So I got bored last night and since I’ve been rewatching Nurarihyon no Mago i thought it would be fun to make a pair of yokai oc’s 🫣

they’re being nosey b/c Rikuo’s friends came over and they aren’t used to humans hanging around other than Wakana and the short time they knew Yohime.

Other than Nurarihyon, I’ve recently binged the Netflix series Onmyoji and I just adore Mitsumushi and Mitsuya 🤧 these two are inspired by the Onmyoji characters with varying differences other than the wisteria theme and the names.

My OC’s are flower yokai who help out around the Nura Clan estate. Mitsumushi is the one with the more cool-toned palette and the wisteria hair stick. She’s more of the leader between the two, however, she's also the more quiet of the two. She’s 100% silently judging you at all times. However, Mitsumushi does have a kinder side. She seems to favour being around Rikuo, Kubinashi, and Kappa due to their calmer demeanours and is often very kind to them. I imagine Mitsumushi would also grow to tolerate Mezumaru after a while, though dislikes Gozumaru due to his harsher way of speaking.

Mitsuya is the warmer-toned one and is the more chill and laidback one comparatively. Mitsuya is more likely to come up to you and insist that you play matching games with them, they really like shell matching and memory games. Mitsuya is also the more outspoken of the pair. Neither of them really speaks much, but Mitsuya is more likely to actually say something. They’re a very observant yokai and can often tell when someone needs or wants something before they realise it. Feeling hungry? Need a drink? Mitsuya is right there with food and sake for your enjoyment. Because Mitsuya is more laidback, they’re more welcoming to newcomers than Mitsumushi. Mitsuya gets along well with Mezumaru and the other playful yokai because they’re more likely to agree to play games with them. Mitsuya was also more tolerant of Gozumaru compared to their sister, but that isn’t to say that Mitsuya trusts Gozu.

I also imagine Mitsuya is more likely to leave the main house to accompany Rikuo or help out with shopping or something similar; Mitsumushi would rather stay at the main house. In theory, their outfits also mirror this; Mitsuya wears fewer layers and clothes that are easy to move in while Mitsumushi tends to wear nicer clothes with more layers.

Nickname: Enra, Smoke yokai, Smoke demon

Age: 3000+

Main Ability: Creating mini enra, a smoke monster that often came out of her kiseru, manipulating smoke, travel via smoke from burning object.

Bio:

A yokai that often appeared as a smoke. She is a nice girl but she has a pretty sharp tongue, which makes some yokai hate her because they think that she is mean, but in reality she just giving a very constructive yet insulting critics and advices.

Like smoker and their cigar, she never get seperated with her kiseru, but she seems fine smoking with it because she made out of smoke, even her true form is a smoke. She can even made a mini enra (which can turned into Gigachad Enra when angry) from it and usually hide it inside her kimono sleeves

Liena is based on Hagoromo Gitsune/ Yamabuki from Nura rise of the yokai clan. I'm making a story about her on Wattpad. To sum it short she gets reincarnated into a different world which is Lego Monkie kid/ Journey to the West, and wants to be better than her previous life. Since she feels like not Hagoromo or Yamabuki she decides to be her own person.

Personality wise she has Yamabuki's kind demeter but Hagoromo's scary side. Liena still loves her precious yokai even in the new world she is in. At first when she appeared in the Jade Palace/ celestial realm Liena had no memory but slowly she does start to remember her life before.

OC-tober day 14: inspirations

lol outing my old interests, but Xielir is a pretty old OC as well so :3c anyway, I take a lot of inspiration from FFXII, which is still my favorite game of all time lol even though in my own story its barely recognizable from FFXII :p

More notes and thoughts below!

I really loved the magick and summon system in FFXII though, so there's elements of that in my story world. For the scythe I always wanted Xielir to be a scythe wielder, and RWBY's gun scythe was too cool not to take inspiration from.

Top right is Sumiko from Kekkaishi! She's a very minor character that only shows up in like, the last 2 arcs of the story, but the way the manga portrayed her monstrous power and how it disconnects her with her humanity was very cool, very inspiring. I love her characterization and I haven't seen another character like her in other media honestly, but she's cool af

I took inspiration from Shiibashi Hiroshi's artstyle as a whole, especially when it comes to cool looking eyes 😎 I started out with a style much more similar to that of Nurarihyon no Mago's until it started branching off into my own style!

Jingliu is on here bc I didn't know who else to put orz but her backstory as a powerful swordswoman, who mentors students, and then goes insane line up very well with Xielir's own story, although Xielir is much kinder and much more patient to her disciple than Jingliu lol.

Anyway, I guess I could've done more characters, but that would be another text wall so I'll leave you guys with this :ppp

My most recent OCs

The tengu is the only one who dosnt have a name or hair style finalized yet. Has full power over the sence of touch. Very powerful but equally as reserved. Still does not know why he took in 2 kitsune but won't kick them out.

Tsubomimaru- longed haired kitsune. Power over visual and taste illusions. Mischievous natured and one to hold a grudge even if they started it. Has 1 braincell and only uses it for trouble.

Shiidoki- short haired kitsune. Power over sound and smell illusions. The responsible one. Always alert and tired. You can tell if he likes you if you can hear the big bell around his neck, but if you hear the high pitch smaller bells you did something wrong and should run.

Writing Prompt

"Why did this happen?"

"... The good die young, kid. It's just the way it is. Why do you think so many of us choose not to be good?"

The kid straightened up from his mother's - dad technically speaking, but the man is his mom so... - grave. A grave he didn't get to see bury. A grave that disrespected his people's culture and spat on by existing.

A grave that he didn't witness be used to disrespect his mom and his legacy because he was sent two hundred years into the future. Not witnessing the first Hero's death - a Hero who isn't even remembered today.

"No," he turned to face the old man who spoke. The old man who sent his little brother to his grave, and caused his family to separate. "The good die young because they're only ones who did something. Bystanders and society become witness to their deaths because they do nothing to prevent the events causing the death. The evil spit and laugh at their graves, knowing full well they had just wiped the world of someone who was trying to make the change they so preach about while causing the horrible things that cause damage causing the good to rise up and die. And everybody else sits watching, complaining and tottering about unsure, doing nothing and saying nothing because standing up means facing the possibility of dealing the same fate as the good had faced."

The old man smiles. And the son of a forgotten hero and unknown legacy stands his ground as he tries to manipulate him and spits at the ancient person's feet.

The cherry spider lily tree that bore witness to the forgotten hero's rise and fall and bears witness to this standoff between the son of Evil's Bane and the Evil One sways on, strong still in its resilience and continued protection of the Hero's Flame Valley.
