sleep. “Liked the color.”
Steve squeezes Bucky a little, kisses his hair again, and settles in for a nap.

After months keeping this under wraps I can finally share “Catharsis” by Jessie Lucid, one of the drawings I made for the new book ‘Not Without You-A Stucky Anthology’. Due to a huge demand you can buy a digital copy through THURSDAY 4/27. After that limited physical copies will be available from participating artists. Find the link to order @notwithoutyoufanbook . This illustration was created for the @hitlikehammers fic 'Night Shade’. Look close and you will get a hint about the plot!

Ha, finished the the shorter one of the temporary amnesia fics, while accidentally channeling Hemingway with the “write drunk (I have wine), edit sober (which I will do)” thing.
Kind of unfortunate, since my experience with Hemingway is two books, one that left no impression whatsoever (it was The Old Man and the Sea, very short so I finished it and promptly took to our exchange library at work, and one of my coworkers came and asked me about it, since I’m the widely read one [true], and I had to confess I put it there and still had no opinion:D) and the other (A Farewell to Arms) made me yell “what is this privileged man bullshit, also did you even have an editor???!!!” and swear to never touch another work by Hemingway again. The only redeeming feature that book has is that there is a very good quote (in isolation), that’s perfect for Steve, “You are so brave and quiet I forget you are suffering.” There happily are gifsets with it, I should go hunt one down and stick it into my queue.
Anyway, did you know that I get rambley (even more than usual) if I’ve had a few drinks:D I’ll post the story either next weekend or the one after that, depending on how my life schedule works out.
Also I got my Not Without You package, which is delightful altogether, it was nice to get it all in a single haul, benefits to living outside US, even if I had to wait longer than some others for it. I’ve not read that many works written for it, even if they’ve made it to AO3, I like having them new as I read the book (I also didn’t read the PDF when it was posted, sometimes the amount of patience I have really surprises me). Also the art looks great, and the book in general is wonderful. As well as all the rest of the stuff that came with it.
Tumblr media
As you can see, I’ve got two copies of the book, I’ll make a giveaway with the other one sometime this fall. Someone remind me of it if it gets to November and I haven’t done it...
I’ve already put the bookmark in use, it’ll improve my reading experience by variable amounts, depending on how much I like the book (right now it sits inside The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood, so it should be altogether a good experience. And I just got a new canvas shoulder bag, I think I’ll stitch the super adorable patch on it.
