Our flight to Lima was rescheduled until the next day, which caused us to missed our flight from Lima to Cusco. We then had to stay overnight in the airport so we can catch the first flight at 345am to Cusco. We lost two days of travel and a hotel night. Those two days, we could have used to acclimate to the elevation and explore more of Peru but our travel schedule was now tight and we had to prep for a day trip Machu Picchu followed by another day trip to Rainbow Mountain. We continued as planned. Ate some good food, hiked and saw some dope ish. With the rescheduled initial flight on Sunday, the airlines extended our stay by one full day and guaranteed that we would fly out at 540am on Friday so we can be back in DC by Friday night. After a multiple calls and emails and $500 in roaming charges, we didnt get on that flight. Sarah had to work a DC wedding on Saturday and HAD to be back. She ended up booking a $$$$ one way ticket to DC via Cusco > Lima > San Salvador > DC Friday morning. Meanwhile, I'm still in Cusco trying to find a flight home but all flights were booked, some oversold. I tried every airline and connection. After three hours at the counter, I was able to find a route to DC by Sunday via Cusco > Lima > Miami > DC. This route allowed for some pretty long layovers that allowed me to venture into these cities. Well I'm finally home, not throwing up and no pounding headache. Is this a complaint? In no way it is. It is my story of my birthday week in Peru with Sarah and I loved every minute of it.
