Yet again he found himself avoiding any means for which his family might try to communicate him, or at least avoid it as long as he believed he could get away with such things.

Because he knew he could only hide from their questions about his nonexistant love life for so long and the anticipation of having to be polite in the face of said questions only served to sour his mood.

And it only proved to be someone’s poor luck that he found himself in Dazai’s company.

“I must say I am surprised you are alone this time of year. I would have thought they would be plenty of women wanting to spend their time with you.” He commented, fully aware at how unnecessary the jab was.

▻ “Since when do you care about my eating habits?” Slight annoyance was in his voice as brown hues glanced to the redhead. He couldn’t understand why everyone was suddenly obsessed with his eating habits. ( No one had bothered about it before so he didn’t understand why now. Was it because he actually lost weight?)  

▻ “I’m fine. It shouldn’t be any of your concern what I’m eating and how much I’m eating, chibi.” Dazai could tell Chuuya that he had been eating only canned crab and some candy the entire time but he knew that he wouldn’t do himself a favor if he did so. Instead he would just try to end the topic in one way or another. “ Are you worried I might starve myself to death? That would be a horrible way to commit suicide.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I still despise you but I don’t want to be seen with a walking corpse like you are. That’s bad for my image.” Letting out a huff Chuuya turned his head away from him. “Besides,” he continued after a short pause, “what am I supposed to do with a partner that isn’t healthy enough to fight?”

“Ya know, there’s something I noticed. Everytime you say that you are fine, you are lying.” After spending so much time with Dazai it wasn’t as hard to tell when he wasn’t telling the truth anymore. He would still twist it around with his clever mind before the redhead could get too close to him, only making him angry in the end.

“Take better care of yourself or I’ll start force feeding you.”

Joking aside, it's gonna be an interesting dynamic, they're both quite damaged deep inside although they both try to hide it in their own way. And Akutagawa x Kuniko? Hell yeah! Although be warned Kuniko will always start off with a great dislike for Akutagawa, she loves her big sister and isn't happy with how Akutagawa mistreats her. ))

     The unforeseen inquiry leaves the infernal mutt in a state of silent contemplation for the briefest of moments, casting devoid ashen southward, the question replaying in his psyche as if on a loop — spoken so casually, so carelessly, yet he could not help but to become lost in thought, taking the string of words entirely too seriously.

     Was he even capable of smiling? Was such a genuine expression of elation even within the realm of possibility?

     What could the Tartarean diablo possibly have to grin about? The fond memories he harbored of their malefic time spent together in the mafia, that left him with an unshakable sense of inferiority? Perhaps, his former mentor would like him to find joy in being replaced by that accursed were-tiger he had so graciously taken under his benevolent wing?

     Hah — how laughable.

     ‶ A pointless notion. ‶

     Would it make him more efficient? Would an upturn of pale lips make him stronger or provide him with the ability to realize his ambitions? Such trivialities fell well into the realm of bliss, and Akutagawa had no use for such utter nonsense. He could only wonder what the point of asking was; when had Dazai-san ever expressed interest over his delectation or lack thereof? Even now, knowing how positively enigmatic the other could be, he could not resist the impulse to retort with a question of his own.

Was this one of the Armed Detective Agency’s official forms ? On one hand, paper takes much more TIME and THOUGHT to truly articulate; careful consideration must be taken into every word, even if there was some fill in the blank here and there. In some ways, that made it easier to tell if the man was sincere and in some ways, it only made it more difficult. 

                He has to admit though, it’s kind of nice seeing ‘ Yumeno - kun ‘ written again rather than ‘ Q ‘ ( even if Dazai - san did have a consistency problem. Why call him ‘ Q ‘ in one part and ‘ Yumeno - kun ‘ in the other ? ! ). It was even nicer to have the paper signed ‘ brother ‘; like their past bond actually did MEAN something to the man. But … then he reads that LAST sentence.

                ‘ … Okay ! I’ll forgive you but ONLY if you’re not going to do it again ! ‘

                ‘ And I’m STILL calling the police ! ‘

                Plot twist, the police is just the ADA. That’s it.

The night air was cold as rain came pouring hard beyond the balcony, not bothered in the slightest he stared out at the massive garden below and took his time enjoying the view. Making no moves to return inside when a clap of thunder rolled somewhere in the distance.

He pretended not hear one of the glass doors open and shut behind him as a flash of lightning lit up the sky. He also ignored the soft sound of footsteps approaching him from behind until the owner of those feet came to a stop right beside him.

In the glow of the lights from inside she looked gorgeous, he had to admit. Long dark hair tied back in a bun at the base of her neck, dolled up in makeup only a woman that spent countless hours in front of a mirror could manage and wearing a long dress that she knew hugged her curves in all the right places.

He already knew what she was here for before she opened her mouth.

“Do you really must leave?” She asked, her voice had something of a curious edge but he knew her to well to not know she was hoping he had changed his mind.

“Yes, I told you I have work that must be done.” He answered, turning his gaze completely back on the scenery. “But I am assuming you are not here dressed like that to give up, Maria.”

Beside him she gave the most girlish laugh he had ever heard before she rested her hand on his wrist, and for a moment he mused that only her and his family would ever be so dauntless as to do such a thing. Then again it wasn’t as if she wasn’t fully aware she was one of the few that would always be safe.

“Well you know I am the jealous type.” She hummed, a musical note to her tone that he had to admit he always enjoyed listening to. That being said when his other hand came to rest over hers he did not hesitate to gently remove her’s.

“Maria.” Voice as gentle as his grip on her, “we agreed this would not work, no?”

She nodded with a pout on her pretty face.

“And if I did not work when we had nothing but time to be together, how will it work with my being away. We both know you are not a woman that enjoys living without touch and affection.”

This time she looked away from him and he had to admit it was rather cute. 

“I know... but we are older now. Far more mature than we were.” She retorted, “is it not worth another try?”

He didn’t let it show but a not so small part of him wanted to do that very thing. Try again. But alas as always cold reason had it’s way so he let her go and lied, “maybe. Once I return, we can try again. If that would make you happy.”

When her brown eyes settled back on him he could see the irritation in her eyes, because he knew she had seen clean through his lie as if he were just some honest dimwit that had never told anything but the truth his whole life. But she did not grow angry or throw a tantrum like most rich girls did, no instead she wrapped her arms around him and for a brief moment their lips met.

He had no chance to reciprocate the gesture before she backed away with nothing short of a bittersweet smile on her face, “you really know how to let a girl down easy, Fyodor Dostoevsky. At the very least, do keep in touch, I can stand to lose the man I love to some beautiful Japanese woman but not my best friend. And try to stay safe, your mother worries.”

With that she turned and walked back inside, leaving him alone yet again to think.

miscellaneous angst

The idea had been to visit a new city. The sudden reappearance of the MetaVerse wasn’t odd, given that it was born out of the distorted desires of humanity. A number of their group had decided to take a trip, and with the money available to most of them now it wasn’t hard to drag the rest of their friends with them. A famous artist, an equally famous model, and a big shot CEO meant that they could go just about anywhere. And Akira was staking out Yokohama, trying to improve Japan as a whole before Ann drug them to America.

Funny how Akira always managed to find trouble, if the sudden fire in his side was anything to go by. Yusuke was going to kill him when he got home, if he got home. Though with someone pulling him aside, quiet words in his ear while he listened to everything happening around him gave Akira the thought that perhaps he’d stumbled upon their new hot spot of activity.
