Longewala | Jaisalmer War
The pressure to Longewala was an experience in itself. The view of giant barren lands protected timid sand dunes, and clean roads controlled with the aid of BRO - it changed into satisfaction for a driving enthusiast like me. The roller coaster journey of going up the steep inclines on the street and rushing down even steeper ones turned into a lot of fun. We had been shouting “Whooo” once in a while. We had a quick forestall in one of the dunes to get our hands grimy with the sand. It changed into a windy morning and the air turned perfectly warm to provide a nonviolent feeling.
Longewala
We reached Longewala with the aid of 1.15 PM. It is a battle memorial that has at the show the Pakistani tanks and weapons that have been captured in the course of the 1971 Indo-Pak struggle. There are loads of inspirational rates written everywhere. We additionally saw a short documentary on the struggle because it occurred and how bravely our squaddies fought a navy 30x larger than them. We felt so patriotic at that region. Longewala is certainly an area to visit and to feel the sacrifices our soldiers make to hold us secure.
Tanot Mata ka Temple
After spending some true time at the area, we left for Tanot Mata Mandir which's some other 50-60 km from there. Mandir is managed through BSF. We worshipped Tanot Mata and pointed out the tale associated with the temple (which you could examine online).
At the template gate, there has been an unusual buzz going around underneath a small color. sadly, we got here to realize that we required to have permission from the Jaisalmer headquarters. I had given up however my brother-in-regulation stood there helplessly seeking to consider a manner to get the permission.
Want to Travel then do Check out Taxi in Jodhpur.
Looking at his dejected face, a soldier came and asked us if we desired to move. He nodded without delay. The soldier took his ID card and gave us permission to head. I couldn’t believe it and ran right now to the auto and got here returned racing it. Apparently, the border access closes at round four.15 PM and it was 4.05 PM and they had been allowing the remaining batch of visitors. We just made it in time.
The Main Border
The border is another 10-15 km from there. If you go to Jaisalmer, it's far an area now not to miss. Get permission before you go right here as you may not be as lucky as we were. We ought to see the border fence in front of people and Pakistan on the alternative facet. There have been more than one soldier there who were very friendly. They have been patiently answering human beings’ random questions. We were given to realize a lot about how security is managed on the border. It became a revel in of a lifetime!
After Reached
We back at round 6 PM. The solar had set. We had been on the Mandir again where we stopped to wait nature's name. We have been going to depart straightaway after that once my wife stated that nighttime Aarti within the mandir became absolutely tremendous and have to be watched. We, being not that into praying, we're no longer tons interested. But, she insisted so we needed to move (married participants might understand). Surprisingly, I was satisfied we did. The Aarti changed into the fine one we had ever seen in a temple. The BSF Jawaans pray to her with so much power! We sat there for an amazing 1/2 an hour before leaving. If you go to right here, do no longer leave out the Aarti. It begins at around 6:30 PM.
Stay Tuned

Jedrick Wills Jr. is a 1st-round OL, but he comes with a risk
Jedrick Wills Jr. is one of the top OT prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Retired defensive end Stephen White explains why there’s a lot to like about Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr. — and one reason to be concerned.
Jedrick Wills Jr. was a supremely talented right tackle for Alabama this past season. I want to be clear on that point first thing. But while I was blown away by some of what I saw on his tape, I still came away having a few concerns about him as an NFL prospect.
Before I get into any negatives, I want to highlight Wills’ strong points, because there are plenty.
On his best plays, the guy was a damn monster who looked like one of the best offensive linemen I have ever evaluated.
On some running plays, the 6’4, 320-pound juggernaut looked every bit as powerful as Jawaan Taylor was on tape. On some passing plays, Wills’ pass set was every bit as technically sound as Ronnie Stanley’s a few years ago when he came out. Some of his downfield blocks were every bit as ridiculous as the ones Greg Robinson made in college back in 2013.
As a matter of fact, if Wills were just a little more consistent, I wouldn’t have had any problems making a Quenton Nelson comparison with him. Not that they are the same type of player, but they were both good enough to dominate right off the bat in the NFL. Even now, I would still say Wills has a similar type of versatility; I would be comfortable with him coming in and playing either tackle or guard position right away. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he could play center, too.
If he can find that next level of consistency, you’re talking about Wills as a potential All-Pro type of player.
What Wills does well: Run and pass block
As a run blocker, Wills was an assassin on the second level. He would bump the hell out of the first guy at the line of scrimmage initially; then, when he scooped up to linebacker depth, that was your ass, Mr. Postman!
I swear, Wills would treat them dudes like he had heard they were talking bad about his mama!
But it wasn’t just the intensity of those blocks that impressed me. Wills showed good technique and athleticism. He stayed under control until he was within striking distance, then took his shot with almost perfect timing.
That’s at least partially why I feel like he could move inside to guard. In the NFL, Wills’ short-area quickness becomes a huge asset. He moves more like a defensive lineman (sorry, not sorry) and with his kind of power and explosion out of his hips, I think he could be pretty damn dominant at guard.
Not that I think his new team would have to do that.
Usually, I associate bumping a guy inside with him struggling as a pass protector, but with Wills, I think he could play either position about equally as well. It’s actually a compliment rather than a diss.
Gone are the days when most good teams would consider drafting a road-grading right tackle who can’t pass block in the first round. When we say it’s a passing league, that means more than just the quarterback and skill positions. If you can’t protect your quarterback for 45-55 (maybe even 60) passing plays in this era, you won’t last very long.
With Wills, I don’t really have those concerns. His athleticism jumped off the screen, but he didn’t try to rely solely on that when trying to keep pass rushers off his quarterback. His kick step was fluent, consistent, and at just the right angle backward, which allowed him to be patient.
He was also frequently able to keep his shoulders square to the line, while bailing out fast enough to turn and force speed rushers deeper than the quarterback at just the right moment.
Waiting like that takes nerves of steel, because if you wait a hair too long, or you don’t make solid contact with the pass rusher, your quarterback ends up on his ass. But Wills literally didn’t give up a pressure on a single speed rush in the four games I watched.
What Wills does well: Switch up his timing
Wills’ punch is NFL ready and a major reason why it’s so hard to get around him. Not only does he have a good sense of timing on when to shoot his hands, he’s also explosive enough to shove guys well off track as they try to run around the edge.
However, where he gets next level is Wills already knows how to switch up his timing on when he shoots them.
I can tell you as an old pass rusher who was coached by one of the best defensive line coaches in NFL history, there is nothing we love more than for a guy to throw their punch on a count that we can pick up on. When someone switches it up like Wills, it can throw your whole pass rush plan off — not only for that play, for the rest of the game as well.
I actually saw Wills jump set a dude one play, then keep his hands back until the very last second on the next.
You know how frustrating that can be when a pass rusher is trying to target a tackle’s hands? There are starting NFL tackles now that don’t switch it up with their punch as well as I saw Wills do it on tape.
Mind you, these were all Power 5 conference players he was shutting down around the corner. While there will be a jump in competition for him once he plays against NFL edge rushers, it won’t be a huge one. He’s ready to roll right away for whomever takes him, wherever they put him.
Where Wills can improve: Effort
Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let me express my concerns. Well, it’s kind of two concerns in one.
Wills didn’t get beat often in those four games, but he did give up four pressures, as well as losing on three other plays that could’ve resulted in pressures if not for his teammates’ efforts. I already told you that I didn’t see him lose a speed rush, so that means all of his losses came on inside moves.
Two of the seven losses were on spin moves by the pass rusher.
So what gives?
After watching his tape a few more times, it was clear the issue wasn’t spin moves or technique. The problem started to look like one rooted in lack of effort on those plays.
From everything you’ve read up to this point, it should be obvious that Wills’ tape overall showed him to be more than talented enough to be a top-16 pick in this draft. However, if there’s one thing that makes me skeptical of an NFL prospect, it’s a lack of effort. To the extent that being a “bust” is even a real thing, I would be willing to bet that, aside from injury, nothing derails a player’s career more than a lack of effort. Or should I say a lack of appropriate effort.
And this is where it gets tricky.
For players selected in the first round, it’s almost a given that they have a lot of talent before they ever put on an NFL uniform. It is also safe to assume they’ve been dominant for most of the time they’ve played the game. They are usually guys who can ball out even when they weren’t going quite their hardest.
But I don’t know if y’all are ready for that conversation.
Here’s what it boils down to for me. On several of the plays where he was beaten inside, Wills obviously relaxed at some point during the play. There were also a few plays I saw where he was blocking one guy pretty well, but then after a while he would start looking around behind him, as if trying to see if the ball had been thrown or something.
At the same time, after thinking it through, the reason why those plays stuck out so much to me is because they were anomalies. On probably 97 percent of the plays I watched, Wills’ effort was appropriate, if not always outstanding.
So the question I would have if I were in a position of picking him in first round (especially in the top 16) is: did his motor really run hot and cold sometimes? Or was it just a matter of, for lack of a better term, him being “bored” playing against dudes who he had an easy time of blocking? The answer to that question is what I’d be seeking when I talked to his coaches, some of his teammates, and Wills himself.
If I heard it was the former, I would probably pass if I were drafting that high. Yes, I know how hard it is to find a good offensive tackle these days, but it might be worse to draft the wrong one high and be stuck with him for at least a few years. Your starting quarterback definitely ain’t gonna be happy about it, I can promise you that much.
But if it’s the latter, as I suspect it is, I would give him a pass with the understanding that those days are over. I don’t really think anybody will have to tell him that once he gets to the league and starts taking on NFL talent. You get caught slipping on one play and your season might be over in a flash with your quarterback going down.
But, if he can get his motor to run just a tad bit more consistently, you’re talking about a guy who could be a game changer up front for any team.
Wills’ NFL future: Immediate starter
Wills is talented enough to be in the NFL for a long time at multiple positions. I don’t see him actually getting out of the top of the first round, regardless. And just to reiterate, I lean a lot more toward boredom being the answer to those lapses. So if that is actually the case, then why not take him early?
Wills has the skillset, size, and technique to be at least a quality starter from day one. His 5.05-second 40-yard dash and 34.5-inch vertical at the combine just confirmed what’s already on the tape. With someone like that, I’d be willing to bet that years from now, the general managers who pass on him will end up being the ones getting second-guessed rather whomever turns his name in on draft day. I predict the number of GMs who pass on him will not be very high when it’s all said and done, however.
Be sure to check out my other scouting reports on Chase Young, Jerry Jeudy, and Derrick Brown.
For the purposes of this breakdown, I watched Wills play against South Carolina, LSU, Auburn, and Michigan (Citrus Bowl).

2019 NFL Mock Draft Duel
Over the last 2 years I’ve done 7 round mock drafts prior to the NFL Draft. I’m not sure I’m feeling quite that ambitious this year but what I am going to do is a dueling mock. The first pick is my prediction and the second will be what I would do if I were the GM of each team. Off we go.
Prediction Pick 1: Arizona Cardinals Kyler Murray QB Oklahoma
I’ve been pretty vocal with how silly this all is to me but I can’t honestly say this is a “what I think will happen” pick and not take Kyler. It’s certainly not 100% but it feels very real at this point. I wouldn’t sign off on it(their owner might not either) but as I’ve said, make it work and nothing else matters.
My Pick 1: Arizona Cardinals Nick Bosa EDGE Ohio State
Supposedly the Cardinals will either trade the pick or take Kyler so this isn’t very realistic but it’s my play here. The other option is to trade the pick but the risk of trading back and Bosa haunting us for the next 5-10 years is very real. Can’t let talent like this slip through our fingers.
Prediction Pick 2: San Francisco 49ers Nick Bosa EDGE Ohio State
The 49ers added Dee Ford and there are 2 ways this goes with Bosa. First, Ford is a bust in which case we absolutely need Bosa. Second, Ford gives us what we paid for and we have arguably the best pass rush duo in the NFL. Neither of those options aren’t awesome.
My Pick 2: TRADE Oakland Raiders 49ers Receive Picks 27 (1st) and 140 (5th) Kyler Murray QB Oklahoma
With Bosa off the board, the other blue chip is Quinnen but he really just isn’t what I want. We have a ton of 1st round DT’s on the team and have a lot of holes. After reaching out to find a partner it didn’t take long because the Raiders see Murray on the board and gleefully accept. Picking up another 1st and only dropping 2 spots is a no brainer.
As the Raiders GM I’m actually okay staying at 4 but when I hear the 49ers want to move and the QB of the future is staring me in the face, a guy I can pair with Antonio Brown and whoever we get with our 3rd 1st round pick is too hard to pass up.
Prediction Pick 3: New York Jets Josh Allen EDGE Kentucky
Josh Allen is seen as an elite player in this class and a fantastic fit as a 3-4 OLB with the ability to play the run, pass, and cover. I’m personally not sold on the value but I doubt this pick is a regret.
My Pick 3: New York Jets Quinnen Williams DT Alabama
Typically in this spot I’m looking as hard as I can to trade back. More than likely I won’t find a partner and would also end up taking Allen but with Quinnen on the board this is easy. Is it the biggest need? No. But similar to the Packers we have some good players but could absolutely use a guy like Williams and also have questions about players being available beyond this year.
Prediction Pick 4: Oakland Raiders Quinnen Williams DT Alabama
Word on the street is that the Raiders will take Quinnen if he’s here, otherwise they will take Devin White. Quinnen is here so this is easy both from a prediction as well as a “what they should do” standpoint.
My Pick 4: San Francisco 49ers Josh Allen EDGE Kentucky
It took me a while to talk myself into this pick but it really feels like the best of a bunch of options I’m not entirely comfortable with. First, I’m not sure I like the fit in a 4-3 defense. Not that he’s incapable but he’s less effective.
That said, he’s capable against the run and should be able to hold up. As for his coverage ability, if we want to get creative we can use him as a 4-3 OLB in situations and use the guys we drafted to be DE’s as DE’s.
Prediction Pick 5: TRADE Atlanta Falcons Buccaneers Receive 45 (2nd) and 2020 3rd Ed Oliver DT Houston
I was going to do something really bold as a prediction but decided to try and trade back and hope he’s still around.
The Falcons really really seem to like Oliver and there’s almost no chance in my opinion that he falls to 14. When the Bucs start calling around there’s no question what we have to do.
Great player, great fit, good value.
My Pick 5: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ed Oliver DT Houston
Oddly enough this is probably more likely to be the pick than my prediction which seems counter-intuitive but there is method to my predictive madness.
As for my pick, however, Oliver probably wouldn’t be my pick if it wasn’t for the fact that we clearly want to shove Gerald McCoy out the door. With Vea in the middle I want to be able to get a perpetrator and Oliver is it.
Prediction Pick 6: New York Giants Daniel Jones QB Duke
I guess this will be my first official bold prediction. The consensus seems to be Dwayne Haskins, including 5 minutes ago when I just read Matt Miller state the Giants really like him, but I’m not so sure.
The Giants have done a lot of work on quarterbacks but the 3 they seemed to be most interested in were Jones, Haskins, and Murray. Murray is gone and was reportedly too short and according to Dianna Russini of ESPN, the Giants don’t see Haskins as a good fit for their team and haven’t really put in a lot of work on him.
The only real hesitation I have is if the Giants feel Jones will be available at 17 but that seems silly. First, if he’s your guy waiting is always the wrong choice. Second, he very likely would be gone.
My Pick 6: New York Giants Brian Burns EDGE Florida State
I actually have a gut feeling Burns falls but not if I’m the Giants GM. We need a pass rusher really really bad and have done a lot of work on basically all of them including Burns who we had in for a private visit.
And no, for the record, I’m not even considering QB. I might take a flyer on Rosen but in this mock he’s staying with the cardinals. I’m stacking talent and will look for a backup later and our future QB perhaps next year.
Prediction Pick 7: Jacksonville Jaguars Jonah Williams OT Alabama
This might seem like a bold prediction but it just feels like good sense to me. The Jaguars desperately need OL help, not just for their new QB but for their run game which will be the focal point of their offense.
Jonah is a great fit for the Jaguars as a right tackle and as a guy that comes from a trenches kind of school that emphasized power over movement which should suit Jonah.
And lest you think it’s too early, Jonah made it know that he has been told he is the number 1 tackle on several teams boards including several tackle needy teams inside the top 10.
My Pick 7: Jacksonville Jaguars Jonah Williams OT Alabama
It seems strange that a bold prediction is actually the first to be predicted as well as what I would do but I just really like this pick and it makes a lot of sense to me.
It’s actually very reminiscent of the Mike McGlinchey pick by the 49ers last year which is also what I said I would have done in that spot.
Prediction Pick 8: Detroit Lions Devin White LB LSU
This was a tough call only because I think Sweat needs to be looked at here and supposedly the Lions really like him. I also considered Devin Bush as an option considering he may not be far from White and has the Michigan connection.
Still, the rumor is that Sweat may actually fall in the draft due to his heart issue. Beyond that, the Lions need a #2 pass rusher and a #1 LB making this more of a dire need as well as a better overall player.
My Pick 8: Detroit Lions Devin White LB LSU
Half of the reasoning in the last pick was my own so there isn’t much to elaborate on here. It’s a tough call and Sweat offers perhaps more upside but we need help here.
Trading is also an option but not really. Taking one of two good options is better than trading and getting neither.
Prediction Pick 9: Buffalo Bills Rashan Gary EDGE/DT Michigan
This wasn’t an easy call and I unpicked this twice but ultimately kept coming back to it. I wanted Gary to fall because I think his lack of effort at times with Michigan would cause him to fall further than we thought.
But then I realized this entire draft is about upside and potential. From Murray, to Oliver, to D.K. Metcalf, a lot of the first round picks will be about drafting upside and that’s what Gary is.
Beyond that it’s a fit. The Bills 4-3 scheme with needs in the trenches for both #2 pass rusher and interior help, Gary really does fit. The final piece was whether there was interest and the Bills have met with him twice including a private workout.
My Pick 9: TRADE Miami Dolphins Bills Receive 13 (1st) and 78 (3rd) Jawaan Taylor OT Florida
I’m assuming when the trade happens everyone is going to scream “Here goes Dwayne Haskins”. And then comes the disappointment. The fact is, I’m not going to reach for a QB and don’t think this is the year. I’m embracing the tank and looking to add studs.
With that said, whenever we do end up drafting a quarterback, we’ll need to have a much better offensive line because what we have is horrible.
We will still need help on the interior but with Tunsil at LT and now Taylor at RT, which was his position at Florida, we at least have a solid tackle duo.
Prediction Pick 10: Denver Broncos Drew Lock QB Missouri
I’m less that 50% sure this is going to happen but whatever the percentage is, it’s higher than any other pick so I’ll play the odds.
My Pick 10: Denver Broncos T.J. Hockenson TE Iowa
In general I’m hesitant to take a TE this early and tried to go elsewhere but this team is actually in pretty good shape. I considered Devin Bush but I think a bigger hole and a bigger potential help to the team would be a top tier TE like Hockenson.
Prediction Pick 11: Cincinnati Bengals Dwayne Haskins QB Ohio State
There might be bigger needs in 2019 and I’m not sure what the Bengals think of Haskins but I just don’t know how you hire and brand new offensive minded head coach and let a top QB fall right into your lap at 11 and not take him. So we’re taking him.
My Pick 11: Cincinnati Bengals Devin Bush LB Michigan
Haskins is definitely in consideration but the team in general just isn’t ready. Our defense isn’t great and our offensive line is straight trash meaning Haskins would just be the 2019 version of Josh Rosen.
Linebacker and offensive line are the biggest needs. Bush is the best option.
Prediction Pick 12: Green Bay Packers T.J. Hockenson TE Iowa
It’s interesting how in my prediction Hockenson, Burns, and Bush are all available and the “what I would do” they are all gone. Let’s hope this is the reality of the situation.
As for why Hock I think the Packers will want to stack the offensive side of the ball with talent and Hockenson is going to set the tone.
Also, as I’ve mentioned I’m getting a weird feeling Burns might slide a little bit and it’s hard to illustrate that if the Packers take him here at 12.
My Pick 12: TRADE Washington Redskins Packers Receive Pick 96 (3rd) Dwayne Haskins QB Ohio State
Losing out on Hock, Burns, and Bush is painful but we’re going to make the best of it and Haskins falling helps. A third doesn’t seem like much but we’re only dropping 3 spots and 1 team is taking a QB (Washington).
For context, pick 96, if paired with our other 3rd gets us into the 2nd round. If we use it with our 2nd round pick, it’s almost enough to get us back into the 1st. It’s a pretty big pick for only moving back a couple.
As for the Redskins, the temptation to roll with Keenum and see how it goes is there but I would like to have an actual competitive franchise and that means making moves for a franchise QB.
Prediction Pick 13: Miami Dolphins Clelin Ferrell EDGE Clemson
There was talk about Ferrell to Miami back in February but not much since. Still, the edge rusher position is an absolute mess and there is just absolutely nobody there. Ferrell isn’t my favorite prospect but he’s an absolute stud and should be a good fit for the Dolphins and a position of desperate need.
My Pick 13: Buffalo Bills D.K. Metcalf WR Ole Miss
This is somewhat of a high risk bet but I like the fit. Josh Allen is a big bodied QB with a rocket arm. Finding a WR that Allen can launch it up to and will have a hard time overthrowing is a massive asset especially for a team looking to build around their QB.
Add in the massive upside of D.K. and it moves the needle enough to roll the dice.
Prediction Pick 14: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jawaan Taylor OT Florida
Alright so Jawaan probably isn’t going to make it this far. In fact, I really wanted to have Tampa take him at 5, and if they do I expect full credit, but I thought a trade back in which they still get him makes sense.
Bottom line, the Bucs GM loves local players as well as SEC players. In his first year he took Mike Evans from A&M, next year was Winston from Florida State (ACC but local), then Hargreaves from Florida (SEC AND local), and then OJ Howard in 2017. Vea was the 1 exception to that rule since Licht took over.
I legitimately think he’s in play at 5 but in this scenario it’s beyond a no brainer.
My Pick 14: Atlanta Falcons Joshua Jacobs RB Alabama
I can’t say I’ve ever seen this mocked before but as I looked at our roster, I really don’t like our RB room. Freeman has been alright over his time but I’m not happy with a room captained by Ito Smith.
If Josh Jacobs has the ability to be a Alvin Kamara type player, putting him with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, and Calvin Ridley, there is no excuse for this to not be a top 5 offense again.
Prediction Pick 15: TRADE Arizona Cardinals Washington Redskins Receive Josh Rosen Cody Ford OG Oklahoma
Yes part of this is just for fun but I think it’s actually fairly realistic if we’re assuming Murray is a Cardinal. The Redskins have a better offensive line so hopefully Rosen will have a little better luck.
If we (Cardinals) are going to really do this we are going all in on offense. We need OL help badly and Ford is probably the best available player.
And no, the Oklahoma connection isn’t an accident. I’m dead serious about making this work and not only would I consider Hollywood in round 2, I considered him right here. Just call us the Arizona Sooners.
My Pick 15: Green Bay Packers Christian Wilkins DT Clemson
I hated having to pick here. I don’t really want Sweat but thought really hard about it. Otherwise I’m looking at Wilkins, Gary, Fant, Greedy… Dillard. Just not excited.
But the more I thought about Wilkins the happier I got. I really think he’s an underrated player that has Kenny Clark potential that will give us a 5th player along the front that can get after the passer as well as play the run.
It also helps us down the line if we choose to move on from Mike Daniels and/or Dean Lowrey.
Prediction Pick 16: Carolina Panthers Brian Burns EDGE Florida State
The Panthers are a team that likes to build in the trenches.
The trenches are trash right now
Burns had a great meeting with the Panthers
Burns’ brother played for the Panthers
Most of those facts are irrelevant but I like the pick because it sort of highlights where I think Burns could end up falling in the draft.
My Pick 16: Carolina Panthers Clelin Ferrell EDGE Clemson
Similar logic here but possibly an even better fit for the Panthers. Ferrell just feels like a Panthers DE being a long and physical type player.
Prediction Pick 17: New York Giants Montez Sweat EDGE Mississippi State
I wanted Sweat to fall with all the rumors about him possibly sliding out of the 1st round but the Giants need edge rush help as bad as any team in the NFL after losing Olivier Vernon.
Beyond that, the Giants now have the Panthers old GM who spent 5 of his 8 1st and 2nd round picks with the Panthers on players along the defensive front.
My Pick 17: New York Giants Montez Sweat EDGE Mississippi State
Again, it just fits. Even being a person that isn’t ultra high on Sweat I’m not sure how you let him pass you up.
Prediction Pick 18: Minnesota Vikings Garrett Bradbury OC NC State
This one seems all but etched in stone. It obviously doesn’t have to be but the need along the OL as well as the scheme fit with the new outside zone has everyone putting Bradbury with the Vikings.
I’m fine with this.
My Pick 18: Minnesota Vikings Cody Ford OG Oklahoma
The Bradbury thing makes plenty of sense and would be a fine pick but number 1, Ford is a better player and is athletic enough to play guard in an outside zone scheme.
Beyond that, Vikings fans seem to really like Pat Elflein who they drafted just 2 years ago. If they guys they already have can step it up a little and Ford slides in at LG in place of Brett Jones, I think that might be the biggest bang for your buck.
Prediction Pick 19: Tennessee Titans Christian Wilkins DT Clemson
0 people have mocked this which makes it a strange prediction pick but supposedly Vrabel, who is a defensive guy, Really likes Wilkins, tried to recruit him to Ohio State when he was there, and has met with Wilkins on several occasions.
It’s not seen as the top need but to say they don’t have a need at DT is silly. Beyond that, Wilkins is arguably the best player on the board.
My Pick 19: Tennessee Titans Drew Lock QB Missouri
Ya that’s right. Look, Mariota just isn’t getting it done and with another new OC, the odds that he finally figures it out is really unlikely. I’m not sure if Lock is it either, but if we don’t find a replacement, we’re going to have to pay $25M to keep Mariota around.
Let’s draft Lock and hope we can trade Mariota.
Prediction Pick 20: Pittsburgh Steelers Devin Bush LB Michigan
This is a dream scenario for the Steelers and if it didn’t just happen in this mock I’d say it’s a borderline impossibility. But here we are.
My Pick 20: TRADE Houston Texans Steelers Receive 161 (5th) and 2020 4th Andre Dillard OT Washington State
I really just don’t like my options for the Steelers here so I’m going to get a little draft capital to slide back a bit.
The Texans have what I believe is the worst offensive line in football. Dillard has a chance be be a legitimate left tackle in the NFL and I don’t want to miss out, especially with the Seahawks picking at 21.
Prediction Pick 21: TRADE Kansas City Chiefs Seahawks Receive Picks 92 (3rd) and 201 (6th) Byron Murphy CB Washington
Clearly I did the mock prior to the Frank Clark and since this is too hard to undo, this one is going to stick. I’m giving myself half credit for predicting and Chiefs/Seahawks trade.
The Seahawks wanted out of this spot badly for the sole purpose of adding picks. The good news is that they are now up to 6 total picks. The bad news is that the Chiefs kind of took them for a ride as far as value.
Either way, the Chiefs knew they needed corner help badly and Byron, who they seem to like a lot, isn’t going to last long. This isn’t a bad deal for them at all.
My Pick 21: Seattle Seahawks Rashan Gary DT/EDGE Michigan
I love and hate this at the same time. We need more picks and desperately need help on the offensive line.
On the other hand, Gary fits perfectly here, is a steal based on his projected value which some feel is top 10, and is a need especially with all the Frank Clark trade talks.
In other words, I wish he wasn’t available so I didn’t have to make the pick but he is so I do.
Prediction Pick 22: Baltimore Ravens D.K. Metcalf WR Ole Miss
I really have no idea what Baltimore thinks of D.K. and could go another route but looking at my board and their desperate need at WR it makes sense. I’ll put it this way, it’s the most obvious pick I could make at this point.
My Pick 22: Baltimore Ravens Garrett Bradbury OC NC State
My only question here was whether I was going to stick to my board (nflbigboard.com) or go with a need/rumor. I wanted interior offensive line and on my board Bradbury is higher but supposedly the Ravens like Linstrom.
Ultimately I stuck with the board and took Bradbury but either would be a great pick.
Prediction Pick 23: Houston Texans Andre Dillard OT Washington State
I already explained the reasoning and I’ll stand by it. Ultimately this could be Risner or any number of offensive linemen but it needs to be OL.
My Pick 23: Pittsburgh Steelers Chauncey Gardner-Johnson S Florids
Looking at the team, it seems like they’ve been doing a lot of work on DBs including CGJ. Ultimately I like the fit for him. He can be a single high safety which is a good pairing with Edmunds who they (over)drafted last year. On top of that, if he’s needed to help as a slot or against TE’s I think he has that kind of versatility.
Prediction Pick 24: Oakland Raiders Joshua Jacobs RB Alabama
I think the Raiders need a RB and although they can wait Jacobs is just different. He’s here so take him now rather than risk losing him and then settling for one of the 4th round running backs that everyone else is going to grab.
My Pick 24: San Francisco 49ers Nasir Adderley S Delaware
I’m absolutely stunned to hear people say the 49ers could win their division. I like almost nothing about their roster. I don’t like the WR’s, CB’s, LB’s, safeties… and the parts I do like are pretty iffy.
That said, the trade back is going to help and I think safety might be the biggest weak spot. Adderley with his sideline to sideline ability will hopefully be able to cover a lot of ground in the backfield.
Prediction Pick 25: Philadelphia Eagles Greedy Williams CB LSU
It seems like a slide and maybe it is a little but this feels about right to me. Either way the Eagles have a definite need and Greedy is probably the best players available at this point so it was a pretty easy call.
My Pick 25: Philadelphia Eagles Greedy Williams CB LSU
Same logic, the only difference is that I also had Byron Murphy available. Although I think Byron is probably a little better personally, I’m sticking with my board here.
Prediction Pick 26: Indianapolis Colts Jeffery Simmons DT Mississippi State
From the first time I heard this I loved it. The Colts are pretty solid and are likely headed back to the playoffs in 2019. Simmons should be back in time to help in the playoffs as well as give the Colts a top 5 player moving forward.
My Pick 26: Indianapolis Colts Jeffery Simmons DT Mississippi State
When I said I loved it, I meant it. It just makes perfect sense to me.
Prediction Pick 27: Oakland Raiders Noah Fant TE Iowa
We added maybe the best player in the draft at pick 4, got the top RB in the draft to fill a huge need on offense, and now added a scary receiving TE to pair with said RB as well as Antonio Brown.
I would say we got better as a team today.
My Pick 27: Oakland Raiders Noah Fant TE Iowa
Again, it just makes sense. They did really well with Jared Cook on the team and are able to replace him with Cook 2.0.
Prediction Pick 28: Los Angeles Chargers Nasir Adderley S Delaware
Yes they took Derwin last year and it worked out great but similar to the Packers, they have 1 and nothing else. They’ve brought in several safeties and not only is Adderley probably the best, he’s the best compliment to Derwin’s skill set.
My Pick 28: Los Angeles Chargers Dalton Risner OT Kansas State
The Chargers offensive line is not so great and Sam Tevi off the right side might be the worst of the bunch. The Chargers maybe have 1 more shot at this thing, we need to protect the QB.
Prediction Pick 29: Seattle Seahawks Dalton Risner OT Kansas State
Overall I’m not happy if I’m a Seahawks fan but I think this was navigated as well as it could have been. We traded back to pick up 2 more picks this year and still got a top tackle to help protect the highest paid quarterback in football.
My Pick 29: Seattle Seahawks Kaleb McGary OT Washington
Thanks to the Seahawks trade we get two chances in the first round and I can’t imagine anything better than replacing Clark AND addressing our need for OL.
McGary isn’t at the top of my board but fits the Seahawks love of east coast players and yes they had him in for a visit.
Prediction Pick 30: Green Bay Packers: N’Keal Harry WR Arizona State
I was torn between this and Chris Lindstrom here. I’ll be honest, doubling up on offense feels wrong but who wouldn’t be excited about the Packers potential if by the end of the day they added Hock and Harry. It even sounds cool.
My Pick 30: Green Bay Packers: Hollywood Brown WR Oklahoma
It’s a high risk play but I don’t want to be pretty good. I want to take a shot at greatness and the upside of Brown is insane. We can play him in the slot and outside. He’s a deep threat but can also terrorize the middle of the field and every time he touches the ball there’s potential for him to take it all the way to the house.
Rodgers has never had a player like this and I just want to see it.
Prediction Pick 31: Los Angeles Rams Jaylon Ferguson EDGE La Tech
The Rams added Clay Matthews and Fowler last year but this still isn’t a terrifying group. With Clay being a short term solution it would make sense to get someone in that can learn under the two first round picks.
My Pick 31: Los Angeles Rams Jachai Polite EDGE Florida
Ya I know, I know. Here’s the thing. I’ve said several times now that with Polite, either the interview stuff bothered you or it didn’t and if you can live with it just draft him. On tape polite is one of the best pass rushers in this class and never should have fallen this far.
The locker room in LA is incredible and that’s evidenced by the fact that they brought in several volitile players and went to the Super Bowl.
This will be mocked all the way up until the start of the season when Jachai is the #1 pass rusher on the team.
Prediction Pick 32: New England Patriots Dexter Lawrence DT Clemson
This is tough because all the talking points aren’t really available. Great players that are supposed to fall are all gone. There really aren’t quarterbacks here. The Iowa TE’s are gone.
With that, I’m taking a guy in the trenches to make a solid unit even better. Lawrence is wildly underrated in my opinion and is going to be a stud in NE.
My Pick 32: New England Patriots Hakeem Butler WR Iowa State
Which WR isn’t really the point here. If I’m making the pick I’m going to add a weapon and I don’t really want a big slot type guy. Just give me a solid boundary receiver and I think Butler is that.

Is Ed Oliver Worth Giving Up Both 2nd Round Picks in a Draft Day Trade Up?
What if Howie Roseman and the Eagles packaged both of their second-round picks along with pick No. 25 in order to move into the top 10 of this draft…is there a player in this draft that would be worth it?
According to Ourlads’ NFL Draft Pick Value Chart, pick numbers 25, 53 and 57 are worth a combined 1,420 points. Theoretically, that is enough to get as high as pick No. 8 (1,400 points) and subsequently 9 or 10. While that may not ultimately be “realistic”, we’re just gonna roll with it for this exercise because my main premise is whether there is any player worthy of giving up both second-rounders for.
First, here are some negative/realistic considerations…
The Eagles have only 7 total picks and no third-rounder. They’d be taking one player and then have to wait all the way until the fourth round before their next selection as well as just drafting 5 players total.
They have a bunch of aging players currently on the roster and a huge contract in the waiting for Carson Wentz. We need a plethora of young, cheap talent.
Giving up two second-rounders – which could be two solid starting players – is a lot to gamble on one guy.
Now, here are some positive/optimistic considerations…
Yes, they need young/cheap players. Right now, it appears they’ll have a bunch of picks in the 2020 draft, including two thirds, two fourths and two fifths (assuming comp picks work out).
The aging positions that are most concerning are LT, DE and S. We have Vatai, who is at least serviceable at LT, along with the promise of Mailata. We have several young players in the secondary where it’s feasible that one or two could move over to Safety if needed. As for DE, more on that later.
The Eagles’ success of 2nd round players over the last 20 years has been very spotty. Of 24 second round picks since 1998, I’d say only 6 of them turned out to be good a quality player who was consistent. So, what we’d really be giving up is about a 25% chance of getting a good player.
The Eagles’ success rate of drafting in the top half of the draft is FAR greater than drafting past pick 20 and/or trading out of the first round.
This team is ready to compete for another Super Bowl right now so adding a true impact player could make a big difference.
So, with all that said, I took a look at the players most commonly mocked in the No. 5 to 10 range of the first round (non-QBs and players not named Nick Bosa, Josh Allen or Quinnen Williams.
That leaves players like LB Devin White, DE Montez Sweat, DE Rashan Gary, DE Brian Burns, DE Clelin Ferrell, DT Christian Wilkins, DT Ed Oliver, OL Jonah Williams, OT Jawaan Taylor and OT Cody Ford.
Some combination of these players are typically mocked in that range. Obviously, some will go between picks 10 and 20.
Now, if we are considering giving up two 2nd round picks in order to move up for a player, that player has to be “worth it”, obviously. In other words, he basically has to be a sure thing with a very high likelihood of being an impact player in Year 1.
He should basically be a transcendent player.
Furthermore, we have to consider what positions the Eagles would be willing to make such a sacrifice for so that immediately rules out Devin White. As I’m sure you know, the Eagles highly value QB, OL and DL the most.
Historically speaking (since the Andy Reid era), when the Eagles have actually traded up in Round 1 it has mostly been for a lineman with the lone exceptions of Wentz and Jeremy Maclin.
After researching the players listed above, I only found one player that I believe would be worth the sacrifice: Ed Oliver.
If you read my one and only mock draft from back in March, you’d know that I mocked a trade-up for Oliver. After looking over the top players, I’m doubling-down on him now.
Again, what I’m saying is that I believe Ed Oliver is the only player outside of Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams and Josh Allen that I think would be worth the sacrifice of both second round picks.
He’s that good.
If the Eagles added Oliver, their defensive line all of a sudden becomes virtually unstoppable. The 3-man inside rotation of he, Cox and Jackson would give constant pressure up the middle and when they don’t get to the QB, they will flush them right into the hands of Graham, Barnett, Long and Curry.
It would be special to watch.
Also, Oliver has the athleticism to be moved to DE occasionally, giving the Eagles somewhat of a chess piece on the defensive line. Hell, he’s athletic enough to drop into coverage!
Here’s a link to a great breakdown of what he can bring.
One of the things I like most about Oliver is that he was basically a one-man show on the Houston DL. That’s what gives me a little pause about the players from the Clemson DL…which guy benefitted because of the other guys?
I do have to mention this article that came out over the weekend that basically says Oliver’s pre-draft visit with the Eagles didn’t go well and that they came away with a “low-character impression” and that he’s basically been removed from their draft board because of it.
The theory is that the Eagles may have intentionally provoked Oliver during the meeting, presumably about his altercation with Houston Coach Major Applewhite, to see how would react.
I’m not sure if this story has any legs, but I haven’t seen any other Eagles outlet report on it besides the one in the link. And even if it is true, it could also be a form of subterfuge…as in, the Eagles could leak info like that in hopes to give other teams pause about Oliver as well as give the impression the Eagles aren’t interested.
We shall see.
Most Eagles fans will moan and groan about the idea of giving up both second round picks. But, for every good 2nd-rounder like LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson and Zach Ertz, there have been more Jaiquawn Jarrett’s, Victor Abiamiri’s and Quinton Caver’s.
If Oliver went on to become one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL over the next 10 years, would giving up two second round picks be worth it in retrospect? Absolutely.
Montez Sweat would be a player I’d be willing to sacrifice one of our second round picks for, but not both of them. Mayyyyybe Christian Wilkins too.
However, I don’t think there is any other player worthy of sacrificing one second round pick for, let alone two.
So, how would you feel if the Eagles threw caution to the wind and burned both second round picks for Ed Oliver…a player that will likely be a perennial pro-bowler?
How would you feel about our chances this year if we added Oliver, then traded one of our fourth rounders for RB Duke Johnson?
That would be the definition of being “all in” for 2019.

WAY TOO SOON!™ post all-star games, pre-combine 2019 NFL 1st round mock draft
You can see the existential disappointment on Nick Bosa’s face and he’s not wrong.
Mock drafts are the worst. The earlier they are, the dumber they are.
The way things currently stack up all of the online pundits and such are posting mock drafts featuring a bunch of players they don’t even like and working with the worthless rule that they can’t propose trades. Why bother with that? It’s all such a flight of fancy, anyway. Just go all in.
From where we are right now, Nick Bosa is the obvious #1 pick and nobody really loves any of the QBs. I’d still put money on a QB going #1 overall after somebody makes a terrible seeming trade with Arizona.
1. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Drew Lock, QB, Missouri
My going theory here is that the Raiders are insanely stupid. Drew Lock is not the top QB on a lot of draft boards right now and he’s definitely not the top player. Also the Raiders have the third highest paid QB in the league on their current roster. Might as well swing for the fences on a zero-win season heading into Las Vegas. The presumption here is that Derek Carr gets jettisoned and they trade all three of their first-round picks for Lock.
2. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State
If Bosa is there at #2 the 49ers have to pull the trigger. I think he’s a little over-valued, especially given the depth at the position but I also thought his brother was going to suck so don’t get the idea I know what I’m talking about.
3. NEW YORK JETS - Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
This is counting on Taylor doing extremely well at the Combine. And the Jets continuing a long and storied history of making weird draft picks.
4. NEW YORK GIANTS - Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State
No clue what to expect from Haskins after he gets drafted. His arm is OK, his athleticism is OK, his decision-making is pretty good, his accuracy/placement is good. There just isn’t enough body of work to really project anything for him but I want the Cardinals to keep moving down and the mock drafts with like 8 defensive line/edge guys going in the top 10 look insane to me.
5. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
IDEAL FIT! Really, this would be pretty great for the Bucs but who knows with Bruce Arians in place.
6. ARIZONA CARDINALS - DK Metcalf, WR, Mississippi
Metcalf’s athletic comps are gonna be ridiculous. Get ready for a bunch of people to compare him to Calvin Johnson. Maybe he’s really that good but the odds aren’t in favor of producing at that level for anybody.
7. DENVER BRONCOS - Daniel Jones, QB, Duke
This makes sense because the Jaguars are incapable of actually moving on from Blake Bortles no matter how obvious it is that they need to and the Broncos love having bad quarterbacks.
8. DETROIT LIONS - Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
The RTARLsman finally comes off the board! I don’t know what the Lions need or want. I know Matt Patricia sucks as a person and as a coach.
9. BUFFALO BILLS - Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
Don’t let Ian Zeirlein gaslight you, he absolutely said there are teams that would move Oliver to linebacker. That’s idiotic. Oliver is going to be undersized for an interior DL but he’s got enough strength and quickness to make up for the 15 or so lbs he would need to be optimal. Interior rush is going to win the Rams a Super Bowl tomorrow and Oliver is a killer in the passing game. The Bills roster kind of sucks so they can go a million directions sensibly but in my heart I still think Oliver is the best player in this draft.
10. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Greedy Williams, CB, LSU
A really dumb thing that’s almost sure to happen this offseason is the Jags trading away Jalen Ramsey. Williams reminds me more of fellow LSU alum Marcus Peters as a player but that’s not necessarily terrible.
11. CINCINNATI BENGALS - Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama
The Bengals really sucked on the interior of the line in 2018 but it’s pretty early to cut bait on Billy Price and #11. They also suck out loud at QB and LB but need/supply make a tackle seem like a better pick.
12. GREEN BAY PACKERS - Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida
Clelin Ferrell and Brian Burns are rated higher by most draft media right now but Polite is going to test out of this world and Brian Burns is going to weigh like 208 lbs. Ferrell is probably going to make a more immediate impact than Polite but tremendous upside is always an enticement.
13. MIAMI DOLPHINS - Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson
Last year at this time the Dolphins pass rush group looked pretty good and now they’re talking about cutting all of those guys. Ferrell isn’t insanely athletic but he’s not a stiff, either. He got better every year at Clemson and getting him at #13 seems like a pretty good deal.
14. ATLANTA FALCONS - Christian Wilkins, DL, Clemson
The dream for the Falcons is to have Ed Oliver fall this far but Christian Wilkins might actually fit their team better, anyway.
15. WASHINGTON - Jeffrey Simmons, DL, Mississippi State
Not the biggest area of need for Washington but a perfect culture fit.
16. CAROLINA PANTHERS - Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama
On the one hand this seems like a good trade target for a team that wants to move up but on the other hand there are only 4 good players in this draft and once the QBs are gone, who’s trading up?
17. CLEVELAND BROWNS - Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
The Browns are shockingly low on glaring needs. Another CB opposite Denzel Ward makes sense to me but Murphy might actually be too similar to last year’s #4 overall pick. I love DeAndre Baker but the buzz is that he’s a lot smaller than listed and also going to run somewhere close to a 4.6. Bryce Hall really fucked up returning to school.
18. MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Cody Ford, OT, Oklahoma
Ford may very well fall victim to poor testing like his former teammate Orlando Brown, Jr., but Brown looked pretty good as a NFL rookie and Ford won’t be that bad at the Combine. There are probably 15 good players in this draft but most of them are boring. Ford is in that camp.
19. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Chris Lindstrom, OL, Boston College
The Seahawks are dutybound to make things weird at the draft. Lindstrom seems like the kind of bad OL that the Seahawks love and nobody else is going to take him in the first round so I’m projecting them to move up to take him.
20. PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State
Also deadset on fucking things up for no reason in the draft, this would actually count as a safe pick for the Steelers. It doesn’t address an area of need and Burns is a really weird player because of his weight but he’s athletic and tall and nobody else will have him rated higher than the second round.
21. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Dalton Risner, OT, Kansas State
Other players I considered: Montez Sweat, Nasir Adderley, Rashan Gary. Risner is possibly the best OL in the draft and might be long gone by #21 but if he’s there he’s the best player at a position of relative need.
22. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Joshua Jacobs, RB, Alabama
This is not at all a need pick and it’s probably not at all realistic but I think Jacobs gives the offense so much more dimension than anybody else available can give them. He’s like Marlon Mack but actually good (sorry, GG) and he honestly can add as much to the passing game as any of the WRs. At least for the Colts.
23. TENNESSEE TITANS - Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State
Sweat is going to be a really boring NFL player. That’s perfect for the league’s most forgettable franchise.
24. BALTIMORE RAVENS - Nasir Adderley, S, Delaware
The Ravens need some youth in the defensive backfield and Adderley could be an off-brand version of Derwin James. Admittedly, at this time last year I thought James was going to suck but in my defense I’d watched how FSU used him and figured that was related to his abilities.
25. ARIZONA CARDINALS - Yodney Cajuste, OT, West Virginia
There is no shortage of needs on the Cardinals roster but they need to have at least a few offensive linemen that could start for a really good high school team.
26. HOUSTON TEXANS - David Edwards, OT, Wisconsin
A lot of NFL teams have bad offensive line situations and there are a bunch of decent OL prospects this year. But not so many that you can wait on them. WR is absolutely loaded this year but there are so many of them that teams can wait for them. The Texans don’t particularly need WRs. I’m not sure why this is where I chose to write about this.
27. ARIZONA CARDINALS - Dexter Lawrence, DL, Clemson
Again, the Cardinals need everything. Lawrence has his detractors and he kind of needs a great Combine but the potential is sky high.
28. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
The odds of making a bunch of money is better for Murray in the NFL than in MLB but the odds that he’s about as good in the NFL as Johnny Manziel are still pretty high. The only reason to risk a first round pick on him rather than a second or third is that you’ll need at least 5 seasons before you stop worrying that he’ll actually die from being hit. Murray is tiny. He would be the smallest QB in the league in about 50 years. For all his arm talent and poise he was getting about 9 seconds per play at Oklahoma before he faced pressure. He won’t get 3 seconds on an average NFL play. But the Chargers need to start planning for a post-Rivers world and their head coach’s natural proclivities are more towards a run-based scheme. Worth a shot, maybe?
29. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis
This is a dream pick for me more than an honest guess. To be honest, they could probably get Henderson towards the end of the second round. I just love the fit of Henderson in Andy Reid’s offense too much to not mention it.
30. GREEN BAY PACKERS - Kelvin Harmon, WR, North Carolina State
I thought of going ahead with a second EDGE defender and giving them Zach Allen and the Packers have shown a willingness to double up on positions in the draft but then I thought about how good this group of WRs is and how weird it would be to go through the whole first round with only one going off the board.
31. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - Zach Allen, EDGE, Boston College
I don’t know if this makes sense for the Pats or not but Allen is built like Chris Jones and could be a fun weapon for Belichick.
32. LOS ANGELES RAMS - Sheldrick Redwine, S, Miami
Redwine mostly played safety at The U but his athletic profile might have him playing more CB at the next level. The Rams high priced defensive backfield mostly sucks and they could use help all over back there so I’m making the home pick to end the first round and giving them one of the more versatile backs in the draft.

Bijli Mahadev Trek – Kullu Attraction
A Bird’s Eye View of Kullu from a Viewpoint en route Chansari
From my earlier story titled ‘Travel Photographer Meets Serious Trekkers’ you already know how deeply I hate trekking. But during my recent visit to Kullu for its world-famous Dussehra celebrations (more about it in a later post), I was persuaded to do one short (?) trek to Bijli Mahadev. I was told that both, the walk and the view, would be awesome – a 360° panorama that would have Kullu to the Northwest and Manikaran to the Northeast. They promised it was a 40-minute-trek and accorded excellent photo-op.
You know that I am always game to undergo any amount of hardship for a destination that offers an opportunity to capture nice images. Add to that the story of the temple – that it gets struck by lightning every twelve years and its Shivalinga breaks, which is then fixed by sticking it with butter, and we have a deadly persuasion. So, the bottom-line was I yet again got suckered into a torture.
Well, here’s a glimpse of the climb!
Drive to Chansari Village
After shooting the Day-2 big draw of Kullu Dussehra – Naati (the slow, group folk dance from Himachal), we hurried away from Dhalpur Ground before the event ended to escape the maddening crowd that would lead to an inevitable massive traffic jam.
As we crossed River Beas and drove towards Chansari, we realised the road was hardly tarred, climbed steeply and had just enough space for one vehicle. This drive went on for over an hour. And every time a vehicle would come from the opposite direction, we would be forced to reverse 20-30 metres to find enough space to allow that vehicle to pass.
With every passing minute, steadily escalating sense of foreboding was swelling within. It wasn’t doing any good to my morale. I was getting a strong urge to request my co-travellers that we abort our trip and return. But then, social graces stomped over this feeling and our slow and painful journey continued.
Not too steep, is it?
Chansari – The Trek Begins Here
As we rounded a turn, there was a collective whoop in the car as we sighted the Chansari Parking. The parking was a luxurious 20×30 mt. space – it naturally seemed luxurious, as the road throughout was extremely narrow!
The left of the parking had a retaining wall that supported a notoriously brittle cliff (Himachal is infamous for its landslides and these cliffs suddenly giving way). On the right was a sheer drop that seemed to be at least a few hundred feet. The retaining wall had a sign painted on it – ‘Parking not allowed as this space is for the buses to turn around’. Ironically, that area was completely filled with vehicles parked haphazardly.
Bijli Mahadev – we can almost see it (top right)!
We got out of our vehicle and crossed the parking. And suddenly figured that we had nowhere to go. That is when our local guide, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawaan, crossed over a small stone wall and stepped onto a gravelly narrow dirt-path.
The Realisation Dawns
Now we knew we were playing ‘follow the leader’ who, in this case, was our ITBP guide. Given a Hobson’s choice, we too scrambled over the stone wall and started trudging gamely behind him. Within the first hundred metres or so, it became evident the trek was anything but easy. The path was unevenly paved with rocks and boulders – the administration’s magnanimous attempt to provide an easier way for visitors.
In the first couple of hundred metres, we had already climbed a couple of hundred feet – my Fitbit told me so. After every few steps, our guide would gently egg us on. He kept up his refrain that the trek was only 40 minutes.
We climbed all the way!
Every few metres, we would meet the folks returning after their trek. Invariably, we would ask them – “How much more?” And each time, we would get a different answer – “Another 25-30 minutes”; “A couple of kilometres”; “One hour”; Oh, it is quite close now”. We would toil some more and the same story would repeat. Broadly speaking, we remained clueless about the extent of torture that still had to be inflicted on us.
Visitors at Bijli Mahadev
A Welcome Relief
We had not had our lunch. Naturally, we were feeling hungry as breakfast that had been about 6 hours behind us had become ancient history in our memory. After about 40 minutes of a relentless climb, we sighted a café (well, that’s what they call those ram shackled food stalls in hilly areas). Collectively, we parked ourselves there and decided upon gorging on a lavish ‘Maggi Noodles’ meal!
While waiting for food, a dark feeling of self-pity engulfed us as we saw few local women with kids making their way up at a steady pace. They were making good speed. One of them was even carrying a child in her lap! The smoker in me silently cursed.
I wonder how he climbed up here! But then, that’s horsepower!
The meal reinvigorated us and we started moving again at a fair clip (or so we thought till we were rudely jerked back to reality as a couple of locals briskly overtook us). Humbled, we lumbered along.
Mound and More
In a short while, we found ourselves in a thick pine forest with only rising mounds ahead of us. Another 30 minutes of unending undulating terrain, we reached a steep mound. Like in all our previous approaches to such mounds, we couldn’t see what lay beyond.
The pathway leading up to the temple
We continued to make our way forward one weary step after another and soon reached the top of the mound. As soon as the vista beyond was revealed, we realised we could see the meadowy grass top of the ridge that was dotted with some tarpaulin-covered shacks and a hill cottage like structure perched on the top of the ridge.
A warm feeling of achievement stayed with us all through the next 20 minutes of the climb. We were almost there! During these last twenty minutes, we passed by a tiny pond, a few food stalls, and some jaw-dropping scenery.
Trident, just before your enter the temple
Bijli Mahadev – Finally, We Were There
The pathway leading up to the temple offered drop-dead landscapes. We could see a huge trident marking a Lord Shiva temple on one side and a grazing horse and some cattle on the other. The path was saddled with the oh-so-common selfie-clicking fixtures.
A few photographs later, we reached the temple entrance. We took off our shoes and entered the holy precincts.
Nandi (Shiva’s Bull) and assorted Shivalingas just outside the temple
The temple was to our left and some ancient stone idols of Nandi (Shiva’s Bull) to our right. I waited patiently to get some nice photographs here as even this area was filled with selfie-clickers – as always, oblivious to others who may want to make some photographs too.
Bijli Mahadev Temple
Inside the temple, seeing the inconsiderate tourists trying to click a selfie with the idol, I realised why most temples ban photography. These folks were posing for their selfies with their back to the idol. Such a thing is considered disrespectful in any religious place – you just can’t turn your back to the god or his manifestation. I couldn’t resist giving them a piece of my mind!
The shivalinga that gets struck by lightning every 12 years and is then fixed again with butter!
Soaking it in
After paying my respects in the sanctum sanctorum, I stepped out and went to the rear of the temple. The open space had another huge trident towering over the horizon! The place was soaked in bright sunshine; the skies were blue, and the ridge-top, a glorious shade of green. The whole scene was so gorgeous I didn’t mind a bit of distant haze!

Huge trident towering over the horizon at the rear of the temple
We must have spent about 45 minutes there. After which, we decided to make our way back. While we exited the temple complex and were making our way back along the pathway leading out of the temple, the sun suddenly went behind dark clouds and the temperature distinctly dropped a few degrees. But then, these sudden changes in weather are to be expected in the hills!
This is how the weather changes!
Way back
We started our descent. Suddenly, hit with a sudden realisation, my co-trekkers exclaimed that climbing down is more painful than climbing up! I decided to ignore their plaintive wails and moved ahead – increasing my lead over them with every step.
Isn’t the view drop-dead gorgeous?
Seeing that I was walking alone, a handsome, black, hill stray dog decided to give me company. He walked with me for the next half hour. Dutifully, he would lead the way, get ahead and walk for about twenty metres or so, and then wait for me. Overall, the whole experience was that of having a caring companion and it ensured that I did not feel any tiredness during my descent! Check out this short video of my companion.
As I was approaching the shack where we had our lunch, I had decided that I would buy a packet of biscuits and give that to my companion. But alas, before I reached there, he had decided to move on!
After we returned to our place of stay and we reviewed the images, I realised how scenic was the place we had just been to!
A Few Tips – Bijli Mahadev Trek – Kullu Attraction
Bijli Mahadev is a stunning destination (don’t get influenced by my rant about the trek)
If you are a city-dweller like me, and any local from a hilly area tells you the trek is just 40 minutes, multiply that time by 3 to get a more relevant and realistic estimate
If you see any selfie-clicker who turns his back to the idol, do give him/her a piece of your mind
