Simple Plan stopped at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California last week. The Canadian rock quintet played to a sold out crowd in honor of their ‘No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls 15th Anniversary Tour,’ or ‘NPNHJB Tour,’ for short. From the moment the venue opened, 2,000 people came flooding through the doors filling up the main concert hall in minutes. The band brought along Set It Off and Seaway, who opened on all tour dates respectively. Set It Off got the night started with hits including “Don’t Worry,” “Forever Stuck in Our Youth,” “Upside Down,” and “Hypnotized.”
Just as the tour name states, Simple Plan crafted the perfect setlist, managing to perform every song off their debut album, and a five-song encore. Over the course of the night, highlights included a crowd-driven rendition of “Perfect,” “Addicted,” “I’m Just a Kid,” and encore pleasers “Shut Up” and “Welcome to My Life.” Their set was packed with production including impressive strobe lights and smoke machines throughout.
“You sold this s**t out, Anaheim! It’s been fifteen years since we’ve been made and started playing this record. We couldn’t have done this without you,” lead frontman Pierre Bouvier stated. Clad in his signature ‘Role Model’ tee, it’s clear the band hadn’t lost their roots along the way. The entire night was a everlasting moment of pure nostalgia, and the fans we’re enjoying every single second of it.
Simple Plan’s ‘NPNHJB Tour’ will pick up again when it hits Grand Rapids, Michigan this August. Set It Off will be opening for the second leg, just as they did respectively on first leg. Tickets can be purchased via Simple Plan’s website http://www.simpleplan.com/tour or Set It Off’s at http://setitoffband.com/. Set It Off’s latest album, ‘Upside Down’, is available now.

SIMPLE PLAN
1. When did you first become a fan and how?
I don't remember the exact year, but it was sometime between 2003 and 2004. I saw the video for Perfect and I guess I decided right then and there that I was going to be a fan! I was 14, ok?!
2. Have you seen them live? If so how many times? What did you think? What dates did you see them on and what city? I have seen them 9 times. All the shows were AMAZING! Like duh... July 2004-Calgary Stampede (Calgary)

November 27, 2005-Pengrowth Saddledome (Calgary)

September 6, 2008-Pengrowth Saddledome (Calgary)
July 6, 2009-Calgary Stampede (Calgary)
June 17, 2011-SAIT's Gateway (Calgary)
February 13, 2012-The Corral (Calgary)
July 17, 2016-Calgary Stampede (Calgary)
April 13, 2017- House of Blues (Anaheim)
September 8, 2017- The Palace Theatre (Calgary)
3. What is the craziest/most extreme thing you have done for the band? Does traveling from Calgary to Anaheim count? I've also sat out in the pouring rain on a few occasions.
4. What do you love most about the band?
The fact that they meet/sign things for their fans after shows. They're just genuinely nice guys :)
5. What do you love most about them live?
 Stage energy and fan-band interaction
6. Have you ever won backstage passes/soundcheck passes?
Nope. I did have the opportunity to get SP Crew Soundcheck passes for the Anaheim show and the most recent Calgary show, but since I had VIP, there was no point.
7. Do you have "connections" with the band?(relations). Do you know anyone who has connections with them?
 Nope
8. Have you ever met them? If so how many times? Where, when, and how did you meet them? What did they say/do? what did they sign for you?
I've met them twice. Well, I've met all 5 members once and everyone but David twice.
June 17, 2011: I met them all after the show at SAIT. They signed the setlist I got and each member commented on the shirt I was wearing. It was an old school SP shirt.
April 13, 2017: I met them after the concert in Anaheim. It was part of the VIP package. They signed my VIP laminate and a birthday card for my little brother. I also got them to wish my little brother a happy birthday-which they were happy to do :) Pierre felt the need to take like 8 pictures of us...Me and Chuck talked about the show coming up in Calgary in September and how it's an 18+ show. Chuck didn't even know it was 18+
September 8, 2017: As part of the VIP package, I got to meet the band. They signed my VIP laminate and a sign I had made. Pierre hugged me and thanked me for the awesome sign. Chuck commented on my old school SP hoodie and he read my sign and thought it was pretty cool and he was super happy that the band was able to get me on stage after all these years.
9. Do you have any old merch?
I have a hoodie and a t-shirt that would be from their first line of merch (NPNHJB timeframe). My little brother now has the shirt xD
10. Describe them in 5 words: Funny, energetic, super nice, caring
11. What is your fave video and why?
Wow. Uhm, that's a hard one. I like ALL of them.
12. How much Simple Plan merch do you have in total? How much do you have from each concert? No concert merch from any of the Stampede shows.
November 27: SP glow stick and I'm assuming a shirt?
September 6: SP glow stick, and I'm assuming a shirt or two? I have one of the shirts still and the other I don't...
June 17: One shirt for sure...not sure if I have any other merch from that show
February 13: SP glow stick, GYHO poster, GYHO tour date t-shirt, GYHO t-shirt with a panda on it
April 13: Two NPNHJB tour t-shirts, a hoodie with a broken heart on it, bracelet thing
September 8: NPNHJB tour t-shirt
Non concert: signed GYHO poster, A Big Package For You DVD, SP Crew skull t-shirts, signed SP Crew poster, SP Crew laminate, guitar picks (SP Crew), VIP laminate, VIP souvenir ticket, signed North American Tour 2017 poster, all 5 CD's, Worst Day Ever hoodie, t-shirt with the the NPNHJB logo (heart, face, cloud) on it.
Other: 3 water bottles from Pierre, a piece of Seb's towel, 2 guitar picks from Seb, 1 concert setlist.
13. How many times have they played in your city?
At least 11. I've only missed 2 Calgary shows, I think?
14. Have you ever travelled out of your city to see them? If so, how far and where?
Sure have. I went to the Anaheim show...so just over 2500 km's.
15. What do think was the best concert? Why? Which tour was it on?
All of them have been awesome, but I'll have to go with the Anaheim concert (NPNHJB 15 Anniversary Tour) for this one. It was the first time I traveled out of Canada for a concert and it was the day after my birthday.
16. Have you ever had front row for a concert?
All of them, except for the July 2004, November 2005 and the February 2012 concerts.
17. What seats did you have for all Simple Plan concerts? What were the best seats?
Well they aren't really seats. It's GA. The only two concerts I've had seats for were the November 2005 (level 2 seating) and the February 2012 (level 2 seating).
18. Do you know their emails or any other personal contact information?
If you Google Pierre's address, it will come up.  No joke.
19. What is your best memory at each Simple Plan concert? July 2004-I really don't remember much of that concert. All I can remember is them playing You Don't Mean Anything and Crash and Burn.
November 27-It was my best friend's first time seeing SP, so it was pretty awesome that we got to see our favourite band together. We also dissed Hedley while we were there.
September 8-I got to be on the floor for the first time at a Simple Plan concert. It was also the second time I got to see Simple Plan with my best friend. Other than that, I don't really have any memories that stick out.

July 6-David said he was hungry, and someone (either in the crowd or it may have been security) actually went and got food for him xD
June 17-there was no security at all, so I was RIGHT UP against the stage. Pierre must have thought I was really thirsty because he gave me two of his waters. Oh! And Pierre forgot the lyrics to the first two lines of the second verse of When I'm With You. I finally met the band after 7 years!

February 13-They played Worst Day Ever for the first time in years! Also Pierre came into the section I was in and sang to me.
July 16-During Farewell, Pierre looked at me and sang the bridge to me.

April 13-Other than the VIP stuff after the concert, my favourite memory would probably have to be when the band acknowledged my sign.
September 8- I got to go up on stage before they played Welcome To My Life. I was hugged twice by Pierre and he thanked me for the sign. And then obviously, the VIP stuff.
20. Who is your fave member of the band and why?
Pierre. Because why not. I don't want to sound like a fan girl, so I'm not going to say why he's my favourite.

No Pads, No Helmets, ... Just Balls 15th Anniversary Tour | Philadelphia, PA
Simple Plan NPNHJB 15th Anniversary Tour
Philadelphia, PA 3.28.17
The Fillmore
Set It Off: Cody Carson, Dan Clermont, Maxx Danziger, Zach DeWall
19th show.
4th show in 2017.
2nd show in March.
4th Set It Off show.
On March 28th I had the privilege of seeing Set It Off for the fourth time.
Although I have seen this band perform three full headlining sets and one Warped tour set as well as an in-store acoustic set and one acoustic VIP song, I still enjoy seeing them live.
This was my first time seeing them in Philadelphia despite me living here for a year and a half. It was also my first time attending a show at The Fillmore. I have been to the Foundry, which is the smaller venue within the Fillmore, but the Fillmore has a larger stage and audience capacity.
Despite it being a larger venue than I am used to, I still enjoyed the show.
I arrived around 3:30pm or so to wait in line. There weren't too many people in front of me, but I also had VIP for Set It Off, so I knew I didn’t have to arrive too early before the doors opened at 6pm and VIP check in at 5pm.
By the time check in started and we were allowed inside the venue, it was around 5:30 or so.
VIP was absolutely fantastic.
I have met the band before, but it is still really nice to see them.
This VIP package included an acoustic performance of a song from Upside Down, playing Catchphrase with the band, a limited edition screen printed and signed poster, a VIP lanyard, and time to talk to each member and take a picture.
For this VIP, we had the entirety of The Foundry to ourselves. It was really nice because of the couches and space available to us.
The band talked a little and said hello, as well as compliment someone’s sequin bomber jacket. It was nice to see them again after several months.
They performed a song acoustically, and it was a great performance. It’s one of the songs that was also in their set, but it was still really nice to hear it acoustically live.
After the song, we played catchphrase.
Despite not always enjoying games that remind me of icebreakers, playing catchphrase was a lot of fun. Oliva, the band’s merch girl, joined us since we had an odd number of people due to the chaperones for some of the fans in VIP.
After Team 2 won 5-0, we had time to talk to each of the guys in the band.
I talked to Zach first, the Dan, then Cody, and finally Maxx.
Even though I have met all of them before, I can still be a pretty awkward person. Despite this, I enjoyed talking to all of them. I even made each of them Lego mini figures of themselves, each with accessories pertaining to each member.
They all loved them, and Cody even posted his on his Instagram story that night.
After VIP, we were allowed back into the venue right after the Simple Plan VIP ticket holders to get good standing positions in the crowd.
I was luckily able to make it to the barricade without having to weasel my way through a crowd.
Despite an overenthusiastic fan of Seaway, I enjoyed waiting for Seaway, who played first.
I ended up befriending another SIO fan who remembered me from Lancaster, PA. We also talked to one woman who loves Simple Plan and brought her boyfriend and 10 year-old nephew with her.
Seaway put on a good show.
I had not listened to them before the concert, but I thoroughly enjoyed their set.
The crowd got a little rowdy with a mosh pit and at least one crowd surfer, but other than that, it was fairly tame. The crowd did push into me and the 10 year-old slightly, but other than that, the crowd was not too crazy.
Now, the crowd was not too crazy during Set It Off’s set either.
This surprised me becasue the crowds tend to get crazy.
I had an incredible time. It was my first time being at the barricade for one of their shows due to injuries at the time of previous shows.
Their set was limited to ten songs, but they chose some fan favorites from both Duality and Upside Down, as well as some new favorites from the latest album.
Cody showed his Philadelphia pride and wore a Dawkins jersey. For those of you who do not follow the NFL, Dawkins is a player on the Philadelphia Eagles.
As the show went on, Cody explained some of the songs and the messages behind them, including Hypnotized.
He also dedicated the show to his father, who passed away when Cody was around 19 years old. His father was born in PA, and shared his love of Philadelphia sports with Cody. This show is the largest show they have ever played in Philadelphia, and Cody was very proud of that.
Their performance included high energy songs, jumping off of speakers, crowd walking, and getting the crowd pumped up for Simple Plan.
After their set completed, the crowd was crazy to try to get a set list, guitar pick, and drumsticks.
Luckily, I was able to get one of the set lists, and the 10 year-old next to me was able to get one as well.
After the set, Cody hung out near the merch table to attempt to meet fans. This is always a crazy experience, so I chose to wait until the end of the concert.
I was able to talk to Olivia and Evie, their two merch girls for this show. Olivia was super sweet, as always. Evie remembered me from Lancaster as well, and it was really cool to get to know her and find out that she also goes to school in the Philadelphia area.
After the show, Cody, Zach, and Dan met and talked with the fans who lined up to meet them. The line was very long, but it was great to see that they band was willing to meet all of the fans who did line up.
I was first in line, and I was able to get the three of them to sign the start of the line sign Olivia gave me. I even had some great short conversations with each of them. I talked about hopscotch and game development with Dan, Italy with Zach, and a bit more personal issue with Cody.
Overall, the concert and entire experience was an unforgettable one. I would highly recommend both attending a show at The Fillmore and listening to Set It Off.
Happy listening!
