you know what boils my blood.

over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."

i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.

but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.

today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.

the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.

so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.

I think the main reference to his height is Epel being surprised they're the same age because he's taller than Sebek, yes? which I find interesting, considering Jade and Malleus -- two of the tallest guys in the main cast -- are also there. and, since I've never been one to not think waaaay too much about the absolute stupidest minutiae about fictional characters, I see two possibilities:

one is that Epel is extremely good at eyeballing heights (I actually do feel like he could be? like. I'd believe he can estimate someone's height fairly accurately by calculating based on the life stages of an apple tree, or how many apples tall they are, or something else apple-related like that.) and Scully does, perhaps, fall into that narrow margin between Sebek and Jade in height.

OR two, out of the three certified Tall Guys there, Sebek is Epel's main frame of reference because he's the only one he's had any real interaction with for, let's be fair, pretty obvious reasons.

SO in conclusion, we still have no concrete answers and will probably have to wait until next year when we get his card profile, alas alas. 😔

I have very strong opinions about disaster preparation as someone who lives in a tornado zone, where evacuation is NOT an option for anyone and the only way to definitely survive is to 1) be in a building that WON'T just get picked up AND 2) have a basement, cellar, or specialized tornado shelter.

The simple fact is that the majority of fatalities in tornadoes are people living in mobile homes/trailers and those deaths could be reduced massively if the government built tornado shelters in high risk areas. But there's been very, very little effort to do that and tornadoes are just getting stronger and more deadly while poor people are left to huddle in our bathtubs, listening to the sirens and thinking about easily we could die.

Sukuna's Aversion to Toys

Pairing: Ryomen Sukuna x fem!reader Synopsis: Sukuna really doesn't like your toys. CW: trueform!sukuna, sexual themes, fire WC: 437

“What the hell?” You stop in your tracks when you step into your living room and find Sukuna tossing your sex toys, one by one, into the fireplace. 

He looks up at you briefly, all four eyes looking unbothered, before he returns his gaze to the task at hand. “Evening.”

His nonchalance irks you, especially as he’s tossing your beloved rose into the fire. “Sukuna!”

“Woman,” he quips, not looking at you. 

You let out an exasperated sound as he watches with satisfaction how the silicone melts in the fire. You hold your hands up in question. “Why are you— why are you using my toys as firewood?!”

“I would have burnt them with my own hands but I exercised a great deal of mindfulness to that white contraption in your kitchen,” he responds coolly and juts his chin over to the ceiling of the open plan kitchen. 

You turn and look and then turn back to him. “The smoke alarm?” 

He hums in agreement, “Yes. That. It is quite a pointless device, I think, and m—” but you cut him off. 

“Allow me to rephrase, just why are you burning my toys?” Your brows knit together in annoyance. 

“Fool. For what reason do you need these silly, childish contraptions when you have the presence of me?” He snaps, shooting you an incredulous look. 

You can’t believe this. The king of curses…jealous? Of a few sex toys? You cross your arms over your chest. “I’ll have you know, I had all of those before we met!”

“And? Why keep them in your possession?” He presses, red eyes shining. 

“Wh…Sukuna. Please, be serious,” you sigh. 

“I am.” He deadpans, “Deadly.”

“Me having toys before I met you really shouldn’t be an issue,” you rage, stomping over to him and grabbing the bullet that was in his hand. But he doesn’t let go.

“It is. Having me should suffice,” he shrugs and maintains his grip on the vibe. 

“Who said having you was not sufficient?!” You bite back. 

“Keeping these damned things implies just that, brat. It is simply greedy that you have me in this form, with twice the number of everything, yet…you still keep these ridiculous gadgets.” He takes the bullet back and throws it into the flames. 

You let out a small scoff as you watch him. “Heaven forbid a girl have possessions,” you huff, “and what when you’re away? How am I supposed to satisfy myself then?” 

He stands and faces you, feeding the last one to the flames with a toss over his shoulder. 

“Simple. You do not.”
