Nuage Aglaia

The daughter of Mare and Ezra, Nuage was adopted when she was 7, after her birth father died of an illness. Nuage grew up by technicality an only child; but with the amount of time that was spent with the children of her parents’ friends and teammates, she essentially grew up with 10 siblings. It took time for her to emerge from her shell, but when she did, she was a bright young girl who took after her parents in talent and interests.

Nuage trained to become a Hunter, unlocking her semblance (resistance to hits and fog with it) without much difficulty. Her weapon was modeled after Romy Albrecht’s, a beautiful sabre with Dust engraved into it-- though after years of practicing with her father when she was a child, she was happy to add a pistol to her arsenal as well. She did well at Signal, exceeding in both her studies and her combat training.

Beacon proved to be its own challenge. With her aunt, Lilac, as headmistress there now, she was constantly wary of favoritism; however, she needn’t have worried. The team she was chosen to lead was something of a nightmare: team NEON, comprised of herself, Emerald Yinxing, Olive Arv, and Narcissus Panemorfi. Emerald never shared anything; Olive was depressed to the point of throwing herself at monsters without a thought. And Narcissus... he was someone Nuage desperately tried to connect with, as he was her partner, but he simply never let her in enough for that to happen. She had a hopeless crush on him for the first two years of their time together, trying to get him to be anything other than an asshole; but eventually, this turned to bitterness and resentment over his attitude and constantly pushing her buttons. In trying to deal with Narcissus and the rest of her team, she slept around with quite a few people in her year. Some of the relationships were messy, and Nuage made sure to learn her lessons from those.

Her team never really became functional, and when graduation rolled around, Nuage was happy to split off from them and never really talk to any of them again. However, she did find herself falling into a relationship with someone else from her year: Leon Raslocar, a teammate of one of her practically-siblings (Snapdragon, who was on her way to taking over Beacon in Lilac’s stead.)

Leon and Nuage made good partners, both as Hunters and romantically. They worked together, eventually living together, for several years before everything imploded all at once. Gathering samples of the sludge Grimm emerged from for another one of Nuage’s practically-siblings who studied Grimm for a living, she and Leon were on their way to Beacon to chat with her uncle Damien when Snap’s scream sounded from the roof. Leon, who had been carrying the jar of sludge, froze and dropped it before taking off at a pace Nuage had never seen before. With her boyfriend leaving her in the dust and her sibling’s scream echoing through the air, she ran to follow.

Nuage and Leon discovered one of Beacon’s teachers and a former classmate of theirs, Cerise, removing her sword from Snap’s body and pushing it off the roof. Cerise simply smiled at them and thanked them for making her work even easier, and how her mistress would be so pleased at how easy this whole thing was. When Nuage and Leon looked over the school grounds, their hearts sank. Grimm were everywhere now, and Cerise was running as they surveyed the scene.

The Grimm had spread from that pile of sludge, of course; and the terror brought by that scream only attracted more Grimm. Hunters from anywhere close enough to help were called, and that included Mare and Ezra, her parents. It was as they were making their way back to the ground floor that Nuage received a call from Ezra, one last conversation to tell her how much they loved her in case anything happened. The call was cut short, and Nuage knew that her parents were not surviving this fight.

Despite Leon’s protests to stay and fight, she grabbed his hand and dragged him away. People knew that they had been gathering the samples, she argued. The two of them would be blamed for this, undoubtedly by Cerise, and they would have to go into hiding. She would grieve when she knew they were safe; so the two fled into the woods, where they remain now, planning their next moves.
