Oooiih...... I'm nakeeddddddd!!! ----Now that I have your attention---- When you see a nursing mom, think," God Bless Her For Nursing Her Baby". Here's Why- Not too long ago white women capitalized on her breast milk. Instead of feeding her baby, she was forced to allow her master's mistress, suckle on her breast till the baby was milk wasted'! And to add insult to injury, being a "mammy" made it more difficult for them to bond with their children, who were often separated from them for prolonged periods so that they could focus on servicing white children instead. The echoes of slave women being forced to give up their milk still resounded. And black women didn’t talk to their sisters, daughters and granddaughters about how to feed their babies; the bottle was just assumed. And for some women, breast-feeding was a ‘white thing.’ #Mecy🙏🏾 So yeah, HELP stop the spread of systemic racism by giving affirmations to a black mom for nursing her baby instead of dishing a side eye! She's been through enough already. Thank you and bye-bye! This Day in History: Jane Kendeigh, flight nurse
On this day in 1945, a flight nurse lands at Okinawa. Jane Louise “Candy” Kendeigh had already made history just one month earlier when she made a similar landing at Iwo Jima.
Kendeigh was the first Navy flight nurse to land in an active Pacific combat zone.
The young nurse had gone through intensive training before she was dispatched to the Pacific. That training was no picnic, covering everything from first aid to the effect of high altitudes on concussions and other wounds. She and other nurses were taught how to fight in hand-to-hand combat on the ground, if needed. They learned how to handle a crash landing in the water.
It wasn’t enough to survive and to know how to swim. Flight nurses had to demonstrate endurance, speed, and the ability to tow a victim for a specified distance.
Kendeigh was then just a 22-year-old woman. A press release would describe her as “108 pounds of green-eyed charm and efficiency,” but she must have been tough. She was among the first of the Navy nurses to finish flight training and travel to the Pacific.
Her actions on March 6, 1945, would go down in history.

FNIHB and CNA Nursing Portal
MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates 2003 - 2006
For many years, MDA was involved in developing a portal website to help nurses with various things related to nursing. The site was first developed for the First Nation Inuit Health Branch and had to be designed using strict federal government guidelines known as the "common look and feel" or, CLF 1.1. At the time, this meant working with only the 256 web-safe colours. When the Canadian Nursing Association was brought into the project, the CLF guidelines were relaxed and the site's mock-ups were given a more finessed look.
During the years I spent working on this project, much of my time was spent on research and development, working directly with nursing consultants as the site was put together.
The site now exists as NurseOne and is no longer being developed by MDA.
The Problem Design a portal type website used to help connect nurses in remote locations while strictly adhering to the Canadian Governments CLF 1.1.

On Monday, May 7, Mickey and Minnie Mouse will welcome thousands of very special visitors—nurses– to Disneyland California when Cherokee Uniforms, along with Scrubs Magazine and sponsors Wanderly Nurses, Emerald Health Services and Littmann Stethoscopes, celebrate National Nurses Week at “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
This year, Cherokee and ScrubsMag will show their appreciation for nurses with a day of fun, friendship and carefree experiences at the famed Anaheim park. RN Kelley Johnson, who is also Miss California USA 2018 and representing California in the Miss USA competition on May 21, will be the onsite host for the event which will feature 50 Cherokee Brand Ambassadors, aka Nurseonalities.
A Nurseonality is a “wisdom-filled caregiver with a huge heart and a big smile,” according to the Facebook group Nurseonality. ScrubsMag regularly spotlights its Nurseonalities as a way of honoring nurses all the time, not just during Nurses Week.
Mike Singer, Chairman and CEO of Strategic Partners, Inc., the manufacturer of Cherokee and other well-known medical apparel brands, also will be at the Park to meet nurses and to help celebrate and show his support for the incredible work nurses do.
“I’m excited to spend the day with so many dedicated professionals who make a difference in people’s lives every day,” said Singer. “Nurses make others smile through the most difficult times, and it is rewarding and gratifying for me to be a part of this event that will bring happiness to them during this special week.”
Scrubsmag is thrilled that so many nurses have responded to our Facebook and social media pages promoting #NursesTakeDisneyland and is looking forward to a big turnout.
A U.S. President Fuels the Momentum behind #NursesTakeDisneyland National Nurses Week, which runs from May 6 to May 12, began in 1982 when President Ronald Reagan, after advocation from the American Nurses Association, signed a proclamation declaring that May 6 would be National Recognition Day for nurses. In 1990, the ANA expanded the day into an entire week honoring nurses, concluding the week-long celebration on May 12—Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
President Reagan’s advocacy for nurses had a significant impact on CEO Mike Singer. In fact, Singer met the President while he was in office, inspiring his lifetime of dedication and commitment to nurses. This respect and honor for those in the medical field remains a critical component not only of National Nurses Week, but of the mission of Strategic Partners, as well.
Companies Coming Together to Honor Nurses Sponsors for the #NursesTakeDisneyland event include Wanderly Nurses, Emerald Health Services, and Littmann Stethoscopes.
Wanderly is dedicated to finding travel jobs from leading agencies for nurses; Emerald Health Services is another leading agency that exists to help nurses find jobs they love. Littmann Stethoscopes is the leading manufacturer of the world’s finest stethoscopes for medical professionals. Each company is fully committed to supporting nurses not just through National Nurses Week, but every single day of each year.
This event for nurses at Disneyland is an historic event that’s never been done before, and we can’t wait to celebrate National Nurses Week at The Happiest Place on Earth with some of the greatest nurses on Earth! Be sure to follow #NursesTakeDisneyland throughout the day for updates and photos.

Welcome, Bienvenidos☺️💃🏾! My name is Georgina but I mostly go by Georgie! I am a first generation college student and also the first in my family to pursue a degree in healthcare. Throughout my road to nursing, there were no easy shortcuts for landing my program, no secret hand book on how to survive moving across country, and definitely no survival guide on how to keep my cool in the face of adversity. The truth is… I got my ass kicked. BUT, I did it with a fight (a myriad of laughs and cries), tons of late night 🌮 🌮and 🍪and a relentless support system. I SURVIVED and you will too 🙌🏾! Nursing or not, I wanted to create a platform where I can empower and inspire more diversity in the field and spread a LOT of love along the way 💌So thank you in advance for following and stay tuned for more of what got me through la locura 😅! Peace and love,
Soon-to-be Nurse Georgie

This Day in History: Ann Bernatitus, Navy Nurse
On this day in 2003, Ann Agnes Bernatitus passes away. She is remembered for being the first person in the United States Navy to receive the Legion of Merit. Bernatitus served our country as a Navy Nurse in the months immediately following Pearl Harbor.
“I always wanted to be a nurse,” she explained. “There was nothing else for girls to do in those days but be a school teacher or a nurse.” She began her training in 1931, and she joined the Navy Nurse Corps in 1936.
She was serving in the Philippines by the summer of 1940. Her assignment in the Philippines had been a nice one—a “choice assignment for nurses looking for adventure on a two-year tour of duty,” as the National WWII Museum describes it. That would quickly change. Japanese bombers came for the Philippines within hours of the Pearl Harbor attack.
Bernatitus had been serving at the Naval Hospital in Canacao, but it was soon necessary to evacuate to Manila. Just a few weeks later, her team was evacuated—again—to Bataan. Mere days before Bataan fell, she was moved to the small island of Corregidor in Manila Bay.
Those weeks were challenging, to say the least.

This Day in History: Regina Benson, WWII Nurse
On this day in 2020, former Army nurse Regina Benson is honored with the Angel of Honor Award at the 14th annual Angels of the Battlefield Awards. Today, Benson is 101 years old and the oldest female World War II veteran living in Virginia.
In many ways, Benson’s award reflects the hard work of so many in the Greatest Generation. Countless nurses, medics, corpsmen, pararescuemen, and doctors served our country in World War II. They did it knowing that their service would remain mostly anonymous. Few would ever know the details of the efforts they made.
These medical personnel served anyway. They did it for love of country—and perhaps because they understood that freedom must be fought for and defended at every step.
“I accept this award not for myself but on behalf of all the medical personnel who served in World War II,” Benson said last year. “None of us deserved medals. We just did what millions of Americans did. We worked together, fought together and served together for our nation and for our freedom. It was a unique time of American unity and spirit that sadly may never be equaled again.”
Benson served in the Army Nurse Corps from September 1944 until April 1946, including in the Battle of Okinawa. Needless to say, she had her share of harrowing experiences.
The story continues at the link in the comments.
