We've been made aware of concerns about yokai.com's as a source for youkai lore, namely about the site's owner and his credibility.

The owner of yokai.com is a Japanese-based white man named Matthew Meyer. I have reason to believe that he's well-studied on the subject, as he lists numerous Japanese sources in his books and has been doing this longer than I've been a regular on the internet.

There's surely good basis on research in the mythology here, but you shouldn't regard them as a hard canon on Japanese myth.

yokai.com will still be listed here as it's still the most reputable and easiest online compendium we can find in English. At the very least, you can treat it as a jumping pad from which to pick your youkai. Its only place here is for reference.

If you are concerned about the validity of your youkai, my advice is to do research on it and compare them to other Japanese depictions. (This is something we're doing too on every element in this rp.)

Below the readmore we've provided a few examples. Note that most of them are fandom wikis. Thank you for expressing concerns, and have fun looking at youkai!
